Never seen your channel before, congrats on the 10k! I appreciate the wise words. It's worth noting, the big attribute of the IB alignment isn't group delay, ... it's the extraordinary sensitivity increase that accompanies the acoustically large back-space. The driver not needing to work against the air spring of a typical backspace, be it sealed, vented, whatever ... that's what elicits the coveted attributes of the IB. Sensitivity I've built/used multiple alignment platforms. I built a quad 18" attic manifold IB for my primary system. It's not without its drawbacks ... each approach possess unique pros and cons. Everything in loudspeaker design, especially subwoofer design, involves tradeoffs. Solid content, much appreciated. Cant wait to check out the other work!
key word being FOR (not WITH which is how i read the title) LOL i bought a house needing a shit ton of reno last year that so happens to have the living room right above the garage. during the process i installed two 15's (Dayton Audio DCS380-4) hidden in the floor upfiring through air conditioning vents, backfiring into the garage. some of the best sounding bass i've heard for sure - smooth with no peaks/dips, 'fast', quite deep and the biggest benefit is that you can hardly hear it from the outside since what little escapes from the front and back wave basically cancels out. oh yeah, and nobody knows where the subs are lol
One of my early builds was 4 8” subs in an infinite baffle set up on the rear deck of my large pontiac coupe. Wired into one channel the sound was amazing to my young ears and the sight of four drivers moving in unison was impressive at the time. As you noted , a downside to the set up was unchecked cone travel so the subs lasted about 6 months before the suspension got too loose and they had to replaced. I went through three sets of subs before I changed setups. Donation made for your friend’s family, best wishes for his recovery.
Gotta get a sub more suited for IB. High Qts is one of the metrics you should look for. Or check for my other comment that'll lead you to a video where a guy explains it in depth. Of course, if you just want a sub recommendation, Fi IB315 is the ticket. In a sedan you can do two of them in a trunk baffle, and as long as you have a decently strong roll-off in your tuning below 20hz, you can run each one on 700w RMS (rated 600) and they won't stroke out like your worried about. They don't even go above Xmax (which is not the same as the full mechanical limit) until 20hz on 700w, and that's true IB, not a 4x VAS or 10x VAS trunk baffle setup. At 600w rated RMS they don't hit Xmax until 10-15hz IIRC, so there's plenty of room to play with. Even more so if you set your lowest desired frequency higher (IE 25-30hz for the start of the roll-off) and/or have a particularly strong infrasonic roll-off like -18dB/octave or more.
I played a bit with speakers myself, and one thing i found easy to do trying to lower the frequency of a speaker was add a bit of weight to the cone, right on top of the coil so it will slow down the movement of the membrane. Another thing that helps is adding another magnet on top of the existing one. It may sound crazy, but trust me you can turn a bass into a sub if you do both. Hope to get you to at least a few million subs you are hilarious cheers.
Congratulations you mad bugger! May you quickly make it to 100,000 and put a subbie in the wall of the house! And you will be able to rebuild your now crumbling garage! You are the best my man! Please keep it up!
Gosh darnit, I love UA-cam so freaking much! Just a man, a shed, a phone and a brain that is thinking of stuff that for some reason, men's brains do... Why is that BTW? Why do we dig us down in holes just because the earth is filled with numbers and stuff? I know the reason... in the end it gives us a reason to buy STUFF, and we need something to do. Each weekend needs to be filled with work. Work that we want to do! :) GJ, keep it going! :)
It's not just that. Weekends are the time we get to work on what we want to work on. Unless, like me, you have a pile of crap to clean up from when you took a week off to install enuf to get the car playing to my standards.
All matter has two properties in a man's brain. It can either be repaired or improved. If it's broken, fix it. If it's not broken, make it louder/faster/hotter/cheaper/flatter/stronger/easier. Should your matter break during the improvement process, simply repeat.
I've done this in two different cars over the years, the effect is startling, even with a cheap 30 dollar Jensen woofer. Just had to be careful with power. I always recommend it, nearly built one for my living room. but SVS made for a cheaper alternative with similar results. Also the "no noise outside" was an effect we noticed for both cars. Keeps the bass in where you need it.
This was so funny and awesome! I've not had any personal experiences with infinite baffle in a vehicle but if it does not play Bass outside, then it's a no from me. I've seen a vehicle with subwoofers on the roof as the infinite baffle setup (they cut a hole in the roof for it to actually work lol). I personally not gonna do that considering having the subs exposed to rain and elements but was very interesting for sure.
