A Ride Through the Clouds to Icod de los Vinos | Tenerife

- Monika and I rode across the Teno mountain range to the north coast of Tenerife- to the town of Icod de los Vinos.
This 500 year old town is famous for its wine and a supposedly 1,000 year old Dragon Tree!
The Triumph Bonneville had started to sound a bit ropey as we travelled across the mountain range, and the temperature dropped significantly, so we were genuinely cold by the time we’d reached 1km altitude with thick cloud.
The landscape to cross to the north of Tenerife was hugely diverse and felt almost more like the UK, with fairly lush vegetation and quite green.
We pick up a speciality of Tenerife while in Icod de los Vinos- Banana Liquor, and then grab a bite to eat at Casa del Drago- a superb little restaurant with front line seats to the Dragon Tree- we hugely recommend getting a coffee or bite to eat there!
On the way, we see some great classic cars, including a Vauxhall Nova, a Mk2 VW Golf, and an old Mercedes 240!

A rainy Sunday morning sat with a cup of tea and peanut butter on toast, watching Freddie and Monika riding the roads of Tenerife………perfect.
Exactly the same from the west coast of BC Canada
The same here in a small village north of Dresden, Germany. After a Sunday night shift I sit here on my plate full of toast with liver cheese and ketchup and watch Freddie roll his machine through such a picturesque landscape, enjoy the wonderful music and envy him a little. Meanwhile, my triumph in the garage is waiting for better weather. 3 ° C and damp autumn fog are not motorcycle weather.

Icod de Los Vinos has a beautiful beach seven minutes away, the beach is in the midle of a estunning bay and there is also a beautiful clif by the beach.
There is another city you have to visit wich is Garachico, it has an interesting history.
As a local I have to say that you are making a great and beautiful videos showing the island in a respectful way, Thanks very much

Great blog yet again both, made scrambled egg on toast and coffee to watch, I went to see that tree in my early twenties on an excursion and now at 62 waiting for morning to dry up a bit to go out for ride out around brecon, but I will be wearing full gear wish the weather was like what your having can't wait for next vid, enjoy guys and stay safe
Woooow- I would’ve loved to see Tenerife in the 80s- getting around without the motorways must’ve been a very different experience. Brecon is glorious for biking, but I can imagine the weather’s really closing in now!

Hello, I just found out your channel and I've binge-watched all of the Tenerife videos.
I'm a local young guy, 23 years old and I'm smiling with every video i watch.
You show the island in such a beautiful way, the cinematography, the music fits so well, such a nice job selecting them.
The stuff you talk about and reacting at what you see, i can see you are actually interested and fascinanted about it, your attitude shows it.
The point is that, since im a local, im gladly offering myself if you need any kind of information of the likes of culture, traditons, places to go, also places to avoid becouse, you know, there is bad people everywhere in the world and this is no execption, it is true that the rate of crime is very low compared to mainland Spain and other EU countries but there are still some small areas that are worse than others lets put it that way.
Anyway if you would like to know anything about the island im glad to help and inform you on any question you may have (if i know the answer of course lol) Becouse the people that come here and like it and want to learn stuff about the place i fell happy helping them understand and discover places and experiences and knowledge, so they can further enjoy the experience of being here. Well that was long haha. Sorry for any bad english.

Yep, I did that road in an underpowered rental car. I remember driving around the twists and turns in thick low cloud. The road down to the rocky promontory of Punta de Teno is fun. Cliffs on the left with nets catching the falling boulders. The north of the island is all built on landslip from El Teide. Banana liquer sounds good. Puddy cat. No gutters on the old houses, the rain drips straight down.
That’s really interesting re the north of the island all formed from landslip, and I didn’t even clock on to the absence of gutters!
The banana liquor is really good- so much so that it’s nicest neat👌🏻

We visited the dragon tree in 2018. Crazy looking tree, but a great place to visit. A couple of places/things to look at are the enormous cliffs at Los Gigantes and the stone piles stacked up on the beach opposite El Castillo San Felipe in Puerto Del La Cruz. Oh, and driving through the clouds at San Cristobal de La Laguna near Tenerife north airport. That is the airport where 2 jumbo jets collided on the runway in 1977 killing all on board.
Just got back from Tenerife - nice one on the Casa Del Drago tip! Had an amazing lunch there right under the tree :D

Good cafe find Monika! The terrain is beautiful and quite varied in temperature and weather. Addin some personal observations too brings the armosphere of the town to life, not just the touristy bits. Well done to both of you and hope the liquer went down well .

22:00 In the Tuxedo Kitty....Freddie was not amused Monika teased him...so funny.. I had one like that she adopted me I named her after a Beatles song...Dear Prudence ....Prudence...Pookie...what a sweetie she was she was a stray I could not leave behind in a field next to my Parents home . I had a 1967 VW Bus and she bonded with me one night on the way back to Calif Coast while we were camped out in it in a bit of a snow storm in Tehachapi , Calif...she got cold and decided I was alright and crawled under my sleeping bag to sleep next to my tummy she was my little sweetheart until she passed away many years later...maybe we get them all back someday...hope so...

Hi Freddie, Great vid. You are a true enthusiast for most things 2 and 4 wheel. I guess you have Googled Ural by now. Licenced to Russia in about 1940 from BMW.and built ever since.There are a few Round in the UK ( my daughter had one last year) they are a bit marmite they look cool but poor electrics and basic carbs together with low power probably make them not a goid choice for a daily. Love the video, love Trnerife.

Another brilliant video Freddie I’ve actually never been to that town before or seen that beautiful tree so thank you for sharing with us there’s a really good place to check out it’s a coastal walk starting at la caleta to callao salvaje and on the way you will pass homes built in to the caves and a hippie village built out of pallet wood 🏍🏍🇬🇧

I see that you are into cars I also go about looking at old ones on the Island ...About 10/15 years back just beside the Gran Tinerife hotel at the casino side we visited a car museum , mostly old Mercs.Its been away for years I have tried to find out what happened to it but no joy...why not try and find out...Cheers from a cold wet Glasgow............
