"Pacific Rim" showed that you can have big monsters fighting giant robots and have it be an amazing movie (i thought is was going to be stupid- i was very wrong)..."Godzillz x Kong", on the other hand, looks like a 10 year old wrote and shot it (Godzilla with "pink" spikes, and looking like he could run a marathon?...)...still think, "King of the Monsters" is the best of the franchise (the visual effects/creature design are worth the price of admission alone)...

Personally I want a lot more human elements. Metaphors of loss, etc. Godzilla 2014 is my favorite American Godzilla.
The issue is: the zilla verse can't write a person to save their life. So it's probably better to remove the people from this franchise. Lol

What I can't get over is how the tech from 2014 godzilla jumped 100 years from movie to movie.....and how spilling water on a control panel fucks up mecha godzilla. Smh.

TBH you don't go to a Godzilla film for a thespian arc.
Of course if you go into a movie expecting a masterpiece in film making you're going to hate it. These movies are for ppl who just want to watch giant monsters beat each other up. My problem with these types of movies is when they have ppl in them. For some reason Hollywood doesn't understand that we don't want humans in our monster movies. If you're going to have them, use them sparingly.
Ok but then we’re just left with a monkey that can’t talk and a lizard that stomps on people. That’s an incredibly infulfilling movie IMO. Like, I’d rather just stay home and play video games with my friends for two hours.

"Monsters smashing each other, buildings toppling." Thats what the Monsterverse fans want in these movies Jay, they want to see their fan favorite monsters fight other monsters around the world. They want to see famous buildings get destroyed, More importantly, what the fans really want is chaos, i mean if you are not a fan then why bother watching the movie or giving the movie a two star review? Plus i find this movie is better than The Meg 2.

She was asked to the film for a purpose, and she gives her honest review, but with that Saud, she knew it wasn't for her, and brought someone on to even that out.
Every movie isn't for everyone. For that, we need tk be real and honest and say hey I hated it lol, but I know people who loved it as well. People not liking a movie doesn't make it bad at all, it means it's not for your ideals and entertainment . There are movies that absolutely suck all around, but this isn't one of those. I am not a fan of these films, but damn my sons love it, my wife loves them all, and that's honest. Ask me, I'll probably say the same as Jay, but ask my family they'd go with him. It's all about the fans and having the intelligence to knkw we all have what we like, and know if we don't like it , don't take it from others.

I am not into Godzilla or Kong films either. However, the one exception to this was the recent phenomenal film "Godzilla Minus One". That film did an excellent job of telling a compelling human story, along with showing a lot of well choreographed bombastic action. The American made Godzilla films have human character you could care less about. The Japanese made "Godzilla Minus Zero" really had a lot of heart.
That movie is so good, I can't watch the American movies anymore

As a godzilla fan I'd say this movie is definitely more for the fans and probably not for other audiences. In my honest opinion this movie was definitely a 8-9/10. Just kinda sad that the Tiamat fight scene was so short and easy as opposed to how they showed the fight in the comic. 😭 but overall the movie was definitely what fans were asking for a lot. More monster scenes, less human intervention, more monster fights, new monsters, and more lore reveal. Also it was nice of them to bring back mothra with more on screen moments and a actual role. The references with the iwi tribe ppl being able to talk telepathically like the original films with other tribes was a very subtle and a great detail (something only og fans would know).

Strike one, Snarky Jay isn't into Godzilla movies, so that defeats the purpose of even going to watch it in the first place. My advice, Snarky Jay should check out Godzilla Minus One and Shin Godzilla, and I promise you Snarky, you will change your mind at least about these two great Godzilla movies. Peace.
Over half of shin Godzilla was a snooze fest especially the whole politics thing just yapping non stop
Being a die hard life long Godzilla fan myself, I too give it an 8/10 but only because Rodan and Ghidorah didn't make a comeback the way they would have back during the Showa Era movies (1954-1983) Because the thing is, and I say this respectfully, you gotta be a Godzilla fan in order to get how and why the plot of GXK panned out the way it did. Godzilla and Kong have been rivals at each other's throats since 1962, and only in GVK did they really grow mutual respect for each other after obliterating Mechagodzilla. Mind you, I acknowledge that this is a Legendary Pictures Godzilla movie, not Studio Toho, (Studio Toho being infinitely better) as it would be comparing apples and oranges trying to compare LP to ST, but over all, GXK was a fantastic movie as they did a pretty good job at recapturing the overall energy of the monsters vs monsters beating the shit out of each other as well as the monsters' comedic sides like what we see in the old films. That's my take, and of course, to each their own. Lol.

