Great Reaction Guys:) Michael PARKINSON was our best-ever TV Interviewer with 1,000 interviews, many of them were "1-to1" for an hour including 4 with Muhammad Ali including one famous one when Ali got, heavily, into the Muslim faith and, of course, changed his name from Cassius Clay. He spoke about "White Devils" and Parkinson reminded him of his many White connections including his Trainer: Angelo Dundee and Muhammad went into a rant. He interviewed most of the major Stars of Hollywood and beyond and, originally, hosted a "Cinema" programme of that name. You were right.3 Channels. Sat Night TV was FOOTBALL then Parkinson for 1/3rd whole Country on BBC so NO ADVERTS.
3 legends in their own right in this one. The host as well. This guy Mr Parkinson UKs best chat show host of all, in many peoples opinion. He always knows what he's doing.

@@markbanner6473 Pretty much agree with that Mark. The one that he really wanted to do was a special with Sinatra. They tried a number of times but it never happened. They managed to get Crosby on twice, Jack Jones, Andy Williams and Perry Como also came on, but Sinatra never did, despite their mutual friend Sammy Cahn introducing them at a party in the States.

"I keep telling you I am your brother." Absolutely perfect statement of friendship and, completely scientifically literate. All life on earth is related.
Hi Guys Greetings from England 🇬🇧 and that interview was in 1981 Freddie was a comedy genius and so unpredictable when he was performing and you should check out Freddie on The Des O'Connor Tonight Show in England poor Des was terrified when Freddie came on his show as a guest as he never knew what Freddie would do on his show??? and Freddie never failed to deliver when he was on the Des O' Connor show and it was such a loss to comedy when Freddie passed away.
I have had to watch this again. I love this reation so much. You are a lucky guy too. Know why? Jess is just the most beautiful and lovable soul i fell in love with her on this and freddys vincent routine ❤❤❤
Back in the 80's I went to see Freddie when he was on tour, it was his last show and he looked knackered and just didn't have the energy we've all been used to seeing over the years. Freddie on the Des O'Connor Shows are superb! Des often regrets having him on, but he steals the show 🤣
Parkinson was a journalist by profession and carried on his journalistic instincts into TV. He knew the program was not about him but his guests and did his research before his guests came on. He went out of his way to make the guests feel comfortable and just asked a question then sat back and let them talk. As a result he got some of the biggest names ever in entertainment and sport willing to be open knowing that they could trust him and he never betrayed that trust.
I think Billy Connolly was parkies favourite guest.he would just sit there & let him weave his tales of joy(mostly factual happenings in his life).Freddie wasn't a joke teller but just the compete entertainer.he scared audiences,in a comedic way, before Frankie Boyle & al murray.but was just a cheeky happy chappy even pulling off the full Nazi uniform on des O'Connor.rip a comic legend😂😃😅
It was the "Michael Parkinson Show" on the BBC every Saturday night after football, 11pm ! He was the best, had all the superstars on, Graham Norton show is the Modern day comparison. Ali appeared on the show often! There were only 3 channels back then and only the very best ever got on TV ! Saturday night was and still is the top night! A typical evening would be A top family quiz show ' The Generation game " , followed by ' the two Ronnies' , then Starsky and Hutch, a brief news bulletin, football highlights for an hour and then Parkinson! The audiences were massive! Happy days!
I saw Freddy Starr in the 80s while I was on holiday in Bournemouth UK. I was sitting in a front seat in the audience, he was picking out people to joke about, I was so scared he would chose me, lucky for me I was saved from him. Muhammad Ali was such a hansom man a legend.
I did too on Great Yarmouth pier as a kid, someone was rustling a sweet packet in the front row and Freddie said let's have a look at them then when the person handed them to him he shoved the whole lot in his mouth and gave them back the empty wrapper - everyone was crying 😅
You need to watch a audience with Freddie Starr when all the well known people of the time watch him and are scared when he brings them on he's stunts and when he goes on the des O'Connor shows when he plays pranks on them . Well worth watching ❤
