"Whatever happens, don't blame yourself" this line kills me so much man 💔 Reminds me of her line from Advent Children "I never blamed you, not once. You came for me, that's all that matters" UGH 😭💔
Shit, that killed me because Cloud blames himself so much in Advent Children for not saving her. Square Enix knows how to play with our hearts bc they made Aerith extra loveable on these ones to then take her away from us💔
@@Nel-ej3gh i mean to be fair this time she's not truly gone for good. we don't know for sure what they'll do with her but i am almost sure she is gonna have a way bigger presence than she originally did in the final part. plus it seems like cloud created one alternate timeline where she was saved once he blocked sephiroth's sword so it seems like she's dead in our timeline but alive in another timeline. it's all theories for now but yeah the whole multi-verse makes it confusing.
There's also another moment when they hold hands back to back after the fight with Sephiroth. That was a direct reference to Advent children where she tells him he needs to stop feeling guilt and be there for Tifa/Denzel
@@ugh5281 let’s hope for the best. I think Square Enix has seen the trauma we all got from of this and had some mercy this time lmao also, I hate how at the same time they play with our emotions with both Zack and Aerith dying a lot. Like wtf is going on at this point?
This is just so incredible. Knowing what’s going to happen…she knows and we know but Cloud is obvious. When she hugs Cloud and the music swells up into Aerith’s theme, when she says, “This isn’t about me though. It’s about saving the world, and you.” Then she thanks him. Look, I know we are all frustrated with the cryptic choices at the end, but can we appreciate how masterful this moment is? Some of the best storytelling ever.
I think the ending being left cryptic is because cloud is mentally breaking down. He can’t even fathom the water burial scene so he’s mentally blacking it out. Seems like they are saving it for when he and Tifa fall into the lifesteam and have to put his head back together, one last hurdle is accepting she died.
@@OgtonyB88 This is the one thing that people seem to forget from the original. We see from Clouds POV - this is ALL about his perspective, his unravelling... He's the unreliable narrator. The moment he gets pieced back together in part 3 and realises what's ACTUALLY happened?! None of us are ready.
@@tgriffin91the Lifestream sequence was always my favorite moment in all of gaming. They’ve built it up so much more this time, and we’re going to get to unpack even more. Cloud. Tifa. Aerith. I love these characters all so much. That shit is going to simultaneously hurt, while also unlocking the best MC’s true potential.
You mean because of the Tifa scene in Remake? If that's the case then I agree. He's finally able to let out his feelings, instead of being stoic all the time. In this entire sequence, Cloud is pretty concerned for Aerith and how weird she's acting, which is nice.
There’s also something about this alternate world where it feels like it’s a bit more of Cloud’s true self. Considering like 15 mins before this Cloud’s creepy ass was going the Shining on her ass 😂
It's also incredibly brave that in her last moments she chooses to give cloud peace. I just really love what they did with her character. Hell all of the character work in this game is just remarkable.
Did anyone else notice at 1:45 when Aerith says “thank you” Cloud looks startled? 💖 If this is a direct translation from Japanese, saying “thank you” in a romantic context is similar to saying “I love you”. Yuna says “I love you" in english and "Thank you” in Japanese to Tidus in ffX as well. Which would explain his reaction and why she tries brushing it off quickly in embarrassment. Cloud, don't be so dense and insecure, she is confessing her love to you right now 🫠
Yes! I remember this from FFX and having the same reaction then in the Yuna and Tidus scene. Definitely something that is lost in the literal translation, but I think they conveyed it well in both games with how it's said and the subtext.
This storytelling truly beats anything in movies or TV. Nothing tops moments like these in video games. Compelling dialogue, suspense, emotional impact. The icing on the cake is the best soundtrack of any media ever.
The scene in final fantasy x added to Yuna was not part of the original dialogue who was added in after it was released in America and original dialogue when something like this thank you for all the help you gave me and my friends we couldn't have done this without you just before he returns the void in which he came from he turns around to look at the one last time and says don't mention it Yuna right before he dive off into the far plane it gives Yuna and the summon a party a thumbs up before he steps off that was the extent of the original dialogue Eunice lips are moving more than what she's actually saying in the conversation which is which means she's saying something other than romance but fan shippers tendency to disregard that little facts on more interesting note the word fan divides in from word fanatic or fanaticism if that had been the original dialogue he wasn't a human being to begin with he was a manifestation of the aeons dreams he wasn't flesh and blood again put a note of the fan shippers like the seven set themselves as Yuna others as to and the others as a blitzball guardian they have a tendency to ignore the plot hole in the story and that's when square enix decided to release a romantic version by adding in the romance you can see that the dialogue doesn't match up with the lip syncing of the character.
Aerith seems to have the ability to transfer or connect her memories/consciousness and other people's to the alternate timelines. If we go by that logic, the Aerith that we've been following could still be alive, just only awake in the timeline where Zack is alive at the end of the game.
