Do people really know what Roe v. Wade is? | Talking With People

  • Steven Crowder hit the streets of Dallas-Fort Worth to talk to people about it-just talk. The topic of Roe v. Wade is contentious, but Americans should still be capable of talking to one another. And what he found out is we can.

How do you feel about Roe v. Wade potentially being overturned?

people talk about women dying. but like. they cant see the child having no option in the matter? who defends that child? right because the mother is the last line of defence. its another thing that 'the agenda' has attacked. ruin the father role in marriage. ruin marriage. ruin children... now take away the thought that women should defend their children.

Its literally ideal to overturn. States should have their own laws. It gives power to the citizens of that state. Minimize federal laws.

I have mixed feelings. I know there are many states that have laws still in place that basically bans abortion. I also have heard stories from my mother about people dying going to hacks because abortion was illegal. I know that a child needs parental consent to go to a dentist for a teeth cleaning but a 13 year old can get an abortion without their parents knowledge. I know my niece was born three months early and is a lovely 22 year old today. I know that there has been a morning after pill for decades but it is not taught as a way to prevent birth but abortion is. I know there has been great strides in birth control that many really do not know and is not widely advised. I know that if it takes you 8.5 months to decide if you want the being growing inside you to live or not, in my opinion, then you already made that decision. I know that if the health of the mother is at stake it is no longer really considered abortion but a medical procedure entirely. I know that "women's health" is about much more than abortion but no one talks about any of the other issues. I know that the founder of planned parenthood was excited to prevent the birth of black babies so placed facilities in predominantly black areas. I know the vast majority of people were actually fine with abortion being "safe, legal, and RARE" but not up to birth and as a normalized form of birth control. So I know a lot of facts and many of my feelings are sort of shown by those facts.
I also know that the overturning sends the issue to the states. My hope is that at that point states have elections so that the people can decide how abortion goes within that state. Let the common sense of the people decide. And hope people use their common sense and not their "feelings".
EDIT: I actually wrote this before watching the video

Roe v Wade includes HIPPA protections also, so the moment it is overturned will allow personal information of all patients who have abortions to be released for public access.

      *The Issues*
      Abortion is either something that:
      1. Prevents a human life coming into existence.
      2. Ends a human life already in existence.
If it is #1 then it is just like the many other available forms of birth control, so why are the pro-abortion people so upset (they have at worst lost one form of #1 from many available forms and there are many medical procedures people are restricted from having and can’t just have because they want them)?
If it is #2 it is immoral and should be illegal. Three reasons why it should be illegal:
      1. It was not the babies choice to be put in a place of dependence for life on the mother, it was the mother’s (adults) choice to open the possibility that the baby would be forced into that position; so she can not just change her mind a few months later and kill the child.
      2. A parent has a moral responsibility for the life and well being of their child.
      3. Killing an innocent human being (and unborn babies are the most innocent and dependent members of our society) is murder and murder should be illegal.
For these three reasons abortion should be illegal. Obviously under rape the first condition does not apply for the mothers side but I believe the other two conditions still apply.

I was pro choice until my wife and I were going to have our son. The deal breaker was when we found out at 4 months that he was going to have Down’s syndrome. First thing the doctor and nurse said was about termination and trying again. I saw him on one of those 3-D sonograms. He was a little dude. How can a person see a baby’s face and decide,Na that’s not a baby I’m gonna kill it. Nope,no way Jose. That’s my son and he’s the best thing that ever happened to me.

When I was pregnant with my second child I was told by the doctors that I should have an abortion. Only because they saw a dot on her heart - they wanted to do "testing" to see more and I told them that I didn't care if she had Down Syndrome or any other "defect" I still wanted to keep her (So I said no to the testing). I couldn't believe how much they pushed the issue, I told them I was pro life and it seemed to have spurred them on. I was so upset with the idea that these people wanted me to abort her - I went somewhere else and got a second opinion. It turns out it was nothing, it was a glitch in their system and there was NOTHING wrong with her heart. She is 7 now and is as healthy as can be. It breaks my heart to think of how many babies are terminated due to this kind of situation. The doctors stoke fear into the mothers and pressure them.

