For the millionth time...That "Fake Vent" in the front bumber he keeps saying is non-functional, IS NOT A VENT. It's an Aero Kick-Out for air to flow smoothly past the front wheel/tire and not get sucked into the wheel well. It's meant to kick the air out around the front wheels, so that the air that's directed in for brake cooling, can have uninterrupted flow into the wheel well, and flow out the side vent relieving high pressure in the wheel well. It's a purpose driven functional piece of aero design, not "just a fake vent". The Honda engineers specifically talked about their being no fake aero pieces on this car vs the FK8, they wanted everything that is there to be functional, and nothing extra just for looks.
Facts
Agreed and that’s what I was thinking as well they don’t do it on purpose
Thank you for the info
Savagegeese had a segment in their review with the chief designer of the FL5 type-R, who said there are no fake vents on the FL5. Everything has a purpose.
@@whosdondada No doubt. If you're interested Savagegeese has a great introductory review of the FL5 Type-R. In the video they have some interviews with the engineers, as well as Honda's technical slides about the car. One of the slides demonstrates what I'm talking about...but they're all interesting.
I love how you own a Ford Focus RS, Subaru WRX STi, FK8 Honda Civic Type R, and a FL5 Honda CTR in your garage! You are a hero and automotive company’s around the world are grateful for your hard work and support!
I think there's a reason why almost every car UA-camr has bought one of these. Fantastic all around vehicle.
Totally an awesome car!
You are spot on the money about that!
So very true!
I don't think it is the car 100% that is the reason so many content creators bought one as it is they had the money to burn from their channels, they figured they will make money on it so go ahead and never stopped to think, what about my subscribers, the regular hard working people who always wanted a car like this, finally they have a chance so why ruin that?
Greed, that's why, ugly sad, greed.
I think they did it more for the views, subs and $$ that comes with that.
which killed the market for regular folks like you and I.
Unless of course you are willing to dump 5 to 40k$ over sticker which I am not.
Putting the car out of reach for regular people buy giving in to dealer demands hurts us all and it really irritates me the greed these people demonstrate rather than the feeling of community.
A community acts together for the best interest of the group, the greater good.
But you can see none of these youtubers did.
Not even our so-called buddy Raiti.
He put his desire and easy money from UA-cam to work for him so he could get what he wanted without thinking about his subscribers who as a result may never get to own an FL5.
Weaker, less patient players will say, hey capitalism, and hey make more money etc.. but there is no need to pay over sticker for this car, ever.
If he and all others just said no I don't think a Civic is worth $50k Ill wait.
We would all be able to afford the Type R.
Production would ramp up and more cars would flow to America.
They just want more, more subs, likes, and dollars from advertisers.
Meanwhile if they had the guts to stand tall on it, even if it meant not being the first to own the Type r, and just said NO to dealers, they could have regulated the market for everyone.
Now it is a mess.
@@mattpipke5716 jesus christ you wrote a fuckin novel crying like a b***h lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this, and would really like to see more vids on the cars you own. You've got some sweet rides Raiti 😁👍
Thanks will do!
He's got really good taste in automobiles and the means to indulge thanks to hard work and dedication. Joe and Lori.
Joe thank you for bringing this to us! Steven you’re the best!😊 keep doing these reviews on your fl5 civic type r, and please do a video doing a Costco run!! I’m torn between the integra type S and this type R
There are definitely things I don't like about my car too. But like you always say, "No car is perfect." Love it!
Save the turtles!
Congrats on your new Type R, Mr Raiti! You truly are a connoisseur of the finest of vehicles.
Thanks for taking the time to say that!
do you still own this and will own this for the next 15 years? thank you
Hey Joe, love the video. Just curious, what cars are in your fleet currently? Thanks for your hard work on this channel!
I really like the vids where you just talk about your personal experiences and opinions on cars
Thanks for the feedback!
Amazing videos Joe! keep them coming!
You got it Mike!
More type r vids 🎉, Waiting for full exhaust and intake!!!!!! This channel slaps!!!!!