A version of her is definitely alive. Cloud split the timeline again when he blocked sephiroth's blade. This version in the church is dead, killed by Sephiroth. (It'd make sense that he's after all of them because she's his/Jenova's biggest threat). And I actually take Sephiroth at face value when he says there must eventually be a reunion of the timelines/worlds and that the lifestream connects all of the worlds and that they're all one. It gives a logical background for Aeirth's Cetra power allowing her to travel between worlds. It also I think telegraphs that the ending of the final game is going to be about the reunion of the disparate worlds, but the goal being the holy/Aeirth ending, not the meteor ending the Sephiroth is clamoring for.
Best scene in the game. Perfectly written, perfectly framed, perfectly acted, and perfectly scored. Such a heart wrenching scene, but beautiful at the same time. The debate is now over: Cloud is the love of Aerith 's life. This scene confirms it.
Here’s my thoughts on why this scene is so powerful to me: Both Aerith and Sephiroth in this scene come from the future where events of FF7 have already taken place. The point of Remake was for future Aerith to meet the party and change their fates. But with her memory and (Holy) gone due to Whispers, that plan has sort of derailed. So now both Aerith and Sephiroth are fighting with her trying to regain Holy. Say what you want about the “multiverse” idea but this scene is friggin beautiful because while Cloud finally talks to future Aerith and Holy is returned to her present self in the Sleeping Forest to see what her future self will plan… this is the first and final time Cloud sees future Aerith properly in person and it’s bittersweet cuz all she wanted to do in that short time was date Cloud in Sector 5 and ask him to not feel upset over what will happen to her before Sephiroth claims her again like the boogeyman
I think aerith and clouds consciousnesses were sent to an alternate reality aerith and cloud (that were both in a coma and still being taken care of by Zack and Elmyra). However it isn’t the terrier timeline because during the date the stamp on one of the stalls seems to be a long haired chihuahua. I also think aerith has been timeline hopping in order to protect the white materia (which maintains its essence through memories). Aerith in the beagle timeline claims that whispers took her memories of the future after they left Midgar, and that’s when she realizes her materia lost its color as well.
@@SuperNidey I don’t think it’s all that complicated. There’s also the fact that most of these plot points will be explained in the last installment of the trilogy. It makes no sense for them to reveal everything now, in the second game. However everyone is entitled their opinion and thankfully the OG game is available on almost every platform for people to replay for the same classic story :)
In the Italian subtitles, which are based on the Japanese text, the dialogue in the church appears as follows: C: This is the place. A: Exactly! C: It was too easy. A: Yes, we have so few places of our own... C: One day, we'll have plenty. A: Do you mean it? C: Yes, of course. A: (Giggles) A: I'm glad you told me how you feel. A: I... I like you, Cloud. But there are many ways to like someone. I wonder what kind mine is... C: Aerith, you're strange. You're really strange today. A: I'm sorry. --Hug A: No more guilt. A: Cloud... Thank you. --After letting go A: Sorry, don't mind me. A: Here, take it. C: But I know it means a lot to you... A: This materia will save the world. A: Goodbye, Cloud. C: But why... --She pushes him into the portal A: It's been fun. C: Aerith!
I love this scene so much that I had to watch the original Japanese version. Of course, there are some differences in the original Japanese dialogue and English version. I don’t mind the localization and love most of the changes but understanding the original does help to understand the creators vision on a deeper level without loss in translation. Cloud, “So this is the most memorable place for us?” Aerith, “That’s right.” “That was too easy.” “That’s because we don’t have many memories together.” “Then we’ll make more together.” “You serious?” “Of course.” “Then I’m glad.” ❤️
As a friend? Is she really going to wait 80 years for Cloud while Zack's just sorta there in the lifestream chilling with her? Wait nm I just remembered he's NOT in the life stream anymore? Me and Cloud have something in common, we both need some migraine tablets.
@@entropybear5847time goes out the window for the dead. 80 years for Cloud could be just 2 seconds for Aerith. And that’s still assuming Cloud lives to be an old man. This series has Nordic Mythology at its root, so our protagonist should thematically die in battle, lest he be denied entry into Valhalla. 😂
She says that she likes him ....BUT that like may signify liking as friend, that there is like and LIKE. If that like is love you dont have to point that out to the persin you are adressing. This conversation shows clearly that for current Square, Aerith doesnt love Cloud, but as a friend.
Not really; it makes cloud looks like a greedy guy who can't commit to one person. One moment he wants Tifa then Aerith, that's not love and FF are usually good at writing a good love story (Cecil Rosa, Zidane Grenat, Squall Rinoa, Tidus Yuna, Zell and Pretzels). I get it's heavily to respect the original but that is still poorly written.
@@emperorpalpatine4953 most of it has nothing to do with going through Tifa route though?? Same with Aerith, most has nothing to do with the player choice. Outside of a few decision here and there and of course the gold saucer, the story in itself portrays him as one moment having the hots for Tifa then for Aerith.
@lolcreloux you do not know how love works. You can definitely fall for more than one person, especially when you are single. Tifa and Aerith are both dream girls for any man. Cloud was unlucky/ lucky enough to run into two perfect matches at the same point in his life.
I mean back in the 90s she was extremely low poly, the animation was crude to say the least, dialogue was text boxes, and the whole thing was over in moments.
I think that was the point. The devs needed to create a scene where these two could have a bittersweet moment together, because they knew they were going to make the death scene very trippy and confusing. I'd say this was a nice trade off.
