“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
    - Aaron Siskind
This was written in my high school senior annual by a student who wanted to go into photography. It so reminded me of your talented, beautiful and heartfelt work. Thank you, Walter 🎉❤

You're welcome, Rita, and thank you! My photography Mentor at WRBL told me to photograph everything first, because if one waits, then it becomes common place and you don't 'see' it anymore, and will wish later that you shot it.

Paying attention, you always have. In part I guess the skill and heart of a photographer, but I know in addition you appreciate the times and how it all slips away much too quickly. At least you made it into a photo this time. Awww, Robert's dog and then little Robbie. I guess this is where Robert learned to be cautious on properties while Sidestepping! Ken's yawn, hahaha! 😊

Yes, I was very aware of precious time. I wished that I had a camera and a tape recorder when Ken and I were kids together. Those stories inspired Brian and me to value time with Ken, and Little George. Ha! Ha! Yes, apparently! That was the only time we had been kicked out of a place! I have several photos of Ken yawning, just because I pointed a camera at him. He did it tons of other times too, but I waited for him to get done.

Walter I have to tell you your videos are truly very special. On so many levels they effect me. You have caught the essence of the 80s and 90s like no one could ever do. I just appreciate them so much and wanted to thank you for this channel. It really really touches me emotionally especially seeing you and that special group of friends you photographed so much. Reminds me of all my friends from those days. The way you put this all together is brilliant. God bless you and yours.

Ha! Ha! Ha! We just saw this little driveway off the dirt road. It was exactly as it looks in the photograph. I took this picture, then some guy drives up in a pickup truck and asks us to leave that land. So we did. It was a disappointment.

I have never met your family but watching this gives me a feeling of homesickness.I would love to have met your mom and Little George.Where were you that you had to leave?Robert has always loved dogs! Is Lisa Roberts mom? Thanks for sharing a moment of nostalgia!

    • @WalterMallardPhotography
      @WalterMallardPhotography  9 місяців тому +1

I'm glad that it touches you, Anna. Yes, Mom and Little George were true Blessings. We miss them so much. We were on 'The First Dirt Road' where we used to hang out initially, before Robert was born. But then when he came along and was going out with us we just saw that little field road to the edge of the trees and stopped to stomp around. It was short lived! Some fellow in a pickup truck drove up and was not happy we were there and told us to leave. Yes, Robert loved Shadow so much. And that love of dogs and other animals stays with him. Lisa is his Mom. She is Brian's and my middle sister. You're welcome!

Ha! Ha! I've always love that shot. And the funny history connected to it. Yes, I love Coca Cola cold in a glass bottle. And I loved using them in model shoots. Yes, I love the old Coke machines. Other people have said that about Robert and Little George. I don't really notice it.

Standing by the moving train is what caught my attention about a resemblance. Your videos make me long for a visit with an old friend or acquaintance where we just talk. No bs like what happens these days. I am just short of sixty and men my age are still in that boasting can't quite be honest about life mode. My best conversations are with older men. @@WalterMallardPhotography

Walter you sure showed us some beautiful Georgia girls! But that Monica, she to me is a true Ga. Beauty. You outdid yourself with these pictures! Want to see a close up of mom and your sisters as as long As I have been fallowing you you all seem like extended family, if you consider a Ohio northerner family!😅

@@WalterMallardPhotography Maybe I am wrong about her name. It’s the girl , the blond girl who hung out with you all when she was maybe 14 or 15. You have a picture of her in this video but some of the first ones she was wanting to be a model? What happened to her? She was a beautiful Georgia girl, I am sure she still is beautiful. Walter I have no idea why your picture s capture our interest so but there is a quality of a lot of our lives I can see by the letters written to you, that feel that quality of taking us all way back somewhere in our lives and your pictures do that. They are just pictures but when you look at them they tell a story. In some of your first videos you took pictures of you all in the old car flying down old country roads, stopping and hanging around on the old bridge, when we were teen Agee’s we all did this, we weren’t city kids who hung out in a local ice cream shop, but jumped in a car and just had fun driving the roads and just happy to be alive. Now those days are many years behind but your pictures trigger a memory for us and that is why we come back to see more of them. And the music is good. Nice work Walter.

@@beckyhorton7974 Thank you, Becky. Yes, the girl you are referring to is Jennifer Slayton. Brian's and my next door neighbor. She is Johvan Slayton's little sister. My family; Brian and I have known her since she was born.
I had been photographing Ken, Brian, and Little George for several years; and then Jennifer came to hang out with us. I first photographed her and Johvan together in their field across from the house. Jennifer was sitting on their tractor. She was 15. I was just doing casual shots of her and Johvan, and then focused some on her.
I gave them copies of the prints, and her family loved them so much they boosted them from Johvan and Jennifer.
So, to make up for it to Jennifer, I began to do model shoots of her. I had just been doing casual 'historical' photography of Ken, Brian, Little George, and sometimes Johvan. So I began to practice actual model photography with Jennifer, which helped when not too long later I had my first paying model shoot with a girl that our Managing Editor/News Anchor at WRBL has set up. She won photo competition with the photographs that I made of her.
So then, I began to split my photography between 'Ken And His Gang' and Jennifer. I photographed Jennifer from age 15-18. She really grew as a model, and I progressed as a photographer. Both Jennifer and Johvan moved away from home when they turned 18. Jennifer left to another state and became a Deputy Sheriff. We are vaguely in contact, but I don't know exactly what she does now.
All of those years on those weekends had a profound affect on our whole family. I made 'Ken Tapes' and shot photographs. We had good times, and infuriating times. And we are so thankful for all of it today. I can see why you are touched by the photographs. It was a so important to us to have each other on those weekends. "Where are we going today, Ken?" "I don't know monkey!" Brian and I looked forward to those weekends. And I know that so did Ken and Little George.

@@WalterMallardPhotography Thank you Walter for catching me up on your models in your life story. They were and are all beautiful people who from the letters you get are very interesting to us as your pictures are. Will be looking forward to seeing more!