Joe,
Love this review.
To the point and really very helpful.
Thanks!!
That’s means the world
There is a module behind the glovebox that's responsible for the piped in noise. If you drop the glovebox, you can see it. Comes out with a simple screw driver and doesn't hurt the car in any way.
Great looking car, Joe! I agree, the exhaust sound needs some help.
Wishing you many miles of safe and fun driving ON THROTTLE.
Thanks David for being so kind.
@@RaitisRides I bet you can swap the Integra Type S exhaust over and get some better sound.
I paid extra to get the gloss door trim for my Sport Touring, because it looks better with tinted windows. You can, of course, get all matte black parts, but then some people report sun bleaching deterioration of those.
Agreed on all your points Joe. Looking forward to upgrading this car!
Thanks Tin! Stay tuned!
Love your vids keep up the good work ❤
You got it my friend!
I'm really happy for you, being able to get this Championship White beauty! This was my dream car 20 years ago, and it still is, now more than ever with this new generation. I hope I get the opportunity to make a really stupid financial decision within the next few years before this thing disappears for good.
Price should be 36-38k. 45k for civic is just too much.
Well it can outperform cars that $80k and above. So you're still getting a good deal.
Find me one for 45k and I’ll buy it today
Dont forget the 20k dealer markup! There should be some sort of mandatory MSRP pricing combined with a no resale clause. Sell the cars to people who will drive them and punish dealers selling above MSRP, sad state the enthusiast car market is in.
@@bigweedonly which makes it $65k. maan that was fully loaded hellcat out the door price 2 years ago 🥲
Pricing for everything has gone up!
Love the continuing review of Type R!
I like how the car's animation in the screen also turns as you steer the car. Nice little detail by Honda!
I’m in the know! LOL Great vid
Amazing video!!! I'm looking forward to this car to arrive in my country!
Awesome my friend!
Yo Raiti, great review. Comment about your issue with ride stiffness (that’s what she said). You could consider downsizing your rims 1in and increasing tire height for a lil sidewall flex and enhances ride compliance.
You hit the nail on the head with your choices of negatives. In my opinion this is the best overall generation but they made some odd choices to make the exhaust and the side vents severely toned down or just for show.
Thanks man for sharing your thoughts on this one.
I've told him same thing I'ma tell you. Those front bumper "fake vents" that he likes to "zonk" aren't fake vents. They're called air-kick-outs. They're a functional and intentional part of the overall aerodynamic design for the front and side. They're there to kick out air in a smooth laminal flow out and around the front wheel well/wheel/tire, and send it down the side of the car. It's there so that the air that's directed through the brake cooling dams in the bumper have a smooth flow to the brakes and out the side vent (also relieving high preasure build up in the front wheel wells). All of that is meant to work together to keep the brakes cool, keep the pressure in the wheel well low, and maintain smooth laminal flow down the side of the vehicle.
There are engineering slides out there of their wind tunnel testing, showing the various air flow for the different parts of the aero setup for the Type-R, along with brief explanations. I think Savagegeese shows some of them in his introductory review of the Type-R. One of the things the Honda engineers wanted with this generation of Type-R was to have all functional aero design, and drop any fake aero pieces like they had on the previous FK8.
Always great job
Can't wait to see when the Civic Type R vs Integra Type S! I'm quite sure the Integra will be faster all the way around. Gloss black exterior finish gives it more of a luxury look...I like it..
And yes, do some more in the depth videos of your other cars! That would be kind of fun, I don’t think you’ve done it on them.
Great video once again! I think your mic might be going bad though , the last vid you made had interference as well , thanks .
Thanks for the feedback
Nice ride, Joe!
The insert on the front is a functional air dam designed to settle the current around the tires lol. It is functional just not a vent.
Glad to see the FL5 again.
Nice new series!
Thanks man
Great review, nice car.
I definitely think you should put an aftermarket exhaust on this car.
Agreed
Nice review Joe. How would you say the GTI Type R compares to the Civic Type R?
I agree with everything you say. Please more videos like this.
