Full Recipe: preppykitchen.com/pumpkin-min...
These delicious, delightful, and moist pumpkin cakes are filled with all your favorite fall spices have a layer of cream cheese frosting inside, and just so happen to look like little pumpkins!
I thought these would be really cute as part of a centerpiece at dinner mixed in with real pumpkins and Autumn leaves. Dessert could be right in front of you without you having any idea!

It’s look great! Can you tell me where you got the pumpkin baking pan?
You got me at 'no fondant' !

Good one!!!!! Dang!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😊
I pay so much money at the Art Institute for pastry arts. And I can tell you I have so many instructors and no one like you. You are amazing. You really get the student attention. And I know you are not another UA-cam person who pretend to bake. You are a professional and talented. I suggest to viewers stay with you. Because you are teaching the right way. I am still learning from your videos. A baker never stop learning.
Hi John, I love this recipe however I wasn’t going to buy a bunch of baby pumpkins to make the stems. So there are a couple of methods to make the stem that I found work really GREAT 👍. The first method is, I used a piece of a large pretzel stick dipped in dark chocolate. The second thing I did was to take an actual stem and make a mold of it out of food-safe molding compound. Then once the mold was ready I either used moldering chocolate, fondant, gum paste or melted chocolate in the mold to make the stem. I even had a friend of mine roll out Tootsie rolls into the shape of a stem for a less expensive and less technical way of making a stem. With any of these methods you can make everything on the cake completely eatable. I hope my suggestions help. Thanks for the wonderful video. Take care, Dee😊
OMG brilliant!!! Thank you!!
Great ideas! A single cashew might work well as a stem too.
@@LaundryFaerie or a pecan 😭🥹
Me too! I thought Tootsie Rolls too!! You a Genius!!
Thank you so much

i love how your working space isn't perfectly clean and shows that chaos just happens while baking :D
I simply love this guy, who is so creative to watch and he makes all his baking videos look so easy to make step by step clear instructions. He always puts his smiley face on and I know when someone has talent or not. John has so much talent.
Thank you for not using fondant! I can't tell you how disappointing it is to see the thumbnail of a beautiful cake, click on it, and then find out that half of it was sculpted out of something that tastes like wax lips. Excellent recipe. I'm definitely going to try this.
Sarah Leonard goodness what kind of fondant do you use that tastes like wax lips. There are some out there that are very tasty & some not so tasty but I’ve never tasted wax lips before
I've only ever used it myself once, and that was whatever brand is sold in the cake decoration section of the Michael's craft store chain. I've eaten multiple professionally decorated cakes that were covered in fondant, including a very fancy wedding cake that looked like a peacock, and their fondant tasted the same (everyone at the table agreed that all of the fondant they had ever eaten tasted that way). What brands are tasty, so I can use them in the future? There are some things that just can't be made with modeling chocolate, which is my usual work-around.
I agree. Fondant tastes horrible. Even in cooking school, we would peel off the fondant before eating the cake. Never had a fondant that I like (store bought or homemade). But, I am super picky about my frostings... I don't eat American buttercream, only SMBC, IMBC, FBC.
Sarah, you should try the new Michaels fondants. They are so much better than before. They taste like marshmallow fondant !
So very apt and true! Lol! You can make marshmallow fondant tho. I hear that's pretty good.🎃
I wonder if for an edible stem if little churros would work. That’s what they remind me of
Yaz Valentin That’s a good idea. I don’t see me buying a huge amount of pumpkins just for the stems.
Amaya Strata i was thinking there no way I’m buying that many small pumpkins. Plus I don’t wanna have to take the stem off before devouring the cake
I think that the cereal, Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros, would make good stems
Zoe omg. That’s perfect!
Maybe form some rice crispy treats?
I love how much they look like actual pumpkins....amazing! 🤎🤎
Besides the pumpkin 🎃. He’s adorable 🥰🥰🥰
You know what I love? I love how he pours the flower directly out of the bag. When I see baking videos where they put baking powder and flour and everything in little bowls it just makes me anxious about clean up. Thank you for keeping it real. 👏👏👏
Flower?

