I’ll be honest watching this video made me feel like I was right there with the pilot, my hands were sweating and my heart started racing, I can’t even imagine how these men felt in that plane as the mechanics started it, they probably didn’t really want to be there but the pressure from the emperor scared them into doing this, I wonder how many men intentionally crashed their planes into the ocean last minute hoping they would survive and not have to nose dive into the ship and await a certain death, thanks for the video man, this is a really powerful piece of history that should not be forgotten.

I know this is a joke, but its also a really good point. I'd say the chances of survival is almost as low even if you did parachute eject. 1. You might just land in the ocean and drown or on an enemy aircraft carrier and get shot up. 2. You succeed landing on a ship or didnt drown, but you will most likely be captured by the enemies and could be subject to torture where you might leak information to the enemy. I am assuming they had to die because they didnt want to give the enemy intel, and dying on impact is the least painful way compared to the alternatives.

I read a good book on the kamikaze, from basic selection, training, through to crunch. Interestingly towards the end there was a young married couple, a pilot actually took his wife with him and they died together. Apparently she wore her wedding dress especially and the ground crew had a major problem stuffing them both into the cockpit. Neither, the book said, survived ...
Those who were drafted as Kamikaze pilots were usually informed few days before they actually fly out to crash their planes so they didn’t even have time to train or anything whatsoever in fact like this video depicts so that they wouldn’t change their mind and all in case. Also everyone was afraid to die of course. My grandfather was selected to be part of Jinpu(Kamikaze) tokkoutai on 20th July 1945. No one in my grandpa’s team including my grandfather absolutely didn’t want to die especially because most of them were around 19 years old. My grandfather was lucky because the day he was supposed to fly out was the day Japan surrendered. He lost most of his comrades expect himself and two of his teammates. Before he passed away, he told me all the stories of his teammates and the last moment he shared with them. Most of them went through quite a few bottles of sake and smoked tons of cigarettes while crying and talking about his family back in their hometown and how much they’re worried about their health and future of siblings and brothers. Some freaked out in the middle of night and screamed “Mom I don’t wanna die yet” and the stories go on. I remember that every time my grandfather talked about this topic, he sobbed and told me that he should’ve died like his friends did.
In the end, wars just make everyone and everything destroyed. Now I live in the states and made amazing friends who really support me from bottom of their heart. We cannot forget that we’re all the same human being at the end of the day. All we need is peace and understanding of each others.
Great story be proud of you grandfather 👏

Fun fact: Japan created a purpose-built kamikaze plane, called the MXY-7 Ohka. It was basically a 2000 pound bomb with a cockpit and wings. Worse part about it was that it wasnt a propeller plane. It was rocket-powered, and often went way too fast for allied anti-air guns to hit.

I’m sure being a kamikaze pilot was usually a blast. I mean, they made a great impact at times. It was rare for them not to fling themselves at a target. They had a a way of seeing eye to eye with the enemy. Granted, they were often buried with work. But, at the end of the day, they could usually clear their minds and relax knowing that they made life difficult for anyone who had to sweep their remains off of the side of the boat.

What it was like to be a kamikaze pilot?
Ans - Not much fun
Thing is, by the later stages of the war, the amount of planes and pilots lost in a conventional attack was often greater then that of a kamikaze attack, the latter of which had higher success rate of hitting their targets.
The issue is it takes time to train pilots. Sending your best and brightest on suicide missions isn't a very logical thing to do.
@@ojjuiceman most of these guys weren't great pilots or had even flown a plane at all until they were recruited. The great pilots had either died or were flying the bombers that carried the human missiles. Flying a bomber itself was almost suicidal though as the US military learnt the most effective defense against a kamikaze attack was to destroy the bombers and, due to the pilot shortage, bombers often didn't have adequate escorts

It’s a very well put together video that tells a story from a very unique perspective. But some of the facts about kamikazes were inaccurate. There were no kamikaze pilots during the attack on pear harbor, as Japan was not desperate and had no reason to waste resources in a war and battle that in their eyes they would win. Kamikazes were a very late war tactic that wouldn’t be seen until that final years of the pacific war. Kamikazes also WERE allowed to return home if their target was not found or if the target was destroyed and the pilot has no available targets to attack. Japan and the emperor knew they were very very valuable assets and would not waste the material on bombing water. Pilots were instructed to come back to Japan or any friendly air base to be used in the next attack where they could be used effectively. Other than those two inaccuracies it was a very interesting and well made video.

UA-camr that needs to sleep: Oh my, here we go again.
When I was in elementary school back in the mid 70's. I remember the teacher played a movie that was about WWII. It showed a Japanese destroyer ship that had a single file line of teenage boys 17-18 years old. There were hundreds, it looked like. All in line waiting to walk down this staircase that was welded to the hull of the ship. It went from an area on the deck towards the bow (front) of the ship. There was a big door on the side of the ship that was almost at the water line level. At this opening in the side of the ship is where the staircase landing was. A type of platform and a couple of guys would load a floating torpedo into the water. It had a steering wheel in the front and a metal seat on top the torpedo. The steering was just a steel rod that went straight down through the torpedo housing to a small rudder. There was another setup just like that at the rear of the torpedo. So, these young boys would take a seat, two people on one torpedo. Their job was to steer that torpedo once the thruster was ignited into the target ! I was probably in 5th or 6th grade when I seen that, never will I forget it. I was thinking could you imagine you and either the guy in front of you or behind you is going to be your suicide partner basically ! Everyone just waiting their turn going down those stairs to die ! That was the Japanese version of a guided torpedo! Back then everyone was worried about nuclear attack too.
Fun fact: Becoming a kamikaze pilot was a “Once in a lifetime opportunity”.