When I told my OB that I didn't want amniocentesis to verify that my daughter had Downs, he actually breathed a sigh of relief. He explained that he was required by law to offer the test, although there is a probability of accidental miscarriage due to the test.

The biggest problem is they aren't being challenged at any point in time, with an opposing viewpoint. I felt the same way. As someone who knew nothing about the subject. At 18. And then I looked up the pictures, of exactly what an abortion is. At these different periods of time. And can now safely say I think an, "abortion" past 12 weeks. Is just plain murder. And that's just from a cold, you don't have a soul. You're a meat bag with bones perspective. That I had at the time. But I will say I wholly disagree with abstinence only doctrine. With no information about contraceptives and basic biology lessons. And that being similar to graduating people who can't read. Even though I know there's a deep spiritual connection between people and flippantly going around, is damaging. And people can argue that. But they see it every time a person completely changes on every level. When they start having that connection again. With someone who is a terrible person. And you can see them on some level become that other person. And no longer accept or talk to you or what say the same way anymore. Until they stop again. And that is also why booze is called spirits. All this stuff is not non sense. There's reasons why people keep coming back to these "old" ideas.

What they don’t tell these women is it’s permanent, it will haunt you if you aren’t a complete sociopath, it can be damaging to the reproductive system and render you infertile, that your baby will be sold for a profit, that PP doesn’t do “female reproductive healthcare”, they’re in 1 business only. When these girls are in their 40’s and on they will start wondering what that baby they killed would have been like, what their grandchildren would have been like, what would their life had been like. It will leave a pit of sadness that never can be filled or replaced and that is just extremely sad for everyone involved. The fathers of these murdered babies, I have heard some heartbreaking stories, men still mourning children they never even laid eyes on 40 years later. I just spoke to a family member of mine that her grand-daughter had several and she’s a wreck! She’s in her 70’s and cries saying she would have raised at least one of them. Horrible. My heart breaks for her. The decision doesn’t just affect the undeserving never-to-be mom, but everyone they know. The aunts and uncles that won’t be. The cousins that won’t get the play together. As divided as the left and right seem these days I’m gonna say that’s because of the loud minority. Most people aren’t as radical in their beliefs as media leads you on to believe. If you're disgusted that some states might vote the way you don't like, then you now understand the meaning of tyranny of the majority ... such as conservative leaning people living in NY and CA feel all the time or left leaning people feel in Mississippi ... At the very least we can say that such majority votes should be held in as local an area as possible, so it's better off with the states much of (not all) the time.

My opinion (because you totally asked) is pro-life. I think the ONLY instance of termination should be if the mother's life is in danger. Which, as I understand, aren't even actually considered abortions, since at that point it's typically a baby that is and was always wanted, it's a rare occurrence and it's a decision to be made by the mother with input from her partner (if in the picture) and doctor. I feel that then women are still protected, but so are unborn babies. It's essentially considered an act of self-defense, and I would fault no woman for choosing to live. As for plan B being relegated to Rx only, I do think I'm opposed to that, only because plan B works better the faster you use it. If you have to contact a doctor, get an appointment, and wait for the Rx to be filled, that reduces the time you have to prevent pregnancy. And I would love to get to the point (or as close to it as possible) where abortions aren't even needed in the first place because women have more direct control over whether they get pregnant or not and still be able to have SOME sort of sex life.

@Ethan Danan well, ordinary and rational people do things for a reason. When you see people move from an extreme left to an extreme right area, its evident that either they arent political, in which case they moved for opportunities they couldnt get in the left leaning area, or they are political and wanted to get away from the ideology. Assuming there was an issue, whether its lack of opportunity or political, is still a safe assumption. But yes, keep not using those critical thinking skills and assuming people make huge, life changing decisions for absolutely no reason that would have to do with the place they were originally living.