@@KM-bn7dg wow, I got all that from one word? You must be desperate to justify your own stupidity if you allow a single word to turn into everything in your little diatribe there. Get back to me when you finish elementary school, sweetie.
I thought when you said flower you meant like the plant 🌹🌷💐 not like baking flour 😂
You could use tootsie rolls for the stem... just an idea. If you melt them a little, they are completely moldable and best of all, edible. Love the video!
And safer than marzipan! Catching the microwave on fire was not fun! This was in 2005 and I never did a spice cake after that. And when the firefighter took them out of the oven, he called them muffins. That's what made me finally break into tears.
Omg that’s a great idea
Thank you so much! I was wracking my brain trying to think of an edible stem.
I'm going to gold food spray a piece of licorice! 😁
I played a practical joke by molding tootsie rolls with the warmth of my hands into cat turd shapes, you can guess the rest...😂
I have been baking for the last 3-4 years. I have learned many things about cake making from your channel and still learn new ones every day ❤, thank you so much ! 😊
None of us are perfect. We are human with mistakes.. You show the videos of mixing all these things, I appreciate that 😊
I just love how you chuckle when you say "a drop or two" then pour a whole bunch in and the sugar and tea towel. It's just so real life, kinda chaotic and entertaining 😂 we are so used to seeing absolute perfection online its nice to see some realness and laugh a little!

Wiltons food coloring is the best...not the liquid stuff he used here which is weak............better as Wiltons paste...a small bit goes a long way as they are strong colours

its the great pumpkin Charlie Brown! Lol yes and a lot less work!!
That’s brilliant!
@@katc2345 ,my thoughts exactly
I think thats what I'm going to do
hmmmm that's a great idea....thinking the class I work with might love that one.
I first saw this video in 2018 and jumped on doing these -- I LOVE them! They are a lot of work but they make excellent dessert gifts for friends at Halloween or at Thanksgiving.
Just a few suggestions:
1. Actually, if you turn OFF the mixer and add the confectioner's sugar with a spatula, you avoid the whole "poof" effect entirely. Once it's incorporated enough so it won't kick-back, turn the mixer back on and proceed to blend well. I learned this trick last year and I love it!
2. I'm planning to make these again this year as Halloween gifts and have decided to do something a little different. I'm going to make them white pumpkins so I've decided to put cream cheese frosting all over, but thinly. Then I'll mold them until I like the shape. THEN -- this is the new part -- I plan to coat them with white chocolate ganache. That should give them a nice, finished look. And the white-chocolate ganache will add another layer of flavor.
3. I freeze them before I add the frosting. I do this because it makes slicing the end and frosting so much easier. They'll stay fresh for up to 2 weeks in the freezer. In fact, that's a trick I learned from professional bakers.
4. To make the stems, I take the extra cake that I trimmed away and mix it with a little left over frosting to make -- cake-pops! It is how you make cake-pops but it also works as a sculpt-able cake, too. Using that, you can sculpt very realistic edible stems. Mixing the cake and orange or white frosting gives them a very roughened look and darkens it a bit. Try it!
I also want to adapt this for Christmas to make little angels or snow men... ??
Great tips, thank you! 😊
You do painting, you taught Science AND you bake! Like, you're literally the best dude i have ever seen! ♥
This is the strangest energy I've ever found in a UA-cam video but I'm living for it

"It's done, but are we DONE done? NO." 😂
Oh my goodness these are the cutest things ever! I have a large 3D pumpkin pan, but I've never been able to make the cake look good with icing, so I'm going to try your technique! LOVE it!
So! So! So! Perfect for Fall/Halloween season! And let me tell you, me and my husband are Halloween Who**s! How did I miss this one after 3 years!!? Loved it! Thx for sharing.