I hope this puts an end to the whole "Aerith only likes Cloud because of Zack". Whether they are destined to be together or not, it's clear that Aerith truly, genuinely, loves Cloud.
I never understood that argument. Cloud is a goofball dorky edgelord while Zack is a happy go lucky puppy energy ball. They both went through insane amounts of trauma but Zack never let it break him. They could not be more different, so why do people keep saying that Aerith only likes Cloud because of Zack?
@@rieganel7781 No? That's her trying to tell him that the like she has is deeper than that of a friend. It makes no sense in the context of the game, thebdate and everything for her to be rejecting him there
In remake Aerith said: whatever happened you can’t fall in love with me. Even if you already have, it isn’t real. She knew in the beginning. She still waiting for zack and she’s still wearing the bow!!
@BrucieDC it's been pretty much confirmed that she only said that so he wouldn't feel the pain of losing her than he did in the og and AC. Cloud's feelings are real, as well as aerith's. That being said though, there is a chance that she does still like zack more(though idk if I personally believe it)
Damn, all this timeline stuff. Can she hop, for a change, to some other timeline, grab Lucrecia and throw her into pre Niblheim incident Sepiroth? Like "dude here's your mother, chill"
I disagree. Because Sephiroth comes to kill this one. The OG one is dead and part of the lifestream, it doesn't make sense that Sephiroth would be after this one and that she would be hiding. I think this is just another timeline version of her. If it was OG her, she wouldn't have the white materia which she makes a point to give to cloud.
Nope. It seems like this Aerith and Cloud are from Zack's timeline (this one where we control Zack and they are sleeping). Aerith from this world gave her White Materia to herself from main world and then Sephiroth prolly killed her. And even if he didn't the whole world was destroyed by meteor (becouse there is no White Materia anymore). However Zack somehow transfered to another world in his last scene (I would assume to main world) and we may see him reunite with the gang in 3rd game. In the main world, however, Cloud splited universe again, blocking Sephirorh sword so we have one world where Aerith is dead as in OG connected to another world where Aerith is still alive and do her stuff :P That's how I would interpret it.
How is she the OG Aerith. The OG Aerith is dead, has been killed in the Forgotten Capital. The Aerith in this video is still alive and seemingly, is going to be killed in a different way….in the church bc we see sephiroth walk in at the last few frames there.
@@JaeJunBrianLeei don't particularly say this is the og Aerith but still this Cloud is the cloud from remake and not other timeline. Basically as I understand their consciousness travelled to other timeline and are possessing bodies of their respective counterparts.
the english translation of the lines where aerith talks about "liking" is different to the og japanese. what she is saying here is "私はクラウドが好き. でも好きにも色々あるよね. この好きはどの好きなんだろう" which translates to: "I like you, cloud. but there are many kinds of "liking". I really wonder which kind of "liking" this is/i feel." please note that, in japanese, when confessing, it's way more common to say "suki/like" (好き) instead of variations of the word loving/love. imo, saying "suki" is already a super big deal honestly
i really hate how a lot of the english translation waters down some of the scenes. this whole scene is so much more heartfelt in japanese. i saw a few japanese people react to that scene and a lot of them audably gasped once they heard her saying she likes cloud. i do think the "confession" is meant to be somewhat vague but her saying she likes cloud already has romantic implications bc you don't usually confess platonically to a friend after you just went on a date with him lmao
"I like you Cloud" would have been enough for telling him that she likes her. Going more into the differentiation might imply that she was trying to express a little bit more than that. At least that's how I understand it. And don't forget the "arigatu" whil hugging him. This may also mean more in japanese than just "thank you" Why would Cloud and her react so awkward after she said that?
You know what I don’t understand at all why they translate „Suki“ into „like“ this time cuz in FF7 remake chapter 14 she also said to cloud during the resolution scene „Suki ni naranai de“ and they translated it like „don’t fall in love with me“. Why did the translator shy away to translate it like in the remake. But honestly I kinda get it though. She was building up her courage to confess her feeling and don‘t want to be too direct so she downplayed it a bit But the thing that only someone can understand when they understand jap culture is again before she hug cloud she said „Shitsureshimasu“ directly translate it too im sorry but in this context it means she really wanted to hug him but don’t know if he has that same feeling or not so she said that to kinda get his permission a bit be fore she really hug him and express all of her feeling not only through words
My understanding: "Like" can mean a lotta different things, can't it? 'Cause there's liking [= love], and then there's liking [= similarity (to Zack)]. The English lines, even though not exactly the same as the Japanese, still did the job of conveying romance while keeping things uncertain. I believe the scene is also a little different for high vs. low affinity.
@@thegoodwin Remake Sephiroth: How many did you call?!! OG Timeline Sephiroth: All of us. Then all of a sudden around the Northern Crater, a bunch of Sephiroth variants and clones gather around cheering on about the Reunion😁 And at the end of the credits of Rebirth should been "Sephiroth will return....."
this scene hit me as hard as aerith's death in OG idk why, I think its cause the theme song went hard compared to the one played near the ending scene.
This feels like a stretch but Aerith pushing Cloud feels like a parallel to when he drops her in the water after she died. Her hair is already down, but instead of her falling, it's Cloud.

