I feel like this entire date is a reflection of cloud and aerith's relationship, in that they never really had a choice about where their relationship should go, the world makes each decision for them and that the only thing that they have a choice in is to be with each other's company, cherish the moments they spend together and have fun while it lasts.
Yeah she's like an inversion of Tifa. Cloud and Tifa will always find each other because together they are stronger. Aerith and Cloud will always be apart because they are stronger that way and have those roles to play.
@@awtodor I don't know if reminiscing and dwelling on the past = stronger together. Tifa is the root of a lot of Cloud's disillusion. She only gave him the time of day when he told her he was going to join Soldier and become a hero. Then 5 years later she sees this hero first class soldier and is suddenly hopelessly in love with him and becomes codependent. Aerith starts to bring Cloud out of his shell, and even says she's trying hard to find him. Tifa does help Cloud find himself later on in part 3, but for much of the early parts of the game she is enabling. Even in AC Cloud is sleeping in Aerith's church at this very spot.
@@orome9793This is an incredibly deluded opinion to have. You know this isnt true. Stop warping the games story to fit some ship. Its about the story. Thats why this scene is amazing. Because it serves a story that we might draw meaning and inspiration from. Not because it completes a sit com romantic pairing.
I’m a Tifa guy (by a tad) but I loved this bit of dialogue. I honestly think he should have been saying it regardless of your affinity. Cloud and Aerith. So heartbreaking. 💔
Man, she really loves Cloud. Hence she tries to spent a little time she had left to go on a date with Cloud. Hence she hug Cloud because she just can't help it. But she also held back because she knew about her imminent death. Hence she says sorry to Cloud before and after the hug.
At the end of her hug, she actually confessed that she loves Cloud - which is translated as "Thank you". Look at Cloud's reaction upon hearing it. Would he be so stunned if it was just a "thank you"?
Cough cough alternate timelines already confirmed.good news is one of the key points in part 3 is going to be Zack helping and cure Cloud of his sickness to save Aerith 2 with Marlene 2's advice earlier. Aerith 2 will definitely join the main crew and get her happy ending with everyone
Man, Cloud living alone in the church right next to Aerith's flowers in AC was already sad as hell, but now it's even sadder knowing it was "their spot"
@dr.italic8771 It wasn't for 2 yrs 😭 I swear ppl need to stop spreading this misinformation. The novel makes it clear that up until Cloud contracted geostigma he was living happily with Tifa and the kids, he left after getting the disease and as Nomura explains it "The happier Cloud is, the more he is tormented by the past" The man was afraid of losing his family and being a burden and so he left for 2 weeks out of guilt. Ps. In the Japanese version, aerith never called the church their spot.
@dustinjowen4427 oh wow what an original reply kid 🙄 Just qouting official sources here. The person I was replying obviously deleted their comment lol they were spreading mis-info 🤷🏻♀️
@@jinnimoo To defend that comment (I know it's deleted now but still), it wasn't saying or even implying that Cloud avoided everyone or lived in the church for two years. All it mentioned was how much he must've hurt for two years. That's not misinformation
I like how they avoid Aerith's theme throughout this scene until they actually reach the church. It's like Aerith herself is trying not to think about her fate until the last moment.
Clerith just always feels so much more real for me. I see a lot of similarities with them and other FF couples, like Yuna and Tidus or Squall and Rinoa. I don't mind Cloti or Zerith but for me, Clerith always made more sense.
It fits a lot of the traditional FF themes. Aerith made a good transitionary character from the past heorines of FF1-6 to the more modern takes see from FF8 onward.
@@wahdangunI think it is, don’t think cloud is crazy on that one, I think there are two realities mixing with eachother, Sephiroth says “When worlds merge” And flashes that show when cloud is crazy, don’t have the rainbow in them, but when there are different realities, the rainbow shows up, I think she’ll be back.
I didn't get particularly emotional when Aerith died in Rebirth - I've had more than two and a half decades to get over that. But here, in this scene, where she literally pushes Cloud back to reality, that broke my heart.
It was her way of saying goodbye. This scene made me cry like a baby. The developers know how much this game is loved and they treated it with utmost care. What a beautiful game.
@@kevindie Agreed. They knew they couldn't possibly recreate the emotional impact of the actual death scene. We've all had 27 years of exposure to it. People who haven't even played the original game know what happens. So they didn't even try, and decided to give the emotional gut punch here, after 4 years of them letting us have our will they/won't they/maybe we can finally save her, they close the door on that for good with this scene. Which then somehow makes it feel just as devastating as her actual death was 27 years ago because they let you give yourself a little bit of hope, and then snatch it from you *and* give you just a little bit of time to agonize over it before it actually happens. Did they fumble the actual death scene? Yeah, kinda. Can hardly argue with that. But that scene was never going to have the same impact it did the first time, so it feels like less of a big deal to me.
I am torn apart by this scene. Her efforts are focused on spending more time with Cloud before her final moment. Sephiroth's constant interference may be the reason for the date not going well and making it hard for them both to have a good time. The village people frequently use the phrase 'I wish there were more time', which refers to the time that Aerith does not have. The reason for her eagerness and pushiness is her limited time on the planet. Cloud is questioning Aerith's sense of urgency and how she plays it off. Cloud is aware that something is amiss, and this goes back to the FFVII remake when she is not her usual self.
This is an amazing retelling of Aerith going off to the Forgotten Capital by herself and biding her farewell to Cloud through his dreams. It's more elaborated, more emotionally charged and just makes the next turn of events hurt more 😢 Seeing Sephiroth enter the church after she pushes Cloud away with the music score at peak gave me the chills.
Listen to the background music on this dream date. "No Promises to Keep" is clearly a riff off of this dream sequence. Quite powerful when taken all together.
Oh noooo I noticed that he got out of his wheelchair at the beginning. Whoever this Aerith is - the original, whatever, she knows everything, and I’m crying agian
@@siennaplayz3143well yes and no, Aerith gets the memories from the materia from future Aerith by proxy of Cloud going back to his own timeline. They are not the same person but have now identical memories so they might as well be
I sort of think that after Cloud and Aerith fall off the Forgotten Capital, they took the place of their counterpart in this third timeline. So essentially it should be the same Cloud and Aerith we played as in the game
@@bukojoetheslapsoils8273 Or cloud take his place. Zack parents are still alive so he has a reason to go back home. Cloud on the other hand has no family or relatives. @@dalilasestu i know cloud is very iconic and beloved characters, the way i see it as long as cloud lives sephiroth lives as well. It's like a curse. All of this is a wild guess and not sure how the 3rd install will look like. It will be good if all of them lives and get a happy ending, but that will be too obvious.
This is so heartbreaking. We all know that aerith dies, but with this remake, with so much more dialogue, square enix has somehow made this event so much more emotional.
Seriously, cinematic storytelling at its finest. Prayers to friends who couldn’t play Remake or Rebirth because they have returned to the lifestream. ❤🙏

I hate that the game ended here..... For me personally, it´s so important, that the story onward will be about Cloud and Aerith, that they will do anything to get back together. Not to know that for for 3 years! Makes me mad! We sure know that something is going on. We have to see how the resolution will be. We have the OG. In this, they must be together. I know that many prefer Tifa + Cloud. But in this game, oh my god... I Love Tifa... but Aerith, it´s on a whole other level.. Tifa is kind and sweet, but Aerith penetrate Clouds hard shell like an arrow. She is the one. A girl like her is perfect. ----- It´s funny also that last summer when i played FF16, I loved it! But FF7Rebirth, it´s on another level. These Characters are so perfect.
One of the best scenes in all gaming imo. This was extremely emotional and perfect for their relationship to bloom. Never had enough time in the OG because of budget and time constraints.
