FL5 is a classic - made in Japan, huge engine bay for monster turbo - better cooling - stiffer chassis -

@Cameron Hill You can see the paint quality off the bat - the 2017 Rs have orange peel from the factory- especially the black and SGP colors.
The engines are made in Ohio so both plants just plop them in the car on the line. Swindon was responsible for the hatchbacks and Type Rs so when you see the paint quality on them you'll immediately tell the difference between them and the FL5 finish.
I said the same thing and now I’m driving one. I love it, to me it drives and shifts a lot smoother.

The car feels more solid and more quality! Both amazing cars but the FL5 is my favorite for sure! I was fortunate to get mine at msrp so it made it possible for me!! Keep up the phenomenal content Cam!! I have been enjoying the videos for years and you are one of my favorite channels for sure!! I hope you can make it work to get one!! Just bought my SGP fl5 3 days ago here in San Diego, paid 46,165 with 5 miles on it after some time haggling. I absolutely love this car, only gripe is that hideous back up camera but otherwise it’s gold. Great video Cam

The vents on the front fender are to keep the air from staying in that pocket around the tire at higher speeds. The Boost Blue or the Nardo-ish gray color are my two favorite colors on the FL5. Beautiful cars!👌🏽🔥🔥
I had the FK2 and one thing it had which was better than the two later versions was the quad exhaust system it looked much better than the triple exhaust on the newer models

My friends fk8 the other day with acuity shifter and it was extremely tight and nice feeling. Not that I dislike the shifter in the fl5 but that acuity sure was a nice upgrade. But I actually liked the way the clutch pedal felt and the way it shifts in the fk8 over my fl5. Not sure why that is, I figured that aspect would be very similar. My pedal feels lighter and and long travel and it’s hard to time the shifts into second but in the fk8 it was effortless.
I have always been a muscle car guy, I have only owned Camaros (I leased a Cobalt SS while I waited for the 5th gen Camaros to come out), but I have always liked the Civic Si/SiR etc. When they showed this car off before (the base model), I was pretty disappointed with the styling... But I CAN'T stress this enough. This car looks FAR better in person than in any of the media when they revealed it. You did a great job showing this car at great angles, and I think this car looks outstanding. As soon as I saw these cars on the road (even the base models) I was just like... oh, ok this thing actually looks really great. I'm really impressed with this Type R, and I hope they do something with the Integra to get it on par with this, because... I'm a bit disappointed in that... however, I have yet to see one on the street, so that may change. And to be fair, my first car was a 95 Camaro Z28, and I always felt like that car didn't look great in photos, but when you were next to it, it was gorgeous.
I think it's the headlights. They look like they kind of don't match the car somehow, but it looks great in real life. It's hard to explain, so hopefully you understand what I mean, lol. Great video, really enjoyed it.
Crystal Black Pearl #00711 here! It’s a lot of fun and it’s definitely a mix of FD2 and EK9 in terms of looks. The FK8 was an evolution of the the FK2 and FN2. I can guarantee that it is a very rigid ride on rougher roads. These roads you guys are on are beautiful for the FL5 in comparison. Enjoy it! This is as close to a 90s JDM feel with modern tech we’ll get!

I think there are three key differences to switch from Fk8. 1: more premium interior 2: more conservative stylying 3: improved cooling. I think if you track your car its definitely worth the upgrade. But the other two reasons are subjective

If you're interested in grabbing one, I've called around to basically every dealer in northern Florida and Crown Honda in Tampa has been the most reasonable at 7k over (6k for protection package, 1k doc fee). I'm still holding out for 5k or less over MSRP, but Crown has been by far the closest
This car is really enticing. I have the funds and I'm starting a new job that will force me to drive to different job sites from time to time. But those markups really kill the mood and remind me that it's still just a fast civic.
I was going to say look into getting an FK8, but the prices of those have gone up too
Might be getting the FL5 thursday. the mark up does suck, i'm coping by them buying my trade for well over what I owe so its mostly a wash net positive situation. Great video.
I hated the FL5 at first,now I love mine. Took seeing it in person when it arrrived for me to fall for it. Had it since Nov 4th,2022 one of the first.
I believe a lot of the upgrades you’re experiencing are not from fk8 r to fl5 r but from one generation standard civic to another. This platform has been a major push to up the premium feel from the last gen. Of course adding type r upgrades not to mention every single exterior panels excluding front doors and roof adds up to price increase from the fk8. I am waiting on mine at msrp. Took me 60+ emails and calls to every dealerships around me but it is doable. Most likely I would get one after fl5 refresh

same chasis, same engine, different turbo and final drive. Only thing i like is the space in the engine bay, and he got it in the best color. Brandon is a great dude!

