Been slowly doing my 2 bedroom condo interior doors, windows & trim. Like your mom's house, it's very dated w/dark stain throughout. Instead of being overwhelmed w/a big project, I'm doing 1 door or window a day. Great video Dave!
Im on a budget for a renovation and all the doors are like this. Going to do this, and also replace the handles at the same time to give them an updated look at a fraction of the cost!
Me, taking the easy route. Still prepping and painting but have given myself a full week. No work issues and my time is my own but i am in the mood and right frame of mind to get this done. Need to be in the right frame of mind to get this done and have given myself the time. Specialist Wallpaper did not arrive, when asked was told next day, then the next day, apparently 6 failed delivery attempts while was off work and at home. Had to drive and pick up on my last vacation day. Now taking time off again but not in the mood
So why don’t you need to oil prime? I feel like I always do because I’m afraid of the yellowing. Is it that paint that you’re using? I’d really like to figure out a way to paint over wood without having to oil prime.
Should mention you want to use a good short pile roller. Usually a 1/4 inch nap. Smart going w/2 coats like you did. Even w/1 coat coverage paint. Great video Dave!
@@davethewoodworker1043 ah well, the door looks great and that's what you were working on. I'm doing the same to my brown hollow core doors. gonna add black hinges and a door handle as well.. might add trim later.. but first, must go white.
I'm surprised your mom didn't send you home with a few more doors! If you put the hinges in the crock pot, the paint will be easier to peel off. Or maybe just splurge and get some new ones for that other door. Omg, please do that other door before throwing out the roller! lol Of course, it's been two years since you posted this. Did you ever get that other door painted?

My old doors look like this except I think they have a bit more of a glossy finish. Do you think this technique will still work?
Yes, just scuffed it up with at least 120 grit sandpaper first
Cool, just need to swap those hinges to black. Gonna end up doing this to our old brown doors.
Yeah I should have

Great man. But needed close up of after painting the door. It seems paint quality is not that great. Did you add thinner into paint?
No thinner added, sorry I didn't do a close up. But they turned out great
Thank you! I was wondering how these type of doors would come out they’re so thin and hollow I was scared they would come out looking weird
You're welcome
Nice info Dave. I need to do this at my house. Did you do the trim the same way? Thanks for sharing. Dave
Yeah painted the trim with the same paint. 2 coats
No Primer?
Awesome
Thanks
Thanks!
You're welcome

Yes I painted it 😂
Where is the paint from?
Bought at Walmart
I hate painting wooden doors because when someone bumps the door and give a scratch you see the original finish no matter how much primer you use
