I've always wondered how they got such wonderful instrumentation on that album. Apparently, it's called The Dap-Kings.

Still the greatest album of the 21st Century, and one of the greatest albums ever made. You can't skip one song, Not one B track. Very rare.

In fact, a perfect musical meeting between Amy Winehouse and The Dap Kings. Unforgettable!

They're keeping a lot of stories to themselves. Very smartly. Because anyone who met her, knew that things were not all kosher in the mind of Winehouse. Influences in her life that will probably never be brought to book.
I always think people like this should be careful to write their true memories down, and arrange them to be released posthumously after they die. Places where no lawyer can go.

It's confusing to hear them say that record wasn't their taste. I don't get that.

The Daptone sound is famously low-fi, raw, recorded on old equipment, and while Mark Ronson used that as a basis, he pushed the sound into a more modern form afterwards. That's what they probably mean.

They’re just bitter they didn’t get a bigger share of the profit that record made. Back to Black is the single most influential work the Dapkings were involved in. I love Sharon Jones’ stuff but it’s just not as unique as Winehouse’s sound/vibes.

musicians often have to work on projects that are not what they would create if they were personally writing lyric, arranging and engineering the songs. If I hadn't read that they were the backing band for the album I would not have known that this was the the Dap Kings. There is a distinct difference. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do to keep the wheels rolling when you are a non-stadium touring band

@@gavinyuangao4366 They’re not bitter. They make what they love. They only reason that album did what it did is because of Gabe & Mark and the Daptone sound. They are in it for music and they make a great living because of it.

seems like there's some bad feelings there, hanging it above the toilet, the awkward looks at each other when asked certain questions, maybes they opted for the flat fee instead of % on sales

Kurt Lee, Thank you. I didn't understand what the vibe was I was seeing here. Just felt something was off. I didn't even realize her gold record was over the toilet because I looked away for a second. I looked back in time to see a close-up of it and hear him say, "that was the only spot for it at the time" before they cut away. I watched again after reading your comment. Then there was a couple subtle, dismissive comments like after the guy played a few notes of rehab and shrugged and said I don't even remember, that was so long ago. I'm sure it was true, but put with everything else, I think it was shade, too. Alot of shade here, lol. You're right, there must be bad blood.

@@minnie3906 I wonder if they feel like they benefitted enough. Putting her platinum record above the toilet was such a cold move.
At 3:11 there's an interesting moment when 2 of the Daps are asked whether they wish they had signed Amy or something. It got a tad awkward. Seemed like something unspoken passed there, too. Was it resentment? Maybe it was just the editing? Hard to tell..🤔

    • @gavinyuangao4366

Yeah but why all this anger directed at Amy? Those who knew her personally all said she was such a sweet soul. When she was on holiday in St Lucia, she paid for a random guy’s surgery for $10,000. When that guy wanted to thank her, she just shrugged it off and hugged that guy, saying “I’m glad you’re well again.”

Funny how I had not even heard of the song before viewing this video. And I still don't see what that hype is all about. They look boring, to be honest. And those guys with delusions of grandeur in that studio, eeh, who are you? This is the worst editing of all the Top 2000 a gogo videos, since it doesn't get clear who did what or why.
