  • In this film I spend four mornings filming and photographing a pair of Kingfishers on the Teign Estuary in Devon, UK. Follow me as I find and film the pair flying together within ten minutes of setting up! I also demonstrate how I film and photograph the Kingfishers with my Nikon Z6 and Nikon D500 cameras coupled with the Sigma 70-200mm lens and Sigma 150-600mm lens.

My obsession with birds and bird photography has brought me here and yes also my love for the Kingfishers as well. Like you Rich i had my fare shares of disappointing shots but they have never stop me from getting outside. Just like fishing many people don't realize that sometimes the birds are not what I'm after when I'm out and about doing my photography...just look at your surroundings! Thanks for sharing, Sir!

Hi Kenny, thanks fir watchiing and commenting, its great to have you on the channel. You are so right, a massive part of the enjoyment of wildlife photography for me is the whole process, and a huge part of that is just being outside in nature and being grateful for what I have. The comparison with fishing is a great one, I have spent HOURS just sitting and enjoying the whole process of fishing, if I catch something then great, if not, maybe I will next time. It would get very boring if it was a sucess every time. Thanks again, Rich

Hi Anthony, thanks for your comment and for watching. I use a Benro Mach 3 Carbon Tripod and also a "Mike" tripod from 3 legged thing. Both are excellent. Any other questions please feel free to ask 👍

Ever seen TV show 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'?
P.S. great vids. Bumped into them as I am in Devon and I saw a very strange bird fly over my workplace, turns out it was an Eagret with its neck folded. (Thought I was seeing Pelicans!)

ha ha! I didn't watch it myself but it might have been mentioned a few times that I look like someone on the show.....I remember that person from a coffee ad (showing my age). Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed some of the videos :-)

Great video Rich! This is my local nature reserve and I've spent quite some time down there to watch the Kingfishers. One loves to perch on a concrete post just around from the bridge, I have a video on my channel of it diving

Hey Ryan, thanks very much for your comment. Nice video of the kingfisher diving yourself, I managed to get some great stills of it hitting the water and coming back up on to the perch, it’s such a great experience. The stills are on my Insta page (RichCarusWildlife). So seems we are in the same neck of the woods. I live between Newton and Totnes. I need to spend some more time down at the Marshes actually, haven’t been down there since the summer.

@@TheDevonOutdoorsman The Kingfishers are still very easy to spot there. I've got to say, out of all the Kingfisher locations I know of, this is my most consistent spot. I've never left without seeing one

Hi Carl, thanks so much for the comment and for watching. I hope you’re enjoying your wildlife photography? You’ll likely recognise a lot of the places I’ll be featuring. My next video is coming out tomorrow. Kestrel (with a bit of Dolphin thrown in for good measure!). I hope you’ll enjoy it and thank you again for taking the time to watch and comment. Rich

Another great vlog. Brilliant watch. With the Z6 use silent shutter and it will max out at 1/8000. Its perfect for being close to wildlife and you have no shutter noise what so ever

Thank you very much, your feedback really is appreciated and I’m so pleased you enjoyed the vlog. I have used silent shutter, I wasn’t aware it maxed out at 1/8000 though so thanks for that tip. I have tended to use the D500 for stills but I’ve just returned from a holiday and only took the Z6, it performed really well. The noise of the D500 can be an issue so I’ll likely start using the Z6 more for stills. 👌

@@TheDevonOutdoorsman that was the main reason I got rid of the d500. I could cope with the noise after using my d750 again during lockdown for my fox images. Thats why I got the z6 and for the video.

@@mdkphotography2370 no issues with the D500 and noise, I use DXOPhotolab2 and Affinity Photo to clean up the noise. I also use the D850 with fantastic results.
