  • "California Dreamin'", Well, why not? Can't go anywhere right now, so dreamin' is so cool. This is a song written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas, who sang the original version, released as a single in 1965. The song became a signpost of the California Myth and the arrival of the counter-culture era. What great harmonies and rhythmic cadences..... also modal in nature, with much minor-major play throughout with a super presence of another time.....when music was still very good and pure in form and harmonic structure. "Life is Good", when you "do what you love, and love what you do"..... "Hammondized" for a Thursday evening after dark. Please stay safe at home, baby. 1/21/2021 🎹😎🎹

Another piece of class, style and skill. A journey through presets and command of your hammond would be very appreciated.

This gave me late 60s early 70s film soundtrack vibes. Like Dirty Harry patrolling the San Francisco streets late a night...the flashing lights of the Tenderloin...almost had an acid trip feel to it....very cool. Not at all happy go lucky like the Mamas and the Papas....it was groovy...dark and brooding....beaded entryway to a black light sit in....neat.

A great song. Many have covered it. I still enjoy singing it. Each person relates in their own way to the era. As a song, I like the words.

Mike: Wasn't Mama Cass Elliot also lending her vocals to the Mama's and the Papa's recording? She was part of the group for many other releases. Your arrangement has its own special sound, which makes it even better.

Mama Cass was always right there, and after she passed, Spanky, of Spanky and our Gang took over that position, with a very strong and powerful voice.

Didn’t know about Spanky after Mama Cass passed. Very interesting 🧐. I can remember the shock when she died. Loved her voice. My favorite recording of hers is “ Dream a Little Dream of Me”. 🥀Beautiful song. ♥️🎼🎶♥️Chris.

I have this idea for a concept pool hall nightclub, the jukebox only has tunes featuring Hammond organ played by the likes of Jimmy Smith and McGriff and McDuff et al, and you as well!

Just finished work & loving the Hammond sound, nice one Mike. Just wondering if you're resident in the UK, and in lock down.... Any chance of La Bamba I wonder, my uncle Harry once played it for me on his collection of Hammond organs back in the early 70s, thanks..

Mamas & Papas version has always been the standard for this piece but I wonder if you have ever heard Queen Latifah's version, it is just beautiful....ua-cam.com/play/PLULBRvJzbB_jtMK4Yj48g7QRTxT4neqaS.html also, check out the Ventures version right after that one. 😊
