    Love this video. Thanks for the step by step instructions including the cardstock tip. This looks so beautiful. I will soon be trying this on our cabin front door - exact same colors as your door looks amazing!!!

    New door looks great. You did a beautiful job. Video very informative. One tip: Don't talk negative about previous owners..... It's not necessary and it's distracting . Just state the facts of the problem that are being addressed without blame.

      I'm sorry you don't like the fact that I brought up the previous owners. However, they did a lot of things that have cost us significant amounts of time and money. They did many things that covered up defects in the house that I wish I would have better documented to both warn future homebuyers about and to potentially discuss with a lawyer.

      @@RandomBatHome loved that you mention the hidden issues when buying a home nothing is ever 100% and sellers will forget as well hide when disclosing.

      Thought the same, not important to the value of the video. Also goodbye ugly door would be a find for someone. Freecycle or Habitat store, even a locksmith can use old door hardware.

    First of beautiful job! Second great job on taking the time to link all information! I know it's time consuming.
    I'm following your lead however you not listed the product you sealed the door with. Would you kindly share?
    Thanks a million!

      Sorry about that! I missed that in the description and it's been updated as well. I used Minwax Helmsman Spar Urathane with a satin sheen. amzn.to/3SsMa7W

    Love it! We have a newbuild and they painted the door black. Would love to do this to add warmth. How is it holding up? Wondering if it is best to strip the black paint and then do the gel stain or just paint this tan color over the black paint.

    • @RandomBatHome
      @RandomBatHome  Рік тому

      It's held up really well! No issues or complaints yet and still get compliments. Hmmm, I probably wouldn't bother stripping and would do a few coats of the tab before starting. Good luck!

    Are painting techniques like these sunproof and waterproof? Is this possible on cemented trellis for a wooden trellis effect?

    • @RandomBatHome
      @RandomBatHome  2 роки тому +1

      what makes the painted door waterproof is the sealer! I did 3 coats and will likely have to maintain it over time. The paint itself was meant for outdoor use, but I definitely didn't want to risk having the paint chip or fade. It's been almost a year without any issues. I bet you could paint cement, I think you'll just need to purchase paint meant to be applied to cement.

    What color is your paint tinted to, to get that little brown color?

    • @RandomBatHome

      The base color is Capilano Bridge (1076) and the top gel stain is the Chestnut from Minwax.

    I just did this technique and my stain has been drying for five hours and it’s still very tacky. What should I do? I have a fan blowing on it but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything

    • @RandomBatHome
      @RandomBatHome  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Judy, I would give it more time! A fan is a great idea though, will definitely help. I'd check back on it in 24hrs, especially if it's really humid by you.

    The initial base coat & the _E X T E N D E D_ amount of time you spent doing it was *TOTALLY* unnecessary. The top GEL coat & the application renders the grain effect. I don't u/stand the use of the card stock or use of a straight edge...can't quite see what the effect was. Your finished project looks *AMAZING!*

    • @Kman.
      @Kman. Місяць тому

      Was the use of the card stock/straight edge to get a defined line & keep your lines straight so you could easily delineate between the horizontal/vertical?

    • @RandomBatHome
      @RandomBatHome  Місяць тому

      yes! exactly this, I don't think it shows up very well in the video, but it made a huge difference in person. I actually started without the card stock and it was just too difficult to get a sharp line.