Nice review 😮 my dream car.
Great review. Watched every second of it. I actually like this version of the Type R over the previous one. It looks a bit more tame. Laughed aloud about the turtle in the road.
Almost at a milly dude!!!!!!!
I’m mind blown that stealeships are allowed to mark these up 20-30k. You’re putting this car in a different bracket of cars that it doesn’t belong to. I’m in CA and they aren’t scarce. They are in every dealership but they are having a hard time selling because of the ridiculous mark ups.
I love it Joe and Lori and keep up the great work real true and I love the video 👍 💯
Thanks brother man!
Can’t forget Steve either
The stiff ride in R mode is stiff on purpose. It's there so that if you plan on seriously tracking the car, not just for fun. It's there so that when you use proper full race, R-Comp, tires the car doesn't get unsettled on track. If the tires are super sticky, and the suspension is too soft, it will upset the car on track. R Mode isn't really for street driving, even though I personally don't have a problem with it when you want to do some spirited back road driving.
Thanks for your intel.
@@RaitisRides I'm curious how many miles you have on your FL5 so far. Mine seemed to soften up a bit after about 1,500-2,000 mile break in on the suspension. Not crazy mind you, just sorta smoothed out those sharp edges a bit. Comfort is more supple, Sport is a proper middle ground, and while R is stiff, it's a bit less bouncy and more settled than day 1.
You should bring it when you get to doa full review of the Teggy Type-S. A good back to back comparison between the too would be awesome.
You should have the trim on the outside all painted matte black it would look so cool! It can’t cost that much to have it all painted. You would think…lol
Good idea.
Congratulations on your amazing awesome car which is a dream car for many. My wife and I love our Elite a spec Canada 🇨🇦 version MT black Integra 🇨🇦 ⚫️ 🖤 ♥️ and its super fun, so we can imagine type R and type S. Your exterior gloss black could be wrapped with satin black
HI JOE THATS SO AWESOME! ILL NEVER STOP COMMENTING!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!
You are the best! Thank you!
@@RaitisRides I know! I LOVE YOU!
You look good in the car, it fits you like sunshine and rainbows.
Thanks for saying that!
I'd have to get an aftermarket exhaust. I like my cars to have sound.
congrats Joe enjoy
it's a great Accord
Happy Saturday
Wow was your car even ON at 5:50 😂 Honda F up with that exhaust. Nice video as always! 👍🏼
Congrats 🍾. Man I wish the GR interior was closer to the type R.
My new Camry TRD also has the red seatbelts for the extra 5 hp. 😅
You know it!
I think the car’s suspension is pretty stiff in all three settings. But, it is quite the machine! Honda really did an amazing job!
Ask your mom about stiff suspensions
The gloss black is nice compared to fake carbon,
The exhaust sound is a let down maybe a sports cat might help it a bit before swapping it out.
It’s an awesome car and built in Japan this time ❤
Probably one of the best front wheel drive cars ever!
Sold a 2022 Civic Si rally red and it had a horrible fit and finish and traded it for a 2021 Civic Type R and not much better in fit and finish but will never part with it.
Great looking car! Gloss black looks great.
Raiti, which do you think will hold value better? Type R or the integra type s?
Cool stuff
When’s the comparison of this against the Subie Type RA that you also own? Curious how this stacks against it and also the Subie S209 since you have had seat time in that also.
Some of your best work here. Wishing you many years of fun with this jewel of a car. I appreciate the cooling improvements, Log R, interior dash tweaks, improved shifter, extra power, and custom modes of this gen. But keeping my AB '18 FK8 since I much prefer the styling, slightly lower weight and shorter length/ turning circle, no pumped in noise, not to mention cost. Oops I mentioned it.
Both gens are great- with no real competition- other so-called 'competitors' fail in one or more areas. At any price.
It says a lot when top auto journalists plunk their own money down on a model.
And please do more videos like this of your own collection.
That means the world! Thank you & will do!
All that feedback in the mic is his finest work lol
There's away to disable the fake sound through the glove box. Just disconnect the connector! There's tutorials on yt on how to do it. Super easy.