The inability for people to have a logical conversation with people they disagree with, and to maintain civility, respect, and politeness, is at the very root of deep societal fragility.
Adults HAVE TO be stronger then that. It doesn’t matter if it’s uncomfortable or bothers you, buck up and grow up. Stay composed, and methodically consider what you are hearing, then logically respond with your perspective.
Then lastly, be humble enough to realize when you were wrong. After having seen that your perspective was disjointed and not logical. We have to be rooted in ultimate Truth, and be lead by that foundational logic in which we build all arguments off of. @@brynasaurus that's because they are children who don't know how debate this subject. They get caught in the morality argument and are bashed over the head with it.
Fact is morality doesn't matter in this argument. Want to know the difference between a fetus and a baby who depends on breast feeding.
A baby can survive a few days without the mother before it dies. A baby can be handed over to someone else and cared for.
A fetus is utterly dependent on the mother. The mother is acting as a life support for the child while it's developing. Take that child out of the mother and it will die in minutes.
Now some one is going to argue that what about premature birth. However the argument still stands. A child who is born prematurely won't survive but a few minutes without the mother. This is why they put the baby on machines and tubes to help it survive long enough to finish developing.
Does an unborn baby have a right to life yes. However it doesn't mean that the baby should have priority rights over the mother. By saying women aren't allowed to choose your reducing them to incubator.
Now I don't agree with the morality of abortion. Yet also don't believe that this subject is simple. That being said it doesn't matter. Even if you get all states to create anti-abortion it flat out won't stop abortion from being carried out. Where there is a will there is a way. Women will just go to Canada or Mexico or turn to back ally doctors or try to do it themselves.
The answer to abortion is not in anti-abortion laws it's in redesign welfare and expanding on it. I don't believe most women turn to abortion for just because. I believe most do it out fear, stress, and anxiety. They see the lack of options and feel alone. This is the underlying problem we need to address. Most women I have listen to who have had abortion said they were desperate and felt they had no choice. They saw no other options or very limited options. This is what we need to fix.

Student loans work different in Europe, in theory you never have to pay them back unless you earn over a certain amount a year and it will never take out more than $80 a month.
If you come back and get a good job you don’t notice it and if you don’t you just don’t have to pay so it’s actually not that bad, so it’s possible for him to not having to even start paying back his loan until he turns 40 and already has a house
My ex from Poland studies in the UK at a high tuition school and the loan is just a stress to get but they’re pretty generous terms

Hmm.. so what's breastfeeding, changing diapers, cleaning, clothing, housing, doctor bills, and constant supervision, then? Is that just.. incubating the fetus outside of the womb? Should we be aborting kids up to 10 years old? You know, since that's when they're generally able to fend for themselves and don't *have* to rely on their parent to survive?

@@RNM-bu4rj my point is that they cannot survive the early years of their life without their mother. The same is true during pregnancy. The mother has to care for the child and keep it healthy, make parental choices, and if they do, then the baby lives. If not, it doesn't. The only difference is that they don't have to see the baby they neglect when they're still pregnant. Not unlike how someone who orders a hit on someone detaches themselves from the fact they had a person killed.

@@lorrainearmstrong7587 Your argument is disengenuous. The man wanting the baby and being willing to raise it without the mother is offering up the next 18 years of their life, Compared to the 9 months of pregnancy.
That very small percentage that you think would say yes to it may not be nearly as small as you think. There are so many stories about fathers wanting the child, Being willing to raise it without the mother if she will only have it, and then the mother and/or her family depending on her age cutting the father out of it completely and just aborting the baby anyway.
Also. i'm just going to point out your rhetorical biases by purposely using 'the man' and 'the girl' and pushing certain rather biased Connotations through these particular words and your stripping all the power out of the woman in the situation with your words despite the fact that it's actually the guy that has no power or choice in it at all. he just has to accept whatever he chooses despite the fact that she couldn't even get to that power and that decision without the help of the man to be in that situation.
