HEy, it's so simple to have a real working solution: 1. Virtual Desktop: You can setup a color that is used for "Green Screening". F.E. define a rare Color as Alpha Color . 2. in AAO: Create an In-Game Panel (WEB FIP) with that color. place it somehere in the plane below the Windows where your real Hardware is . Using Virtual Deskopt: Now you see the passthrough inside the cockpit allways at the same place inside the VR game.
That’s great! I’ll look into that more. I think I actually tried it and it was weird but cool, but I turned it off because I didn’t have time to mess with it. But I spent all of 5 minutes with that on. It was cool seeing both.
@@theVRpilot yeah, turning it just "on" with standard color let all the color occurancies in the sim be transparent. i think you need to define a rare color (and almost no range) . and then place a solid color bar (as a web-fip) into the sim.
@@travisashby not yet... there are tutorials for creating web FIPs with behringer X-Touch Mini and AAO .. just combine all informations. Maybe its a good idea for @theVRPilot to be the first :-)
It's cool that you go the extra mile(s) beyond ATC and also get into flying. I bet it helps with your awareness as an ATC - even if it's sim experience. Thanks for sharing this info for simmers and keeping the skies safe in real life
Just found your channel and really like it. Whether it be cost or time constraints a lot of people don't have the opportunity to get certified as a pilot. Sims have come so far they're a great way to enjoy flying and fit it into the rest of your life. Keep up the great work!
Yup! Now while in VR, I have found that STRAWS are amazing lol, even in can of beer. Can over glass so you don't knock it over and have broken glass and beer everywhere lol.
For rolling char... In your pit where you place your chair, put like 2 long screws into the base on both sides of each wheel, depending on how your wheels are it might take 4 screws each wheel on all 4 sides of each wheel. When you play just drop your chair with the wheels being placed in the center of the screws you put in... now the chair will NOT roll around and when you want to use it elsewhere, just simply pick it up and replace it on the floor and it rolls again. And it takes care of the next thing too... consistency in the placement of the chair to be the same everytime... the "locking screws" that keep it from rolling... they will NEVER move so when you lock the chair from rolling around... it wont roll around IN THE SAME POSITION/LOCATION every single time.
if you have a 3D printer which you should, because who can live without one :D just Print some Office chair wheel chock. i used that before i build my sim rig. and it works perfectly!
I just mount every to the arms of my chair and then use rough and smooth Velcro on buttons so i can feel my way round then. Works for me, never need to take the headset off.
Another great accessory for flight siming to replace most if not all of your keyboard is the Razer Tartarus V2. It's design ensures you can find the key you want just by feel. It takes up very little room in your setup. Check it out, you'll never go back to using a keyboard in a VR flight sim.
Muscle memory for sure. Ive played a couple of thousand hours of Elite: Dangerous with hotas and pedals. I used a couple of Ikea svartasen laptop stands, one with just the throttle, instead of the tabletop, and the other with the top, the stick velcroed on, space for mousing and a 3d printed clamp on stand for one of my vive controllers so it was always within reach. Between the two stands i had a board which attached with more velcro, onto which a slim keyboard was attached using 3d printed clips. I got one of those floor protectors (probably an Ikea Kolon, saw it, offered and got it for a buck when i was picking some chairs from after an auction, they were clearing out an office), basically a large plastic mat, and i put velcro on it too to hold the pedals as well as locking the positions of the laptop stands so the stuff wouldnt move about and be easy to set back up when i had to move the setup to the side. I made some wheel blocker things and attached that to the floor protection, that way the office chair would also go back in the same place every time and not roll when i pushed against the pedals. Eventually i switched from a regular office chair to the passenger seat ripped out of a friends Golf before he sent it to the scrapyard, put bass shakers in it and powered them by making an adapter to run them instead of my subwoofer (I mostly VR with headphones), was really happy with the setup.
If you are a professional pilot and still an FO , I fairly understand the reason behind to seat in the right hand seats, for many reasons actually: to practice procedures, muscle memory ,proficiency checks , etc...
@@theVRpilot yes 😄 exactly , unless It's time for captain upgrade, then makes sense to move to captain side, to really finally practice muscle memory on the left hand side when you really need to succeed in training and line training, checks .. nice video by the way, thanks so much for sharing! 😊
It is so refreshing to watch this video. I have been working on my Flight Sim - VR Set Up in my personal office for a few years now, and I have gone through all of these hurdles and wanting to tear my hair off. I thought it was just me and I was just overreacting, so it make me feel so much better to know that even the pros out there are also going through the same hurdles. It is just what it is! We are on the edge of VR Flight Simming, so it is all about learning how to conquer this experience. I just bought the Prime Crystal Light VR Headset, and your videos really helped me make the final decision. I hoped I could ask you, would you think you'd have the ability to fit an over the ear headset on you once you have the Prime on? I am curious. Thank you sir!