I haven't seen the full game yet, but this date is the peak of Cloud's adorableness/Clerith so far. When Aerith first leads him by the hand ( 4:25 ), he's surprised. But it doesn't take him long to warm up because literally moments later, he was already prepared for Aerith ( 6:46 ), then he smiles at her and walks hand-in-hand-instead of being pulled along like before. Little detail, but he was also getting more involved in the date. At 6:26-6:29 , he's seen walking a bit ahead of Aerith, like he's looking for where HE wants to take her next. At 6:38 , he finds the photographer and points it out for her (he is also visibly content). When the photographer doesn't choose them, he also takes the initiative to ask why ( 7:58 ). That just shows that he knows Aerith wanted the picture, and probably wanted it for himself too. If he didn't care, he wouldn't have bothered to ask. Say what you will, but this date shows that it's not all one-sided. Cloud is clearly romantically interested in Aerith enough to want to take the lead for a bit, and warm up to her so easily. Not to mention at the end, where Cloud affirms that he'd like to have a "next time" ( 9:34 ) . Very cute!
But then why did aerith emphasize the whole differences between liking. When cloud says next time, she is happy but then immediately contemplates what she means by liking him. When she first said “I really like you cloud,” she DIDNT italicized the word liking. She italicized liking when she began explaining. The differences
@@bradhorowitz2765 because as much as she may have feelings for him and want to have them be reciprocated by Cloud, she is aware of her fate and doesnt want him to suffer. In Remake, when you unlock the special scene outside her home after the collapse of the Sector 7 plate and Shinra kidnapping her, she assures him she's fine and also asks him to not fall in love with her. That dialogue connects with this scene.
@@bradhorowitz2765 As @jessielou9138 said, Aerith didn't confess to him because she knows that her fate is death. In Remake, she warns Cloud about his developing feelings. But here, she's figured out that it's too late to stop Cloud ( which is why she has that line at 9:42 , that's her realizing Cloud is falling for her ) so she resorts to affirming he shouldn't feel guilty about her death, embracing him as comfort ( 10:33 ) . She doesn't confirm nor deny any romantic sentiment because, while she's interested in him too, she can't settle with him, die, and end up hurting him more in the process. Even during the date, Sephiroth is hunting her, threatening her.
@@moonmoon2479 It's implied that although Cloud is conscious, he and Aerith are inside a dream-her dream ( 0:44 ). Cloud is able to be a part of it because Aerith brought him in ( at 0:00 - 0:13 , she "wakes" him into the dream ) . So, since this is her dream, it's impacted by her lingering feelings. Every vendor that they run into has dialogue that foreshadows Aerith's burdens. 4:08 - "I'll miss these moments." 6:16 - "If only we all had more time, am I right?" 8:04 - "You don't look like you're on a date. More like at a funeral." All this dialogue points back to a longing for more time. Aerith knows of her fate, which is why she yearns to have more time-to save the planet, to save Cloud, etc. The line about the funeral especially makes it clear that they aren't actually at Sector 5, and all those vendors aren't real ( the photographer had no way of picking out Aerith's somber attitude from just a pose ). It's just Aerith spending one last date in a dream with Cloud, but she can't help but let her fears bleed into it. She can't hide they're weighing her down, and that's why Cloud immediately notices ( 10:13 ). The date didn't go poorly because of their chemistry, or what have you-but because Aerith couldn't focus on feeling happy. She couldn't possibly given Sephiroth was tormenting her even in her dreams.
Aerith knows she will be soon killed by Sephiroth so she looks almost crying through this date. You can listen to NPtK only on this part. This Dream date is her last date and her dream, noted on the Sound Track. She really wanted to spend time with Cloud at the last moment, but he never understood how she felt → Hollow
This scene absolutely broke me, having played FF7 back in 97. The way I took this scene was that this was OG Aerith living up to a promise of a date she and Cloud never had in the original game. I don't know if anybody thought the same.
Sephiroph explained that when they defeated the whispers the planet created alternate versions of events to try save itself as the canon had been changed, but each of those fail, as they don’t enact the events when they play out. The party must defeat him the way they did originally. They truly are it’s only hope.
@@mambo_combo Eh maybe I dunno, there isn't much to do in the 5th sector in the 1st place. Regardless on if it's a callback or not, Aerith likes Cloud, said she keeps talking about wanting to get to know the real him, and Marlene told Zack that Aerith likes Cloud now, which Zack accepts like a mature dude.
@@jackmayor3574 cloud pretty much rejects her here though. I don't know it just seemed like they are showing a lot of Zack specially with that ribbon. It seems the dream date was just a bad version of the one Zack and aerith had.
I guess widows can't date anymore right, considering the logic of people here?? Because a lot of people think that Aerith is not allowed to move on from Zack, trust me, if she was so hang up on Zack as everyone says, the game would show her seeing Zack instead of Cloud or she would call Cloud Zack by mistake.
@@CLOUDSTRIFF Of course he can, matter of fact he did, you as the player can even make it happen before the fated scene, but people act like when Cloud do it, it's beautiful and romantic but when Aerith do it, she's painted as a manipulative person and is a betrayal of Zack and all that, which is not the point Square is trying to make with their main heroine, the whole point of moving on is one of the story's subjects.
Literally chose to spend her last moments on a date with Cloud instead of Zack. That should tell everyone who her hearts belongs to. To some people, weirdos, Aerith can’t have a life outside of Zack.
My final thoughts on all this. I do try to base them on in-game info, but take them with a bit of skepsis. I might be wrong, and there is a posibility that the plot details for the part 3 are not finalized yet, so I may be right today, but may be wrong in a few years. Now watch the hands: 1. Yes, it is a sequel to the OG, just not a chronologial one. Not an expanded retelling. Sephiroth is definitely playing against the plot of the OG, and the Shinra - Wutai-led coalition war is a next big thing. My suspicion is that Sephiroth aims at sabotaging Shinra ability to bring down the barrier around Northern Crater. Coalition does not need to win, it must cripple Midgar's power generation capabilities to make Shinra unable to fire the Junon Canon, or to make the shot not powerful enough. 2. At the beginning of the Rebirth we are aware about three realities/timelines: OG, Rebirth/Remake (will be labeled as R), Zack's (will be labeled as Z1). Z1 is a result of branching from the R at the end of the remake. Realities can be differentiated by the Stamps (Shinra mascots), amongst other things. Hound for R, terrier for Z1. Zack sees the rift in the sky in Z1. Aerith "does not like the sky" in R, because she also sees the rift (new ending for Remake). 3. These worlds are connected through the lifestream, Z1 is dying, but it's not an afterlife. "A world that have accepted it's fate", per Sephiroth's words. 4. Marlene words are important, but you must always keep in mind, that she's a kid, who speaks her impression of what she saw, not what actually must be done. 5. Zack is told by Marlene, that if Aerith wakes up in Z1, she dies, how Cloud almost saves her, but "does not make it in time". To avert that "he gotta make Cloud better". 6. Later, we see Zack on the bike at the tunnel crossroads (symbolic). He must chose a path - he takes the left tunnel to help Biggs at the Reactor 6, or he takes the right tunnel, and goes after Hojo, to get possible cure for Cloud. He remembers his talk with Marlene about Cloud and Aerith. He takes the right path, and goes after Hojo. As he disappears, we see bright light stream from the left tunnel. 7. After fighting Shinra troops at the Shinra HQ he goes to help Biggs at the Reactor 6. He sees Biggs eating chips, the chips pack has Stamp's image, but it's a bulldog (or a pug) now. With his previous choice Zack branches new, Z2 reality, in which he is now. Important. 8. Later, Aerith (I believe OG Aerith is involved) wakes up herself and Cloud, they have what looks like farewell party/date. She sees black feather, and hears Sephiroth's voice "So this is where you've been hiding. In a world that has accepted its fate. Just as you must". She is visibly upset. 9. Later, we see Zack at the church entrance. Sephiroth arrives, says that he wants piece of "no, not him", kicks Zack of his feet, and enters the church. We see Aerith giving Cloud white materia and pushing him into a "portal". Likely, she gets killed. But it's Z2, not Z1! 10. We can skip to the ending now. Party arrives at the Ancient Capital. Cloud approaches Aerith, Sephiroth appears. Cloud stops him, but either Sephiroth, or white whispers/Aerith revrite the outcome for everyone, but Cloud (to a degree). Fighting ensues, as it progresses, Cloud meets Zack, they fight together, Sephiroth splits words again, Zack screams: "Cloud! Save her"! and gets back to what presumably is Z2. Z2 gets destroyed by the Meteor after his fight with Sephiroth Reborn. Zack is saved by Aerith. He literally breaks the 4th wall by looking at the camera and saying "seeya". 11. Cloud fights Sephiroth in his One-Winged Angel form together with Aerith. Aerith (I think it's OG Aerith) thanks Cloud for "what he did there". 12. After the fight Cloud approaches Aerith body. He sees party mourning her, but he sees her lying down in a different pose. As he approaches her, he steps trough the bright light barrier (barrier between realities). The party is no longer visible. He takes her in his arms, and says "Aerith... Wake up". She slowly wakes up, smiling at him. She looks weak, as one who was recently ill would. 13. Cutscene after the burial. 14. Glenn/Rufus scene. We learn that it was Sephiroth all along behind the Wutai retaining some of it's military strength and sovereinity (it was conquered and turned into a resort to humiliate them in the OG). 15. Zack scene. "Who's to say they can't unite again"? 16. Later, Cloud is able to interact with Aerith. He sees the rift in the sky, similar to the one in Z1 world. All that being said, what I think happened, is that Sephiroth was tricked into believing that he was able to find and kill Aerith, who was "hiding" from him. Zack making Cloud better was never about Zack actually MAKING Cloud better, but about making a correct CHOICE at the correct time. By doing this, he created Z2 reality, in which Sephiroth kills Aerith, but Z1 reality still exists, and Aerith is still there in a coma. It is reasonable to assume that when Cloud says "Aerith... Wake up", he literally wakes her up in Z1. Zack took the right path in all the meanings of the word. What remains ambiguous, is the exact fate of Aerith from R, but I suspect, with Z1 being a branch of R, and Aerith seeing the rift while being in R, a reintegration of a sort happened.
