  • How to Make a Neapolitan Cake
    Full Recipe: preppykitchen....
    Sometimes deciding on a flavor is hard, but dessert should be easy! So have a slice of this neapolitan cake and led all the day’s stress float away. I made a neapolitan cake a few years ago and it was totally different, click here to check it out. This time around I wanted to go a bit more traditional, so I whipped up a good old American buttercream divided it in three batches and flavored them with vanilla, strawberry jam, and cocoa powder. The cake layers are based on my favorite vanilla batter but are again divided and flavored with vanilla strawberry and chocolate.
    I actually filmed the decoration portion of this video a while ago, before I started making longer format tutorial vidoes. But I had to recreate this cake for a TV segment so I filmed a how to video for the channel! You'll have to excuse the no on camera bite as I needed to bring an uncut cake to set. Trust me it's delicious!
    One more thing! If you don't want to make so much buttercream then just skip the multi-colored petal decoration scheme.

    Tip=Cover your working area on the counter with newspaper so that when you're done, just throw away the newspaper and the counter will be clean and free of the flour and sugar

    can't ... stop ... watching .. your videos ...... literally found you 3 days ago and have already watched 15 + videos and made the vanilla cake! The most moist, delicious and non-boring vanilla cake i have ever made, I am making it for my 3 yo daughters birthday next weekend to thank you! Could you possibly make a carrot cake that you can stack like your 3 layer cakes? I really want something moist but stable ... :)

    We had an agreement on Neapolitan ice cream as kids. I ate the strawberry, my sister ate the chocolate and my brother ate the vanilla. Hadn't thought about that in years!

    The printed recipe doesn't mention the vanilla extract for the cake. Also would be helpful to put the amount of preserves in the printed recipe.

    Beautiful result! Surprised you didn’t mix the cake batter in one bowl then separate into equal thirds and add your flavorings. I might try mixing the cocoa powder pre-bloomed in a little cool coffee instead of milk. Would you think about using powdered freeze dried strawberries like your raspberry powder? Would the color be pinker without having to add artificial?

    I baked this cake for my sister’s Birthday last weekend and it was the talk of the night! As soon as I walked into the restaurant with this cake on hand sitting on it’s cake stand, it started to turn heads all over the place. People came by the table just to ask where we have bought the cake at and how much did it cost. They couldn’t believe me when I told them that I baked it in the morning. I told them I got the recipe for Preppy Kitchen on UA-cam. After we had dinner we cut the cake and everyone loved it! Everyone wanted seconds.

    Hi mr John. I really want to thank you lots and lots you are talented I learn from you lots of things on baking. Just one question pls. About the butter cream how can I make it thicker and heavy but not too much sweet cause every time I do the butter cream it come more soft and very sweet

    • @noaheverett7347
      @noaheverett7347 5 років тому

      If you want a thicker buttercream, you can use dry milk powder instead of extra powdered sugar, but experiment with small amounts first to see how well you like it and if you need to adjust the amount.

    • @Rue747
      @Rue747 5 років тому

      If you live in a hot climate buttercream frosting is a bit difficult to manage. Chill the mixture for maybe ten minutes before you pipe it. And American buttercream is really sweet. Try the Swiss buttercream recipe it's a bit more mellow.