Wait this Aerith is the remake one? And the one that died in rebirth is a diff one? Cus here we dont see what happens when sephiroth approaches her and she shoves cloud (copium)
This is a different aerith. Her timeline must be fucked somehow. Like maybe cloud died or something. The reason she is acting weird is because she knows she is about to die. She wanted one last date with cloud. One last normal day with someone she likes. As sephiroth comes in to kill her because she's the only thing capable of stopping his plan. She gives her materia to main timeline cloud. Remember main timeline aeriths materia is ruined because of the first games ending I think. The whispers sucked the memories out of the materia at some point

Your friend sacrifice his life for you 5. Escape death more than I can count Yeah Cloud is God's favorite
This scene is perfection. It's everything we never got in the OG. Aerith got the confession she never had the chance to make, and we got our final goodbye to her. It's extremely bittersweet and very well done.
This versions is incredible. All of the renditions of the classic themes are insane in this game. I also LOVE the melancholic vocal one of Aerith's that plays during THAT Ifalna scene. It broke me. And the version that plays during the Jenova fight. I literally cried hearing that
thats cause they made aerith's deathscene and burial fragmented to us (the player of cloud). Cloud did laid aerith to rest like in OG FF7. They are sitting by that lake or water in Forgotten city completely devastated. Except for Cloud, cause he supressed all that and doesn't remember it. It will be shown hard to us and him in Part 3 when they rebuild his mind in the lifestream.
Honestly I think Aerith should have survived, but I m going to reserve judgment until i play part 3. I would have liked to have seen more characters from the compilation. Oates seems like he may have a slightly more important role as an npc. However Cissnei was also shuriken in before crisis. Katana aka balto from before crisis is also from Gongaga which they could have introduced. That was also a missed opportunity. Either go all out or not at all.
I always assume she had to die cause the sacrifice gives Holy the power to activate. I figured Meteor takes lives where Holy requires a life to save lives. Anyways I’m glad they didn’t allow the story to be changed but they sure as hell advertised that way.
@@TravaillesDuChanson it was stated in the OG final fantasy 7 that casting the Holy materia requires sacrifices unfortunately, you didn't play the original game.
Random thought: What if the end of part III, Cloud was able to fill the empty White materia, came back to this timeline and saved this Aerith.. I thought that would be so cool the moment Sephiroth pulls his sword to have Cloud coming down from the top of the church to deflect him. That would have a lot of semiotics.
"It's been fun" Beautiful. "It's been fun" is equivalent to her previous statement, "Every minute, every moment matters..." Aerith didn't have an entirely easy life, but she never succumbed to self-pity. She always tried to do the right thing and have fun along the way. She found friends and love, and maybe in the end, she experienced more good than she ever expected. She was about to enter the most beautiful period of her life, but she had to die. But she doesn't feel anger because she truly lived her life to the fullest. When we think about it more abstractly... Aerith is the embodiment of life. Everyone knows they must eventually die. But her message is clear. It's not important whether life is long or short; what matters is that it is fulfilled. Whoever can say before dying that they had fun, lived life as it should be lived. This scene is indeed very sad. But Aerith's message is fundamentally positive.
-> A question for everyone: What kind of feeling unites Cloud and Aerith ? friendship ? love ? something that transcends love ? I'm asking because it's perhaps one of the most fascinating relationships I've seen in video games
@@rieganel7781 he never said that though. You're probably referring to the fact that in Japanese he calls her "nakama" if you have low affection, which means "Comrade" or "companion". I think what make this moment tragic is that church is the place for marriage and they both stood on the aisle and only thing that Aerith can do is confess her love , speak it like an oath and….that’s the last thing in her last moment to do….my poor Aerith you lose so much which includes the time you have with your loved ones
the never ending clerith vs cloti feud - square is honestly a genius, having us go crazy over it for 20+ years. ive been a long time clerith fan and was anti cloti when i was younger, but i'm trying to accept that both clerith and cloti are canon and that human emotions are complicated. sigh, but i do wish we had clerith kissing scene although this right here is also incredibly touching T_T they're so cute together
Its a gold mine. If they thread carefully, the great shipping war will earn them many more millions lmao. Also, clerith didn't kiss just to even out the balance, had they kissed it would've put clerith in clear dominance, considering the fact that Rebirth is heavily in Aeriths favor, in that regard. Even so, they were blue balled in the play and were centimeters away in the skywheel.
I wish Cloti would do the same thing. Only Clerith fans are capable to accept that both ships exist. Others simply can't admit that Cloud loves Aerith too. :(
@@didinau Yeah, not to sound biased but I see more toxic shippers on CTs' side than CAs. At least the CAs stay in their own space while talking about the ship they like and bad-mouthing Tifa and Zack(I still hate them for their negative opinions of Tifa and Zack though). But the CTs invade CA spaces to harass them and force anti-CA sentiments down their throats. They also badmouth Aerith out of mainly spite while they're at it. It doesn't end there, CTs also harassed the staff of Square Enix. They harassed Aerith's English VA just for preferring Aerith over Tifa(she still likes Tifa though) and also harassed AND SENT DEATH THREATS to the writer of FF7 because the NPTK announcement trailer didn't feature Tifa enough. So far, I've never seen a single CA harass a Square staff member.
The other version has Cloud less enthusiastic when saying “next time” and the Japanese version basically friendzones her. I Tifa focused my play so I got that version and assumed that Tifa was canon.
People!!! Like, I definitely ship Cloud and Tifa. But it’s possible to form romantic feelings for more than one person in your life. It’s possible for him to have fallen for Aerith at one time and Tifa at another. Just as Aerith could have loved Zack at one point and Cloud another. Especially considering he was supposedly dead. Yikes. Like if a widow/widower falls in love and gets remarried, are you going to argue they either didn’t love their deceased spouse or don’t love the new? It’s also nice to see people handling conflicting romantic feelings while still trying to get along. Like, Cloud is going through a lot in this game.
I really don’t like this multiverse stuff they are doing on the Remake, but I got to admit this scene is amazing. The way Sephiroth enters the church while the music rises is amazing.
“I never blamed you, not once.” Doesn’t matter what timeline it is, her fate NEVER changes. I think this scene ties in with advent children. “Our place.” The place where the timelines merge and the Lifestream creates the alternate universe. She knew. She ALWAYS knew. ❤