Freddie was a massive star back in the day in the Uk and Michael Parkinson the host was also massive and had some amazing guests and obviously everybody knew Muhammed Ali!
The talk show host is Michael Parkinson, the best there's ever been in the UK, and the BBC, British Broadcasting Corporation, are funded by the people in the UK, and you have to have a license, the beauty of this is there are no adverts on the BBC, some of the best programmes shown around the world are made by the BBC. Parkinson is worth a luck at, the guest's he has had over the years is unbelievable, and like you said his timing and letting people talk is legendary.
The host of that show was Sir Michael Parkinson, who was the King of the BBC's chat show hosts. It was Michael Parkinson who really brought Billy Connolly to the consciousness of the wider UK public. We in Scotland had known of Billy Connolly's comedic genius for several years before he first appeared on Parkinson's chat show, but after that appearance, Billy's career really took off after that and the rest is history.
A lot of TV hosts (and audience members) were terrified of Freddy, he was so unpredictable and prone to outrageous attacks 😅 Half of the fun of his interviews was watching the host squirm in fear.
the TV host was michael parkinson, a legend, no one turned him down to be on his show, whether you were a comedy person, straight person, he let them have the show, and run with it, some of the best ones is with billy conelly, thats what made him a legend, it was a talk show, but the show was the guests, if michael got 3 questions in, he did well, if i remember right, his last show is worth a watch, he had peter kay at end,
I got shouted at by Michael Parkinson. I was working at a restaurant that was below his flat in central London. We had to use a water jet machine that was really loud. It was 9am on a Sunday and he opened his window and gave us a good telling off. The restaurant obviously want to keep him happy so we had to pack up and leave but still got paid. 😂
Michael parkinson lived in a mining town called BARNSLEY where KES was filmed, when my daughter got her masters degree she met michael parkinson hes a lovely bloke, he went round all them who got their masters and spent time with them.
Michael Parkinson was Britain's premier talk show - not chat show, there is a difference - host. He knew instinctively how to put his guests at ease and when to shut up and let them carry the show. He has never been replaced.
Parkinson was one of those guys that could let a great guest have their moment, he introduced Billy Connolly on to a world platform, he was a bit of a fossil when it came to the “Ladies” old school sexist he was put in his box by Dame Helen Mirren and a large Emu.
Ali was the greatest person in my lifetime and Madala and Martin Luther King. How amazing that it seems to me that black people make changes and white don't? Ignorance I suppose? Yeah and I'm so called white. I have no fear or Tommy Robinson. ☝
HOW GOOD WAS THAT.....! An English comedian, the heavyweight Champ, THE best TV interviewer EVER, just letting that happen..... All made from the same stuff we are..... Brilliant

Can I recommend Dave Allen and Kenny Everet? They’re very different but hilarious.

Freddie was not only an amazingly funny comedian, but also a phenominal singer. You should check him out singing. Great Elvis impersonator.

@@Isleofskye Yep there's barely any major starts worldwide that he didn't interview.

A timelessly funny clip. A big thank you to you both for reacting to this, and to MP, FS, and MA, for providing the great memories.
Not many got one over on Ali - but Freddy pulled it off!
Check out Freddie singing with Elvis's backing group the Jordinaires. Amazing voice!
Yep, Freddie was a true legend.

Yes, Freddie was such a great story teller. He was just like this in real life. Met him several times in private and was always hilarious.
great stuff guys!
Freddie Starr was a great comedian but very unpredictable.
Your reaction, the video, the 3 people in it, totally first class.

His interviews with Parkinson were legendary.

RIP the Greatest and one of the other greatest ( from a British point of view ).

Correct ...sadly the BBC is now a shadow of it's former self and utterly unrecognisable .

Freddie star does great things with audiences, you should look that up, if you haven't already.

I remember watching that clip back in the day, on the Michael Parkinson's show 😂
Billy Crystal talking at Ali's funeral is pretty cool to watch
