@Raxxanterax, another way to speed up finding the Black Mushroom is to know that the room with the mushroom does not spawn, when the exit to Cathedral Level 2 has a spiral staircase. So if you find the exit to Cathedral Level 2 and it has the spiral staircase you can immediately leave, and you don't need to search any further on that level. Your first two tries show very well, what I mean. In both cases there was that exit tile, I mean. On your third try there was that »normal« straight exit tile.
+1 to Jared For me, the sign is 'closed square map layout' The room must have two enters and can only be located in the "closed square" map layout. I couldn't find a layout with more than 1 closed square, and it's only it's south corner (bottom). So whatever you start at, you go "down".

I was literally just typing up a comment that Chiltara is 100% confirmed NOT to carry the Gibbering Gemstone on Xbox when my girlfriend finally got one to drop. 273 Chiltaras killed for a single GGemstone on Xbox. That's way more effort than we plan to invest in any future challenges in the game if they become even more difficult. We love a challenge, but pure RNG like this is simply uninteresting, a waste of time and honestly was a big turn off just now as to whether or not we even want to keep playing a game that has such mechanics. We have been playing for about a month now and your guides have helped a ton so cheers for that.
If you are on console you only need to get the Plan, Black Mushroom, Wirt's Bell, and the Gibbering Gemstone. You don't need to get either Leoric's Shinbone or the Liquid Rainbow. Not sure why that is, but it does make crafting the Staff of Herding a bit easier on console
thanks so much for saying so. i farmed mysterious chests for rainbow for over an hour and after finding several mysterious chests with zero rainbows i was starting to question my sanity.
also on console, when the host leaves a game, the remaining players are dropped into a new game, so the multi-game farming trick Rax describes for the Gemstone won't work.
The Mrs and I are casual Diablo players and we rely on content creators to really get a grip of things when an update or new season happens etc (things are moving far, far faster than they used to in the first two Diablo games).I just want to say that I honestly believe that your channel is the best for all things Diablo is concerned. You're always on point, explain anything that needs attention in detail and avoid spending time on things that do not. Presenting your content in a friendly manner is always a big bonus too. I hope you keep your channel at this high level, don't give in into things that other UA-camrs unfortunately have. Thank you for your content and help. I'll be honest it's kind of cool that they figured out a way to work in this item into a season. I know finding the parts can be a little grindy because they don't always spawn but being the last big season before the release of Diablo 4 it's cool to see the staff of herding have a purpose again.
There’s really nothing “cool” about how they made this item work with the season. You just craft it, then delete it. Nothing about the staff’s identity is utilized in any way after sacrificing it. I’d go as far as saying it’s a LAZY way to work this item into the season.

Great guide Raxx. Just to add unless I missed it....there is a rare portrait frame (rainbow) that you get for killing Prince William if you use the staff of herding to open Whimsyshire...if you don't have it you may want to farm for it before using the staff at the altar

I farmed that stupid gem for hours until someone told me the secret. I ran through story mode to get to the cave. It took me about an hour and a half, but the gem was there the third time I went into the cave.
@@kungfuutah I did the story mode trick as well - icefall caves still spawned occasionally which was a bit annoying and it took me another two or three hours after that to get the gem to drop. All in all I believe I wasted seven hours just trying to get this one stupid little gem.

For starters, let me say that your videos, Raxx, are the only ones I watch if I decide to play Diablo 3. You do the best guides and this is no exception. I am an occasional D3 player, usually log in at the beginning of a season, get the Guardian achi and that's me done. I just decided to try season 28 a few days ago and have long way to go before I unlock the whole Altar. Nevertheless, stumbled across your vid and decided to do the hard part - get the Staff of Herding. Bought the Wirt's Bell, next decided to go for Leoric's Shinbone - boom, first try it was there! Thought to myself, this is easy. Tried for the pattern on T16 around 10 times, no luck. Saw in the vid that other parts can be done on normal, started grinding. Act 1, 2, 3..rince and repeat. Must have done around 15 resets before Liquid Rainbow dropped. Many more tries later I finally stumbled across the "special" room in the cathedral (started to think it doesn`t exist). There was the mushroom. Gibbering Gemstone took me another 15 tries after that (around 40 in total). Feels like Ice Falls and Caverns of Frost ratio was 70:30, at least for me. Never mind, I finally got the right Chiltara that dropped the Gemstone. All the ingredients present, just the pattern now. Back to T16 I go and let the grind resume. Not sure how many tries it took me, but around 1.5h in total. No pattern. It was at this point that I was getting quite annoyed and before I gave up for the night, a bright shiny thought struck my mind - let me check if I don`t already have the pattern! I did - it was sitting right there with my blacksmith and laughing at me...So for all the other noobs out there, like myself, if you`ve played the game for a while and done some bounties, before you go for the Staff of Herding, check your BS first.