the thing cloud didn't hesitate to hug aerith for even a second proves that he actually has feelings for her... but in the flower garden cloud hesitate some moment before hugging tifa.. its so confusing for us... they really build aerith +cloud with top notch effort then showed tifa +cloud is actually cannon.. this should be cleared in part 3.. i really want cloud ends up with aerith ..such a heartwarming sweet relation between them
What do you mean by «showed tifa and cloud as canon?» are you talking about the kiss ? The kiss is an optional scene that has 1/12 chance of appearing. And even if you still got it , cloud goes on a date with aerith regardless. Cloud didn’t even mention tifa on a date with aerith in chapter 14
I once read on reddit the concerns of fans about the plot of ff7 rebirth. People were concerned that the plot in ff7 rebirth should not resemble that of the kingdom hearts series. Unfortunately, I have to say that their fears were right because the plot of rebirth resembles the kh series, such an example is the many versions of the characters, someone dies but yet returns, and so on. I wonder what Nomura's influence was on the plot of Rebirth
Aerith is literally dead, what are you on about? There is no alternate timeline shit. This Aerith that Cloud was talking for one last time, is the original Aerith. She's telling Cloud not to blame himself for whatever is going to happen because SHE KNOWS and she is aware of what is going to happen. It's basically a warning to Cloud.
Okay, after rewatching the final segment of the game a few times, i think i came to a more solid idea of what's going on. So, for starters: 1. Sephiroth is on a multiversal hunt for Aerith, who is verse-hopping to hide from him. 2. The version of Aerith that is verse-hopping is the one that retains her memories from the future (maybe OG FF7 Aerith? Early on Remake Aerith?). This is symbolized by the white materia retaining its white color, whereas a transparent materia means it's void of memories (I think the lifestream is referred to in some extra material as a collection of memories. It'd make sense for materia, condensed forms of the lifestream, to be made of memories too). When Cloud gives Aerith the white materia in the sleeping forest segment, she regains her memories of the future. 2.1 Aerith's verse-hopping might have something to do with her being comatose on Zack's timelines and is a preventive measure against Sephiroth, who tries to eliminate the version of herself with knowledge of his plans? Hard to do when your opponent is jumping through realities. 3. The few scenes we get with Zack throughout the game are not one timeline, rather 2-4 timelines?: The first Zack timeline (Z1, beagle stamp) is the one where he stumbles into Aerith's church after the plate falls (post-credit intermission scene. Though it this one might've been lack of planning from the team? I doubt it though). The second timeline (Z2, terrier stamp) is the one where he saves comatose Aerith, the last scene from remake. From here, there are two branches: Branch A (Z3, pug stamp) has Zack go to sector 6 reactor to save Biggs (who dies), Branch B (Z4, terrier stamp still?) has Zack go confront Hojo (Biggs' status is unknown). 4. Biggs from Remake got pulled into Z2 (terrier) timeline. When he asks Zack to follow him after they first discuss the details of their near death experiences, he tells Zack that when Cloud wakes up from the mako, he'll act like nothing happened and will try to play it cool. This is in line with Remake Cloud's persona, and ends up throwing Zack for a loop because all he knows is shy, infantryman Cloud. Biggs also adds: "Hey, why not work as a merc?" and Zack asks him why, he answers "One's not enough". Because Cloud is the one merc he already knows, and he explains this later to Zack. 5. The confluence of worlds and emotions Sepiroth speaks about at the end of the game is not the momentarily reunion of Zack and Cloud's timelines. That's Aerith's doing and is supported by the fact that she guided Zack with yellow petals (Follow them... the yellow flowers), which is also why this alteration is not permanent. Sephiroth's confluence is guided by loss, which brings me to my next theory. 6. Cloud isn't really hallucinating Aerith at the end of the game, rather he is stuck between 2 timelines. In timeline A (C1), Aerith dies and this event is confirmed by everyone in the party. This is the timeline where Cloud is originally from, the canon, OG timeline. In the 2nd timeline, Cloud manages to stop Sephiroth and Aerith lives. Cloud is the only person who can see the events from this timeline. This might be happening due to Sephiroth's meddling right after Aerith takes Cloud on one final date and gets killed by Sephiroth. The Zack that joins Cloud on his fight is pulled from this "deadly date" timeline. I still don't know if it corresponds to any of the Zack timelines previously explained. 6.1 It's implied, to a certain degree, that she is aware of Cloud being stuck between two timelines. 6.2 As to why Sephiroth is killing/not killing Aerith? To everyone's guess. Mine is that, by placing Aerith in a dimensional limbo, he neutralizes her as a treath. If she dies, she can't continue meddling on his plans but gets absorbed by the lifestream and can warn her past self about Sephiroth's plans, giving her the advantage. If she lives, she stays a huge treat to him because she can warn the other's of his moves in advance and strengthen Holy. When he merges realities, she stays in limbo which means she can't continue meddling on his plans/use Holy to its fullest potential (consequences of her living) and can't warn the others of his plans/access the lifestream fully (consequences of her dying). 7. Aerith is pulling survivors into different realities. Somehow, she is able to pull Cloud and Biggs into the Zack timelines, Zack into Cloud's timeline and herself through all of these. Worlds that have people pulled into from different realities showcase the broken colorful skyline that characterizes Zack's timelines and Cloud's visions at the end of the game. These lines symbolize the confluence of realities. 8. The end of the world mentioned on Zack's timeline might not be the meteor per se, it might just be Sephiroth's reunion of worlds. (This theory is super flimsy tho). 9. The next game better be called reunion, lmao. Anyhow, these are all theories that make sense to me and I'd love to hear what other people think.
I remember when I first played FF7… I was playing the Japanese version, we did not have the luxury of Eng version… It was a first time that a character players llove can die in the middle of the game!
This are the things that emotionally breaks you. Now imagine being the person that this is happening to, no wonder cloud has mental issues so much loss. His mother his town his best friend ... Aerith never seen a protagonist endure so much.
Mmm. They pushed out of canon Maiden because it featured a scene that meant the same as this one. Aerith loves Cloud. This also kinda fits how Case of Lifestream describes Cloud from her PoV, "Lover". I still dont know how people still deny this.
As touching as this is….. This is so confusing tbh. Who is this Aerith? Is she OG Aerith, Remake Aerith or Coma Aerith? This is Zack’s timeline after all, and they both woke up in Elmyra’s house. Also, this Aerith gives him the white materia, but then takes it back in the forest and gives him the Clear materia (which is SUPPOSED to be the white materia that turned clear for some reason) only for Remake Aerith to lose this white materia when she gets kebabed??? Sephiroth walking in was a metaphor for Aerith’s upcoming death scene??? Or was he killing Coma Aerith??? Or did he not kill this Aerith at all???
It's future Aerith (perhaps the one he saved when blocking Sepiroth his murisame and creating an alternate timeline) anyways. This future Aerith gives OG Cloud the white materia cause she knows OG Cloud and Aerith have a blank non functioning white materia caused by the whispers. OG Aerith then takes the white materia from future and does her praying with it. Creating the event where she both dies and survives.
Sephiroth explicitly says it. There are multiple worlds/timelines but they are all fragments of the same whole and are destined to reunite. I think he's actually being honest when he says that. His goal is for them to reunite in a way where meteor is the outcome. While I assume the third games plot will be the party making it reunite in the holy outcome. The big question is whether Zack or Aeirth get to live in the reunified timeline. My suspicion is no and that the central theme of the game will be loss and acceptance for cloud. (Which would bring it in line with the original game).
@@dennisdonders6202 I wouldn’t call it the best emotion in the world, but it absolutely central to the human experience. But I do agree that to not have loss/acceptance be a part of the finale, would take away from the original theme of FF7