GxK lovers: are the type of people who loves the song because it sounds good and they vibe to it and have fun, dance, and sing.
GxK haters: are the type of people who hates on the song because they try so hard to find the message of the lyrics.
You people need to get a life and have some fun. Cause this movie is only made for one thing which is ENTERTAINMENT!!

I have to say both reviews are exactly what I expected based on the trailers and being a lifelong Godzilla fan. I also like that Snarky went with a Chinese dragon dress for her Godzilla review. There's a giant monster fan in there somewhere!
Sorry this film didn’t do it for you Jay. Least you gave it a shot. Yeah, there’s two sides to the Gojira franchise: the more serious, grounded entries like the original 54 film and more recently Minus One, and of course the more lighthearted, goofier entries which this clearly tried to emulate. I personally do like both sides of it but I will say execution definitely matters in the end.

Saw it last night. Ive been a Godzilla fan and anything kaiju related media loke Ultraman or Gamera since i was 5 or 6 years old. GxK feels EXACTLY what i want in a modern day kaiju film. This should be the mold for more Godzilla films and kaiju films on reality. I have this movie a 10/10. Its the best Film in the monsterverse.

This movie had everything that a monster movie is to have. No real story, very little dialogue, and huge monsters destroying everything. The special effects were incredible.

As a Godzilla fan myself (preferably the Japanese ones), I have very much respect for your brutally honest thoughts on this. Because for me, I prefer someone to say their honest thoughts on a movie like this immediately, over someone lying about being into it & disappointing me later down the road by barely admitting they're not into movies like this.

I had just seen Godzilla Minus One right before I saw the trailer for this and it was kind of embarrassing how ridiculous this was. The shock of coming out of such a serious and dark Godzilla film to the goofiest trailer possible was rough. Godzilla movies definitely had a silly kids' movie phase so I guess this fits the same way those did.
I’m gonna end up having to watch Minus One. I’ve heard too many good things about it at this point.
And why is that a bad thing
Godzilla isn't a one size fits all character. The 1953 movie was serious. The movies in the 60s and 70s were like Saturday morning cartoons. Then the pendulum swung to a more serious tone in the 80s and 90s. I like all versions except the 1998 Iguana Godzilla.
you nailed it. From the early 60s until 1985, we had PLENTY of goofy Godzilla. I REALLY am not on board for seeing more of it that. As a kid, sure it's fun, but as an adult...the concept of Godzilla make SO much more sense and is SO much more interesting than just some monster stomping around. The same thing happened to Jurassic Park--once they started making action movies out of it, it killed what made the concept so good. It needed to stay sci-fi/horror.

"Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is one of the only movies I've ever walked out on. I got up to go to the bathroom, realized I didn't care about anything that was happening on-screen, and got on with my life. So I haven't bothered with any of these films since.

This was What the fans wanted. I've been a fan of Godzilla and Kong since I was 5 years old(I'm 54).It was great. You go to see Godzilla for the Kaiju fights. The dragon top is a nice touch. As you’ve pointed out many times, not everyone has to like everything exactly the same. What you didn’t care for is just what many Kaiju fans long for - more monsters and less people. Adrian gives more Godzilla and Kong fans a great take as a fellow fan and you give us your honest opinion. You don’t laugh at us or mock us, so if any more haters show up, know that they just can’t handle the truth, which is what you’re sharing. Sorry it wasn’t for you, but thanks of keeping it real fun.😊