I personally wouldn’t buy a type R over MSRP with 500 miles on it especially knowing those are some hard pressed miles on the car without properly being broken in yet but that’s just how I feel. I’ll be more interested in seeing the Integra Type S this summer. As a former STi owner, I just can’t do those big wings anymore so the Type S will be more my style.
Yeah bro I don't know what people is paying over msrp for those car's I'm a car entusiast I have a 2021 wrx sti and a 2023 Hyundai elantra N and I don't buy the type R just for that all those dealers want a lot money over sticker that's crazy
You can put those same size tires on your FK8 Cameron. I had that size along with some Titan 7s thanks to Michael Baxi’s recommendation. No rubbing issues at all!
You can even do 275/35/18 since you have the same specs as me. 18x9.5 +45. No rubbing. 255 is too narrow imo

I miss my fk8, I'm hoping to get an fl5 within a couple of years, it's so good looking, currently have an a5 3.0 tdi quattro as a family car, even tho that thing is quick its no fun like a type r, I cannot wait till I get my hands on an fl5, ultimate car!
Ok so the side vents are there to relieve the normally high air pressure that gets built up in the front wheel well area which creates lift on the front end of the vehicle. Particularly important in this application as there are front air dams in the bumper which channels air from the front to cool the front brakes (it channels it behind the front wheels/brakes). So the side vents help maintain a steady flow of air into the front wheel well for cooling then expel it back out through the side vents. Interestingly what some people call "fake vents" on the sides of the front bumper, which the front black splitter flows into, are actually aero-kick-outs. The kick-outs send air around the front wheels/wheel wells in a smooth laminal flow, so that air doesn't get sucked into the wheel wells and interrupt the brake cooling flow from the front air dams, or increase air pressure in the wheel wells. So all the aero is designed to work together in tandem to keep the car stable, keep it cool, and keep the nose down. Also the front hood scoop is an air extractor, air that flows in through the front grill and goes through the radiator is then expelled out of the heat extractor, lowering the overall temperature in the engine bay by expelling hot air, and also not allowing high pressure build up which increases lift on the front end. So it helps cool the engine, and lowers pressure in the engine bay which decreases lift of the front end.

With the running car/door lock situation, it may be like my wife’s pilot lift gate, if it’s running you have to have the doors unlocked to get the life gate to open, tell the guy to unlock his doors and see if the hatch will open while it’s running

Nice video and I have a 2025 reserved in Canada. As far as I and the dealer knows, there is no mid-cycle refresh, as it is only a three year run (2023-2025) and extra tooling costs would not make sense as all cars are pretty much already sold (to dealers or assigned to customers) worldwide.

I really think you should get one if you can let yourself give up the FK8. There’s not a lot of parts out for the FL5 yet but they are on their way and, selfishly, we need those CamH install videos for inspiration. 😅
The brake calipers and rotors are the same as the refreshed FK8, however I believe they went with a different setup for the brake master cylinder. So they'll feel a bit different in application. They bite a bit sooner and quicker.
The FL5 brakes bite super quick. You could stop on a dime.
@@DynamiteDB Yeah...I remember when I first got in at the dealer to drive mine home, my foot wasn't used to the setup yet, and there were definitely more than a couple of brake check style starts and fits on the way home. 😅 Now that I've gotten used to it, I love how quick, responsive, and strong the brakes are.

I actually had two flat tires at once on my FK8 with the stock 20 inch wheels.
Posted before I was done…Ran over a football sized rock. Couldn’t wait to mount my 18 Titan 7 TS-5s…a lot more rubber padding and less weight. Buying the 20 inch donut spare from Honda is also a must!
As a content creator I think you pretty much have to buy one Cam (go where the clicks are), but for everyone else if you already own an FK8 it's a tough call. Between ADM, low volume and high APR's you really got to WANT this car to purchase one right now. I love both cars, but I can wait for a couple years to upgrade and see what the refresh brings.