Then she thanks him.

Everyone who played Remake know what a big deal it is that Cloud hugged her back
You mean because of the Tifa scene in Remake? If that's the case then I agree. He's finally able to let out his feelings, instead of being stoic all the time. In this entire sequence, Cloud is pretty concerned for Aerith and how weird she's acting, which is nice.
There’s also something about this alternate world where it feels like it’s a bit more of Cloud’s true self. Considering like 15 mins before this Cloud’s creepy ass was going the Shining on her ass 😂

I think when Cloud will fully regains his memories, the worlds will merge into one world.
Did anyone else notice at 1:45 when Aerith says “thank you” Cloud looks startled? 💖
If this is a direct translation from Japanese, saying “thank you” in a romantic context is similar to saying “I love you”. Yuna says “I love you" in english and "Thank you” in Japanese to Tidus in ffX as well. Which would explain his reaction and why she tries brushing it off quickly in embarrassment.
Cloud, don't be so dense and insecure, she is confessing her love to you right now 🫠
You're right!!
Yes! I remember this from FFX and having the same reaction then in the Yuna and Tidus scene. Definitely something that is lost in the literal translation, but I think they conveyed it well in both games with how it's said and the subtext.
That line made a lot more sense now 😢 yuna and Tidus. Tuna 😮
All along the game we saw a tension between Cloud and Tifa… then BOOM
Thank you does not mean I love you in Japanese lol

If we go by that logic, the Aerith that we've been following could still be alive, just only awake in the timeline where Zack is alive at the end of the game.
yup she is a ancient after all super op
yep i agree with this
And before someone comes along to deny this, it was shown in the OG, the very last shot of PSX ff7 is aerith, alive in Midgard. Like a loop.
I hope this is the case, other articles have basically confirmed that shes dead

