This movie did a great job by making the human characters more likable but nailing the monster scenes. I may be a Godzilla nerd, but seeing Kong interact with others of his kind with a mix of curiosity and frustration is so freaking good!

Skull Island (this show should have gotten a different name lmao) I pretty much like all the monsterverse stuff except skull island as i think its a little boring. KoTM is my favorite
@Soniman001 because 2014 has better direction, atmosphere, tension build up, a great soundtrack that does some heavy lifting, and is overall just more enjoyable than SI. SI also has alot of unfunny mcu type humor and 2014 has none of that too
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is my overall S-tier. Apart from everything mentioned in this video, I just love how the cinematography and set designs complimented each titan very well from their reveals to their well-choreographed action sequences (Rodan's volcano awakening, Ghidora in Antarctica, etc) - showing how they dominated the setting in their own ways & characterizations. The movie building on the theme of greek mythology also worked well in foreshadowing the sequences. It's definitely got that balanced charm that makes the titans still feel like real kaijus, unlike at the later films where they feel more like regular monsters (probably due to the quicker animation sequences). Lastly, I'll never forget this movie's Oscar-worthy trailers (not just in the monster verse, but really one of the best trailers I've watched in Hollywood) that really hyped up the ensemble of 4 titans.
The sad part is that kong has to lose in GvK because toho (the creators of Godzilla) doesn't allow America to let Godzilla lose, toho put a lot of strict rules to what america can do with Godzilla
After watching GxK this would be my ranking off all Monsterverse projects: 1. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire 2. Godzilla vs Kong 3. Godzilla: King of The Monsters 4. Kong: Skull Island 5. Godzilla 6. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters 7. Skull Island (Btw you are a really underrated UA-camr)
@@Rain321_ Me and you watched two different movies then lol It was a major letdown for me. The characters were once again empty side pieces that only existed for comedy and to drive the plot forward, it had a shitty "chosen one" side plot, Godzilla was only really in it to drive the plot forward (honestly if he was cut from this movie I really don't think much would change), this film had awful pacing, the entire movie feels like its racing to get to the end, it introduces so many ideas (some just conflicting with pre-established lore) and doesn't explain anything. Skar King is an awesome concept, but his characterisation is so off and nothing is explained about him. You were right about saying this film had good villains (definitely not the best because Ghidorah exists) but what is the point in creating these interesting villains if you won't even give them enough screen time to explain who they are, why they do what they do and what their motivations are. Those 3 things are the most basic things you need when writing a character and so many of the characters in this film are lacking these traits. So no, this film did not have "the best" human characters, villains or monsters. It did have good action but tbh the entire film felt like a montage of cool action scenes strung together by a mediocre plot.
to be honest, i felt like gxk was more like ''kong with a little appearance of godzilla''. and as a hardcore godzilla fan, i felt like there was too little godzilla in the entire movie.
Are you serious? Godzilla winning was the only real outcome, I'm still confused how people think he could have possibly won. Its literally radioactive monster vs a monkey. COME ON! THINK! Also finally! Someone who isn't critiquing the new empire. IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE DAM IT!
Kong is a axe wielding barbarian beast god and Godzilla is a fat lizard with bad breath, you can make one look bad when you word it like a typical salty Godzilla fan does but even the new movie stated Kong without any weapon is still one of the most powerful titans so I dunno why you have be this pathetic when discussing about him, Godzilla lost Kong before and he already lost to two caterpillars he really isn’t all that.
You doubt a giant fictional monster can shrug off another fictional monsters attack cause??? Even when all other monsters in this series have tanked it but it doesn’t make sense for a giant musclebound gorilla to for some reason to you?
my ranking: 1. Godzilla 2. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. 3. Godzilla vs Kong 4. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. 5. Kong: Skull Island. and Keep going man! awesome vid
Does anyone think that the dark, grounded versions of the MV films (KOTM, Kong Skull Island, 2014) are better than the more wacky ones? (GxK, GVK). I honestly prefer the more grounded ones, but the fun wacky ones have way more potential. What do you guys think?
13:21 in my opinion Godzilla winning was smart from a writing perspective because Godzilla has 1000 of years of experience and Kong beating him in the second round shows how strong and determined Kong is
@@Arlecchino_69kong was also sedated, according to both the director and the movies novelization. I don’t think it’s surprising showing how he KOd an IMMENSELY stronger version of Godzilla in GxK. Nah. KING Kong was heavily sedated. The drug remained in his system. So whenever he got angry, he became dizzy. But Godzilla was dead serious about fighting KING Kong.
@@abdulsabri6551 Yeah, and he fought and won against three apes at once, the serpent thing, and Skar King on multiple occasions. Both Godzilla and Kong got a lot of time to shine, which makes me happy.
Tbh, I was surprised how badly received Godzilla: King of the Monsters was since I quite enjoyed it, and after watching The Last Jedi I feel like I knew what a bad movie looked like (I literally wanted to do anything but sit there). Also, we need that Peter Jackson's King Kong video.
Fans: "so you think a giant atomic lizard which can kill any threat to the natural order and tank almost any attack with his thick skin can't win against a monkey?!" Nick: "Yes."
Dang I completley disagree with this list. Regarding movies, just take this list and flip it the other way around. Godzilla 2014 was perfectly dark and gritty, making every appearance of the monsters truly special. Add that to the fact that it by far had the best cinematography of the MV. A perfect comeback for the King. Kong Skull Island has the best cast of human characters and and wonderful pacing that establsihed the characters and great monster scenes. KOTM was by far the best movie of the past 3 as it had well established characters as well but also redefined the seriousness of a threat these monsters posed. GvK is definitely dead last in the universe, which is absolutely sad. The characters were absolutely atrocious and the film was full of inconsistencies. It was mindless action with no rhyme or reason. This is where Godzilla x Kong improves. Although it had a ton of action, the movie KNEW what it wanted to be and also posed a threat. Order 2014, Kong Skull Island, KOTM (order depends on your style) GxK The New Empire Godzilla v Kong
I haven't seen the latest film or the shows, but in my opinion of the ones I have seen, the monsterverse peaked in King of the Monsters, it strikes the best balance between the humans and the monsters in my opinion, it prominantly shows the monsters and their action without completely neglecting the human characters like GvK. Ghidora is also the best villain by far and is barely defeated. For me, GvK just got too goofy with too many contrivances for it to work, they wanted to keep Kong safe from Godzilla, so they took him on... a boat. They tricked Godzilla into leaving by turning off their engines, but then turned them back on almost immediately. Scanning an energy source suddenly means you can use its energy. And a random guy somehow knows how to use a ship he was just introduced to as a defibrilator. Also how TF did they build a massive dome around Kong and think he wouldn't notice, that must have taken years to construct. It had some cool parts, like Ghidorha being the twist villain again and Godzilla winning the showdowns, but the humans were nothing, while the monster stuff had too many plot holes to function. Also, reguarding Emma, she didn't explicitally want the destruction of humanity, the goal was to bring back the titans so that they could restore the natural order, which is exactly what happens at the end of the film and is presented as a good thing. The issue was that she didn't realise Ghidorha wasn't a normal titan, he didn't want to restore the natural order, he was an alian who wanted to terraform earth to his own liking. It was something beyond her knowledge, and she switched sides in the end because she realised Ghidorha's nature, not just because her daughter was upset. The film definately has its flaws, mainly reguarding the ORCA, but I see people often misunderstand Emma's arc. Within the context of the monsterverse, her original plan was a good thing, Ghidorha was just the variable that threw everything off.
I absolutely love the end of GxK the new empire because shimo basically just a dog, though I do wish scar king and shimo had more screen time I loved the movie.
1. Godzilla: King of the monsters (10/10) 2. Godzilla x Kong: The new empire (9/10) 3. Godzilla 2014 (8,5/10) 4. Godzilla vs Kong (8/10) 5. Kong: Skull Island (7/10)
For me its: 1. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (9.5/10) 2. Kong: Skull Island (9/10) 3. Godzilla 2014 (8.5/10) 4. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (8/10) 5. Godzilla vs Kong (6/10) 6. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (5/10) 7. Skull Island anime (still haven't seen it, I need to get around to watching it)
my monsterVerse movies rankings could be a bit unpopular: 1. Godzilla: king of monsters 2. Godzilla 3. Godzilla vs kong 4. Godzilla x kong 5. kong skull island
I totally agree that gxk is one of the best movies Ive seen a lot of people say that it sucks but it’s honestly the perfect combination of good and interesting human character storys and funny monsters fighting something that also makes the movie amazing is seeing godzilla and kong team up since we’ve all wanted that since gvk
My only issue with the godzilla kong crossovers is that rather than them both being main characters, kong has just been the main character with godzilla being a secondary antagonist in gvk and supporting protagonist in gxk
Tbf to Emma. She thought Gidorah and company would help make the world better and protect it. Gidorah ordered them to destroy the planet. Emma didnt expect that. Now, she should still not trust those Titans in anyway.
Emma: These creatures will bring peace to the world, they will restore the icebergs, lower temperatures- *continues yapping* *Ghidorah as soon as he gets to Rodan* *Get the fuck up amigo, we are going to attack the Washington*
Also nick thank you so much for this ranking but maybe just in my personal opinion I would maybe put skull island because after all there hasn't been any conformation there done with the series yet it could come with another season or has there been information 😮