Infinite volume sealed box for the win. Open WinISD and model that. It's basically what is happening here. Then model the same woofer in a 3 cubic foot sealed box and apply the Linkwitz filter to boost the bass response down to the free air resonance of the woofer. You will have the exact same response. The same maximum SPL. It takes very little power to move the woofer at low frequencies. The woofer output is limited by its Xmax at low frequencies.
To update.....the garage now has a new window. No more breaking windows though!!! Maybe the garage door next so i can use that as an excuse to replace it. People please get behind me to persuade him that we need a new garage door!!! Please and thanks 🙏😂 give him ideas on how to break that...

Man, that means so much! Its all about feeling alive and being great to everyone. The worlds a scary place and if i can make people smile for 15 minutes, twice a month, then I'm doing my bit.
Wow! This channel is getting more and more amazing! While group delay is a thing as long as it's flat it's curver is flat it can be corrected with delaying the other speakers. Even if not flat with a more advanced DSP it can be flattened. A 15 in essentially a sealed box doing that is crazy! And my god i had that same reaction when i first played something seriously DEEP on my 8inch Tapped Horn that's tuned to 15hz. It's louder than the Ported 15 that was also tuned to 15hz that i had before which is absolutely wicked! I will absolutely help out buddy out a bit! Bass homies gotta take care of each other!
A rotary subwoofer can also play those frequencies, but even wayyy louder! A disadvantage is that it can only go up to about 30-40 hz though depending on the design. It also uses an infinite baffle.
You can also build the backside of your infinite baffle into a connected garage, basement, attic or crawl space with usually very similar or "good enough" results. Somehow weather proofing your install should be the next priority.
Considder making a manifold with 2 drivers wired in phase, but mechanically opposed. Or if you want to cancel out 2nd order harmonics mount 1 normal 1 inverted and wire 1 driver out of phase so the woofers move mechanically oposing in a push push configuration.
I've been running IB in my car for a couple years. You dont get much above 60hz reponse to the front. So you need a front sub like a 10" in sealed to do 60hz and above. You wont every feel anything like IB from an box. Plus you only need a few hundred watts.
I have experimented as a younger teen we used to call those kind of speakers free air subs as they didnt need a box to run. Hatchback cars of the 70s and 80s were great as you could make a board to cover the hatch area and put some cheap speakers in it for a kid on a small budget this worked very well. Also pvc pipe works I would cut a small section about the same length as the speakers was wide and just leave the back side of the tube open.
Yeah buddy! In the late 80's i put a 15 inch cerwyn vega free air sub on a fat plywood across the gap behind the back seat on a 74 plymouth valient powered by a 1000 watt toshiba comp series... U could hear it moving 3 blocks away. 😅🎉
really like the idea and the shaking lamps lol The dumbest thing i found out is that you can use a midrange from a Teufel M550 FCR select as a subwoofer that goes down to below 50 hz
i really like the way you present what you do and the things you do! thats why i immediately followed your channel. i think your children are lucky with a basshead as a father! i wish you luck making more content!😁
I think before I would modify the gas tank location, I might actually try this with my 97 civic, needs welding and other kind of engineering, but would be fun to try before fiberglassing stuff
Back in my day I had an 81 cutlass supreme and we all know how good they are for reverb-aka hollow😅 I built a 3/8 chip board box that was probably 12 cubic feet but I ran out of plywood so there was a 3.5 in open air gap across the bottom of the box. I filled it with poly fill and I ran two 10’s and a Rockford fosgate punch 100 amp. The Sony head unit was like 60 amp per channel and I had two three ways in the “luggage tray” and four ways in the dash and I swear to bob that was the best sounding set up I’ve ever had!!!!!!!! I sold the car and haven’t beeen able to duplicate since!! Those cars with “ported” boxes are AWESOME! They’re almost, well akin to infinite as you talk because they’re true unibody and the only thing separating the trunk from the cabin is a weird hard foam type stuff of the rear seat backs! That car is in my bucket list btw😅
Your videos always inspire me to do something crazy for the audio for my little car. Now im thinking a transmission line with a passive radiator just because its crazy! Hope you are keeping well mate 😊 looking forward to the next video!

Infinite baffle and offset transmission lines are my favorite. When paired with a nice amplifier, the drums sound more realistic and have a tight snap that will make your eyes blink.
@@cajampa Exactly what he shows in this video. He didn't mount the driver near the start of the line. It was mounted around 1/3rd from the starting point. Doing so helps reduce the midrange ripple. You can test this yourself by measuring the impedance curve and comparing the results.
@@svojon Thanks, but wow. I have no idea what you are talking about man. Sorry to tell you. I am not well versed in building subs and I can not parse what you are telling me. Are you talking about the mounting position somehow....was is the line and what is the starting point?
