As a Finn myself, I feel the need to point out a certain detail. I believe I've heard versions of the story where Simo got back up, shot and killed the Soviet who'd nailed him, before later collapsing himself.
However, I don't find that in most accounts of that event. That little detail might be just rumors or a small piece of exaggeration from the Finnish.
Although getting shot and surviving is indeed true.

@@TheEvertw Simo had never used a scope, and preferred to use his own hunting rifle. He knew the rifle well, he mastered it, never had mechanical issues, or loading malfunctions. So why take a worse rifle when you can use your trustworthy one? Also, using a scope limits your visibility to see around you. You are mainly focused to only what you can see through the scope, but with iron sights you have almost normal vision. You don't get caught to only one target but can easily scan what is going on elsewhere.

As someone who lives in Finland I will also say that many people who aren't used to the snow have difficulty seeing because of how much light it reflects. The cant risk wearing sunglasses because of the way they reflect the light ( it would be a dead give-aways to the enemy). I guess Fins just get used to the extreme brightness and grow to be able to see through it