I kinda love the idea but hate how complicated it gets 😅 More ideas for your point 10., I think Cloud successfully saves Aerith from Sephy because we see a new rainbow barrier appear just as he wins, like it created a new world/timeline. After that it cuts to the black whispers unblocking the way for the party members and then back to Aerith, you hear the static as the screen goes from bright/white to green and shows that she died in Clouds original timeline. For some reason, Cloud can see both realities or is stuck in a merge of both worlds where she lives and dies?? The same goes for Aerith, but the other way around. Cloud can see into the reality where she 'wakes up' like a window, likewise, she also sees into his world but can only interact with him and not the others. but the idea of the Aerith he wakes up is the coma Aerith in Z1 is very interesting and I thought about that too! I also noticed at 0:16 there's an interesting black fade transition from Cloud staggering out of his wheelchair, to him looking around the room... like he just woke up a second time in that body ?? very strange
@@elizadoolittle9657 It gets even more complicated. I haven't originally noticed at least two more realities: one for this dream date, and one more for Zack.
Shes dead dead. You guys really need to let this go. Her final appearance in rebirth is simply to keep the story consistent with whats happening with advent children
@@netfan7117 theres nothing to argue abt aerith death. Every single party member was saddened by it. Cloud and only cloud saw her presence. And if you actually played the game, you wouldv known cloud mental state is getting worse and worse and cloud is in denial. This is even more obvious if you take consideration what would happen next in the OG. I really hate to break it for you, but for every single major plot point, the remakes have always been faithful to the og. And this one is no different.
I don't think it's alternate timeline. I think it's original Aerith hiding from original Sephiroth in between worlds (and gets caught). she dragged Cloud there so he could save everyone. and the death scene we saw - it's also original Aerith. we see Cloud saying something but not hear what, I bet it's classic "Aerith won't laugh again". and 2nd timeline is where she lives, so he isn't hallucinating.
In a sense. But how would I put it... Sephy was shown what he wanted to see... You should have followed the Stamps in Zack's timeline better. And when listening to Marlene, you must always remember, that she's a kid, and her words should not always be taken literally. I think, they were not about the end result, but more about a proper choice at a proper time.
@netfan7117 mhm. you take it too directly, and FF series are never direct. devs themselves even said they made us dig and think of the ending, looking through. so I tend to believe it's way more than it seems and won't be as simple as that - besides, we already saw Cloud's redemption arc in second part of OG and in whole AC. and since whole Remake is about "Make things right", I highly doubt that all we'll get will be simple "fate is inevitable".
The Aerith in this scene is an Aerith where her consciousness from Zack's alternate reality, full of all the memories and knowledge of the future, merges with the Aerith from Rebirth reality. Both Cloud and Aerith wake up in this alternate world after falling into the depths together. After the date scene, they both return to the Rebirth world and Cloud gives the White materia to his Aerith, who now also has regained the memories that were stolen from her by the whispers in Remake. All of this needed to happen because the white materia that Rebirth Aerith had was empty and could no longer be used to summon Holy.
10:54 Did anyone else notice when Aerith says “thank you” Cloud looks startled? 💖 I heard in Japanese saying “thank you” to a romantic interest can be a saying similar to “I love you”. Yuna says “I love you/Thank you” to Tidus at the end of ffX as well. Which would explain Clouds reaction and why she apologises quickly in embarrassment, because it can be a double meaning.
Uhh I know Japanese and I don't think you should read into that too much. "Thank you" in Japanese depends on situational contexts just like english, so the phrase itself does not indicate romantic interest.
I know Japanese and it depends on the exact words she used in Japanese. There are many ways to say "I love you" in Japanese, and all of them have different implications (Japanese is complicated like that 😂). Could be like you said, but do not be so sure about it because, again, it depends on which exact words she used. If she just said "ありがとう" then nah, it was just a regular thank you.
@@DerBunnyI watched a stream of Rebirth on a Japanese UA-camr. I was curious about the dialogue differences, even though my Japanese is very limited, Aerith said “arigatou” in the original version. So the English translation was correct.
Their love knows no bounds, this just proves no matter what timeline or alternate world they're in, Aerith will ALWAYS protect and love cloud. Cloud looks happy spending time with Aerith, and i dont blame him. She's so adorable 😍. And the fact that this is NON OPTIONAL! Marlene even confirms what we've been saying all these years to Zack himself because that's what Aerith showed her when she rescued her. I also find it funny how Aerith spoiled the ending to Marlene lol Update: Ultimania confirmed this isn't rebirth Aerith, so im guessing THIS Aerith died but saved Cloud before giving her materia to him as some sort of parting gift once again proving she's always looking out for him 😢😢😢❤❤❤
She love him, more than anyone. She spent a little time left of her to a date with Cloud, to do the thing they never get a chance to do, and say the thing she never get a chance to say: “I really like you Cloud. Thank you for everything”…
Aerith will be saved and I will change time and space itself if I do not get that by part 3. I would rather see the universe burn than not get that happy end in the game I played what feels like so many lifetimes ago. Dramatization aside this means weirdly much to me.
Here is my theory for this scene. 12:50 when the boundaries of fate are breached, new worlds are born. 13:13 some quickly perish...while others endure. - Right before the final fight with sephiroth in the Remake, we the party breached the boundaries, creating a world where Zack lives(where this event is happening). - In this scene, 0:38 aerith explains "We could call it a 'Homecoming' ", the same term possessed cloud uses when he tries to kill Elena, so my conclusion cloud and aerith did not survive the fall in the scene right before this, they died and got sent to another world. Thats why the photographer said they were doing a funeral instead of a date 8:05. - At the church, she gave the white materia and pushed cloud into a breach creating a world where he survived, That why she said 11:25 "it is about saving the world-and *you*". (now we have three worlds??) - Why i say he got sent into another world by aerith? because in the ending scene, he is in possession of the black materia again, which if it were the same world he already gave to sephiroth before he fell down with aerith.