Halloween Who*es omg that made me laugh so bad 🤣🤣🤣 nothing wrong with a Halloween who*e 🤣🤣🎃👻
You could use a “Churro” as a stem too! These are so cute!
Fabulous idea!
i love the idea of giving my wedding guests mini pumpkins for dessert instead of everyone getting a slice of cake
its cute and unique
Thou shalt hire a large troupe of pastry chefs to bake thy tiny cakes, yo.
Omg that’s a GREAT idea
I love that idea
A troupe of fairy godmothers
Amazing idea! That would be so cool and cute!
on behalf of all UK based watchers - THANK YOUUUUU for putting the gram and milliliter conversions!! Many, many times I've messed up a cake because I haven't got right the US cup conversions :D
It's my first time watching you and I LOVE THE WAY YOU TEACH! So clear and fun ❤️
Blessings from Asturias, Spain
Me too
I've never related more when he said the fondant wouldn't taste as good.
Citlalli Gonzalez Actually, there are some good fondant recipes, such as marshmallow fondant that just literally tastes like marshmallows and is pretty much marshmallow playdoh :3
@Akuma_FemaleDevil I literally hate marshmallows though. All they are are sticky flavorless globs of sugar that I can't swallow.
that’s okay, everyone likes their own things :3
It’s just a step up from the normal fondant in my opinion because it actually tastes sweet and compliments the cake
"My husband says, What's going on with your cake?
It's FINE! WALK AWAY!"

That made me laugh so hard.
This literally is story of my life 😂 😂

So labor intensive. I hope your guest appreciate you as much as I did while watching you create that little gem.
At the end of the video my boyfriend looked and was like "what?? How did he fill the pumpkin with cake?" 😂
Haha
Awww...
This is the first video of yours that I've watched. And it was sooo enjoyable! You made this look so doable! I think I'm gonna try this for Thanksgiving!!!!
Im glad he use butter cream for the decor and not extreme sugar paste/frosting. Soft cheese or butter cream can be sweet enough 👍 I like how he make beautiful cakes and do not forget the taste! Very cute pumpkins, but i would probably put eye decors on them in request from my kids
Thanks for this recipe and your technique. I actually skipped this video several times because I thought it was more decorating than a recipe. But your use of the bunts is clever and adaptable, so I'm glad I changed my mind about that.
"This would be a fun little project to do with kids."
Hahahahaha
I don’t get it? What’s the joke, I’m honestly confused by this comment 😂
@@taraji_b I think the commenter is an adult, so they are laughing at the fact that this bake is directly towards children. Hope this help.^^
@@taraji_b I laughed because I took it as kids are a little heavy handed, clumsy etc.(depending on the child) So them helping would be a nightmare if you actually want to serve beautiful pumpkins lol
Imagine the mess they’d make lol 😂
Right? LOL
Dude, I'm going to make these into Harry Potter sorting pumpkins by changing the color of the frosting on the inside!
Mercurial Pierrot this is such a cool idea for a themed party!!! Ahhhh love it!
What a clever idea.
That sound’s like a fun idea. My son is 29 now but when Harry Potter first came out he devoured those book’s. He is in the Navy and gets to come home for Thanksgiving. I want to make these for him. “Stealing your idea😉”
Genius idea!
Oh, cool! Sort of like the croquembouche sorting hat the NYT Cooking channel did?
Thank you, yesterday I made this cake and my whole family loved it, definitely one of the most delicious I've ever had.
I just discovered you! Love the cute little pumpkin cakes ! I want to try them now. Lol... love your attitude "Gotta live your life.." Lol
Wow, it looks like a real pumpkin! It would fool me. lol
Brilliant! I hate fondant. It looks nice but the taste is horrible. I am absolutely making these for the next family gathering
Edit: I made this last year for Thanksgiving. This morning my mom asked if I could make them again this year.
Agreed on the fondant. A woman I know made a Cinderella pillow covered in fondant and a "glass" slipper on top for a birthday cake. That pillow cake was the most beautiful cake I have ever seen - puffy creases and all. I find fondant has absolutely no endearing texture or flavor and wonder if it wasn't really meant to be eaten.
Did see a marshmallow fondant video here somewhere - maybe that would be better?
I love fondant - flavor and all 😅
I had this on in the back ground and when he said no fondant I actually I swerved to watch this video intently
@@ahaziahjoshua1397 yep, I was planning to move on to the next cuz it looked like you'd have to use fondant and then he said it. Hope he knows how valuable that comment is. LOL
Ok I really don’t like fondant AT ALL but if your have a cake that would look best if you used fondant you should use modelling chocolate instead. Works just like fondant and it tastes like white chocolate so it’s great don’t know why more people don’t use it
I love this! My mom used to make little pumpkins in our thanksgiving dinners, and this reminds me so much of her! I love the trick of making your own molding tool! Genius! Thank you for sharing!
I just love him!! His videos are so entertaining! He is a neat freak that always makes a mess but loves what he is doing!