I kinda agree with the zonks on the exterior with the gloss black on the grille. It should be matte black and the door handles and roof should also be black. Not sure why so many companies do the fake vents on performance cars.
Joe good video I have question is hard the clutch or
Not hard at all
Time to trade that in for the integra type s
We will see.
Great video! Might need to make some adjustments to the mic
Love your Type R but love more your care of the turtle!!
I called every dealership in Alberta, Canada between today and yesterday, no dealerships have any available and all dealerships had 10-20 people on the waiting lists. I am crushed I can't find one. Most dealerships have 10-20 people on next years waiting list and some dealerships said they are waiting until 2032 for everyone on the list to get one, if hypothetically everyone on the list were to fulfill their spot on the waitlist. mind-blowing. One dealership told me that they are still affected by the silicon shortage for computer chips. I NEED A WHITE ONE BUT CAN'T EVEN SETTLE FOR ANY COLOUR.
My 96 accord was $20k brand new. I can't see myself paying over 40k for a civic. It's beautiful, enjoy it. Can life get any better than driving around in your type R in beautiful FL.
With inflation that’s $38k, very unfair to compare a completely different time to now
between your type ra, gt350, 1le, and this how do you decide what to drive everyday?
Get the sukeban design rock guards, just the right amount of protection from road debris coming off the tires. I dont get rocks on my sidesills
they deleted the real sound and gave you a fake one that you can't turn off lol. Love this Type R though just not the mark ups at dealerships. Thanks for the review!
Plus R is made for a track, I don't understand why people would complain about it for street driving
You can always change race exhaust pipe to your honda, so you get that sound what you've been looking for. Change intake filter too
So very true!
Is perfect for those who enjoy driving. Keep enjoying it,
Thanks Omar!
It’s a great car if you track, sure. But it’s not gonna do anything different on regular roads being driven how most people drive it on regular roads.
@@billbigshlong382 possibly
The oem wheels and tires on this car are nice.
I agree on that one David
That shift knob looks butter. Wonder if it’ll be hot during the summer lol
I would suggest that Honda use a full length center console. This would give the interior 4 bucket seats and some additional style. For me personally, I'd remove the rear wing altogether and paint the wheels silver and add all season tires. I want some nice driving, but don't need/want all-out track capability.
Thanks for you thoughts on this one.
Looks Great! Personally, Id want an automatic Type R cause Im lazy!
Like the gloss black and the trim pieces lol
No negative comments here…Awesome car all around!!
Thanks Bob for sharing that!
I just trade in my 2021 fk8 for this same car and i love it and the car being assemble in japan makes a huge difference
Thanks for the honesty Joe, but was this an Exit Interview/Trade in for a new Acura Integra Type S coming to the Raiti's Garage 🤔😏😎
LOL We will see Hunter!
Love this type r 💯
Awesome Car!
Hey Joe, I think it'd be cool if you did this format video version on your Bronco!
Good looking car just looking at this car since subaru stopped making the wrx sti. best reviews on the Web
What about a spare tire for those epic journeys? Can it not be fitted aftermarket?
Rati- I have a gt350r too. Do you think it’s good to get the type r?
That is some pocket rocket you have there! Sensational review, and the Hate & Love aspect pulled me in, made it even more riveting. Thanks for caring about the turtle; some Neanderthal types would aim for the innocent critter.
It’s really a beautiful car and Honda did amazingly well with it, not many or any zonk honestly.
I'd like to replace the high- performance soft tires on my 2023 Type R when due for new to all- season radials. What are your thoughts?
My brother has a 2019 white civic type R he loves it
Can we remove the fake sound?
How does it compare to a 2020/2021 STI as you have done quite a few videos on them (I own one now)?
Joe, do you remember if you had the seat all the way back? I'm asking because I'm 6'6", I fit well in the Sport, but I know those seats are thicker.
I would not personally responsible buy one but i respect people who do for their love of driving
That is really awesome of you to say!
