I have three tentscle sync for the cameras and they work beautiful to keep things in sync.
Got an event to shoot and used some money from that to invest in the track e as that was one last missing piece.
Its amazing the amount of time it saves in the edit. Not cheap but an investment in workflow time, which in turn allows me to deliver quicker.
Absolutely! Find those efficiencies which save you time and money. It’s justified.

@@dmitryvoznesensky9088 sorry for the delayed response. I have a friend I shoot with at some events, (sometimes 6 or 7 Cameras running) we sync Deity with Tentacle all the time. Both systems are solid, they both Jam easily, Deity is like Android Phones a lot more muscle memory with their menus 😅 Tentacles is like an IPhone, I could show a kids how to run Tentacle and walk off… known I will have great Audio. Deity has some new Body Recorders now that are nice…. But Tentacle just a better thought out product. And funny enough I think that is why people are slowly understanding the value, it looks basic in a World where people want Flare 😂🎇

@@TrentErwin I heard that pro soundies won't use them as primary recorders because you can't monitor them live, they are using them as back up recorders though.
Do you like them more over Deity TC-1?

Do you know if once you have paired the units together in the app, do they auto pair and sync when you turn them on again? Can you just power them up and start recording? Or do you need to use the app every time to sync everything up?
Pretty sure you have to use the app to sync them each time to guarantee they are 100% synced.
I am thinking about using 32bit float on the Tentacle Track E for a project where I will not be able to actively monitor audio levels. I tend to have increase sound in post.
What is your workflow for editing the sound ? Do you use e.g. Premiere, Audition and what tools do you use to set the gain up ? At what point do you convert the audio files to 24bit ?
I always set the gain a bit lower on this device so I can raise it more in post as needed. That's the beauty of 32bit float is that you can raise levels without raising the noise floor completely. So you can recover something that's more soft. Although on set I do check levels of the person I'm working with and set gain according their voice, and then let it ride from there. I've never had an issue with the Track E even if someone peaked a decent amount because the gain was too high. I've been able to recover everything I've recorded that was too high or too low. I don't convert down to 24bit. Just not needed for me. These days I mainly work within DaVinci Resolve and use EQ for lav, some compression, and at times the voice isolation if there's any background noise. I'm not an audio pro, but I've figured out what works for me in DaVinci and Premiere.

There's a few reviews on these going back two years so don't know how you missed them.
You also failed to mention to your audience that due to a Zaxcom cease and desist the US version doesn't have audio monitoring once in record mode. I heard a lot of Americans are importing the European version because they are not affected by this block. They are the same unit with different firmware. I use a pair of Bluetooth headphones to monitor them, the delay is a pain but it works. Not being able to monitor audio live is its biggest drawback.
I bought 3 of these because I hate radio body packs, they're expensive and the licences are just a pain, and knowledge of frequency blocks is something I just can't be bothered with the landscape is a shit show with more areas being sold privately.
They have a list of bench tested lav mics that work with these on their website, I can add the Countryman B6 work just fine with these.
I discovered it about 16 months ago and no one was talking about it then, at least not in my communities and people I follow. People still aren’t talking about Tentacle. And then they’re acting like 32-bit recorders are brand new this year at NAB 😂
@@TrentErwin Tentacle have been known in the industry for their sync boxes for many years. So that's what they're known for, they're new players in the recording arena.
But do you need another one for the camera? I edit on DaVinci.
You can have a time code sync for your camera but I use the Track E just for audio recording and then sync with my camera scratch audio in Davinci based on waveform.
@Trent Erwin ok, so no different then using the zoom f2, unless the scratch audio makes a difference. The F2 doesn't have scratch audio.
is there a way to set up two tentacle devices for one camera source and have it sync? can you walk through the process of how you set up the round table interview?
You would put one Tentacle “Sync E” going into your Camera Audio Jack.
From there the Tentacle “Track E” Recorders would go on each Talent individually (you could go up to 10+ people 😂 if you wanted).
Initially you sync the Timecode and ALL Devices will stay in Perfect Sync for 24hours without drift maybe a frame loss, just leave them on and shoot as normal throughout the day.
I have 3 of the On-Talent Mics and 4 of the Sync Units on my Multicams for Weddings… once you use it there’s no better option.

While the unit itself is pretty solid, the lav itself is mediocre and I recommend buying something of higher quality for those who care about having better audio quality unless it's not in the budget.
Certainly there are better lavs out there. But honestly, I’ve used this one in a lot of environments (indoors/outdoors) and I’ve always been impressed.

I don't want you to think I'm coming for your head with the initial comment. I'm just a bit of a stickler with facts. "Very Good" to me falls under a higher end product. The included lav does get the job done up to a point.There's times where you'll have to pair it with a better microphone for a production that expects a certain quality of audio to be delivered.