Uhm in japanese he says "she looks like shes about to cry" since Aerith knows whats gonna happen and thats why Cloud turns to her and tries to talk. I highly doubt they are dead at that point
So there are 3 separate timelines at this point. With the 3rd being hinted at at the end. Main timeline: Aerith is killed but is able to use her sacrifice to use/give the white materia. Second/Zack’s timeline: Aerith is potentially alive/unconfirmed death as Sephiroth does find her. Barrett and Tifa are dead in this timeline however. Third timeline: The lifestream timeline. In the FF7 Ultimania (lore book) it says that by sheer will Aerith is alive in the lifestream and can manipulate it. She acts similar to that of an angel, helping those who passed away cope/resolve in the lifestream. Which would be how she is able to communicate with Cloud at the end of Rebirth by manipulating not only the lifestream but Cloud as well. Since they are going for the whole multiverse approach now, Aerith will likely still play a major role in part 3. Similar to Zack’s perspective. They may even “bring her back” by merging timelines like when Cloud and Zack merged or when Cloud and lifestream Aerith merged for the final fight.
I'm wondering if we'll lose aerith completely as a party member/player. Obviously, in OG ff7, when aerith dies, that's it, she's no longer a party member but I'm wondering how part3 is going to handle it if aerith is still a player? Hoping for a party of two with Zack and Aerith in his timeline, that would be pretty cool.
@@LuoQiinIf I were to bet, I would say you are correct in that she would take on a role in either the 2nd or 3rd timeline. Similar to how we played as Zack during his but it will likely be more flushed out/actual gameplay instead of narrative. Barrett and Tifa are dead but Cloud is still alive in Zacks timeline and when we see Sepiroth find Aerith, we don't see actual confirmation of him killing her in that timeline. She even says "She can handle him" so my guess would be she survives that encounter. I can see them doing the Aerith lives in both the 2nd and 3rd timeline and then one of those timelines merge with the main one and Aerith "jumps" back into the main timeline.
@LuoQiin I believe she wouldn't be part of the party to give way to Vincent and Cid. Having 9 playable characters in the original never seemed as complicated now in the remake. Zack has to be a must since the last time we see him, he's at the church.
@@jessielou9138 We'll see when part 3 is realeased since nothing is confirmed, and personally, I think Aerith in Zacks timeline is still in her bed a long with cloud in his wheelchair. Why do I think that? Well, a lot of FF7 rebirth doesn't make sense without explanation and just happens for the narrative? Like aerith waking up with cloud with all their memories from a different timeline and then immediately proceeding to go on a dream date, it just.. strange. But again. We'll see in part 3.
@LuoQiin I pictured her being present at the most important boss battles (vs. Sephiroth, Jenova), because if they stick to the original, there will be at time in the game in which neither Cloud or Tifa are available, the time when Cloud gets acute mako poisoning and we get to control Cid in the original.
The music when she pushes him into the flowers. Sephiroth behind her omnious like when he was stabbing her. How did they make this scene so good? It's basically the death scene.

I want to imagine after she pushes Cloud into reality, she was able to fend of Sephiroth and then that's why she came back to fight alongside Cloud in the end. Even in the main timeline - she was developing her Cetra powers and god knows how OP she is in game. One thing that never made sense to me in the OG was why she did everything on her own and she acted so confident that she *could* take Sephiroth down when it was highly unlikely - but I think the Remake gave a really good answer to why she behaved that way. Not that she was cocky - but she didn't want Cloud and the others to get hurt and she was, deep down always afraid to ask for help and that's why she was always playful but distant. She tried to warn Cloud to not get too close but she ended up falling in love with him and the friends she made on her journey and to extent the world. It was that brief journey outside the steel sky that finally taught her to accept who she really is. But she didn't realise that she hurt everyone by going at it all alone. That's what makes her sacrifice the most meaningful and what makes her such a flawed but amazingly written character.
cloud loves both tifa and aerith, whether you think he loves one more over the other depends heavily on your personal interpretation of the story, the characters and also the choices you as the player make, it's always been like that. the devs said time and time again that they created cloud to be a character who has feelings for both girls and is torn between them and you as the player can kind of go either direction depending on your choices and you can interpret the romance aspect in whichever way you want. that's why the devs have always left things up for player interpretation.
Curious how do you interpret the whole ‘liking but not liking’ line. That honestly seals it for me. She has Zack and she has Cloud. They both mean completely different things to her. Even though she might have mixed them up at first. This scene is a resolution of that. And allows her to have a moment in the church uncomprimised by confusion. Thats the whole point no?
@@mikev8746 no, it's still the same thing for disc 2 and for AC and post AC. the only difference is that in disc 2 since aerith died tifa got more spotlight and her major character arc revolves around cloud himself whereas aerith's character arc in the OG was mostly about saving the planet so naturally cloud and tifa got a lot of moments and especially since aerith was no longer present in the story it made it "easier" for ppl to ship them however you don't even have to interpret their moments as romantic if you don't want to, which is why even the famous HW scene has 2 versions, a low affection one and high affection one. the romance exists in the game but it's never forced upon you. there has never been a confirmed canon ship by the devs (they feed both ships and leave it ambiguous, that was always the point). i mean the devs were asked directly if cloud and tifa ever get together after AC and nomura just said "idk" and nojima said "even without sephiroth and geostigma idk if they're romantically compatible" . if they wanted to make it clear that one of the pairings is "the canon one", they would've done that but they didn't for nearly 30 years bc once again it was always meant to be ambiguous and up for you as the player to interpret based on your preferences and what you take away from the story.
@@ugh5281 While true that you can especially not interpret things as such in the OG clearly and they didn't outright confirm the ships to a degree that makes it indubitable. It's obvious and they have said that they are making this less ambiguous in the remakes. But I can't disagree with anything you stated about OG because that is true you can look at it like that and the game never really goes out of it's way to confront the audience on anything or that. Leaving allot to own interpretation. But not everything obviously. So there are definetly allot of moments in disc 2 that give the ammunition. You can't dispute these things. But if those things come to fruition? Yeah as you said you can kind of quint the other way. Though I don't know why one would want that given that it's either alone or together with one character. Given that death is rather final. That was then though and their motivations back then vs now clearly have changed. We have to see how it all plays out but their interest in keeping it ambiguous post FF7 compilation are allot less warranted than pre.
Rebirth really did wonders for VII series. It's amazing how these scenes really are able to grab your full attention with the dialogue and the overall narrative that's so familiar yet in so many ways full of mystery. It's such an original way to remake a classic, by making it a sequel as well.
I think the most poignant thing of all is that even in the dream world where Cloud and Aerith are together, she still sacrifices herself to save the true reality. It's the reason why her character is so compelling. She is a Christ-like figure who willingly gives everything up in every situation for the good of everyone else.
Maybe they will...i mean...we changed fate in remake...whats the point of that if she still dies permenantly, in the scene this time when she died, it was different
Love every metaphor of this sequence. Be it the gift, the sweets, or the photo, whatever you choose, the outcomes were inevitable (in a bad way which signaling of what's to come). Cloud might not like them, but aerith accepted that everything wasn't so bad and cherished every moment of them. And that part in the church, where she said "At least I know now, where you and I **stand**, I mean". After she discussed two different type of "liking", she crossed the heart shape petals (like crossing the line separating two "liking") to stand and hug cloud.... Beautiful!
Try to imagine that you already know your fate, have you confessed your love to the person you love? That person will be tormented in extreme suffering (or even more extreme). So it can be said that Aerith sacrificed a lot of things including her emotions so that Cloud could live and move on (but he couldn't get over it, poor Cloud).😢
I didn't even realize it until I was checking something out in TOTP, but it contrast's how Tifa was describing her relationship with Cloud in the first couple of pgs when she was upset that he didn't say anything before leaving Midgard and later when realizing her feelings for him. “Thus, Tifa didn't hear about Cloud's departure until the next moming. There had been no goodbye. No promise to meet again. No hug." "She’d come to understand that she did like him. And it was that special kind of “like” -the one that ties up your heart, making you yearn to be with that person for the rest of your days.” Cloud speaks with Aerith before setting off in the end. They hug in the date, promise to meet each other again and Aerith says goodbye in the end. Aerith realizes she does like Cloud because during the dream date, she chose to spend her last moments with him before Sephiroth arrived as opposed to moving Zack in other worlds as well later on. It's all just so 😢
What's fascinating about this one is that everyone says something like "I'll miss this" or "this is my final hurrah". I think all the stall owners are people who died when the plate collapsed. This is the afterlife for them. They all know that they are essentially retiring after this, so they are enjoying the moment.