Awesome! Thanks! New video is up on MSFS 2024! Top 10 VR Questions Answered for MSFS 2024! - Is Virtual Reality Supported YES! ua-cam.com/video/5y3AWdKcdS4/v-deo.html
This was really good and timely for me. I’m relatively new to all this. I did buy the X-Touch Mini for added and VR-viewable solution. I have my HOTAS mounted on my rolling office chair using monitor arms and Velcro. Two words - gaffers tape ! It works. Also holds the rudder pedals in place. I’m going to try a kneeboard with a trackball mouse Velcro’ed and see how that goes. In DCS, there’s a setting for placing the mouse cursor where you are looking in VR, so that should help. See ya on Discord.
@@theVRpilot I’m so new to VR, I don’t have enough in it to make an informed response. Playing games like Alyx is awesome. I used to fly for real back in my day (Senaca III) and the lack of tactile feedback is unnatural. We didn’t have EFIS back then and airspace had weird names like ARSA ! I see things like InfuseVR and see a bright future.
I built myself a throttle quadrant with VR in mind and made it so that I can easily handle it blind, by the way the knobs are aligned. I can fully relate to the ‘non rolling chair’ tip. 😅
Thanks for the comment about flying mostly at night and SR/SS which I used to do IRL. I think I'll move that way (XP11/12) Just got Quest 3 using link cable and XP11 won't let me check VR box. Ancient Rift worked no problem-except too blurry! Keep on keeping pilots safe and us simmers informed!
Thank you for answering this ! Now based on your response I have a follow-up : if the pass-through is not being used, does that mean that a Quest 3 is really not a VR headset I should buy, because I am goin to be paying for cameras and a whole lot of hardware that is of no use to me (I only intend to use the headset for FS2024, at least that is the main purpose). What I mean is, if there is another headset that uses the same $$$ and only invests that into functionality that I will actually use and benefit from, would that be the wiser choice ? And if so, what headset would that be ?
Hey, so to clarify a few things... The cameras on the Q3 serve multiple roles, they track your hand controllers, track you location in space, and can also be used as a pass through method with some software. While it isn't native, and requires some tweaking it is a neat and good solution. Look up A10 Warthog project for a recent and good example. Additionally with VR headsets they need to know where they are reference your room to allow your head to move in the cockpit, this happens 2 ways. Either you have inside out tracking or external tracking. Q3 has inside out tracking, meaning you aren't over paying. In fact, Meta is likely subsidizing part of the cost of the tech to bring us a a great headset. Other headsets have no cameras, but sensors that get tracked by base stations that you need to set up separately. Now to answer the question is there a better headset for the price? Not really. Is it the best headset for flight simulation specifically? I would say not really lol. it is good, but there are latency issues and compression issues of the visual image since you will need to run on wifi 5 for the best experience. So what would I recommended? the Pimax Crystal Light is a fan favorite of many mainlly because it has a display port cable and does not have batteries and it has a much higher resolution increasing the clarity and immersion but you also have to consider the performance of your PC. Check out my video on the PCL. Hope that helps! ua-cam.com/video/aybrf39y4-8/v-deo.html
Thank you Jose for another great video! Nice to see someone that has all the toys realize that not all of us can afford the "state of the art" stuff. Your presentation, explanations and suggestions are spot on and much appreciated. Keep making these videos!
Glad you enjoyed it! I want other people to enjoy the hobby as much as I do and I know at times it can feel overwhelming between hardware and software settings. I "try" to keep things simple as simplicity is the key for VR simmers to enjoy the hobby. I have had days where its all complex, nothing is working right and I down right get frustrated as I simply want to fly. I want to encourage folks and share tips when I see often the same issue or question comes up so they too can enjoy the experience more. Thanks for the feedback!
I've chopped out the underside of most of my VR headset's facial interfaces (like the Quest Pro comes stock) so I can look under the VR at my SimPit and see my switches and buttons. It's a poor man's passthrough and very similar to how NVGs are used in RL. With Falcon BMS I can use it to see my second monitor's MFD displays behind my TM MFDs for a little more clarity for TGP work. The light bleed/stability loss isn't bad for flight sims.
Great tip! I could see that working. I have heard that folks take the Quest 3 and upgrade to the Halo Style head strap, remove the face insert and the result is similar to what you described.
I could have sworn I have recently seen QR codes on controls so they track better in Quest. This would be cool to allow taking hands off Yoke and flip controls with hands.
Muscle memory, basically. Even if we had mixed reality capability to see the simpit when looking down... I don't think I'd want to. I mean, my simpit is pretty cool, but it doesn't look anything like a Viggen or Anton. I want the authentic cockpit in VR.
So true, I have thought of that. Even if I can see my sim pit, if it looks like a C172 but I am in an F-16 its going to break immersion lol. I prefer to focus on muscle memory and having a proper fixed simpit. It doesn't have to be big or fancy, just fixed.
