    Thanks for this great video! I learned from John at a quarterly meeting of the Handweaver's Guild of Connecticut, still have my loom and my cards, and I wanted to refresh my mind on the process. The initial base coat & the _E X T E N D E D_ amount of time you spent doing it was *TOTALLY* unnecessary. The top GEL coat & the application renders the grain effect. I don't u/stand the use of the card stock or use of a straight edge...can't quite see what the effect was. Your finished project looks *AMAZING!*

      Was the use of the card stock/straight edge to get a defined line & keep your lines straight so you could easily delineate between the horizontal/vertical?

      yes! exactly this, I don't think it shows up very well in the video, but it made a huge difference in person. I actually started without the card stock and it was just too difficult to get a sharp line.

    • @whatisheybailsdoing
      @whatisheybailsdoing 2 місяці тому

      @@RandomBatHome No, you did not. And the presser foot has nothing to do with it. You are supposed to iron the zipper open first so that you can sew directly under the teeth, which will cause it to roll and become invisible. The zipper foot you used is the same one I have and I can still achieve the correct result. I’m speaking directly from knowledge that was learned in fashion design school.

Sometimes we have different skill sets and interests. It’s about playing to your strengths - man or woman. Why should doing embroidery (or any other interest) not make you a “feminist”? Very silly

    Suggestion if you want it. One thing for the final piece that may speed yiu up even more, dont keep switching colors. Do one color, everywhere it belongs across the whole piece, then the next color, then the next. My friend does this when she has deadlines (she makes gifts) and swears by it for embroidery. I swear by it for artwork and my own crafts. I cant wait to watch the journey of your final piece. ❤

But my channel kind of exploded one day out of the blue and people started subscribing and making requests, which I really loved doing. But I am not a content creator, so putting in all the work to share my hobby on UA-cam quickly overwhelmed me and I decided to pull to plug on it. I think I still have followers somehow but only heaven knows why. I'm almost certain they've forgotten they ever subscribed. 😂 Suffice it to say that it is no small task what you do, and after my little experience with creating content, I have a whole new respect for people who can stick with it. Can you put up a tutorial or even just some close up shots if making the loops on the bottom band that the shoulder straps hook into? I’ve got some favorite bras that I adore, but the strap hook loop is set too wide so they fall off my shoulders. Every way I’ve looked at adding extra loops is either very bulky or leaves seams that will irritate my skin. (It’s very hard for me to find bras due to my disability, so fixing this one issue would mean the world to me.)

    • @RandomBatHome
      @RandomBatHome 4 місяці тому

      I wish I could add a picture in this comment! For this bra in particular, I just sewed the strap end directly onto the back band using a straight stitch. I first sewed it to the bottom of the band and then sewed a second set of straight stitches along the top of the back band. I would recommend overcasting the edge of the bra strap to keep it from unraveling (I've found some do and some don't) before stitching it down. If you want to keep the seam hidden, you can unpick some of the stitches on the bottom elastic and tuck the bra strap into it. Please let me know if this doesn't make sense! Alternately, I have made a loop like you're describing, but that will definitely be bulky like you said, especially as a mended solution.

    • @loristrout4741
      @loristrout4741 Місяць тому

      I can answer this. When you make a bra you can sew the strap in under the elastic. You sew the band with the right side of the band facing up and the elastic facing down. You sew the top seam flip the elastic inside and sew the bottom of the elastic. You sandwich the strap between the fabric and elastic with the first set of stitches. Now you could open up the stitches add your strap then resew. After you sew the seam cover with a paper towel and hit the seam with a hammer to flatten. No I am not kidding. Lots of commercial clothing has pounded seams to make them as flat as possible.