@@cajampa I'll try to keep it simple. Think of a TL as a simple straight pipe. The starting area is the side of the pipe that's sealed off. The ending area is the opposite side that's open. Normally the speaker is mounted near the starting area. The offset design has the speaker mounted around 1/3 or more away from the starting area.
@@svojon ok. If I get you right. You mean to mount the speaker 1/3 inside the area. But he did not do that. He mounted it right at the edge of the open area. And in between the the spaces right at the area that those spaces meet. Sorry I still have no idea what you mean. He placed the speaker in an open baffle in the wall between the room and the outside. How is that mounting it 1/3 of anything. Make it make sense.
Another awesome video from my kind of nutter. I love your energy. Don't think my landlord would be too happy if I cut a hole in the wall though. Thanks for sharing your kindness. It's rare these days for people to genuinely care. I had tears at the end. Thank you
@@PacmanBasshead Its ok , make some metal baffle rings for support on top and bottom for reinforcement and as long as its not structural such as the spare tire well it wont hurt anything.
To the Angel that tolerates Adam, MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU!!!! To Adam: YOU BEST DO ANY AND EVERYTHING SHE SAYS, BEFORE SHE SAYS IT, FROM THIS MOMENT ON!!!!!!!!!!
Back in the early 90's I set up my high school car with the whole trunk as the sub box for a pair of Pioneer 12" subs running around 250 - 300 watts each. (Big power back in the day.) It took a lot of sealing get the trunk isolated from the interior but I could out-boom absolutely anything. 😋
Years ago, I picked up a pair of infinite baffle subs not realising what they were… stuck em in a box in my car & wasn’t impressed… dug into why they were meh & discovered what infinite baffle was… Made up a mounting board to mount them directly to the car behind the back seats, effectively making the entire boot/trunk the box (as close as I was going to get to true infinite baffle inside the car). Wow what a difference it made.
Nice to see a UK channel.. i used to do soundoffs 20 odd years ago .. 4 JBL 1800Gti's powered by 2 hifonics colossuses in a cortina ( no im not ian iceman ) lol had a massive accident which killed the car scene for me .. nice to see its still alive and kicking
GGs on 10kg, actually 15k as of 8/10/2024. This is a bonkers idea. So, that's what I'm going to do. Rip out a window in one of my F off rooms and put four twelves in it's place. Close off the HVAC and add a mini split. Weather sealing around the door, too. Should sound good with the open baffle speakers I build. Usually I'll front load the sub. Now I'll change the crossover to filter out below 100 and send 125 and down to the window subs. I'll have to do some DSP to dial it in. If my wife doesn't like it, she can move back into her house. Actually, she'll love it. She's like that. LoL The window is out in the screened in covered porch. It'll give some bass to the outside speakers there. Win win. Speakers doing double duty. Time alignment is going to be fun. Great video cuz. And thanks for giving me another bonkers idea to try out.

Love the curiosity and I love the dedication, just found the channel and I will be binging a lot of your videos
Thankyou! It's all about just going for it, no one ever discovered anything by following the crowd 😆
I think before I would modify the gas tank location, I might actually try this with my 97 civic, needs welding and other kind of engineering, but would be fun to try before fiberglassing stuff
That baffle would make a nice spot for a rotary subwoofer ( variable pitch propeller subwoofer ) would 👋 slap…
My doorway would also make a nice spot...
Its as if theres another video planned for the future..
Dude i don't no you but you have a good heart and i enjoyed this video . Thanks for everything you do.
Thankyou for taking the time to comment and for the complement, it only take 2 seconds to make someone smile!
"Yes there is a door, i'll close it, and hope for the best! (Me wife not catching me! )😂 Best wishes to the two of you!!!
That stone cold window shatter 😂😂😂
absolute mad lad glad youtube recommend your video enjoyed it very much. The energy you put on your video very interesting.
Loved the wire ties on the battery terminals!
To be fair, removing that window and putting wood there probably improved the insulation in the room. You've just improved your heating/cooling.
This is absolutely nuts! Thanks for making an entertaining video and teaching me something new
Congratulations to you, Adam on your 10K milestone and being at 13.3K 6 days later! (today 27th July).
I look forward to your future uploads on UA-cam.
I am not religious but Prayers for Wayne too!!
Loved this channel since the day I saw it on your Temu subwoofer video. Can't wait to see this channel get the subs it deserves and see what you have planned for future videos!
Thankyou man! The more it grows the crazier it can get!