You should make a video of yourself making one of these cakes, ya know.... to show how much better you can do?
Great job! Years ago, these are definitely something I would have done for fall or Thanksgiving. I used to make a large pumpkin cake similar to these baby ones by using two Bundt pans...my kids loved it.
I'm so emotional. I loved your macaron video and it helped me out a lot so of course I watched this video. Your vibes and energy are just amazing and I feel 100% happier watching your videos

I'm back almost a year later.. they're just so cute!! 🎃🍴
Oo marzipan would be delicious on the outside too & kids could paint them with as little or as much detail as the wanted. Thanks for the recipe!!!
I normally hate cupcakes and ‘cutesy’ food but these are beyond adorable, I love them. Can’t wait to try it. The way the chilled buttercream smooths down with wet fingers really looks like tough waxy pumpkin skin, fabulous. And because they’re fully encased you don’t get the dry outside you can so easily end up with when making cupcakes.

You are my favorite human on you tube! So much fun and so sweet❤️ Your family is so adorable!!!!
Could this work with 2 large bundt cake pans and make a large pumpkin? I ain't got time for all of this, I'm Hispanic, this would be way too many pumpkins for my family for Thanksgiving!
Bonny Martinez that sounds like a great idea also!! Thanks
Brilliant Bonny! Yes, you can make it huge and it would be so real looking! I would use the half (equator) part as the stopping point for a slice. Then once you have served the top portion, begin slicing the bottom half. You might really pack the center hole with filling, that way it will distribute the filling to more portions. Thanks for the one big cake idea!
Oh my goodness - I had the same idea!!! I was actually going to try this this weekend. Great "fall enthusiasts" minds must think alike! :)
It's the Great Pumpkin! Charlie Brown. : ) And yes, brilliant minds do think alike in the fall! ba ha ha!
I did this years ago for my daughter's birthday. I used chocolate on one half, and vanilla on the other and frosed a third of a twinkie green for the stem. It was cute and tasted great too.
I love everything in this video...the host, the cake, the mixer!
I love the mixer!
Omg that copper mixer is hella sexy!! I couldn’t take my eyes off of it!
WOW TUFS your talents. I’m an average home cook and feel like I could do this. Love your cookbook.❤❤❤❤❤
This recipe is amazing! I stumbled across it the other day and decided to make it for a friend's birthday. The recipe is simple and easy to follow and i'm happy it doesn't use fondant either because I've never really been a fan of it myself. The end product looks so good I can't wait to make it again!
I just made these pumpkins for Thanksgiving desert. THEY ARE AMAZING!!
And FUN to make too!!
Thanks!!👍🏻🎃👍🏻
Did you use real pumpkin stems? I was trying to think of a non fondant way to make edible stems....
Maybe a white chocolate mixed with a tad bit of milk chocolate, and soften then shape, using plastic wrap or parchment paper??? Just a thought... I have never done it before...
BRAVO!! What Beautiful and Gourmet Little Pumpkins. AMAZING!!💖💙💖⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love how they look ... but that icing is so thick and then there’s cream cheese frosting in the middle! I prefer more sponge cake and less frosting, so I’ll just admire his!😽
You can just carve the cake to get rid of crumbs , add a bit of oil to make it firmer and less crumbly and dry , and then cover it in a very thin layer of frosting .
My 4-year-old daughter - “Is that guy real? Let’s go to his house so he can make it for us, ok?”

Aww bless her.