Gxk was kinda under welming ngl like we never saw a un evolved godzilla vs shimo or kongs axe be charged by godzilla still a good movie but wish they did more
I hope they bring back Gareth Edwards as one of the director of monster verse again. he did a good job portraying the lore of godzilla back in 2014. I love how he directed that film, a deep narrative lore and emotion that was the perfect opener for the monster verse franchises
19:09 they actually do a really great job in giving John Goodman’s character Bill Randa more depth in Monarch to where when u hear them mention that he died on Skull Island and u know what happened cause we saw the movie it feels a lot more Tragic especially when Lee Shaw and Keiko find out about it especially Keiko swear to God her reaction brought me to tears
same, it just did everything i wanted to see as a godzilla fan. Toho monsters, og roars, themes, references to the classic movies, and they even ended it off with Blue Oyster Cult
Didn't realise before how much Skull Island is packed with MCU actors. Adding to that Olsen from the first Monsterverse Godzilla movie, it make quite the cast.
I think I’m on my own when I’m ranking them like this: -Godzilla: King of The Monsters -Godzilla (2014) -Kong: Skull Island -Godzilla Vs Kong -Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire I miss the epic scores, the mystery of the titans, seeing them from the POV of a human so they look giant, I miss the more realistic movements (not like where Godzilla suplexes Kong or Godzilla dives off a fucking mountain into the sea) But yes the human scenes were pretty boring
Human scenes were fun. But the cutting away NO. The kaiju fights shouldn’t be cut focusing on the humans at the same time. It’s lazy and boring we wanna see a fight. We have kaiju next to human shots in the film several times . Godzilla suplexing Kong and jumping isn’t goofy for a film with Godzilla and looks great.
@Another Nick Movies….. I’m sorry but kong is no where near the strength of Godzilla. That one actually kinda annoyed me. Your opinion is respected though, as is everyone else’s.
For me, it is: 1. Godzilla: King of The Monsters - the action is just chef's kiss, the lore is so crazy, and also because it has Ghidorah 😂 2. Godzilla (2014) - ngl, they did the best sequence, going from mostly human and kaiju lore to the fight of Godzilla and the M.U.T.O. ( massive unidentified terrestrial object ) 3. Godzilla vs Kong - the mechagodzilla fight for me was the one that hyped me up ngl, and also seeing San/Kevin/Ghidorah's skull was just +lore +theory and, idk. 4. Godzilla x Kong: the new empire - most of the scenes are okay, however, i think the lighting made me unlike the movie a bit, maybe cuz most of their previous godzilla movies happened at night. And it's a kong redemption arc for me. 5. Kong: Skull Island - NOT THE INSECTS- but anyways, idk, my memory is fuzzy. Edit: 6. The two series - idk, never saw them
5:33 I understand your points. But. Kong Skull island will always be one of my favorites from a cinematic standpoint. The introduction of Kong scene with the helicopters and Black Sabath is UNMATCHED Edit: 7:41 Edit Edit: 9:00 god damnit
True tier list: S: Godzilla KOTM Inherited the perfect monster size impression from previous movie, way more monster scenes, more characters added to the monsters and making them more purposeful. It opened the gate to the Monster Universe. A: Godzilla 2014 The most menacing Godzilla movie, most impressive with the size comparison, only not enough monster scene and atomic breath is kinda disappointing. B: Skull Island Only not big enough, the story writing is decent. C: GvK This is where Godzilla movies starts becoming Stranger Things, only not as good, even compared to the let’s-beat-the-Soviet-Union one. D: Monarch Not great show, story of Japanese kid is just pure cliche and used a typical messed up relationship as eyecatcher. However, it did add more settlings to the story and helped us to understand the movie better. E: GvK 2 It said something, showed some new features, then what? Script is poor, no Godzilla for most of the time, the mother is out of the character, the daughter chose to leave a place she belongs so she can be ignored again at school, monsters losing their huge size intimidation and looks literally like the lazy Pacific Rim 2 CGI, doesn’t feel impressive or huge. You want WWE fight? Just let John Cena and the Rock put on the monster suit and they can do way much better.