Awesome! Check out my current rig that I use, it really helps with immersion I think. ITs a DIY $200 wood frame. ua-cam.com/video/0pawV3DBW-g/v-deo.html
Excellent topic man! It's been the only thing holding me back from going to VR. I LOVE the silicone dots comment. I have a computer that can support VR, but I've always have the same question, how do I "see" the outside world? A lot of solutions are on the way, but I'm going to hold off perhaps another year or two. Thanks for posting this. I really appreciate it!
Little late to the party here but i tried to play with hand portals (Chroma Track Overlay from a Japanese developer) in the Quest 3 which worked best for me. I am building an A320 cockpit and the buttons there are to small to just go by muscle memory. So having mixed reality solves this. Unfortunatley my main VR headset (Pimax Crystal) is still waiting for the release of the MR faceplate....
Very cool. Yeah there’s a lot of tinkering when you start making custom sim pits but it is half the fun. Hopefully pimax irons out those issues and get the Mr faceplate soon!
@@theVRpilot Side note: It seems that the basic functionality of the hand portals are also availabile directly in Virtual Desktop as I have found out: In the Virtual Dekstop settings under Streaming -> VR Passthrough you have to activate "Hands" and also make sure, to have hand tracking activated (under Input settings category). I sometimes have issues because the hands are also recognized as controllers and I tend to trigger actions I did not intend... I have to figure this out at some point.

InfuseVR by YawVR should be coming out pretty soon which will let you let you bring fully functional 3D models of your peripherals into your vr cockpit, place them wherever you want, and scale them to whatever size you want. I think it's supposed to be compatible with any vr game.... but def don't quote me on that cause I could be wrong. I think it will only work for Quest 2, 3, and Pro, Pico, and possibly Pimax Crystal at launch.... at least to see your hands.... hmm that would be a good question for me to ask them. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to bring a peripheral into a game while using a G2 or something and just not be able to see your hands... it could still help out I would think. Anyway, I don't think every peripheral will be available at launch but they said the list will keep growing.
Awesome video 👍thx Jose. Sim pit…I didn’t knew this word before. I totally agree with you. But I am using a rolling gaming chair but with stop-wheels. So everytime when I am on ground, it’s in a stop position. I like your sponsor „coffee“ 😂I have the same (but I will sent a link to your video on Starbucks…maybe you can make a deal). I highly recommend a motion sim rig for you. This is an ultimate VR flight experience 🤩✈️ happy flight and greets from EDDM
I tried to use vr on vatsim and manage a complicated flight deck a few years back. What a waste. I now use 3x32" lg nano monitors in 1440p and 2x21" asus touchscreens with Air Manager/knobster. Great immersion without vr controller hastles etc. 3 x monitors covers everything you can see out the windscreen anyways. VR is still very cool for helos and heavy VMC. Shooting up tanks on DCS, etc. The other option is to purchase a vr cockpit for 50-100k like the air force Texan trainer in video. There is also a 172 vr cockpit, but honestly, what happens when you outgrow aircraft or want a type rating in various aircraft? VR is not the answer for real world training unless you can afford vr immersion cockpit and vr pass-thru. No offense.
I have a lot of WinWin kit here , I don't use the face gasket on my Quest3, so I get a good peek gap below. I trimmed the lower section of my Pico4 and Q2 just the same for the same reason.
Thanks for the video and information. I have been doing this kind of method with my SIM racing games for quite a while. I know where everything is around me while being in my VR. headset Most the time it isasy because of just using the steering wheel and pedals. I don't do Flight SIM games even though I do have the Microsoft Flight Simulator installed on my gaming computer. I know very little about doing airplane control operations even though I was a "crew chief" on a real C-130 4 engine turbo prop aircraft in the Air Force during the Viet Nam years. Got to fly in the plane where ever the went and helped maintain and pre flight the aircraft before the crew came out to fly. Maybe someday I will start learning how to use MSFS game and flying different planes. Be neat if I could find a C-130 aircraft that works in the game and learn to fly it. I did sit in the co-pilots seat with a pilot when he was doing some testing after repairs. Again, thanks for the video. take care.
I would add : keep flying the same 2 or 3 crafts. It takes time to master an aircraft like a pro. Set some failiures (easy on Xplane) and fly IFR . You will be so familiar with your controlers and button box you wont have to look for them.
Solid advice! I fly an F-16, C414, B737 and C172. 4, all different, but I have spent so much time in them across the years and different sims that I love.
Dwamn! Is that a Thrustmaster Cougar throttle I see on your left? Mine is still going strong and use it every day but yours look like brand new. Good to see.
@@theVRpilot Yup. Never saw that one coming. Thanks for the headsup. I'm still using my cougar to this day, even though I have repaired a number of times it is still going like new. I have the UberNxt mod on the Joystick from all those years. I'm not letting it go. Thx for replying.