You know, hateful videos usually get a lot more views than ones that just say nice things. So keep doing what you're doing, it's fun 😁But I confess that after your review, I really want to watch it! It's exactly how a Godzilla movie should be! If I want to watch a drama, I'm not going to the movies to see a giant monster movie!
For non-Godzilla fans, I would recommend the original 1955 Gojira with subtitles, not its English dub counterpart. And Godzilla Minus One. Those are the best Godzilla movies to introduce people. Sadly Shin Godzilla is particularly made for people who understand the Japanese culture, and thus it's harder to get into. Otherwise, I'd add that to the list.
Not a huge fan of Godzilla/Kong fan, but I felt it was a decent "popcorn flick" I grew up watching 80's/90's no-plot action movies so I have a degree of appreciation for mindless action. Not that I typically review, but 5 of 10 for me. Definitely understand your perspective though. If it's not your thing, it's not your thing.

I have not seen it of course but I have been a fan of Godzilla since before you guys were born watching the old-time movies on afternoon movie shows when I was a kid(my babysitter) I think I will like it. Who watches Godzilla for the human acting and story, it is the destruction baby!!!
Just like you Jay, I never got into the kaiju genre. I don't know why. When I was young I did watch Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla and...that was about it. Never got into Kong or Godzilla...

I personally love Godzilla. While I am not in LOVE with the American version, I can still appreciate them for kaiju movies. I can’t wait to see this one, though I still want to see Godzilla Minus One more. Thanks for your honest opinion, Snarkyjay!

Looking forward to the movie. I just hope that I don't run into that same scenario where the person beside me won't stop talking lol.
Dude. I hope not, because that lady had me so irritated.
I liked the opening part of the movie with Kong, but really nothing else. By the time the lazy screenwriting auto-magically placed a convenient cyber-arm with healing power that just so happened to be nearby, and just so happened to perfectly fit over the part of Kong’s arm that just so happened to be injured, I was done and wishing I could watch _Pacific Rim_ instead.
The CGI doesn't look as good as it did in the previous films.
I'm a Godzilla fan and I didn't particularly like it either. The villain was disappointing, Evolved Godzilla was kinda pointless, Mothra was kinda wasted in my opinion, and the movie just honestly felt like it wanted to be over. Godzilla vs Kong felt like it was on fast forward to the monster battles, but GXK felt like it was on fast forward the entire movie... Including the monster battles.
Have you seen the Godzilla from the showa era? It might numb your brain of how dumb that is but yet it was unforgetable. I still remember exactly how Godzilla performs the tail-slide kick and till this day, it makes me laugh.
I just fast forwarded all the human scenes and just watched monsters beat the crap out of each other and i wasn't disappointed.
The trailers looked awesome. It gave those crazy Showa-era vibes.
Anyway, I'll watch the film next week. I'll decide then.

I saw the original Godzilla and Kong movies and probably 15 movies with Godzilla fighting every monster in the universe. They are supposed to be dumb. I averaged both reviews and got 10/20. I will save time an money and pass on this. I love to hear you rant and curse as you review. Keep up the good work!

I'm a Godzilla nerd going back to grade school, and it saddens me to say that I haven't really enjoyed any of the MonsterVerse G-movies so far (though I did like Kong: Skull Island and the streaming show Monarch). A big drawback for me in the trailers was the seeming lack of any iconic monsters other than GxK themselves -- I'm of the opinion that even the Japanese films haven't managed to create a truly iconic monster since 1988 or so.

I went to the first Godzilla vs Kong more than once in theaters. This one however I left feeling I can wait til it streams to watch again. If" I watch again..

I was gonna bash and rage on our girl, but after seeing the movie…she’s spot on. The movie is disappointing, and only forgivable because it is Godzilla. You can tell the strategy for this movie was to maximize toy sales, not deliver a strong movie. There were some cool scenes, it’s good to watch with friends, I likely won’t watch this again.

Since we now know that there are more "Kongs" (I guess they're called) out there, why was there nobody in that room King Kong went into in the previous movie? They should've at least left a note on the door saying something like, "Our princess is in another castle. LOL! Actually, we all relocated. Just walk a few hundred feet, and you'll find us. If you see giant balls of fur, you're close. Your neighborhood besties, Kongs."