I believe the first Aerith is from OG, she knows everything and tells Cloud "Whatever happens, don't blame yourself" because we know Cloud still blame until the end of AC. the OG Aerith must give white material to Cloud, because the RE one is empty. When Aerith is stabbed, the white material goes back to lifestream, and that is why Aerith's death is destiny (white material must go back to lifestream for the "next cycle"). It is more touching to see OG Aerith's emotional act, she just uses this dream to hold the last date/chance with Cloud. When pushing Cloud back to the reality, she says "It is been fun" with totally sad face…because this is the farewell and there is no "Next Time"😢
This entire date took place in Zack's alternate reality. Cloud wakes up in Aerith's bedroom where he was sitting in the wheel chair - same wheel chair that Zack left him before he went out to find Biggs and Hojo. Aerith woke up in this alternate reality, got up from her bed and placed the ribbon and white materia back on her hair. Then the both of them went on their Sector 5 date. Everyone in this world is bidding their goodbyes because the world is ending. Elmira tells Zack that the world is ending, that's why Shinra is no longer interested in re-acquiring Aerith. Looking at the sky, it is the same as the sky that Zack saw when he looked up - sky with a big tear going through it. Zack was sitting on the church steps when Sephiroth walks up to the church - the same church where Sephiroth tries to slash at Zack and sends him into a void. This scene is implied to happen right before Sephiroth walks into the Sector 5 church as Aerith is pushing Cloud into the portal in the ground. The way I interpret this scene is as follows: - Both Cloud and Aerith enter Zack's alternate reality when they fall together into the chasm after Cloud hands the black materia to Sephiroth. Their spirit and consciousness enter the Aerith and Cloud of Zack's alternate reality and the two, who were unconscious for the entire game, wake up and go on a final date. Aerith from the main reality merges with the Aerith from Zack's world and she remembers her fate, which was originally stolen from her by the whispers in Hojo's lab in Remake. She confesses her feelings to Cloud, says her farewells to him, and gives him her untarnished White Materia so that Cloud can give it to the Aerith from his world in order to summon Holy and stop Meteor. Both Cloud and Aerith wake up in the original reality and Cloud gives the untainted white materia to Aerith and she gives him her empty one (the one that was altered when the whispers stole her memories). I think this date scene is the perfect summation of Aerith and Cloud's romantic feelings for each other. While they are going on their date, No Promises to Keep plays in the background - similar to how Hollow was playing in the background during the Sector 5 missions with Cloud and Aerith in Remake.
It can not be in the Timeline where zack survived at the end of the remake. When u pay attention to the stamp bags, you'll see that these are different worlds. When u fight sephi with her at the end, she says "Thank you cloud for what u did back there" (maybe its the OG Aerith) My guess is, when Cloud at the end says "wake up, aerith", that he means the sleeping Aerith in the Remake-Ending-Zack World, since he enters a white light area where only he can see the white whispers. There were at least 3 timelines where zack was alive @neoexodeath
It's possible that there may be even more than 2 timelines. It is sort of implied that Cloud did save a version of Aerith. Now which version this is and what world she came from, who knows?
@@neoexodeath I prefer sequential timeline theory. It doesn't make sense that alive Aerith in mutiverse is so powerful to be able to "tansloate" but not OG/RE one before her death. I remember OG Sephirorh could create the scene/dream of Niflheim and told Cloud the "solder" wasn't him when the team was approaching Northem Cave. The same When Cloud & Tifa in lifestream they could create the scene in the past. So I believe only OG Aerith who died and absorbed the knowledge from lifestream can create "the dream" for giving white material to Cloud, as well as enjoying the moment with Cloud. As for Zack' timeline, I also prefer he is not alive but in lifestream. Just like he says in RE: "everything is messed up"… On top of that, I wonder if it possible Sephirorh would like to unify all the sequential timeline and led to collapse of the planet? he wants to be the God of infinity but Aerith says "there no infinity "…
@@vincentkao9168 its because of sephiroth .... he's the one tempering it and the world using aerith the last cetra as a counter to sephiroth bullshit ..thats why the OG cant do all this before she die ... so it basicly sephiroth and aerith fighting and the gang get cought in it ... thats why the last fight between sephiroth vs aerith and cloud sephiroth saying he is underestimated her ... cuz what he do she doing it too ... the white and black whisperer is aerith and sephiroth representation the white want the OG timeline to be exactly how it use to be ..the black one fcking with it ...oh and one thing Zack ...i think he also a miscalculation from sephiroth cuz he is aware now and changing timeline so he survives ( the wisperer try to get him 2 times inside shinra wich he died and the one with biggs he survives cus he ran instead of fighting wich will result in his dead )
This is the part I keep thinking about after finishing the game. This entire sequence is heartbreaking and chilling at the same time. It’s just so melancholy knowing what’s going to happen and seeing Aerith all happy even though she knows. Plus the music, and nothing going right. And then of course the emotional heart breaking scene in the church. It’s all just really heart shattering
@@dalilasestu bro obviously is in love with her, so much that Barret goes in and asks him directly "which one" lmao. He has problems expressing his feelings that's all.
After she says "Thank you" in the Japanese and the French version, at least, she's about to cry. Directly related to what the photographer said previously in both version. Don't understand why the English localization missed that ...
I mean Aerith did have a point in the final fight against Sephiroth. Why does he want to fight so hard to have a life of loneliness? Even he couldn’t answer that.
Stamps: Hound (current main remake) Terrier(Zack initial branch) Bulldog(Zack deciding to go to Biggs) None of these Stamps are the ones of this timeline.
I wouldn’t be surprised in part 3 if somehow they leave the door open for Aerith to be with Cloud. Zack is gone! During the Saucer date, she didn’t even want to mention Zack. She only did it to make clear she’s wasn’t confused and wanted Cloud. She knew Cloud and Tifa were a “thing” and still pursued him! I would laugh when Aerith would boast about Cloud on a date in front of Tifa!
@@juniorlifter369I will never get this ship. The story would not work and Clouds arc would not be fulfilling. Meanwhile it leaves two other characters on the side with no resolution. One of them whom they spent an entire PSP game building up and gave a spotlight in Rebirth. No sane storyteller would do that lol. You want the game to exist in service of a personal shipping preference. Instead of accepting the meaning and character motivations. It boggles me. I know shippers on the other side also do this. But atleast its based on the OG story..
@@mikev8746 They changed this version slightly from the OG. It’s similar, but Aerith was basically nonexistent except in the lifestream after her death. So I think anything can happen. As far as the other characters, one you meaning Zack? The guy who Aerith and Cloud blew off in Rebirth! Aerith said she knows Cloud isn’t Zack and it was okay because she wanted to be with him! Aerith made a comment to Cloud that he’ll like the future her! Zack also asked Melanie if Aerith had feelings for Cloud. Zack knew Cloud and Aerith grew close. In matter of fact, I wouldn’t be surprised in the final chapter if Cloud and Zack fight. When they were together fighting Sephiroth, Zack said, “I heard you been busy.” After that statement they had to fight Sephiroth. It may not happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised! Now I’m not suggesting Tifa has no chance, BUT their relationship should be well advanced! The things Aerith is doing around Cloud Tifa should be doing and vice versa! Aerith discussing dates with Cloud. Tifa should’ve been doing that! Aerith even tells everyone IN FRONT of Tifa they were on a date! Cloud asking Aerith if she still has feelings for Zack. Cloud should be asking Tifa if she has feelings for him! I was on board with Cloud and Tifa at first. The more I got into Rebirth, it was as if the storyline centered around Cloud and Aerith! Another thing, Cloud attacking Tifa when he was in his altered state of mind. Cloud snapped out of it after attacking Tifa. When Cloud was after Aerith, Aerith willingly gave the black materia to him saying she’ll always be with him! Cloud snapped out of it having flashbacks of Aerith risking his life for her! I just don’t see that connection between Cloud and Tifa.