The fl5 is awesome, I got a sonic grey one brand new for 6250 over msrp, so I paid a lil over 50k before ttl. I gapped a nismo 370z a few days ago on the freeway.

Before consider or decide to buy FL5. You should check also the Acura Integra Type-S as well. Maybe it also an upgrade car...

The fit and finish of a premium Japan build vs a FK8 built in England is the difference. Japan just builds everything with crazy precision. 🔥
This car does have a longer final drive, which would explain the lower RPMs than you’re used to. It’s also why the car is a tenth slower in the quarter.
12:22 to 12:50 I 100% agree with you…. It’s a great car, but 50k+ for a little over 300hp is a tough sell for many of us….
Just get a camaro ss and with full bolt ons on e85 tune you getting 580-650whp and faster then a zl1 camaro for the same price as a type r.
Also i really do like the corrola gr but yeah 50k for a corrola is way overpriced but im sure its super reliable and fun too drive.. i live in the south so i can sure use an awd car cause it rains a lot i need some traction...
I was thinking the new kia ev gt6 or whatever its called but idk if i can buy an electric car yet especially since it cant even go 200 miles on a single charge.. if i drive too Atlanta ga and back thats 120 miles from my house so am i gunna lose charge before i make it back.. it is a bad ass car though not gunna lie but just not practical the range is garbage on the battery and not enough charging stations for that vehicle to be a daily driver..
Hey Cameron, so question, are you thinking of trading for the FL5? I had an 18' FK8 Type R with some mods. It was pushing about 380 whp. it was a very fun car but i sold it and got a 21' ZL1 1LE Camaro. Im looking into the new Integra Type S. My buddy works at my local Acura dealer and i can grab one at MSRP! What are your thoughts on the Integra versus the new FL5? Im kinda liking the look of the Integra a little more myself.

I was an ‘18 Si owner and I loved that car. I wanted to get the FL5 so badly but the prices were crazy (and I wanted to stay a Honda boy). Ended up going to the dark side and getting an ‘18 Golf R. Honda will always be my first love, but my God I love my Golf R. 😅

7:21 that unused button is for the auto turn off and on when stopping and going in the UK model. Lol it’s a button that turns on or off that system.
I see a lot of type r owners want a REV match button somewhere in the car, I don’t understand why because I keep the rev matching on and I love it. Boost Blue growing on me a lot but I love my Championship White FL5 ^.^

@@Camhill182 I’m hoping it’s just under or right at 50k, or at least that’s what makes most sense to me so that it’s not too close to their TLX Type S. Anything else is a little too much for my taste.

It's gonna be a slower, softer, less special version of the FL5. It's not made in Japan either. It's a cool car if that's what you're looking for tho.
augh i'm in the market for a new car.. i really like the FL5 but its hard to justify the price. in regards to the ride comfort, the FL5 does that thing where it'll "detect" spirited driving and raise the dampening, even if you're in comfort mode. so i think people are just locking the dampers into the soft setting

I live in nc I have a 2019 type r and a 2021 limited Phoenix yellow type r. The yellow is 555 on the production line
My CVT belt snapped at 150k on the nose on 2016 EXT Civic. As a Honda guy my whole life, I’m starting to reconsider Hondas going forward. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s just a Honda quality decision. It’s everything anymore. Nothing is built to last. Only reason I bought Honda to begin with.
I'm looking to get a Type R myself sometime in the future I just don't know if I want the FK8 or the FL5 yet, all depends on the market in the future.

15k markup for a sonic grey I saw yesterday at the local dealership. After sitting next to it for over an hour while waiting for my 9th Gen Accord getting an oil change it started up look plain. I like my FK8 better

Got it for 3k over MSRP, didn't want to pay over MSRP but man am I glad I did. I love this car so much. You should know the side Vents behind the wheels on the FK8 were Fake Vents same as the front ones on the Bumper. FL5 ones were Real Vents.

I live in Puerto Rico and this is my dream car but here they sell it in 55k to 65k the only way that you can find a 40k type R car is if it's already used and the owner is sailing them, beside that is hard to buy a car like this when the minimum wage here is $8.50 the hr (in August it will go up to $9.50) but I'm determined to one they buy my dream car. 💖
Both great cars. The FL5 interior is better, but it isn't enough for me to want to change from the FK8.