Schrödinger's Aerith
This scene is just peak storytelling ❤
Best scene in the game. Perfectly written, perfectly framed, perfectly acted, and perfectly scored.
Such a heart wrenching scene, but beautiful at the same time.
The debate is now over: Cloud is the love of Aerith 's life. This scene confirms it.
Here’s my thoughts on why this scene is so powerful to me:
Both Aerith and Sephiroth in this scene come from the future where events of FF7 have already taken place. The point of Remake was for future Aerith to meet the party and change their fates. But with her memory and (Holy) gone due to Whispers, that plan has sort of derailed. So now both Aerith and Sephiroth are fighting with her trying to regain Holy.
Say what you want about the “multiverse” idea but this scene is friggin beautiful because while Cloud finally talks to future Aerith and Holy is returned to her present self in the Sleeping Forest to see what her future self will plan…
this is the first and final time Cloud sees future Aerith properly in person and it’s bittersweet cuz all she wanted to do in that short time was date Cloud in Sector 5 and ask him to not feel upset over what will happen to her before Sephiroth claims her again like the boogeyman
That makes the colourless materia universe a prime target, the whispers fight in remake set-up Sephiroth to complete victory.
This is why I hate this remake/rebirth games. It's all confusing and shit, I don't get it why squenix thinks convoluted plot equates to good writing.
@@eepysneepyI don't find it confusing as well

A: Exactly!
C: It was too easy.

C: One day, we'll have plenty.
A: Do you mean it?
C: Yes, of course.

A: I'm glad you told me how you feel.
A: I... I like you, Cloud. But there are many ways to like someone. I wonder what kind mine is...

@@entropybear5847no not as a friend lol
@@entropybear5847 she actually love cloud more than zack
Can we accept the fact that Cloud's relationship with Aerith and Tifa are both written well?
Not really; it makes cloud looks like a greedy guy who can't commit to one person. One moment he wants Tifa then Aerith, that's not love and FF are usually good at writing a good love story (Cecil Rosa, Zidane Grenat, Squall Rinoa, Tidus Yuna, Zell and Pretzels). I get it's heavily to respect the original but that is still poorly written.
@lolcreloux Lol. That's your problem. The only way Cloud comes off like that is if you go the Tifa route through the whole game.
Both of em are important in mending clouds broken personality.
this scene was so sad, even more sadder than aeris's death
I mean back in the 90s she was extremely low poly, the animation was crude to say the least, dialogue was text boxes, and the whole thing was over in moments.
@@entropybear5847I think he/she meant the death in rebirth
Because this is her death redone in an artsy way
I think that was the point. The devs needed to create a scene where these two could have a bittersweet moment together, because they knew they were going to make the death scene very trippy and confusing. I'd say this was a nice trade off.
But it is implied that this version of Aerith is dead the moment Sephiroth enters that church.
I hope this puts an end to the whole "Aerith only likes Cloud because of Zack". Whether they are destined to be together or not, it's clear that Aerith truly, genuinely, loves Cloud.
I mean she ends the dream date by telling Cloud that she’s not sure how she likes Cloud
@@rieganel7781
No? That's her trying to tell him that the like she has is deeper than that of a friend. It makes no sense in the context of the game, thebdate and everything for her to be rejecting him there

The music puts this on such a grand scale and i love it 😆
This is OG Aerith from FF7.
The other ones we have no clue. This one is already dead and speaking to Cloud like she knows what's gonna happen.
yep lifestream ghost like star wars
In the main world, however, Cloud splited universe again, blocking Sephirorh sword so we have one world where Aerith is dead as in OG connected to another world where Aerith is still alive and do her stuff :P
That's how I would interpret it.
She was building up her courage to confess her feeling and don‘t want to be too direct so she downplayed it a bit
But the thing that only someone can understand when they understand jap culture is again before she hug cloud she said „Shitsureshimasu“ directly translate it too im sorry but in this context it means she really wanted to hug him but don’t know if he has that same feeling or not so she said that to kinda get his permission a bit be fore she really hug him and express all of her feeling not only through words