@@juniorlifter369 > As far as the other characters, one you meaning Zack? The guy who Aerith and Cloud blew off in Rebirth! Insane take, how could you say that about Zack? I'm sure Aerith would disagree lol. Which she does in Rebirth btw. But I guess you didn't pay attention to that part in Gongaga. > I wouldn’t be surprised in the final chapter if Cloud and Zack fight. Congrats you're the first person whom I do this to. I'm going to stop reading your entire comment. There's no way anything past this point can be taken seriously. You have no grasp of the story and characters.
People still don’t get it man… Aerith doesn’t take Cloud in this dream date to recreate a past situation of her and Zack bc she’s missing him. I mean c’mon! It’s literally in front of your face. The whole remake/ rebirth events are a dream! Cloud’s dream! he’s in a coma reliving again the past moments! Bc he has a mission. To defeat Jenova. So you have Aerith (not the real her, her consciousness as we learned from advent children ) guiding him and often reminding him to focus on himself In remake when he fells in her church there is a scene of the real him telling him : right now you need to focus on yourself The more he dives in these memories the more he starts to think that all of this is real, (Sephiroth’s line : what do you make of this Cloud? Is any of this real ? OR IS it just a DREAM?) that the ppl who interacts with him and his closest friends, are real… this is exactly why you should watch Aerith’s resolution scene from remake. ‘’ you can’t fall in love with me. Even if you think you have, its not real’’ in Japanese context is even more obvious ‘’ its only in your I M A G I N A T I O N’’. Aerith is taking Cloud to this dream date to properly prepare him for what is coming next, to comfort him .. she’s telling him ‘’ whatever happens don’t blame yourself’’ this is a callback to Advent children movie: ‘’ i never blamed you, not once , you came for me that’s all that matters now’’. About the Marlene /Zack scene : Marlene is telling him that now she has feelings for Cloud. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t like him anymore. Having feelings for more than one person is totally normal! She’s giving this message to her to pass it on because she sees that the more Aerith brings up Zack, the more Cloud despises him and doesn’t want to remember him. That’s why Zack needs to help him (his consciousness arrives in the final battle in rebirth where he and Cloud confront the reborn Sephiroth) Cloud is constantly having headaches whenever someone mentions Zack. Aerith cared a lot about Cloud to the point that she wrote a song for him , their reunion is gonna be really moving and maybe one of the best moments in the gaming history, before they part ways forever. Because Aerith now is engraved in his heart and he’ll an always cherish their moments.
Ps: this was my theory before any of the devs confirmed anything. Hamaguchi said recently that he wanted to bring back aerith in the og game and tried to find ways with his friend before internet even existed. Kitase also teased the whole thing and there’s also a book / prequel to Advent children movie from Nojima that confirms that as long as Sephiroth exists, so does Aerith. She can be revived so I believe part3 is gonna be very meaningful and amazing. Also the timelines are multiple worlds that do exist in a way/form so no, it’s not in Cloud’s head. Anyways take my comment with a grain of salt as it’s not actually accurate, but it’s still interesting and brings back the nostalgia and sadness.
Well there is the popular theory that there are NO multiple timelines, what we are seeing are the different worlds within the lifestream. There are hints to this, like how none of the clocks have hands in Zack's world, and most interestingly in the world where Zack, Biggs and Aerith are alive, the ones who are dead are the living ones in the main timeline.
@mochaeko.5167 Dude, are you even reading the SAME ultimania? It literally doubles down on the idea that it's NOT the multiverse. Every ff7 dev purposefully avoids calling it the multiverse or using the term 'timelines'. Instead, they always refer to it as different 'worlds', same with the game itself. Nomura even says in the ultimania it's different to the concept of 'parallel worlds' and Nojima said he studied Buddhism and Carl Jung as a hint to what's going on, and those are all rooted in the theory of the collective unconscious. There's also NPC dialogues at Cosmo Canyon that talk about the lifstream and worlds built by dreams and desires. The clues are literally all right there 🤦🏻♀️
Genuinely asking here, why are there so many Zack and Tifa purists in this video? I can’t even comment about why I love this video so much because it doesn’t match up with what others perceive as, ‘Canon’ in their eyes. I never freaking asked what was canon, I’m just trying to enjoy what I got from the game but I can’t even enjoy it because I have to be ‘corrected’ when I never freaking asked to be! Cloud and Aerith love each other, THATS what I got from playing this game, OG, watching Advent Children, reading On the way to a Smile, and playing Remake! Don’t like my take? Move on then, this video isn’t for you!
Because Clerith is viewed as a threat to these mentally ill deranged people(they sent Nojima death threats over the trailer having too much Aerith and Cloud interactions in it) and must let everyone know their ship(s) is the only correct answer instead of not being a f*cking @ssh@t and letting people ship what they want. There's bad actors in every fandom but this bunch is one of the more toxic bunch I've seen. I wouldn't be surprised if this is in part why Square will never give a clear answer on the love triangle and keep it ambiguous as possible since there's toxic people on all sides and one side will get very upset should they decide to make one *the* canon relationship.
Because they seem to get some form of validation out of the relationship of fictional characters instead of seeing it for what it is, a game with open options and up to the player's choice and interpretation.
I agree, you deserve to have your say. What I want to know is, why can’t Cloud be happy with Tifa? I find many Cleriths are ‘it’s Aerith or nothing!’ That Cloud shouldn’t find happiness anywhere except with Aerith. I’m not trying to correct you. I have my own feelings and interpretations, we’re supposed to, we’re allowed to. Only Nojima really knows what’s in store and how things will play out…
@@NebetSeta That’s the thing, that’s what YOU perceived from what you played in the game and you’re not being an asshole about it, you’re good dude! Yeah Nojima literally wrote the story and romance to be where anyone can come to their own conclusion and not exactly be wrong, but so many things point to Aerith even when she’s dead in Advent Children and onwards that me personally, can’t say the same for Tifa
This whole date is very sad and tragic. I really feel sorry for Aerith 😢 she never gets what she wants and lives a normal life. You can definitely see that there’s a deep spiritual connection between them both but it’s almost like it’s just not meant to be because the world and the greater conflict always gets in the way. This was the goodbye from Aerith ❤
I think the date takes place in a world, where the meteor is gonna come crushing down and kill everyone, hence everyone who has accepted their fate and why their isn't much time left. Aerith and Cloud's traveled there somehow. I wanna say the world that Zack traveled to, where Aerith is in a coma, because Cloud woke up in a wheelchair, like he was in that world. But idk.
I think you can travel between worlds when you sleep. We saw many times how Cloud heard Zacks voice when he went to sleep in rebirth. Like at the gold saucer
So this is how I understand it. The reality(s) where Zack survives (and where Aerith and cloud is in a coma )was created to allow for Aerith and Cloud in the remake timeline to travel back to Zack reality to retrieve a proper functional white materia( using the comatose/sleeping Aerith and Cloud as a conduit). Remake Aerith is awaken in the body of comatose Aerith grabs the fully white materia wakes up remake cloud whose in the comatose Cloud (in wheelchair) go on a date in the sector slums in Zacks reality. Aerith then brings him to the church passes the white materia over to Cloud and pushes him back to Remake reality. Whilst this is happening Zack is distracted with Biggs etc he finally gets back and waits ourside at the church. Unknowingly for Zack, this is the same moment where Aerith is handing over the white materia to Cloud . Sephiroth attacks Zack outside the church and sends him into the lifestream. This is the same moment where Aerith pushes Cloud back to Remake reality just in time and Sephiroth then enters the church to kill Aerith. (EDIT: Marlene told zack when she wakes up sephiroth would kill her, which ended up happpening) Essentially Zack was mere moments away from reuniting with Aerith and bought her some time to handover the white materia
Omg you're probably right. I only heard about this scene so far but that sounds very likely based on what I've heard. My god this game is going to be heartbreaking lol
I also thought the same... When Sephiroth said; "when the fate bla bla bla bla, a new world was born". So the remake is a new world and Zack's survives-world is the REAL one. It makes sense since Cloud is actually still in coma when Zack and him arrive at Midgar outskirts only to face Shinra army. So when in a coma Cloud actually in another world(Remakes world). Sephiroth tries to discover all the world only to hunt all the existing Aerith. But there is one world that will be born if Cloud succeeds with his journey after Aerith's death. It is the world that Aerith describes at the beach to Cloud when they have a conversation. The world where there is a "Future me" as Aerith mentioned. They will reunite again... that is what the REUNION means.