Dude much respect Raxx youve done so much for the community over the years and I cant wait for D4 i came back to D3 for this final season before D4 just finished farming the stuff for the staff started at 4:32 so about 4 hours got the plans in 4 tries, the black mushroom one try, the rainbow bottle took 23 tries, Gibbering 47 tries and got it on the 23rd cav now I just wait for monday for the cache
For those still farming the gibbering Gemstone. I spent most of my Diablo time for 5 days trying to get this rare item. I killed Chiltara at least 100 times. But I finally got it to drop this morning. For those who haven't found it yet, take heart!!

Thanks Raxx, really useful to have this refresher. It's changed a quite a bit since the last time I farmed up the SoH. I just did some practice runs. Black Mushroom on 3rd attempt, Gibbering Gemstone on my FIRST, on a "Clear CoF 2nd Level" quest. So now I've condemned myself to hours of grinding in S28 when it really matters. Aaagh. Also picked up my 7th primal of the season and hit P900 with my Karlei/Strafe DH. I'm a very casual and intermittent player but I'm stoked for S28.
If you're farming for the gibbering gemstone on wizard, I highly recommend getting the aether walker, cosmic strand, pride's fall and a little bit of everything that reduces resource cost on you. Being able to spam teleport all the way will make the process so much more painless and quick.
Great guide: Also here is an extra tip: when leaving a game, it's faster to port to town then leave game (5 to 6 sec), rather than leave game from a map (10 sec). This adds up over time.
For everyone reading this as a guide for the staff in Season 30 then everything about it is still relevant. The only difference is they have increased the drop chance on the gibbering gemstone to something like 20% now, rather than the ridiculous low rate it spawned previously. I got mine in 4 runs. In Season 28 I did over 200 - I know, I kept track. Great guide as well - thanks for doing this.

For the gemstone, just look up the cave locations on the map, easy to find on the fandom wiki. It also shares spawns with other points of interest, like the catapults, shrines and sometimes just holes in the ground. You can see on the edge of the screen if that area is not a cave entrance type rocky part, move to the next.

Couple notes here for folks: 1) The IMO the Shinbone and mushroom are great to check for after doing bounties. You will be there anyway. just drop by. 2) If you are looking for the plan, try throwing on a nagel ring. 39% added magic find and the plans are legendary (this worked for my RNG after running 15 times on T6 with no ring on). 3) invite the group if you get the shinbone or mushroom. it's just nice. 4) THe gemstone was the worst. I just did that solo.
staff of herding is for opening whimsyshire, not the cow level😁 & this is for the console players: for console players it‘s actually not that hard cause we apart from the plan itself, we only have 3 items to collect: - Plan itself (Act 4 - Izual) - Black mushroom (Act 1 - Cathedral 1) - Wirts Bell (Act 2 - Squirt the Peddler) - Gibbering Gemstone (Act 3 - Fields of Slaughter - Caverns of Frost) I‘ve done it in 2 hours while besides searching for the parts searching for the Falcon Wings and watching a netflix series, so not that big of a deal :)
Oh and he's so clear, doesn't talk slow or constantly repeat himself.. I've never once been confused by his descriptions either - what a god send his content is!

@@puru721 or better yet, let me ask you this. When you finish a run with Baal and wanna continue to farm Baal, what do you do? Towards the end of the day, it’s the same thing. You quit and start over the new game and continue to farm Baal. Sure, you’re farming Baal for a different reason. But you’re still quitting and start over to grind and farm. That was my point. I wasn’t making fun or poking at d2. Am a fan of d2 more than d3 and I do believe that d3 isn’t a diablo game. But I like both for different reasons. Don’t be triggered.

