What really hit was the silence a singer feels at the end of a song. Alone. On stage. The tears she shed. Is REAL.
As someone who grew up in musical theatre… when you perform from the heart in front of hundreds and thousands… it isn’t reality anymore. You literally poured your life and soul out into the performance and just that split second to snap back to reality and shed those tears of beauty is the sweetest thing ever.

Just played the ff6 pixel remaster, and hearing Celes sing made my heart happy. I feel like Celes and Aerith would've become friends. Locke and Cloud would've probably been friends too. Terra and Nanaki. Barret and Cyan. Yuffie and Relm/Gau. Cid and Edgar. Setzer and Cait Sith. Tifa and Sabin. I could see the ff6 and ff7 cast getting along well, very similar spirits.

What was the inspiration behind No Promises to Keep?
Uematsu: Since it is a ballad, I wanted to make it absolutely electrifying. I was asked to make the song so that the key phrase would play in repetition, and that’s when Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” came to mind. I took inspiration from it and decided to repeat a key phrase in the chorus.
How did you feel when you first listened to “No Promises to Keep?”
Uematsu: This is the first time I’ve heard this, and I’m glad she sensed exactly what we were aiming for. “No Promises to Keep” is a love song. I wanted it to exude a sweet feeling, but at the same time, evoke the complex feeling as Aerith confessed her feelings. I tried to build up the song as it climaxed, exactly as Loren described
Was there anything you paid attention to when singing “No Promises to Keep”?
Loren: I wanted to get to know Aerith well, and I also wanted to depict her relationship with Cloud. So, for me to channel her fragile and pure personality, I needed to change certain elements of my natural vocals to match up with her character.
No Promises to Keep was inspired by, “Without you” I just listened to the version Mariah Carey sings in Tokyo and wow, you need to listen to it.

I always had an emotional attachment to the original Final Fantasy VII from when I was a child, then I got to start playing the original again as an adult in preparation for the Remake Series. Playing through Remake & Rebirth so far bring back so many great memories and getting to play through scenes albeit reimagined like this are all kinds of lovely! And there've been quite a few tears.

Came back here after witnessing this on Chapter 12. I really cried 2AM in the morning, because of this scene. This is just purely magical. The emotions the song brought out of us players, especially we have invested in the characters and in the story. FF7 Rebirth is just on a whole 'nother level. Square Enix, thank you for this game! The remake of FF7 was truly worth the wait and I can't wait to finish the FF7Rebirth and for the final installment of this game.

Just finished the game. This moment in Golden Saucer was so beautiful and experiencing the ending hits so hard now. This is up there with the opera scene in FF6 as one of the best performance in Final Fantasy ever

FYI this is an alternative scene with high affinity towards Tifa. Aerith was singing about Cloud. “Walking city streets with worn cobblestones, listening to people rushing past to rhythms all their own, life passing me by, not thinking how the years have flown, until I met you” literally talking about meeting Cloud at loveless street for the first time, loveless street is a busy street, floors made of cobblestones. Honestly feels weird going on a date with anyone else but Aerith, then having Aerith singing a song referring to her first meeting with Cloud.
I feel like she is singing about Zack as well. The words "Till the day when we meet again / Where or when, I wish I could say" makes me think this is about him, since she waited years for Zack to return to her. It's a pretty tragic song in either case, because regardless of who it's about, the romance is doomed in the end.
