      Really depends, a VR headset is pretty expensive so you would have to be pretty into it for it to be worth it. I would say for most people it wouldn't be worth it tho. But if you feel like it's worth it, then it is for you

      I'm going to second Milkman. Totally worth the headset cost. It was literally the first game I purchased/downloaded after I got it connected to Steam. Got it in late April and already have well over 100 hours in the cockpit.

      Also, if you don't have the necessary DCS hardware (HOTAS, etc.) you're looking at just as much if not more cost for all of that hardware than you would be looking at for a VR headset. Especially if you wind up going with top of the line Virpil Hardware which will set you back about $1k. Quality rudder pedals can get up to about $500, and you're already well past a Valve Index cost.

    • @Jeppef39

      I see what you mean about the prices and that they can go up and above a vr headset, but if you're just starting out and not sure if you like the game you can get a thrustmaster beginner hotas for 50-60$ (Tflight hotas X) and you can also play with a controller if you just wanna try it out. I have a friend who plays it on controller.

    I also recommend yaw pedals with toe breaks for both games. VTOL offers a much better VR experience but DCS is as close to real life as yu could get, almost to a fault if you're just looking for a quick experience. Here is how I differentiate the two games mentally. When I play VTOL VR I get the feeling of an arcadey flight game where you can just do cool shit with your friends have a bit of fun blowing shit up while having laughs while keeping it semi realistic and having the missions relatively small. When I play DCS I get the feeling of "Oh shit, that's why real fighter pilots need hundreds of flight hours and years of classroom and out of classroom instruction to even be considered combat effective.". That is also the reason why most western air forces would rather loose their planes and equipment than their pilots because they judge their pilots to be more valuable than the planes they fly.

      Check out the latest update so. They added electronic warfare and full radar cross section simulation which even DCS doesn't have yet. Vtol vr is the most immersive flight sim I've ever played. And I've been playing them for 25 years at least. Sure the graphics aren't DCS or flight sim 2020, but that doesn't matter. I also like requesting takeoff and landing clearance by literally asking and ATC responding. In a 2.8gig sim. Literally thr coolest shit ever lol. Worth the 299 price of a quest 2 all day.

    • @SA80TAGE
      @SA80TAGE 9 місяців тому +2

      you can do that in DCS multiplayer too (request clearances)... some servers have players acting as AWACS directing everyone else on their team by only playing on the map screen and making radio callouts. I remember watching a DCS player who had no idea he had merged until the AWACS player called it out over radio lol, he ended up surviving and getting the kill iirc too because of it.

    So for the bombing example you are showing DCS is very realistic and Vtol is more of a game. I don't play either game, but I plan to. My perspective, after studying on both platforms. DCS is a simulator / Game, and VTOL is a game. In my case, I want the sim part I want to have to work to get good. If I wanted a game only War Thunder would be an option. VTOL and War Thunder is a better comparison IMHO. as they are in the same class.

    • @Jeppef39
      @Jeppef39  4 місяці тому

      I wouldn't really say vtol and War Thunder are in the same class as war thunder is a pure game while vtol is more of a simulator light, it's a very good entrance point into the world of simulators if you come from something like war thunder. Sure, it's not as in depth as DCS but still has some of those elements

  • @kugelblitzkrieg
    @kugelblitzkrieg 7 місяців тому +2

    VTOL VR imo is for people who want the feeling of being a fighter pilot without the immense amount of knowledge required to actually fly them. The DLC is also reasonably priced so people don’t need to break the bank for a new plane or helicopter. It’s good for people who want a more casual approach to air combat without it being Ace Combat levels of goofy (no shade to Ace Combat tho). It’s also a good gateway drug into more complex aviation games.
    DCS is for people who really like military aviation, and often have setups (and PCs) specifically built for it. It’s built to be as true to life as possible, to where you need to actually put lots of time and effort into learning how to properly fly the aircraft. The fact it is so complex is also why new aircraft modules are upwards of $100 EACH, making them prohibitively expensive for some and primarily aimed at serious aircraft enthusiasts.
    That’s the difference in my opinion. VTOL is for new aviation enthusiasts or casual gaming, and DCS is for realism.

    • @Jeppef39
      @Jeppef39  7 місяців тому +1

      100% agree with you, It's nice having a game where you can take your non aviation friends in for some fun time flying while not having them completely clueless about what is happening, while still not being as you said Ace combat or War Thunder

      As a 50 year old with decades of experience in the flight sim genre and hundreds of dollars of hotas and flight sim gear, I disagree. VTOL is hands down the better VR experience and in several important way, it’s more realistic and immersive than DCS. The fact that I works immediately with little to no setup and has FULL voice commands for wingmen and ATC right out of the box make it a fantastic overall experience. in DCS world some key thing is always broken and you spend more time setting up and tweaking than you will doing missions. Heaven forbid you try single player only to find the AI is worse than in VTOL.

    • @Jeppef39
      @Jeppef39  8 місяців тому

      Unfortunately yes, while you do have to spend some money to enjoy it, 1k is very much an overstatement. For vtol you can get a quest 2 for about 400$, not sure how much the 3 goes for but thats less than half, and for DCS if you're into the realistic planes a 50$ T-flight would do, that's how i started and played my first 600 or so hours on and it was great, I loved it! If you would like to go further with dcs however you could eventually get up to 1k, but this would still take awhile if you don't just go for the best gear straight away.

    I disagree. For me personally, the 300 bucks for my quest 2 would have been absolutely worth it, even if i could only use it for VTOL.
    Multiple DLCs, sets of rudder pedals and a 500€ quest 3 later, I still consider it worth it. The community greatly enhances the game with the Multiplayer, custom missions, liveries, mods and sub communities that focus on stuff like pvp, milsim or aerial acrobatics.