This is really the emotional climax of the game and the moment you know that Aerith isn't making it to the end alive (or at least, not completely). Almost makes up for how bizarre and confusing the actual ending is.
Their relationship is very tragic in no matter what destiny they truly will never ever be, even in a remake timeline. That said, Tifa will always be the anchor to Cloud that keeps him going and gives him a reason to live. Both dynamics are very good.
This girl has balls of steel but a heart of gold. If there is the slightest chance that she survived in any of those timelines, SE better give me the option to find her or hell will breake loose.
❤ aerith 😢 at the end I broke down, when I heard Aerith say "goodbye Claud" as he flew away with the theme of the game 😢 I really like Tifa and Aerith who are my two favorite characters, but Aerith touched me so much, she is beautiful, kind, sweet... my heart hurts so much when I see these scenes again 😢 I wish she wasn't dead ❤️
Final Fantasy VII: Schizo & Final Fantasy 7: Existential Crisis Next Installment: F1nal F@ntasy 007: Into the Cloud-_y_-verse. Edit: Darn, I just realized Cloud now has a skydiving animation in Unreal Engine 4, the ramification of this are... I'm not gonna say it outloud.
I'm never into ships or whatever nonsense, but it's definitely about Cloud and Aerith being fated to be lovers. Even if neither admits it because of fate and Aerith's death, deep down when Aerith told Cloud that she likes him, Cloud looked very delighted to hear her say that and he's all blush after that. It's obvious that they both have feelings for each other in secret although they appear to be close friends.
They 100% must have woken up in alt Zacks timeline, Aerith from the future must have saved him because she knew he cares for both her and Cloud = He'd keep their bodies safe, until the prime timeline Aerith and Cloud could use them so she could give Cloud the white materia from that timeline. They litterally wake up in the exact same spot that Zack put them in. And other than Cloud he is the only man she knows that is capable, able and willing to help her defeat Sephiroth. While i preffer Tifa for Cloud, i don't need Aerith and Zack to reunite as "lovers" again to get her "out of the way" (as i know plenty Clotis more or less do), he was gone 5 years and she was left not knowing, i can't imagine how many nights Elmyra had to hold her as she cried herself to sleep. She waited, grieved and spent all of Remake and half of Rebirth _moving_ on. Falling for Cloud was the final step for her in her journey of moving on, regardless of wheather she thinks Clouds feels the same, it was an important step in _her_ journey to come to the point were she could admit that she infact likes another man.... and is ok with that. A good looking woman like Aerith walking the streets of Midgar definatly got hit on by plenty of men over the years, she was just not ready. She would have found out the truth about what happend to him when she died and returned to the planet and joined the lifestream (were Zack's spirit it), she still moved on from him. She definatly has love in her heart for the 18 year old Zack that disapeared and never came back, but she spent 5 years without him, from 17 to 22. That's a long time for young people. Doesn't mean she feels nothing for him, just that their time as lovers in her eyes is over. I definatly want the two to get a scene in Pt3 were the two can get closure, Zack knew he had been gone years when attempted to get to Midgar, so he must have known that there was a chance that she had moved on, he just needed to see her so that he atleast could explain to her what happend. Zacks a big boy, we litterally saw him accept the news that Aerith likes Cloud like a champ, a bit sad of course, but he didn't throw a tantrum or display any anger, in fact the next thing we see is him litterally going to Hojo to try and get help for Cloud..... Like he's sad life screwed him and Aerith over, but he isn't holding any anger towards her, as he _knows_ it has been 5 years.
Fun Fact : In Japan it is common knowledge that "Thank you" [ ありがとう] has more meaning than "I love you" [ 愛してる]. This is why Japanese people tend to say thank you and/or use attitudes to express their love rather than actually saying it p.s - from google lol
7:58 In the moment as I was playing I thought it was hilarious he said they look like they’re at a funeral but now I’m rethinking it and it’s funny yet BREAKING MY HEART. I just wish they could be happy 😭😭 It just goes to show that even in Aerith’s perfect dream date, reality still pokes through, it hurts so much.
@jobian0710 This feels like a particularly beautiful thematic summary of Rebirth as a whole.

Finally someone who actually recorded this date scene while really romancing Aerith.. so Cloud responds properly "Yeah. Next time." Thank you!
Yep she already knows before this and just wanted some time with Cloud.
She misses him dearly but humanity needs her.
Hence, hence, hence.
Hey, cut me some slack with the hence, English is not my mother language 😞

I like how they avoid Aerith's theme throughout this scene until they actually reach the church.
It's like Aerith herself is trying not to think about her fate until the last moment.
They play an instrumental rendition of Rebirth’s main theme instead, which more or less focuses on her relationship with Cloud
Clerith just always feels so much more real for me. I see a lot of similarities with them and other FF couples, like Yuna and Tidus or Squall and Rinoa. I don't mind Cloti or Zerith but for me, Clerith always made more sense.

Her spirit lives on...
I didn't get particularly emotional when Aerith died in Rebirth - I've had more than two and a half decades to get over that. But here, in this scene, where she literally pushes Cloud back to reality, that broke my heart.
*_That was the true death scene, in my opinion._*
It was her way of saying goodbye. This scene made me cry like a baby. The developers know how much this game is loved and they treated it with utmost care. What a beautiful game.
And then you see Sephiroth enter the back door...
@kevindie 100% The emotional impact occurred about 15 minutes earlier than her actual death.

This date shows how good she is for Cloud and how she gets him out of his shell more
Yup 👍
@@bradhorowitz2765not to mention how poorly things actually go.
@@moonmoon2479
It's implied that although Cloud is conscious, he and Aerith are inside a dream-her dream ( 0:44 ).
4:08 - "I'll miss these moments."
6:16 - "If only we all had more time, am I right?"
8:04 - "You don't look like you're on a date. More like at a funeral."
All this dialogue points back to a longing for more time.

@@Narunata247 question ,are u implying that aerith knew that zack was there? if so then how do u know? is it shown in the game?
My final thoughts on all this. I do try to base them on in-game info, but take them with a bit of skepsis. I might be wrong, and there is a posibility that the plot details for the part 3 are not finalized yet, so I may be right today, but may be wrong in a few years. Now watch the hands:
As he approaches her, he steps trough the bright
light barrier (barrier between realities).
I kinda love the idea but hate how complicated it gets 😅
More ideas for your point 10., I think Cloud successfully saves Aerith from Sephy because we see a new rainbow barrier appear just as he wins, like it created a new world/timeline.

@@alwaysloctis besides, fighting against fate/gods is one of FF moto, like one of the biggest thing they have accross their games
Interesting.

I heard in Japanese saying “thank you” to a romantic interest can be a saying similar to “I love you”.

She love him, more than anyone. She spent a little time left of her to a date with Cloud, to do the thing they never get a chance to do, and say the thing she never get a chance to say: “I really like you Cloud. Thank you for everything”…
No promises to keep playing during the date
Aerith will be saved and I will change time and space itself if I do not get that by part 3.
I would rather see the universe burn than not get that happy end in the game I played what feels like so many lifetimes ago.
Dramatization aside this means weirdly much to me.
I'm right there with ya!
(now we have three worlds??)
- Why i say he got sent into another world by aerith? because in the ending scene, he is in possession of the black materia again, which if it were the same world he already gave to sephiroth before he fell down with aerith.