I did the Staff of Herding years ago, and I very much remember that grind; it was so awful. When reading about S28, and the altar, I was super excited until I saw Herding on the sacrifice list and a swore out loud. This season is proof that the Devs either don't play D3 or are sadists.
Excellent guide, virtually every aspect covered, still doesn't make this any less annoying but the guide is super helpful, maybe the devs make some of these drop rates more reasonable.
To anyone who thinks this will take way too long (I did, and almost wanted to quit it) I still wanted to atleast try it, and see how far I could go before giving up. This is not a flex but more a reinsurance that is can be done fast. Blizz might have upped the chance for these items to drop. These are the tries I did for the items. The plan: 20 tries. The Mushroom: 10 tries. The Shinebone: 16 tries. I somehow already had the liquid rainbow, so I was ahead before I even knew it. The Gibbering Gemstone: 7 tries! I know some might not believe my luck but I would bet that after 4 months Blizz might have increased the droprate for these items. So if you haven't done this, do try it. You might get lucky as me or find out that blizz increase the droprate. And thanks Raxx. This guide was superb. I didn't have a group, but this was still super easy to follow.
i believe for the liquid rainbow there is a faster search for it when you look on campaign mode since you start right beside the alcove and that 1st alcove you were going to did you ever have it spawn as mysterious cave because i thought that second alcove was a different cave

Also, while in Cathedral Level I, I found the special room with the 2 doors like you said and there was nothing. But since I had just started exploring the area, I continued and found yet another special looking room and this time I found it. Just thought I would pass that along. Hey Rex, just a quick question. I noticed you said change to Normal mode before you go Kill Chiltara in the COF. Is it better to do it on normal? Is there a better drop rate compared to T1 or Higher? Just curious. I have ran it several dozen times and I have not gotten lucky yet. I did not know if the level difficulty made her drop the Gibbering Gemstone. With Gibbering Gemstone, I've always found it far easier to just reload until the bounty for Chiltara shows up. By having four people soloing you get 4x the reloads, which makes it a lot faster to get the her to spawn because there's less loading and no timeouts (check in town). When one of you get that bounty, they invite everyone else.

But you aren't looking at this correctly. 4 people hunting, there are 4 different conditions 2 out of the 4 are reset instantly the other 2 are invite conditions. With just 3 people hunting like this we had cavern or chiltara every single reset. Made this a breeze.

I think they buffed the drop rate. I remember doing this twice on two separate regions and it took days and days of farming. I did this during this season twice on two different regions. First one I did it in about 30 min to get all the materials. Second time around it took about an hour. I remember the Cavern of Frost being the hardest drop but both times I got it on the first try.
Thanks for the vid. After watching this I just casually did these tasks while progressing through the season and by the time I got to the staff requirement on the altar all I was needing was the gemstone and did caverns of frost and got it! Didn't feel like a grind at all.
Really appreciate the video, very informative and helpful, not to mention I was able to get some clan mates their mushrooms, shin bone and liquid rainbow. Still farming gibbering gemstone at the time of commenting but found the rest in under 10 minutes.
After watching this video, it only took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to find *all* the parts. Solo. T6. First try on the plan and the mushroom. Gibbering took the longest, about 20 runs. Still, this guide made it a breeze for me. Thanks!

I came back for the final season after playing D4 Beta and needing my ARPG fix. It's been 4 years since I've played D3. Fantastic final season before D4 release. Unlocking the seals has been rewarding and it hasn't been fast. The two cock blockers have been the Ancient Puzzle Ring and this stupid Gemstone. After 6 hours of farming over 2 days, the gemstone finally dropped. For those that are still trying to get it, have faith, it will drop eventually. @Raxxanterax: Great content! Found you via Asmon. Over the past few weeks I probably watched 8 hours of your content and it helped me refamiliarize my way back into D3. What is Augmentation? Answered. Echoing Nightmares? Done. Thank you!
I made the staff about 10 seasons ago. Yeah, Chitara was a royal PITA. I used all of these tricks, but did it all solo. I also spent an entire off season using it to get Portrait, which I never did! Ha. Yeah tho, that Gibbering Gemstone...phew. Good thing is isn't required at the Altar until very late in the season for casuals like me. So I can wait and do it later. YMMV, good luck.
For faster farming Gibberish Gemstone: Farming in campaign mode lets Cilltara always spawn in Forst Caves, so one random factor less, since Icefall could spawn. And the Gemstone still is no save drop from Cilltara. Also there is redit rumor about better dropchance in adventure T7.