Loved this video! Interestingly enough, because I've been so into VR and DCS in particular with its clickable cockpits, one feature of *that* game is to assign right and left mouse buttons to some other buttons, on some other device. I gave up one of the hat switches on my HOTAS for that functionality. Now, I just look with my headset crosshairs at the cockpit controls I want to manipulate, and use that hat. It works in every aircraft, I don't have to switch HOTAS controls for different planes, and my controls are consistent for everything. It's not entirely true-to-life to have your landing gear switch be an F-16 hat control, but it sure is handy! Speaking of the F-16 controller, I noticed in your video that you're using the old Thrustmaster Cougar throttle. What did you have to do to get it working independently of the original joystick? Mine required a hacksaw and hot glue to change a few things. ;)
Thanks for sharing that tip! Correct I am using the older Cougar Throttle. So what you don't see is that the original joystick is behind the monitor! LOL. I simply never used it. So I had Honeycomb Yoke, A10 Joystick to the right, and that Cougar Joystick behind the monitor just hanging out lol. But I enjoyed having both A-10 and F-16 throttle available, and then unfortunately my A-10 Throttle died over night. I think it can still be fixed as Thrustmaster quoted me $75 for the parts. I'll give that a shot soon.
@@theVRpilot hah! I forgot to add that I bought a Leo Bodnar joystick controller board for my throttle body. It handily had 3 more axis controls left after the throttle and all the switches in the throttle handle, so I hooked up an Ethernet port and built some rudder pedals with toe brakes! It was a bit of a project, and it took... I think 3 months to complete. If I were going to do it all again though, I'd just plunk down $700 for the Thrustmaster pendular rudder pedals like everyone else does though.
There's a guy on the DCS forums (input devices -> thrustmaster), rel4y who built a USB mod for the TM Cougar Throttle that uses a cheap microcontroller to act as a proper USB interface so you can use the throttle as a standalone USB device (he also makes hall effect sensor mods for the main throttle axis, which require the USB mod to function). Unfortunately I recently managed to damage the USB port on my modded cougar throttle and I am waiting to hear back from rel4y about getting a replacement but he's been a bit quiet.
any idea on how to get a second person into the cockpit with you, in VR, possibly in different physical location? like a buddy, or flight instructor? seeing the same thing as you.
That’s a great question that u see often. At this point the only way I know how isn’t technically supported and simply requires a second PC with a second VR headset. DCS has multi cockpit support, and VTOL
@@gjsxnobody7534 I think so, but it’s not perfect just yet. Start here and maybe check UA-cam for some examples. @thevrpilot I'm into all things flightsims. Lol ie DCS, msgs, x plane, p3d etc. but Dcs is my main SIM to play. I have a lot of accessories like yourself, warthog hotas, cougar mfds etc. I'm about to buy a winwing topgun mips package for around $900.00. Do you own this package? If so can you tell me how well it works with DCS, pros/cons and what warranty does it come with? I heard a lot of concerning reviews so I'm trying to get real players reviews before I drop $900 plus another $387 on control panel accessories for my f18c. Thanks ahead of time.
Hey, sorry for the late response. No I do not, but I have a few friends that have it and are pretty happy with it. I think WinWing Is moving up and working hard to provide great quality and value for their customers. Let me know, what did you decide on?
I appreciate the feedback! I spent some time thinking about the video title, to try to relay the point of my video best but I did not mean to cause confusion. I am not familiar with what you are talking about but will look it up. I Chroma through VD something you have used or are trying to use?
@theVRpilot Virtual desktop beta has new choma feature that allows steam vr overlay of actual controller sets. I have not played with it too much other than just beat saber for blocks coming through my room.
Sorry brother, I have other cool videos up on my hands on experience with MSFS 2024! Hope you found what you need. I haven't done passthrough yet, but it is on my list.
I’m good with your suggestions but when it comes to flying with ATC where I cant remember all of the instructions (COM radio, etc) I need to write these things down. In VR I dont want to lift my headset much if at all. I am trying out voice attack now but it doesn’t always work and the ATC controller gets impatient. I just wish I had s good solution for VR.
Great point, some folks have suggested using a Wacom tablet. I have one in my shopping cart and I’m considering checking that out as an alternative but it’s not a native feature unfortunately and might require some tweaking.
I've been looking to get a trackball. However, I've never used one before. Would would you recommend, the ball controlled by your thumb or one of the ones with it in the middle? I feel like maybe in the middle I would like but then the buttons are spread on eother side.
Great Question! I had also never used one before. This might come down to personal preference but I will give you my feedback as I have owned both. I first purchased the model with the Trackball on the left side, amzn.to/46W4Gx6, controlled by the thumb in February of 21. I really enjoyed it, I think I dropped it and broke it (BEFORE VELCRO haha) and then purchased one that had higher reviews and I thought I would like it more... amzn.to/40ohBFy with the ball in the middle. Annnnd while I still have it to this day, I REALLY dont like it lol. But it isnt critical. I prefer the thumb control mouse and the way the scroll wheel was as it was traditional. The ball in the middle setup has a scroll wheel that surrounds the ball, its meh. I think this really might be a personal preference thing. Try to check a local store, or order both and return one. Or try one lol. Idk. I should just buy the Elecom model as my hand felt more natural using it. Another thing to consider is this. I had it quite LOW, to my right, by my waist. The model with the track ball in the middle did work better as I remember my hand felt funky trying to grip the unit properly. But if it is going to be set above your waist, I think the unit with the ball on the left, and standard scroll wheel and extra buttons is ideal! I hope that was as clear as mud and it helps! lol lmk what you decide and how it goes for you. I am curious. Either way, this will be better than a standard mouse! - Jose
@theVRpilot thanks for the insight. I didn't realize the middle ball didn't have traditional scrolling. That alone makes me lean towards the thumb control. Edit: just checked and this is one of the ones I saved in my amazon cart.