This movie did a great job by making the human characters more likable but nailing the monster scenes. I may be a Godzilla nerd, but seeing Kong interact with others of his kind with a mix of curiosity and frustration is so freaking good!

Kotm is by far the best American Godzilla movie
Finding SI boring and enjoying 2014 more is the ultimate oxymoron
@Soniman001 because 2014 has better direction, atmosphere, tension build up, a great soundtrack that does some heavy lifting, and is overall just more enjoyable than SI. SI also has alot of unfunny mcu type humor and 2014 has none of that too

i like how the fact that when he says the atomic breath scene is spine tingly i get chills, that is how awesome Godzilla 2014 is
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is my overall S-tier.
Kong Skull Island in D-tier is wild. The movie is easily A-tier or freakin S-Tier. Besides the coool Cinematography the music was great.
The sad part is that kong has to lose in GvK because toho (the creators of Godzilla) doesn't allow America to let Godzilla lose, toho put a lot of strict rules to what america can do with Godzilla
I mean back when I saw it I had little idea there was restrictions so I didn’t know who would win

@@SpinoSam What? It's literally the best Monsterverse movie. It has the best human characters, the best monsters, the best villains, the best action
@@Rain321_ Me and you watched two different movies then lol
It was a major letdown for me.

Order
2014, Kong Skull Island, KOTM (order depends on your style)
GxK The New Empire
Godzilla v Kong

Tbf to Emma. She thought Gidorah and company would help make the world better and protect it. Gidorah ordered them to destroy the planet. Emma didnt expect that.

The kaiju fights shouldn’t be cut focusing on the humans at the same time. It’s lazy and boring we wanna see a fight.

4. Godzilla x Kong: the new empire - most of the scenes are okay, however, i think the lighting made me unlike the movie a bit, maybe cuz most of their previous godzilla movies happened at night. And it's a kong redemption arc for me.