Was following the guide here and I actually got the liquid rainbow out of a resplendent chest on the first floor of the mysterious cave. It was the only item that dropped from it, but make sure that you’re opening every resplendent chest as well

Thit fkn gemstone by far is the third hardest to find object in the game after cosmic wings and rainbow portrait of course (i was not able to get them so far after all the years spent in the game)... Last time with Staff of herding i spent two months farming that gibbering bastard and Chaltara haunted me in nightmares 😁 that was a total pain in the ass 🔥 Adding it to the season will definitely be a curse to someone ...( P.s. 300+ opened boxes and still no signs of wings ...(
For anyone checking this guide in S30 or beyond, if you're on console just know that you only need the Black Mushroom, Wirt's Bell, and the Gibbering Gemstone. And the plans of course. No Shinbone or Rainbow.
Back in the day you had to make the staff AND upgrade it for each difficulty mode you wanted to use it in. I still have the Infernal Staff of Herding, which was required to access whimsyshire in the brutal inferno mode, while it was still in game. You can no longer make this thing. I'm never deleting it.
Appreciate the guide, it's not my first rodeo with it but it'll hopefully be the last! Just wish if they're gonna change one thing from the PTR, it's the pure RNG items required.
Excellent guide. I think you will have more frustration trying to explain to people what they need to do in the party, than actually farming it. Unless you are all in voice chat together, I would not try to coordinate too much and try to get people to farm in a specific way. It is a lot more efficient, but coordination is not easy with strangers who never party up.

I missed it in S28 first time round but attacked it this season. I found all of it surprisingly easy, I've unlocked everything. I had the staff to do today, didn't have any pieces yet, but found everything within about 45 minutes. 2nd fireplace, 2 mushroom room, 4th or 5th oasis for a mysterious cave event that had the chest on the first visit. Chiltara was the pain, got caverns about 50% of the time, 4th or 5th cavern clear I got it. Izzy dropped pattern on 3rd go. Two of the six primals I needed I ended up crafting. We need guardian pieces and they're cheap to craft, crafting in batches of 10 I snagged two primal bracers. They rolled terribly so it was easy to salvage them. I would be proud that I'm rank 22 necro after never placing higher than 500 in a season but I know a good deal of my competition is playing D4, and the season is only a week old. Now the grind to finish out my gear. Can do a 135 fairly easily, but I'm still needing several ancient pieces and a couple better than what I have, so still plenty of room. 135 is the highest I've been by 10 levels so far, I'm putting that down to being the easiest season ever.

Another thing I found with the Mysterious Cave that i'm not sure was touched on: If you find the entrance to the Ruined Cistern, often times the 2nd Mysterious Cave entrance will be *Northward* on the map. Every other time, Mysterious Cave is on the south side. It seems to be consistently to the North and Right side of the map. However, keep in mind that the Cave Entrance will still always be going south. Hope this helps. Never miss that 2nd cave!

thanks so much for saying so. i farmed mysterious chests for rainbow for over an hour and after finding several mysterious chests with zero rainbows i was starting to question my sanity.
also on console, when the host leaves a game, the remaining players are dropped into a new game, so the multi-game farming trick Rax describes for the Gemstone won't work.
The Mrs and I are casual Diablo players and we rely on content creators to really get a grip of things when an update or new season happens etc (things are moving far, far faster than they used to in the first two Diablo games).I just want to say that I honestly believe that your channel is the best for all things Diablo is concerned. You're always on point, explain anything that needs attention in detail and avoid spending time on things that do not. Presenting your content in a friendly manner is always a big bonus too. I hope you keep your channel at this high level, don't give in into things that other UA-camrs unfortunately have. Thank you for your content and help.

I'll be honest it's kind of cool that they figured out a way to work in this item into a season. I know finding the parts can be a little grindy because they don't always spawn but being the last big season before the release of Diablo 4 it's cool to see the staff of herding have a purpose again.

There’s really nothing “cool” about how they made this item work with the season. You just craft it, then delete it. Nothing about the staff’s identity is utilized in any way after sacrificing it. I’d go as far as saying it’s a LAZY way to work this item into the season.

Great guide Raxx. Just to add unless I missed it....there is a rare portrait frame (rainbow) that you get for killing Prince William if you use the staff of herding to open Whimsyshire...if you don't have it you may want to farm for it before using the staff at the altar

I've been farming Chiltara for five hours in a row now with no gibbering gemstone drop. Great stuff, I'm really enjoying season 28.
I farmed that stupid gem for hours until someone told me the secret. I ran through story mode to get to the cave. It took me about an hour and a half, but the gem was there the third time I went into the cave.
@@kungfuutah I did the story mode trick as well - icefall caves still spawned occasionally which was a bit annoying and it took me another two or three hours after that to get the gem to drop. All in all I believe I wasted seven hours just trying to get this one stupid little gem.
Gemstone clearly took longer than the rest of them combined for me too.