Same concept, the more complex your gear it works better I think. Your muscle memory is key to this. If you have something like that I would hope you have a dedicated sim pit. The dedicated sim pit allows your chair and G1000 setup to be in the same place at all times, so your muscle memory in VR will be greatly improved. I have two videos coming out with in the next few weeks, one will be a tour of my SimPit and I will discuss how I’m able to have an improved VR experienced because of it due to increased muscle memory performance, amongst showing all the hardware on it. I will then have a video tutorial on how to build the exact same Simpit from scratch for under $200. I’m finishing the PDF instructions now and editing the video. But again, you want to have your chair, and hardware be in the same place allowing for your muscle memory to be accurate as you reach out in VR time and time again. Cheers Jose
@@theVRpilotthanks - I'm new to it all but just learning as much as I can. Love the idea of VR for the immersion, but also want as much "hardware" to make the sim as real as possible. Does the VR get programmed where objects are? Or do you just need to place them in the simpit as close to reality as possible, then "feel" your way to them until muscle memory takes over? And I presume what you are clicking on the hardware is updating in the software/VR? (I've never used VR before hehe) but then again, if using really realistic hardware like those G1000 screens, there's no point having the VR! tricky.
VR Pilot sir, question. I have an older gaming pc, wont do VR, I want a new pc machine but, an Xbox x is a cheaper solution for me. However, those cheap VR Game stores that let you experience aliens and shooting stuff..will that tell me if VR will make me nausiated? Or do I need to fly in MFS2020/2024 to experience nausia from vr?
@@stevejones924 VR is a different experience for everyone. In short try to borrow someone’s VR headset. Also consider picking up a used Quest 2 for $150 and use that until you get your “VR legs”. Test out Vr and if it’s for you sell it and upgrade.
I finally got to try flying flight sim on the Xbox with my quest 3 and it just pretty much made it like playing on a big screen except it would not work with my turtle beach flight quadrant. Just curious if you have tried that combination with ms fsL
I was learning about that recently and will talk about that soon. This is a simpler start for beginners but yes, thats looking to be a good alternative .
What is the throttle you're using just behind the Warthog throttle? I've had the Warthog joystick and MFG Crosswind ruddar pedals for years but never got around to getting a good throttle since becoming sidetracked with my sim racing hobby. Would love to find one thats good value for money and get back into flight sims.
Hey! So believe it or not that is a Thrust-master Cougar Hotas, so it’s an OG F-16 metal throttle, it actually has to connect to the joystick (that’s behind the monitor out of sight) via serial cable, and the joystick connects via USB to the PC. I would suggest take a look at WinWings new products and Thrustmaster. Also consider your favorite fighter jet and maybe get a HOTAS that closer resembles that. You can obviously fly everything, but if you plane to rock the F16 the most, grab something that matches (if it fits your budget). I’d love to get my hands on the newer Thrustmaster Throttle and Winwing and do reviews on them.
@@theVRpilotI modded my hotas cougar throttle to be stand-alone by fitting a Leo Bodnar BU0836X card inside it. I also modded the handle to be vertical so I can use it with jet fighters plus also as a helicopter collective. Works great!
VR for gamers is fine. Helos, DCS, vmc, etc. If you want to be rw pilot, then the purpose of a flight sim is procedure, flow, comms, ifr charts, and the exact location of knobs, switches etc. Is there a computer keyboard in a 172 or da42? Make sure you understand your goals in your flight sim first, before buying expensive immersion hardware. Developing muscle memory to a keyboard makes no sense for rw pilot wannabe's.
So, I guess you’re right. I could have been more clear who my audience is for but I think you figured it out. I think we will have decent affordable native mixed reality soon.
Is it possible to hold a switch in VR (using mouse) while looking away? In Flight Sim, on the Saab, the start switch is spring loaded so I have to keep holding it while looking at the instruments during startup. The problem is that as soon as I look away, I loose the start switch as my mouse cursor automatically goes back into my field of view. How to keep holding the switch while looking at other things?
Hmm, yeah I think it works but also your right I think as you look away it might disconnect. I can’t remember now and have to try it lol. One option would be is to maybe set that specific switch to an actual binding on a button if you can.
I kind of feel you've over complicated this. All you need is a small nose gap in your headset, in a dim room there's no light bleed, and you can see all you need too.