You want Sephiroth to win so badly. But you don't know the result if aerith is allowed to live?
@@jesusmedina6751 Aerith doesn't have to die to stop meteor .
I always assume she had to die cause the sacrifice gives Holy the power to activate. I figured Meteor takes lives where Holy requires a life to save lives. Anyways I’m glad they didn’t allow the story to be changed but they sure as hell advertised that way.
@@icaliver I think it was all pre-ordained, but ultimately we'll really see what happens in part 3... that will be where we get our truth from.
This scene is really made aeris death more sad 😢
"It's been fun"
Beautiful.
"It's been fun" is equivalent to her previous statement, "Every minute, every moment matters..."
Aerith didn't have an entirely easy life, but she never succumbed to self-pity.
-> A question for everyone:
What kind of feeling unites Cloud and Aerith ? friendship ? love ? something that transcends love ?
I'm asking because it's perhaps one of the most fascinating relationships I've seen in video games
Ambiguous. If don’t get her HA scene, Cloud tells her she’s family to him though
@@rieganel7781 he never said that though. You're probably referring to the fact that in Japanese he calls her "nakama" if you have low affection, which means "Comrade" or "companion". It can be used in friendships, as in romance as it's a term often used to describe someone you're living an adventure with. But he never tells her she's like family.
@@ChaMaia Nakama is a friend that's meant to be as close as family. It's a bit closer than friend but it's not romantic. Also Aerith gets sad when he calls her that versus his other response where she's much more happy.
@@rieganel7781Nakama can count as lover for me. I'm japanese interpreter(N2 and translate anime over 10 years) and it's can interpret, one group not family or friend.
@@yakumojoly It's not in this case. He calls her that when it's the low affection scene. It's why she gets upset. In the high affection scene, he doesn't use that language and she's happier
I think what make this moment tragic is that church is the place for marriage and they both stood on the aisle and only thing that Aerith can do is confess her love , speak it like an oath and….that’s the last thing in her last moment to do….my poor Aerith you lose so much which includes the time you have with your loved ones
Wait, was that the same church that Zack was sitting outside of? He was SO CLOSE to talking to Aerith again.
Yes.
I think lucrecia and hojo will play big role next that also time for vincent to be playable. As for zack.. and cloud, the world will be united
the never ending clerith vs cloti feud - square is honestly a genius, having us go crazy over it for 20+ years. ive been a long time clerith fan and was anti cloti when i was younger, but i'm trying to accept that both clerith and cloti are canon and that human emotions are complicated.
sigh, but i do wish we had clerith kissing scene although this right here is also incredibly touching T_T they're so cute together
Exactly. He clearly had feelings for both of them.
@@EvelynL.1112 they are obnoxious, one of the the most toxic fandoms I have ever seen
Did not realize there were two versions of this scene. Now everything is fair game again in ambiguity.
Two versions? What other version is there?
The other version has Cloud less enthusiastic when saying “next time” and the Japanese version basically friendzones her. I Tifa focused my play so I got that version and assumed that Tifa was canon.
I'm going to save her.
you got this, I believe in you
My favorite scene out of the entire game.
This is heartbreaking 😢
He likes both. It depends on us which girl he love more.
I love tham both so much. ❤
Gahhhh this version of Aerith’s Theme is just *chef’s kiss*. So good and so emotional 😭

I really don’t like this multiverse stuff they are doing on the Remake, but I got to admit this scene is amazing. The way Sephiroth enters the church while the music rises is amazing.
So Aerith just keeps dying in every timeline?
Man, Square Enix owes me some therapy bills.
The underlying msg behind the OGFF7 was always grief and acceptance
@@Centrioless that’s great😞👍💔
The key to everything is that materia. Sephiroth was there to stop her from giving that to Cloud, but he was too late.

the thing cloud didn't hesitate to hug aerith for even a second proves that he actually has feelings for her... but in the flower garden cloud hesitate some moment before hugging tifa.. its so confusing for us... they really build aerith +cloud with top notch effort then showed tifa +cloud is actually cannon.. this should be cleared in part 3.. i really want cloud ends up with aerith ..such a heartwarming sweet relation between them
What do you mean by «showed tifa and cloud as canon?» are you talking about the kiss ? The kiss is an optional scene that has 1/12 chance of appearing. And even if you still got it , cloud goes on a date with aerith regardless. Cloud didn’t even mention tifa on a date with aerith in chapter 14
If anything, the only canon part is this dream date. The kiss scene is player-optional.

ESTO MOMENRO ES DE LO MEJOR DE LA HISTORIA DE LOS VIDEOJUEGOS ❤
So, for starters:
3. The few scenes we get with Zack throughout the game are not one timeline, rather 2-4 timelines?:
The first Zack timeline (Z1, beagle stamp) is the one where he stumbles into Aerith's church after the plate falls (post-credit intermission scene.
I really like this explaination. I feel smarter now.😂
@DominatorMaharanth you may got it right in many points, Kitase might be sweating
@@DominatorMaharanth the next game is not going to be called "reunion" because the Crisis Core remake already used that

This are the things that emotionally breaks you. Now imagine being the person that this is happening to, no wonder cloud has mental issues so much loss. His mother his town his best friend ... Aerith never seen a protagonist endure so much.
and still he comes back stronger from it after the lifestream event.
Advent children Aerith.
Mmm. They pushed out of canon Maiden because it featured a scene that meant the same as this one. Aerith loves Cloud. This also kinda fits how Case of Lifestream describes Cloud from her PoV, "Lover". I still dont know how people still deny this.
@@slayer1156 Must be story what's differcult to know.
Meanwhile in our current real timeline:
Cloud: "Wait, no this isn't right... We've done this already!"
This is max level Aerith, probably bodied sephiroth and then joined cloud in that later boss fight
Bro why did they turn the remake into such confusing weird shit lol timelines where she is alive but dead in one then dead in the other... like bruh
From what the developers were saying, it's all one timeline 👌🏼I'm intrigued.
@@gatorarman12 thats how it should be. loss is the best emotion in the world. we all will experience it.
@@dennisdonders6202 I wouldn’t call it the best emotion in the world, but it absolutely central to the human experience. But I do agree that to not have loss/acceptance be a part of the finale, would take away from the original theme of FF7