For starters, let me say that your videos, Raxx, are the only ones I watch if I decide to play Diablo 3. You do the best guides and this is no exception. I am an occasional D3 player, usually log in at the beginning of a season, get the Guardian achi and that's me done. I just decided to try season 28 a few days ago and have long way to go before I unlock the whole Altar. Nevertheless, stumbled across your vid and decided to do the hard part - get the Staff of Herding. Bought the Wirt's Bell, next decided to go for Leoric's Shinbone - boom, first try it was there! Thought to myself, this is easy. Tried for the pattern on T16 around 10 times, no luck. Saw in the vid that other parts can be done on normal, started grinding. Act 1, 2, 3..rince and repeat. Must have done around 15 resets before Liquid Rainbow dropped. Many more tries later I finally stumbled across the "special" room in the cathedral (started to think it doesn`t exist). There was the mushroom. Gibbering Gemstone took me another 15 tries after that (around 40 in total). Feels like Ice Falls and Caverns of Frost ratio was 70:30, at least for me. Never mind, I finally got the right Chiltara that dropped the Gemstone. All the ingredients present, just the pattern now. Back to T16 I go and let the grind resume. Not sure how many tries it took me, but around 1.5h in total. No pattern. It was at this point that I was getting quite annoyed and before I gave up for the night, a bright shiny thought struck my mind - let me check if I don`t already have the pattern! I did - it was sitting right there with my blacksmith and laughing at me...So for all the other noobs out there, like myself, if you`ve played the game for a while and done some bounties, before you go for the Staff of Herding, check your BS first.

Dude much respect Raxx youve done so much for the community over the years and I cant wait for D4 i came back to D3 for this final season before D4 just finished farming the stuff for the staff started at 4:32 so about 4 hours got the plans in 4 tries, the black mushroom one try, the rainbow bottle took 23 tries, Gibbering 47 tries and got it on the 23rd cav now I just wait for monday for the cache
For those still farming the gibbering Gemstone. I spent most of my Diablo time for 5 days trying to get this rare item. I killed Chiltara at least 100 times. But I finally got it to drop this morning. For those who haven't found it yet, take heart!!

I just did some practice runs. Black Mushroom on 3rd attempt, Gibbering Gemstone on my FIRST, on a "Clear CoF 2nd Level" quest. So now I've condemned myself to hours of grinding in S28 when it really matters. Aaagh.
Also picked up my 7th primal of the season and hit P900 with my Karlei/Strafe DH. I'm a very casual and intermittent player but I'm stoked for S28.
If you're farming for the gibbering gemstone on wizard, I highly recommend getting the aether walker, cosmic strand, pride's fall and a little bit of everything that reduces resource cost on you. Being able to spam teleport all the way will make the process so much more painless and quick.
Great guide: Also here is an extra tip: when leaving a game, it's faster to port to town then leave game (5 to 6 sec), rather than leave game from a map (10 sec). This adds up over time.

For everyone reading this as a guide for the staff in Season 30 then everything about it is still relevant. The only difference is they have increased the drop chance on the gibbering gemstone to something like 20% now, rather than the ridiculous low rate it spawned previously. I got mine in 4 runs. In Season 28 I did over 200 - I know, I kept track. Great guide as well - thanks for doing this.

For the gemstone, just look up the cave locations on the map, easy to find on the fandom wiki. It also shares spawns with other points of interest, like the catapults, shrines and sometimes just holes in the ground. You can see on the edge of the screen if that area is not a cave entrance type rocky part, move to the next.

Couple notes here for folks: 1) The IMO the Shinbone and mushroom are great to check for after doing bounties. You will be there anyway. just drop by. 2) If you are looking for the plan, try throwing on a nagel ring. 39% added magic find and the plans are legendary (this worked for my RNG after running 15 times on T6 with no ring on). 3) invite the group if you get the shinbone or mushroom. it's just nice. 4) THe gemstone was the worst. I just did that solo.
This guide was invaluable, I managed to farm it all solo in under an hour without ever doing it before.