Dude look at the Stamps for clues. There's a multitude of worlds not just three.
@@punkpop101the stamp count is about 5 by the dream date I think
Worlds are converging. One cloud has the clear material another the black material. Convoluted 😅
@@shaokhan4421 Exactly. A convoluted mess haha. But we are still interested to see where this mess is going haha.
Uhm in japanese he says "she looks like shes about to cry" since Aerith knows whats gonna happen and thats why Cloud turns to her and tries to talk. I highly doubt they are dead at that point
"Whatever happens, don't blame yourself."
HOW CAN I NOT?! 😭
I love the music here. The violin version of No Promises To Keep
Masterpiece
❤
@@jessielou9138
We'll see when part 3 is realeased since nothing is confirmed, and personally, I think Aerith in Zacks timeline is still in her bed a long with cloud in his wheelchair.
Life is short, can we please just have one timeline where they survive and are together and happy?
Cloud happily accepted a new life with Tifa and their adopted children, Aerith is in the lifestream with Zack watching over them 🤷🏻♀️

The novel makes it clear that up until Cloud contracted geostigma he was living happily with Tifa and the kids. Yes, just one timeline. Let us choose our happy ending for Cloud.
Even if people can still argue that Cloud is in love with Tifa, they cannot say that Aerith is not in love with Cloud. Not after this scene
cloud loves both tifa and aerith, whether you think he loves one more over the other depends heavily on your personal interpretation of the story, the characters and also the choices you as the player make, it's always been like that. the devs said time and time again that they created cloud to be a character who has feelings for both girls and is torn between them and you as the player can kind of go either direction depending on your choices and you can interpret the romance aspect in whichever way you want. that's why the devs have always left things up for player interpretation.
@@ugh5281Until disc 2 though..
Who's cutting onions right in front of me?!
Sorry that was me 😭
@@SephirothsWife7 ah, so it was you!
She is a Christ-like figure who willingly gives everything up in every situation for the good of everyone else.
this is more sad than her death T_T
"Next time" is a hint that Cloud really wants to spend more time with Aerith. But both of them never get that chance. 😭
No hug."
"She’d come to understand that she did like him. And it was that special kind of “like” -the one that ties up your heart, making you yearn to be with that person for the rest of your days.”
Cloud speaks with Aerith before setting off in the end.
This scene was such a roller coaster ride of emotionals....from happy to sad back to happy to sad again. =(
Cloud and Aerith's themes song become so close to merging together and become one song, but they are cut short. 11:44
I love cloud and aerith
I love Aerith and Cloud
This scene hurts more then the original version
The way I interpret this scene is as follows:
- Both Cloud and Aerith enter Zack's alternate reality when they fall together into the chasm after Cloud hands the black materia to Sephiroth.
Just like he says in RE: "everything is messed up"…
On top of that, I wonder if it possible Sephirorh would like to unify all the sequential timeline and led to collapse of the planet? he wants to be the God of infinity but Aerith says "there no infinity "…

I wouldn’t be surprised in part 3 if somehow they leave the door open for Aerith to be with Cloud. Zack is gone! During the Saucer date, she didn’t even want to mention Zack. Congrats you're the first person whom I do this to. I'm going to stop reading your entire comment. There's no way anything past this point can be taken seriously. You have no grasp of the story and characters.
Why do I feel sadder each time I rewatch this?
Such a beautiful scene, particularly in the church.
People still don’t get it man…
Aerith doesn’t take Cloud in this dream date to recreate a past situation of her and Zack bc she’s missing him. I mean c’mon! It’s literally in front of your face. The whole remake/ rebirth events are a dream! Cloud’s dream!
he’s in a coma reliving again the past moments! Bc he has a mission. To defeat Jenova. So you have Aerith (not the real her, her consciousness as we learned from advent children ) guiding him and often reminding him to focus on himself
In remake when he fells in her church there is a scene of the real him telling him : right now you need to focus on yourself
The more he dives in these memories the more he starts to think that all of this is real, (Sephiroth’s line : what do you make of this Cloud? Is any of this real ? OR IS it just a DREAM?) that the ppl who interacts with him and his closest friends, are real… this is exactly why you should watch Aerith’s resolution scene from remake. ‘’ you can’t fall in love with me. Even if you think you have, its not real’’
in Japanese context is even more obvious ‘’ its only in your I M A G I N A T I O N’’.

I like your point. At last, the war between Cloti and Clerith teams can end with both teams being right :).
@@dieter5220no one is going to fight for their ships anymore because its all CANON ☺️
All is right in the world
Well there is the popular theory that there are NO multiple timelines, what we are seeing are the different worlds within the lifestream. There are hints to this, like how none of the clocks have hands in Zack's world, and most interestingly in the world where Zack, Biggs and Aerith are alive, the ones who are dead are the living ones in the main timeline.
@@jinnimoo that’s been proven wrong by the ultimania. it’s canon that there are alternate timelines and different aerith’s indeed.
They're just deeply disturbed people that cannot cope because this game disrupted their distorted perception of a 27yo story.
I couldnt help myself and looked up the ending mid game. So every scene with Aerith made it that much sweeter.😢
@@guardian860Yup, way too much setup for that
I love her. I love her so much!
This is really the emotional climax of the game and the moment you know that Aerith isn't making it to the end alive (or at least, not completely). Almost makes up for how bizarre and confusing the actual ending is.
Its a classic first date. you like eachother, but dont want to show it. And you dont know how to act so youre all awkward, but it still works.
Cloud and Tifa are great but there's something that gets me so sad about Cloud and Aerith lol
Their relationship is very tragic in no matter what destiny they truly will never ever be, even in a remake timeline. That said, Tifa will always be the anchor to Cloud that keeps him going and gives him a reason to live. Both dynamics are very good.
Aerith only likes cloud cus of Zack. Cloud is gay he doesn’t even want a woman like tifa❤
Probs bc she d word😢
The angst I love it😭
@@mobpego1345 if I was cloud I would’ve wife’s up tifa in a hearbeat
Thought this is more like a dream sequence or lifestream, how Aerith communicate with Cloud at the Sleeping Forest
No its an alternate world
10:20 oh my god so sad, she knows in a few minutes she is going to die in this timeline. Imagine knowing that :(
This girl has balls of steel but a heart of gold. If there is the slightest chance that she survived in any of those timelines, SE better give me the option to find her or hell will breake loose.
I am not the least bit surprised that the most played part of this video is where she pushes him.
After decades....this game hurts as much, if not more, now 😢
Zack changed the timelime he was in when he made the choice to save Biggs. Which is why the Stamp bag changed.
2:40 the music!!! Reminds me when "Hollow Skies" is being played in Sector 5, as well.
Final Fantasy VII: Schizo & Final Fantasy 7: Existential Crisis
Next Installment: F1nal F@ntasy 007: Into the Cloud-_y_-verse.
Edit: Darn, I just realized Cloud now has a skydiving animation in Unreal Engine 4, the ramification of this are... I'm not gonna say it outloud.
Final Fantasy VII and the Masters of the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. 🤪
Skydiving animation?
Me: matchmaking cloud x tifa ❌
Me: matchmaking cloud x aerith ✅
I'm never into ships or whatever nonsense, but it's definitely about Cloud and Aerith being fated to be lovers. Even if neither admits it because of fate and Aerith's death, deep down when Aerith told Cloud that she likes him, Cloud looked very delighted to hear her say that and he's all blush after that. It's obvious that they both have feelings for each other in secret although they appear to be close friends.
I'm gonna miss Aerith 😭
She’ll be back in Part 3
This is why Japanese people tend to say thank you and/or use attitudes to express their love rather than actually saying it
p.s - from google lol
7:58 In the moment as I was playing I thought it was hilarious he said they look like they’re at a funeral but now I’m rethinking it and it’s funny yet BREAKING MY HEART.
I just wish they could be happy 😭😭
It just goes to show that even in Aerith’s perfect dream date, reality still pokes through, it hurts so much.
In japanese he actually says "she looks like shes about to cry"
@@ErenDenizMert aww ☹️