Thanks for the feedback! It's possible I might have, lol. Your solution of a nose gap is great and works for many. I didn't mention it because I do not like seeing the outside world while I am in VR and I suspect others are in the same boat. This video came idea/response comes from my MSFS VR Facebook group of 8,700..... I can not begin to say how many times folks (likely new to VR Flight Sim ) have asked, I don't know how to see my mouse, or "I am struggling finding my keyboard in VR", "cant use my yoke while flying because I cant see it". ...and I reply each time, "Well guys its all about muscle memory, like playing a musical instrument, riding a bike, or entering your pin. etc etc etc etc " This video was a slightly longer (I tried to make it short lol) explanation also covering a few other things and some tips to really help those entering the world of VR flight simulation or racing. The end goal would be they no longer need tape or having to mark anything but they simply now can trust their muscle memory, maybe with a bit of combined nose gap as you mentioned! Complication is the death of new VR simmers and simplicity is the key for enjoyment and growing our hobby, so you are correct that I might have expanded a bit lol. Again, thanks for your feedback and tip!
I bought a Meta-Oculus Rift S one year before they dropped their support of this product. The Rift S worked well until I updated my computer. Now two years later and after a year of Meta stupid suggestions for getting my Rift S working again, it's still not working. I have a $400 paper weight that Meta refuses to fix even though they say my new computer should not be a problem. I cannot recommend buying any Meta products due to their lack of customer service and having a chance of the same dropping of older products support. Meta basically has no customer service and only lip service!
Dang! Sorry Terry, the really issue is the headsets only get more expense lol than 300-500. One thing to note is that VR tech is evolving quick, which is good and bad, granted some folks change phones every year but headsets often have a shelf life of sub 4 years maybe 3. Now some can work after the companies stop supporting the product but in general you will find that HP dropped the G2, Microsoft dropped WMR, Varjo Dropped the Aero. Yes, some of the older Meta headsets don't work, but the Quest 2 and 3 still work, and Pimax older headset still work additionally if you leave the 600-900 range you end up in the 1000+ - 2500+ range and you might have a similar shelf life. Again, this tech is evolving and this might be a good video to t talk about so folks kind of have a heads up and maybe be aware of. Where are you at today? have you seen the new MSFS 2024? Hey Adam! My point was to share best ADVICE to "SEE" in VR and I delivered on it if you watched it all... but I understand if you chose not to. I discuss current headsets with Passthrough and the mixed reality and pros and cons, also that pass through is not fully fledged for our sims and then shared 3 tips to help (beginner) folks see, manage, and use their simpit in VR. I didn't make up this video, I literally get asked this several times a month if not a week and figured I wanted to cover all aspects while sharing some other insight. Either way, I appreciate your feedback!
Yet another negative Nancy troll knocking people for putting out content. There’s plenty of other videos out there. If you don’t like what you see move on. Why spread negative energy around to people? Makes no sense and you embarrass yourself. No one looks at these comments saying “wow yeah this guy is right” meaning you….have a great day!
@@theVRpilot no worries, I was just trolling you. I enjoy your content , I'm looking forward to building an emersive rig based on your recommendations.
All of this is a nonsense, past century solutions, in my humble opinion. Only a 100% clickable and controlled virtual cockpit, with virtual hotas and hand controllers (VTOL VR for example) will give you full VR immersion, without scotching panels and moving chairs around the room.
I appreciate your feedback and opinion. VTOL VR is amazing, I agree that immersion is one of my favorite). The purpose of this is to teach folks about muscle memory. I have a facebook group with 9,500 followers, and get 15-30 request to join a day and 2-3 of them ask, HOW TO SEE OR USE MY GEAR IN VR. they are new. this video is literally for them. I have some cool projects coming up including a tutorial build of my current custom built wood sim pit, and two new sim rigs with wildy different prices come up. Ill be building and showing them off in comparison to the scotch tape method lol.
Is there a tutorial for this?
@@travisashby not yet... there are tutorials for creating web FIPs with behringer X-Touch Mini and AAO .. just combine all informations. Maybe its a good idea for @theVRPilot to be the first :-)
I tried this, but I got jitters really bad. When Reality Mixer is off, no jitters.
It's cool that you go the extra mile(s) beyond ATC and also get into flying. I bet it helps with your awareness as an ATC - even if it's sim experience. Thanks for sharing this info for simmers and keeping the skies safe in real life
Yeah, I think it definitely does. I also go flying any time I get an invite lol.
Just found your channel and really like it. Whether it be cost or time constraints a lot of people don't have the opportunity to get certified as a pilot. Sims have come so far they're a great way to enjoy flying and fit it into the rest of your life. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the kind words Rock Dog!
Thanks for watching!
exactly! be patient and learn to find the keys and mouse , or even your cup of coffee without pass thru. i have zero issue's using them all.
Yup! Now while in VR, I have found that STRAWS are amazing lol, even in can of beer. Can over glass so you don't knock it over and have broken glass and beer everywhere lol.