& this is for the console players: for console players it‘s actually not that hard cause we apart from the plan itself, we only have 3 items to collect:
- Plan itself (Act 4 - Izual)
- Black mushroom (Act 1 - Cathedral 1)
- Wirts Bell (Act 2 - Squirt the Peddler)
- Gibbering Gemstone (Act 3 - Fields of Slaughter - Caverns of Frost)
I‘ve done it in 2 hours while besides searching for the parts searching for the Falcon Wings and watching a netflix series, so not that big of a deal :)

You quit and start over the new game and continue to farm Baal. Sure, you’re farming Baal for a different reason. But you’re still quitting and start over to grind and farm. That was my point. I wasn’t making fun or poking at d2. Am a fan of d2 more than d3 and I do believe that d3 isn’t a diablo game. But I like both for different reasons. Don’t be triggered.

Thanks Raxx. 3 levels of RNG on the gemstone make it for a miserable experience, but you made it as easy as it can be.
I did the Staff of Herding years ago, and I very much remember that grind; it was so awful. When reading about S28, and the altar, I was super excited until I saw Herding on the sacrifice list and a swore out loud. This season is proof that the Devs either don't play D3 or are sadists.
It's a final "fuck you" to the players.

To anyone who thinks this will take way too long (I did, and almost wanted to quit it) I still wanted to atleast try it, and see how far I could go before giving up. This is not a flex but more a reinsurance that is can be done fast. Blizz might have upped the chance for these items to drop. These are the tries I did for the items.
The plan: 20 tries.
The Mushroom: 10 tries.
The Shinebone: 16 tries.
I somehow already had the liquid rainbow, so I was ahead before I even knew it.
The Gibbering Gemstone: 7 tries!
I know some might not believe my luck but I would bet that after 4 months Blizz might have increased the droprate for these items.
So if you haven't done this, do try it. You might get lucky as me or find out that blizz increase the droprate.
And thanks Raxx. This guide was superb. I didn't have a group, but this was still super easy to follow.
i believe for the liquid rainbow there is a faster search for it when you look on campaign mode since you start right beside the alcove and that 1st alcove you were going to did you ever have it spawn as mysterious cave because i thought that second alcove was a different cave
You have to get to that point in the campaign, that will taka a bit but yeah when you're there its faster.
Thanks for your help! Because i feel compelled to open every chest I see, I Just found Liquid Rainbow on 1st level in a resplendent chest. Also, while in Cathedral Level I, I found the special room with the 2 doors like you said and there was nothing. But since I had just started exploring the area, I continued and found yet another special looking room and this time I found it. Just thought I would pass that along. Been playing Diablo since the 90's and have been watching you now for years. Thanks for all you do!
Hey Rex, just a quick question. I noticed you said change to Normal mode before you go Kill Chiltara in the COF. Is it better to do it on normal? Is there a better drop rate compared to T1 or Higher?
Just curious. I have ran it several dozen times and I have not gotten lucky yet. I did not know if the level difficulty made her drop the Gibbering Gemstone.

With Gibbering Gemstone, I've always found it far easier to just reload until the bounty for Chiltara shows up. By having four people soloing you get 4x the reloads, which makes it a lot faster to get the her to spawn because there's less loading and no timeouts (check in town). When one of you get that bounty, they invite everyone else.
u can literally spend an hour without that rare bounty showing up... in fact i found the gibbering gem this season without ONCE seeing that bounty.

But you aren't looking at this correctly. 4 people hunting, there are 4 different conditions 2 out of the 4 are reset instantly the other 2 are invite conditions. With just 3 people hunting like this we had cavern or chiltara every single reset. Made this a breeze.

I think they buffed the drop rate. I remember doing this twice on two separate regions and it took days and days of farming. I did this during this season twice on two different regions. First one I did it in about 30 min to get all the materials. Second time around it took about an hour. I remember the Cavern of Frost being the hardest drop but both times I got it on the first try.

Thanks for the vid. After watching this I just casually did these tasks while progressing through the season and by the time I got to the staff requirement on the altar all I was needing was the gemstone and did caverns of frost and got it! Didn't feel like a grind at all.

After watching this video, it only took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to find *all* the parts. Solo. T6. First try on the plan and the mushroom. Gibbering took the longest, about 20 runs. Still, this guide made it a breeze for me. Thanks!

