@Kayteah Again I am sorry you had to give up your beloved tank, I had to mega downsize after a house fire triggered health problems for me...
Luckily, I had a couple tanks survive the fire, but my big one was cracked. I set it up as a self-contained ecosystem, which meant it was the only one where all inhabitants survived my having covid.
I miss some of the creative aspects of maintenance and plant trimming, but now I have a self-sustaining tank that I can enjoy no matter how mobile I am not, and the fish don't suffer.
No clue if that's even an option for you and your specific needs or not. I just remember the overwhelming depression when my health challenges made me think I'd need to give up all my tanks, and I got home after 3 weeks and discovered I just needed to change my expectations.
      Wishing you the best!

@@Lazy_Fish_Keeper Good luck to you ! Speaking from experience it can be a total downer when you are first told you cannot do something you really love and is important in your life. Then you have a choice. You can sit and feel very sorry for yourself or take a deep breath and look around the world for something else you can love or another way to connect with what was so important to you.
I was involved with horses from the age of ten, showjumping, long-distance endurance races, dressage, and teaching. Then came the accident, and I was told I could never ride again. Now I coordinate the local horse rides for the disabled, welfare checks for the
reports of horse abuse, and when my body acts up I now make lace, and am learning to spin. That has introduced me to a whole new group of people.
Life does go on. As you said so wisely "I just needed to change my expectations." and perhaps just a bit of your self image.

Safest hard scape from nature is river pebbles. Some rocks affect the water chemistry so you have to be careful. The same with wood you can only use certain woods and you have to sterilise the wood also

Yo MD! I'm not even 10 minutes in and I am so happy to hear you say that
"...if you are on a budget you can get away with just the sand and root tabs..."
I honestly didn't have the slightest clue you could make a successful tank with all the extra nutrient layers! After years of watching you , I am going to go to a fish store to see what's available...
Thanks MD for your content. And I also wanted to let you know that I am loving the longer format of your videos lately. When they were shorter I honestly didn't get my fill, but with the 30 minutes, I can get really into it and relax. I save to watch them when I know I can enjoy the whole thing without interruption. And when I do get interrupted I always come back to finish them.
Thanks MD for years of amazing content.🙏🏽

Those “Rosetail Guppies” are very nice. They’re quite common in the hobby here in the US (in NYC at least) and have been for quite a while. They call them “Red-Tail Tuxedo Guppies” here. It looks like those were bred for longer dorsal fins, that’s the difference I see. Matt’s right, guppies are hampered by their tails so it’s best not to keep them with “bitey boys.” Also, some breeds like the solid black (“Black Velvet”) are more prone to eat their spawn than most other breeds.

The Butterfly cichlids are stunning once they mature especially in a dark tank.
Id recommend either a dark tank caused by heavy planting or even a blackwater, i prefered my old pair in a black water.
Depending on what way you'd want to go but I'd recommend either them with a massive shoal of lampeye killi fish for the big pop of blue and movement at the surface or personally I'd say a pair of the cichlids, a group of fresh water butterfly fish (very cool looking fish that hang at the surface and are like mini arowana. They swim slowly but can have a massive burst of speed plus hang directly below the surface). Then for the movement a shoal of Debauwi catfish, active shoaling handsome catfish Matt has a bunch in the 8ft. Plus a couple of Rope fish on the bottom and a shoal of upside down catfish (make sure its Synodontis nigriventris as these stay small and other species get quite big).
Would make a stunning black water setup plus very different from your normal style as it's weird fish not the usual "generic" pretty fish.
Only thing is you'll want a lid as Rope fish will slithet out and the butterfly fish are very good jumoersy, often jumping out the water for insects.
And the butterflyfish while they can be weaned onto floating pellets they do best if given some live insects in the mix.
But you could just get some crickets from the shops and put them kn a open topped or well vebtilated tub and they'll then last you a lot longer then uf yiu keep them in the tub. Plus if you squeeze and pop them in the water Timmy will love them too.
Thus would need to be one of the 4fts though!

Ah MD, you covered up the wood in the front. You said you were going to leave the front section of the wood showing!! I was really wanting to see that. 😢

Seems like way too much wood. It would have been so nice to see the fish swim through open area gaps that could have been left between the branches. I love your channel, but often get anxious watching more and more sticks and rocks added to where you know will get covered up by plants. Too hard to see the fish. I really believe that the decisions are yours. The reason the rainbow tank is so great is because you can see the fish swim. Well I shared my opinion. Now I'll watch you go buy the fish. Thanks for posting so frequently.

13:00 - I'm considering buying steel nuts (one without chrome or paint) and use them instead with a bit of foam. Chrome or brass could be problematic, but steel just rusts away and plants use the rust. Credit goes to certain Horác, who popularized the idea among Czech aquarium hobbyists, who call these nuts Horácomatka (I won't even try writing a pronunciation for that word).

Each time I try to plant higrophila pinnatifida, It stays for a while then start melting and die, while other plants are doing just fine. That happened in many aquariums , don't know what is its deal.
Have you ever faced something similar with this plant? If yes, how did you solve it

So glad it isn't just me!!!
I kept some looking great for 6 months in a Q/T, and then (after starting new growth) it all turned into fertilizer for my other plants.😏

MD I really think you should build a paladerium with thumbnail dart frogs. I think you will be delightfully surprised with this tank variation.