Subs with a QTS of .07 or higher generally work good for IB applications. Also, it might be time for tuckpointing that brick wall.
Infinite baffle and offset transmission lines are my favorite. When paired with a nice amplifier, the drums sound more realistic and have a tight snap that will make your eyes blink.
What does offset transmission lines means in this context?
Thank you
Been tempted to do a long tube TL. With an 8" this makes for a window rig much more tempting
Aperiodic
I love seeing you making it big Adam!! As a one of a first subcriber it makes me feel good you are doing it so well!! Keep it up mate!
Will do dude!
I did an IB install in a mates merc . With an 12” FI IB3 sounded nuts and the bass just got deeper when you opened the boot.
Oh that's cool! Cutting the metal scares me haha
@@PacmanBasshead Its ok , make some metal baffle rings for support on top and bottom for reinforcement and as long as its not structural such as the spare tire well it wont hurt anything.
Im going to do this in my living room. This is amazing
To the Angel that tolerates Adam, MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU!!!!
To Adam: YOU BEST DO ANY AND EVERYTHING SHE SAYS, BEFORE SHE SAYS IT, FROM THIS MOMENT ON!!!!!!!!!!
You should play original curtain shaker from Jorge Torres Bassotronics - Curtain Shaker it's 10 - 13hz
Glad to be able to be one of those subs! Love the channel Adam!
Pleased to have you along mate! I'll do my best!
This guy needs more recognition 🤣I've never laughed more from a subwoofer video in my life XD
Amazing haha, thanks for the feedback thats really great to hear, glad you laughed!
@@PacmanBasshead Absolutely bro! Keep it up, can't wait for the next one 💪
I’m a simple man I see a good quality bass video I click 🤷🏾♂️
That's one of the most entertaining build I've seen❤
Back in the early 90's I set up my high school car with the whole trunk as the sub box for a pair of Pioneer 12" subs running around 250 - 300 watts each. (Big power back in the day.)
It took a lot of sealing get the trunk isolated from the interior but I could out-boom absolutely anything. 😋
Subbed, donated, prayed. Love the content, and also wishing well for Wayne. I really hope he manages to recover. Thanks for the video. 👊
Congratulation for 100,000 subscriber, so keep creation and be inspiration and gratefull
Congrats on 10K Adam!!! Cheers from Brazil!!
Heya gustav! Thankyou from england!
IB is great. Works well in vehicles and loud as hell on low power
Yeah the temptation to cut up my passat is ENORMOUS!
The part with you getting permission, made me subscribe funnies😂
Haha, you know its the safest way
UA-cam recommended your channel to me. So glad they did as you are so funny & loved the idea .PS you just got another subscriber.
Congrats Adam... Been following you since the early days.
Oh man thankyou for sticking it out! Found a right flow here!
congrats on the 10k!! 🎉🎉
Years ago, I picked up a pair of infinite baffle subs not realising what they were… stuck em in a box in my car & wasn’t impressed… dug into why they were meh & discovered what infinite baffle was…
Made up a mounting board to mount them directly to the car behind the back seats, effectively making the entire boot/trunk the box (as close as I was going to get to true infinite baffle inside the car). Wow what a difference it made.
Congrats on 10k and more than halfway to 15k
Thank you for the video. i was watching a similar one with a diy rotor infrasub but wanted to see with a real speaker.
Im pricing up a rotary sub as we speak!
congrats ! Next step is the ventilator subwoofer in-wall !
What the hell is a ventilator subwoofer?!
Oh man, my corsa rocked 4 gt4 15's back in the day. Love those subs!
Speakers are the best invention in the history of mankind
Bro im glad i have been here since the hundreds. Its the best frikkin blow up!!!
This sounds great I've made speakers once before but this sounds great!!!! Would love to win it
Nice to see a UK channel.. i used to do soundoffs 20 odd years ago .. 4 JBL 1800Gti's powered by 2 hifonics colossuses in a cortina ( no im not ian iceman ) lol had a massive accident which killed the car scene for me .. nice to see its still alive and kicking
Man yhose GTI's are RARE now! Never owned one
They were a great sub, musically accurate . just needed a huge box, sens is a lot better than most subs today, that high excursion is a killer
The old school kick comp still water design subwoofer are free air. The song was called the art of noise. 💯✌️
Now you have a new subscriber
Be great if you could make a concrete speaker box sealed together with resin.. Always wanted to try it myself but never got round to it.
LoL
The window is out in the screened in covered porch. It'll give some bass to the outside speakers there. Win win. Speakers doing double duty.
Time alignment is going to be fun. Great video cuz. And thanks for giving me another bonkers idea to try out.
