Join us on South America’s best wildlife safari experience in the Pantanal the wildlife seekers paradise! This video is more of a wildlife documentary than a vlog, the Pantanal is known as the best Safari experience outside of Africa and it truly is a wildlife lovers heaven. We explore the world’s largest wetland and floodplain, where we encounter Giant Anteaters, Tapir, Capybara, Giant River Otters, Caiman, an Ocelot and countless bird species on jeep and boat safari’s.
We also snorkel one of the clearest rivers on earth in Bonito, viewing large schools of fish and visit South Americas largest sinkhole filled with nesting Red and Green Macaws. This episode was a huge undertaking for us and we are very proud of the outcome.

Refugio da Ilha Jeep Safari 1:52
We head from Campo Grande Airport and arrive at the beautiful Pousada Refugio da Ilha, along the way spotting a Giant Anteater and horses. After arriving we have a spectacular lunch followed by an afternoon/evening Jeep Safari. We spot a Tapir, Capybara and many bird species before enjoying a spectacular sunset on the world’s biggest flood plain.
Refugio da Ilha Boat Safari 8:57
We awaken to a beautiful morning where around the lodge we are visited by Giant River Otters, Caiman and Hyacinth Macaws. We head out onto the Rio Salobra by boat where we encounter many more bird species including a nesting tiger heron, we get stuck in the Hyacinths, spot a reticulated freshwater Stingray, and watch a troupe of Azara’s or Brown Capuchin monkeys.
Refugio da Ilha Jeep Safari 2 18:25
After another phenomenal lunch we are greeted by some Blue and Yellow Macaws before we head back out on Safari by Jeep. Another great birdwatching event with far too many birds to list here, many of which we list in the video. We spot fresh Jaguar prints and have yet another spectacular sunset, finishing with an amazing dinner at the lodge.
Refugio da Ilha Jeep Safari 3
This morning we are greeted at the lodge by a large family of Capybaras and Turquoise Fronted Parrots before heading out on our morning Jeep Safari. This time among the many bird species we come across we spot 2 Toco Toucans in the trees, a Burrowing Owl, a crab eating Fox and a Marsh Deer. We also spot an Amazon Kingfisher and a Red Footed Tortoise before spotting the smaller cousin of the Jaguar, the rare and elusive Ocelot. We see a Great Black Hawk searching for prey on the forest floor and a family of White Collared Peccaries before another amazing lunch.
Refugio da Ilha Boat Safari 2 29:58
For the afternoon we head back out onto the river. Our first spot is a troupe of Azaras Capuchin Monkeys, followed by a Black Collared Hawk and a Tiger Heron chick in its nest. We witness a spectacular sunset on the Solebra River and finish with a troupe of Howler Monkeys, the world’s loudest land animal. The following morning we say farewell to the beautiful Pousada Refugio da Ilha.
    Rio da Prata 35:01
From Rio da Prata Recanto Ecologico we head to Rio Olho d’Agua which has some of the clearest freshwater on earth. We begin our snorkeling drift tour spotting large schools of fish along the way, including Piraputanga, armoured catfish and the massive Dourado.
Buraco das Araras (Sinkhole of the Macaws) 41:56
On our way to Buraco das Araras we spot a Giant Anteater in the grasslands and an Agouti upon arrival. The sinkhole itself is the largest in South America and the amount of Red and Green Macaws flying and nesting among the cliffs was overwhelming. The perfect place for sunset.
    Bonito 48:41
We spend the night in the hub of Bonito where we are greeted the following morning by 2 Toco Toucans and 2 Red and Green Macaws. The perfect farewell from the Pantanal.
