Dear Sullivan uploaders, I have just become aware that April Stevens passed away recently. She had many hits with her brother Nino Tempo in the '60's, but many aren't aware that her first big hit was as a solo singer back in 1951 with a unique and lovely song called "I'm in Love Again". She sang this song on the Ed Sullivan show in 1951 (her only appearance) and the footage is extremely rare. I've never seen it, nor have I ever seen any footage of April from this time in her early career. I'm sure her fans, such as myself, would love to see this, and since she recently passed away a weeks ago, I thought I would let you know in case you might have interest in posting it.
Phil Driscoll is an outstanding trumpet player, and a pretty good singer, think Joe Cocker. He had a very popular night club on Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Fl. He fronted the house band, they would pack that place out. My dad knew him, from writing tickets and calling wreckers to tow cars at the club that were parked on the shoulder of the road, lol. They got to be decent friends. Well, I wanted dad to buy me a real bass. All I had at the time was a 40 dollar Conrad, made in Korea, that mom bought me at a flea market. So Phil, had a production/publishing deal with some big label. I can't remember who. They built him a home studio, and I mean it was big and nice. Dad called up Phil and wanted to know what he should do. Dad didn't know if I could play bass or not. Phil told dad to bring me by his house and we would jam and he'd give dad an opinion. We did that. and he told dad I was a pretty good bass player. Phil ordered my first good bass I ever had from a friend of his in Chicago, that was the Rickenbacker 4001 I wish I'd never got rid of. Phil was a good dude.
Phil put on an amazing show in that club! He would some kind of alcohol on the end of his horn and set it on fire then play like it was nobody’s business. Great musician and showman!
Phil lives in my area now and I was getting gas last month and looked up and he was filling up right next to me. It was so shocking that I said “ hi Phil!” as if if he had a clue who I was. 😊
Energetic & soulful performance! Thank you for sharing this! I haven't really heard this performed like this before, but I like it! God Bless You & stay safe.
@@BRTTV12 thanks, I'm kinda spoiled cuz I saw derek and the Dominos with Gordon and Whitlock plus fellow Tulsan carl radle but jamie is a helluva drummer and Dick Sims is excellent or ogan.
He never got the credit he deserved for his talent. I met him as a kid. He was absolutely mind blowing live.

Fantastic trumpetist👍👍
Tremendous. Saw him a couple of times in the UK when he played Amway weekenders in 90's. Never forget him especially Inner Man xx
Great performance, thanks for sharing!
Beautifully bombastic.😎

Wonderful ❤
America has lost a lot talent, the twenty century, its likes will never come again.
We just recently loss Tina Turner and Ed Ames.
Nothing like a Hammond b3. Amazing instrument.
Wow! Very well done! And how about some applause for the other musicians? 👏👏👏
I was most impressed by the short notes beginning at 3:41
Uno de los mejores trompetistas y músico de todos los tiempos es Phill D.
Wow!!!!🎉
WOW!!!!!!!
Great!
Fantastic…
anyone know the drummer or the organ player's names? they're cooking!🎺🥁🎹
Jamie Oldaker (Drums) and Dick Sims (Organ) from Tulsa. They both went on to play with Eric Clapton.

Jammin!
Bongos. You gotta love bongos!
My hair was just like that in high school. Darker color though.
This must've been the penultimate episode, the show would end its run a few days later.
Yes, the next show, March 28, 1971, would be Sullivan’s final live show.
Day 5 of asking for more Rosie Clooney!
Trumpet to start, then another horn. 🙂
Actually, he began with a flugelhorn, then swapped it out for a trumpet.
@@Duke_of_Prunes 0:10 trumpet to start. I missed it too at first.
@@lonestarfriend Yup. Trumpet, then flugelhorn, then back trumpet. I had to rewatch the video to catch my mistake.
Sullivan had just learned the week prior that his show had been cancelled.
I think the last recorded broadcast was the week after this show. (March 28, 1971.)
@@michaelbarnhart2593 Correct - March 28, 1971 was Sullivan’s last live show.
Great bongos...but could use just a little more cowbell.😅
Amazing hairdo...also, didn't people see how old Mr Sullivan looked and behaved? Different times, but still.
Folks, what instrument is he playing? That's not a normal trumpet, right?
Is that a flugel horn?
yes in the beginning
Yes it's a flugal horn. Amazing rsnge
