It is fairly common for people to look at time and think “Mumble Rapper”. He can’t be further from that.

I’m 63 and hated rap. When I found Tom, I realized it was rap I hated, it was the message it promoted, drugs, violence and the objectification of women. Tom speaks out against that crap.
FYI: Tom has many fans that share his videos with their children. Tom knows the will hear certain words but, out of respect for his fans, he self censors his videos. He does not want to be the one that introduces those words into the vocabulary of kids.
Tom suffers from depression and anxiety, was an alcoholic and addicted to drugs. He had a mental breakdown where he spend 9 months living with his mom, waking up everyday, considering suicide. He got clean and sober and now speaks out against rappers glamorizing the habits.

I'm 52 and was never much into Rap. Except for some Beastie Boys songs way back, I mainly listen to Classic Rock 70's and some 80s and 90s.
My 1st Tom song was Whiteboy and I loved it because I admired Tom's Balls!! Lol, after that remark I will say I'm a "Straight White Male".

I listened to rap pretty much exclusively for most of my teens and Eminem was top of the list for me. Then I heard NF and started listening to a little rap again, and the first time I saw Tom I thought "oh one of these guys...." but the first song I heard by him was White Trash and took me about 2 bars to realize that "no, this guy is nothing like the face tatted sound cloud guys"

Tom censors most of his songs on youtube, when I asked him about it after a show he said it's for two reasons 1: he wants families to be able to listen without worrying 2: helps with monetization

He doesn't believe we all have to think the same way but be open enough to discuss without causing a divide. His fans are known as the Hang Over Gang or HOG. Em was a very big influence in Toms life so the song a personal tribute to Em, The beats name is Stans revenge thats why it has a Stan theme . A lot of people who like Rock and Metal really like Tom. He’s not a normal rapper. He’s intelligent and thought provoking and really down to Earth. Listen to at least 4 songs as his songs are all different, but all good.

If you feel that way about current rap, then you will LOVE Tom's music; he calls out the mumble and mainstream rappers and their garbage lyrics in a lot of his music. Tom is a guy that is going to make you think and pause a lot with the things he discusses in his songs. I am just like you: LOVED Eminem back in the Slim Shady days and just stopped listening to him through time. I also cannot stand 3/4 of all modern hip hop and rap due to the content of the lyrics. I was so happy when I found Tom and a handful of other small independent artists like him: Now I have music from this genre that I once again can enjoy! Dax and NF are also really good with little to no profanity/vulgarity and lyrics that actually say something!

It's a "Thank You" to Em while telling the Stans who have the wrong idea of who he is, where he's coming from. Some Em fans took issue with Tom calling out Em in a couple of other songs, Fake Woke & Cloned Rappers.
Tom's music has substance. There is a point to his songs. Unlike most rap that has come out. His song Angels has literally saved my life. It got through to me like my friends and family never could.
Recommendations to see Tom MacDonald's range. First you would want to see where he blew-up so "Dear Rappers" is where you want to start. "Fake Woke" is where you will see him going after the Cancel Culture, "Sober" is about struggles with drugs & drink, "I Wish" which deals with depression. "Castles" is a commentary on urban society, "Buttholes" is a light-hearted way of saying "stop being assholes to each other". "No Good Bastards", "Church", and "Heart Emojis" are more recent, done with his extremely talented girlfriend, Nova Rockafeller, and best friend, Brandon Hart. You'll want to check them out as well because they rock. Take a breath.. Tom's brand is not your typical bar heavy double-time rapping, it's more head bobbing toe tapping stuff. Oh yeah... Tom edits the curse words out of his songs for his UA-cam videos. He knows kids listen so he keeps it clean most of his songs have a message or are meant to start conversations.
Tom has a diverse catalog, he's worth a look. I see many comments recommending where to start if you choose to go down Tom's rabbit hole, to which I agree. However, his song Ashes is more rock, great song to see how diverse he is when compared to Dear Slim. I had not listened to rap in decades until I came across Tom, now I'm 100% there for Tom, and Nova.
I was in the same place as you with rap and Em. I think you'll enjoy this because Tom is the the closest thing to early Marshall "M". Tom bought the beat in an auction. EM didn't know at first. I was never a huge rap fan. Until Tom's "Fake Woke." Kudos to Nova as well for the amazing attention to detail in this video. My admiration for him grows daily. He says he's Marshall BEFORE he became Eminem. This is a beautiful homage to Eminemn.

Tom is very talented. He and his girlfriend Nova both are. He writes the lyrics, the beats, owns his music, and builds the sets. Nova is a rapper, writes her own music, and she directs and l edits both of their videos. They promote, and own it. They have their own punk band together called BFGF. Dear Rappers is his first...I would say "Fake Woke" and "Cancelled" brought him a much larger audience. My favorites...sigh too many, but I love "Politically Incorrect", "No Lives Matter" , "Buttholes" and "Castles".and about 25 more songs. He just dropped a CD with Nova and his friend Brandon Hart..."No Good Bastards" and "Heart Emojis"....HOG family!!!
Tom is loved by children, he cusses (rarely) in his cd version (cd's are the only way to hear everything and he autographs each one) but every video will at least be censored if you choose to react to him (might be one or two not, but he doesn't cuss heavy ever.) he does flip the bird a lot, so lol up to you.
If you get copyrighted, contact him, he'll give them back to you.
I'd recommend going back to "dear rappers" (the song that really started him) and go in order, you'll see in real time how he became who he is, as all his music is in response to his journey. Its just him and Nova, they are awesome, you two seem like you'd be huge fans.

I didn't listen to rap either until I heard Tom a couple of months ago because of the message he has in his songs. He is an independent artist and his girlfriend does all of his videos. Love Castles but he has so many. I have since started listening to NF who is an amazing lyricist and does not swear at all.