@theVRpilot with cans rotate the tab and the hole there is an excellent straw holder so your not pinching the straw on the sharp edge
Excellent advice. That is a simple solution too! Thanks for sharing.
if you have a 3D printer which you should, because who can live without one :D just Print some Office chair wheel chock. i used that before i build my sim rig. and it works perfectly!
your content is consistently superlative. how do you not have 100k subscribers?
I appreciate the feedback! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I just mount every to the arms of my chair and then use rough and smooth Velcro on buttons so i can feel my way round then. Works for me, never need to take the headset off.
That sounds pretty good!
Another great accessory for flight siming to replace most if not all of your keyboard is the Razer Tartarus V2. It's design ensures you can find the key you want just by feel. It takes up very little room in your setup. Check it out, you'll never go back to using a keyboard in a VR flight sim.
Great suggestion, I’ll check it out.
For dcs get a leap motion and calibrate your virtual hands with your simpit. Works like a charm.
I have one here, I never opened it. I should try it!
If you are a professional pilot and still an FO , I fairly understand the reason behind to seat in the right hand seats, for many reasons actually: to practice procedures, muscle memory ,proficiency checks , etc...
Yes! Great point. I thought of that after as h saw some videos of folks doing exactly that.
@@theVRpilot yes 😄 exactly , unless It's time for captain upgrade, then makes sense to move to captain side, to really finally practice muscle memory on the left hand side when you really need to succeed in training and line training, checks .. nice video by the way, thanks so much for sharing! 😊
for "muscle memory" I use these small silicone dots from Amazon, I stuck them on my most used keys.
Another real world pilot and simmer said he uses those as well! Great advice!
Thanks for sharing that!
Good idea. Thanks.
Muscle memory is still my best friend. Combined with my X-touch mini and I have all the buttons and rotaries I need for msfs.
Muscle Memory FTW!

For reals!!!
You understand my PAIN!!! This is definitely quite the hurdle to get over.
I watched the video just to dip my toe in VR for flight sims but it was a great video! Definitely will watch more from you 💪💪
Awesome! Thanks!

For some reason that shot just looks so good. Great sense of speed with great visuals! Nice vid! Thx!
Glad you enjoyed it
I got distracted by the Florida view. Lol i grew up in the state and cant wait to see it from that view in VR.
I can't wait to see it in the new MSFS 2024!!
For the rolling chair solution, just put an old 👞 shoe under one of the wheels on back of the chair, no need to change ur chair.
If you watch my last video I found a really cool solution to it!
Haven't taken the vr plunge but you have helped me a lot.... thanks..( an old school simmer)...DIY IS THE BEST!!!
Happy to help!
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback.
I plan on doing a few more similar to this to help new folks out.
What are you biggest issues with Vr so far?
@@theVRpilot I’m so new to VR, I don’t have enough in it to make an informed response. Playing games like Alyx is awesome. I used to fly for real back in my day (Senaca III) and the lack of tactile feedback is unnatural. We didn’t have EFIS back then and airspace had weird names like ARSA ! I see things like InfuseVR and see a bright future.
I built myself a throttle quadrant with VR in mind and made it so that I can easily handle it blind, by the way the knobs are aligned.
I can fully relate to the ‘non rolling chair’ tip. 😅
That’s awesome! Sometimes custom making it is the way to go.
Vr for real people. Love it
Thank you for answering this !

Great channel, Im also an ATC at KPGD, as well as a civil aviation pilot, drone pilot, and flight sim fanatic.
Hey Neighbor! Very cool! MSFS 2024 cant come soon enough! lol
No doubt!!
9:00 laughed a bit for this runner mouse mishap. Can relate.
I could have sworn I have recently seen QR codes on controls so they track better in Quest. This would be cool to allow taking hands off Yoke and flip controls with hands.
Imagine that. I wonder how long before it’s implemented natively lol
For drinks - an unspillable cup such as for example the Mighty Mug.
Your set up looks amazing, and fantastic considering you built it all yourself.
You can buy solid rubber feet to replace the caster wheels on your chair.
I’ve been looking for a video like this since I got my Quest 3 to play on DCS. Thank you.
Awesome! Check out my current rig that I use, it really helps with immersion I think. ITs a DIY $200 wood frame.

Your PC is outputting beautiful.. Can you do a recommended settings video using Quest 3 w/ cable? Im running a RTX 4080 Super CPU/GPU overclocked..
Ive had multiple request for this, I will do a video soon!
Awesome video, The power of the beard is real!!! Great VR help content!

Yes, I have seen this! I will look into this more as I was excited and think this could help simmers.
Thanks for the reminder!
Happy Flying!
Really nice content. Love the way you explain things.
Thanks Brad! I’m working on more videos now!
Yeah No worries! thanks for watching! Greetings from KTPA!
I was going into this video with skepticism but tbh you gave some great tips and eared yourself a sub. Off to the hardwere shop i go to buy some wood.
Awesome! Thanks! new videos up on the MSFS 2024, I got to check it out! LMK what you think of it!