I came back for the final season after playing D4 Beta and needing my ARPG fix. It's been 4 years since I've played D3. Fantastic final season before D4 release. Unlocking the seals has been rewarding and it hasn't been fast. The two cock blockers have been the Ancient Puzzle Ring and this stupid Gemstone. After 6 hours of farming over 2 days, the gemstone finally dropped. For those that are still trying to get it, have faith, it will drop eventually. @Raxxanterax: Great content! Found you via Asmon. Over the past few weeks I probably watched 8 hours of your content and it helped me refamiliarize my way back into D3. What is Augmentation? Answered. Echoing Nightmares? Done. Thank you!

I made the staff about 10 seasons ago. Yeah, Chitara was a royal PITA. I used all of these tricks, but did it all solo. I also spent an entire off season using it to get Portrait, which I never did! Ha. Yeah tho, that Gibbering Gemstone...phew. Good thing is isn't required at the Altar until very late in the season for casuals like me. So I can wait and do it later. YMMV, good luck.

For faster farming Gibberish Gemstone: Farming in campaign mode lets Cilltara always spawn in Forst Caves, so one random factor less, since Icefall could spawn. And the Gemstone still is no save drop from Cilltara. Also there is redit rumor about better dropchance in adventure T7.
I ended up doing it solo, didn't take too long, something about your paint skills made it easier on me.

Was following the guide here and I actually got the liquid rainbow out of a resplendent chest on the first floor of the mysterious cave. It was the only item that dropped from it, but make sure that you’re opening every resplendent chest as well

Thit fkn gemstone by far is the third hardest to find object in the game after cosmic wings and rainbow portrait of course (i was not able to get them so far after all the years spent in the game)... Last time with Staff of herding i spent two months farming that gibbering bastard and Chaltara haunted me in nightmares 😁 that was a total pain in the ass 🔥 Adding it to the season will definitely be a curse to someone ...(

On console, this all took me about 30-40 minutes. And only needed half the ingredients. Not sure why, but I'll take it.
For anyone checking this guide in S30 or beyond, if you're on console just know that you only need the Black Mushroom, Wirt's Bell, and the Gibbering Gemstone. And the plans of course. No Shinbone or Rainbow.

Back in the day you had to make the staff AND upgrade it for each difficulty mode you wanted to use it in. I still have the Infernal Staff of Herding, which was required to access whimsyshire in the brutal inferno mode, while it was still in game. You can no longer make this thing. I'm never deleting it.
Appreciate the guide, it's not my first rodeo with it but it'll hopefully be the last! Just wish if they're gonna change one thing from the PTR, it's the pure RNG items required.
Excellent guide. I think you will have more frustration trying to explain to people what they need to do in the party, than actually farming it. Unless you are all in voice chat together, I would not try to coordinate too much and try to get people to farm in a specific way. It is a lot more efficient, but coordination is not easy with strangers who never party up.
Done the cavern around 10-15 times and have yet to even get the boss to spawn, amazing.

I missed it in S28 first time round but attacked it this season. I found all of it surprisingly easy, I've unlocked everything.
I had the staff to do today, didn't have any pieces yet, but found everything within about 45 minutes. 2nd fireplace, 2 mushroom room, 4th or 5th oasis for a mysterious cave event that had the chest on the first visit. Chiltara was the pain, got caverns about 50% of the time, 4th or 5th cavern clear I got it. Izzy dropped pattern on 3rd go.
Two of the six primals I needed I ended up crafting. We need guardian pieces and they're cheap to craft, crafting in batches of 10 I snagged two primal bracers. They rolled terribly so it was easy to salvage them.
I would be proud that I'm rank 22 necro after never placing higher than 500 in a season but I know a good deal of my competition is playing D4, and the season is only a week old.
Now the grind to finish out my gear. Can do a 135 fairly easily, but I'm still needing several ancient pieces and a couple better than what I have, so still plenty of room. 135 is the highest I've been by 10 levels so far, I'm putting that down to being the easiest season ever.
i did the staff of hearding only one time, and watching this video i discovered i was super lucky, because i didnt even know it was hard, i got all itens in the first or second try

I watched 3 episodes of show (45min each) while checking Izual, shin and mushroom at the same time. Got only mushroom :x They drop rates are terrible...
Another thing I found with the Mysterious Cave that i'm not sure was touched on: If you find the entrance to the Ruined Cistern, often times the 2nd Mysterious Cave entrance will be *Northward* on the map. Every other time, Mysterious Cave is on the south side. It seems to be consistently to the North and Right side of the map. However, keep in mind that the Cave Entrance will still always be going south. Hope this helps. Never miss that 2nd cave!