No offense.
None taken, you make great points.
VR with passthrough will be the answer in most cases when quality goes up and prices come down.
I strap my trackball mouse to my right leg . I find it easier as you can feel where the mouse is .
That’s excellent!
Your tips are super relevant and helpful for most people, great video!
Thank you for sharing that feedback.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have a lot of WinWin kit here , I don't use the face gasket on my Quest3, so I get a good peek gap below. I trimmed the lower section of my Pico4 and Q2 just the same for the same reason.
Interesting, thanks for sharing.
I need to try that.
Where is that blue edge light behind you from!! So neat!
If you Google, taxi way edge light you will find them on EBay and Etsy.
This was a gift from a friend.
Again, thanks for the video. take care.
Cheers! Flying Sims in VR really are next level. Its like racing... but better... haha. Lmk if you try it and what you think of it!
Nice, where are you controlling? I'm at MCO
Hey Man! Cool! Spent 15 years at MIA now I’m at TPA! I can almost see MCO from here lol.
Dwamn! Is that a Thrustmaster Cougar throttle I see on your left? Mine is still going strong and use it every day but yours look like brand new. Good to see.
Yes it is! It is holding up well! Did you see the Thrustmaster AVA? Looks interesting.
New to the Channel, Great Video. Thank you
Thank you for the kind words and welcome!
Plenty more content coming up. Are you Real pilot or sim/VR pilot?
@gromm93 dude, I have one too and I made a custom DCS panel on a Lego box from my kids lol. It’s rough but I had fun making it. And it worked!
@@richardhockey8442 :( if he write back let me know lol
any idea on how to get a second person into the cockpit with you, in VR, possibly in different physical location? like a buddy, or flight instructor? seeing the same thing as you.
That’s a great question that u see often.
At this point the only way I know how isn’t technically supported and simply requires a second PC with a second VR headset.

How to setup the quest 3 with the hotas. I am new to this kindly provide some setup guide. How do we play with hotas in VR
I am editing a video showing how to build a budget sim pit setup. Should be up within a week or so.
Great advice video
Glad it was helpful!
What sim do you fly or race in VR?
Thought you would have info about chroma features of VD. Should clarify video title.
I tried to overlay physical controllers with reality mixer with not much success

Very cool man! I figured I wasn't the only one out there haha
Came here hoping for a passthrough solution. You lost me at muscle memory 👍🏿
I first purchased the model with the Trackball on the left side,
amzn.to/46W4Gx6, controlled by the thumb in February of 21.
I hope that was as clear as mud and it helps! lol
lmk what you decide and how it goes for you. I am curious.
Either way, this will be better than a standard mouse!

@theVRpilot thanks for the insight. I didn't realize the middle ball didn't have traditional scrolling. That alone makes me lean towards the thumb control.
Edit: just checked and this is one of the ones I saved in my amazon cart.
so htf do I do this with a "RealSimGear" full dual-Garmin1000 set up?! 🧐😳
Cheers
Jose
Interesting, not yet!
1:53 damn. Where did you get that runway edge light
A gift from a friend, you can check Etsy or Ebay or google it and find different items.
You didnt mention InfuseVR?
Yea, looks like that might be my only option. Thanks.
IDK why MS can't program hands like in VTOL
That would be absolutely fire. I love VTOL VR. They have that feature nailed perfectly.
What airport are you at as atc?
Hey at KTPA! Tower and TRACON
Sorry whats the event that shall not be named?
lol c0v1d.
UA-camrs joke about getting shadow banned for talking about it.
I can not begin to say how many times folks (likely new to VR Flight Sim ) have asked, I don't know how to see my mouse, or "I am struggling finding my keyboard in VR", "cant use my yoke while flying because I cant see it".
...and I reply each time, "Well guys its all about muscle memory, like playing a musical instrument, riding a bike, or entering your pin. etc etc etc etc "
This video was a slightly longer (I tried to make it short lol) explanation also covering a few other things and some tips to really help those entering the world of VR flight simulation or racing.
If i had a dollar for every time i have been asked that. 🤣😂
😂😂 so true
I posted some new videos on it.
Join my discord community and we can chat there with other folks that might have some good suggestions.

Tower/tracon/center controller?
MIA Tower Tracon for 15 years, now at TPA Tower TRACON !
@@theVRpilot nice! Zdv controller here!
Awesome! I thought I was the only nerd in the agency. Haha
On the Quest 3
However, 2024 is coming out, so might be a full game changer..
So true! I’m excited!
I just reach for the mouse
lol, I’ve dropped my mouse so many times. I have my trackball attached with double sided tape now lol.
Dude, get a bunch of subs and learn to fly 😁
I love the idea! Haha let’s gooo
Yet just another clickbait title and video... Sad
Dude! That mug is nasty 🤮
Um it was a real latte I made with whip crème and cinnamon lol. Yeah that happens to the cup? Sorry?
Does it make the video any less valid?
