The Fishing Village of La Caleta | Finally Dropping the Motorbike off to be Repaired | Our Next Car?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2021
- I finally decided I couldn’t wait any longer as the Triumph Bonneville had been sounding like it was about to break down at any moment. I booked it in for repairs at my local motorcycle mechanic at Bike Zone in Tenerife.
I was amazed at how large the garage was; full of Harley Davidsons, and also some Ducatis and other bikes. There must’ve been over 45 motorcycles and 10 cars or so there. They also have a number of cars and motorbikes for sale- including two that really interested me; a Jeep Wrangler (4.0 Petrol) and a Harley Davidson Softail Deluxe (I think!).
After that, Monika and I headed off to the upmarket fishing village of La Caleta, on the South East coast of Tenerife. It's just up the coast from the touristy areas of Costa Adeje, Las Americas etc. We stop for brunch at a great little restaurant called Bloom, and then go for a walk along the coast.
I then show mine and Monika’s favourite winter riding jacket from Garibaldi- they do this model for men and women and we very highly recommend it!
And we wrap it up with a Canadian speciality; Banana Liquor!

I enjoy your vlogs, and many thanks for speaking in a clear and intelligible manner, unlike many Btitts that make NO effort to do so.
I also like your choice of music, and your partner is such a wonderful co-pilot.
I moved to the North of the island 6 years ago, and always tell myself it was the best decision I have made.
Happy exploration, and keep up the good work.
Thanks so much Robert, that’s very kind if you to say so!🙂
It really is a paradise island👌🏻
Thanks Robert, have a great day!
Loving your films as we've not had a foreign holiday for a couple of years. Wish I had my Thruxton over there in the sunshine. 😎 Cool persols too👍
Thanks Robert! Ooooooo I don’t want to rub it in, but the Thruxton on these roads… riding heaven🙂❤️🏍🤘🏻
You guys are living your best lives. Loved Tenerife ❤️. Beautiful place.
Love these Tenerife videos. It's so much fun virtually discovering new places along with y'all.
So glad you’re enjoying it, thanks Reuben!🙂
I'll get it there for 8 am , good morning it's 9 am just taking the bonnie in 😅
Absolutely pathetic of me- I have become the exact type of person that I hate!!😆
La Caleta is where we stayed in Tenerife when we went to Tenerife lovely place, we liked it and fish resteraunts fab
Good luck with the bike repairs, I had my T100 in at Triumph yesterday for a remap (new Iron Head exhausts fitted). Lovely little village walk about and the weather looks fantastic. We are off to Caffeine and Machine tomorrow on your recommendation from an earlier vlog.
Looking forward to see how your repairs turn out in the next instalment.n
Great modification for the T100 Shane!🙂👌🏻🏍
You’ll love C&F- apparently the Aston Martin and neighbouring race teams often pop in for lunch on week days!🙂
I drove a late 90s wrangler and while it was not my most reliable vehicle it was a TON OF FUN and I think you would hugely enjoy your time with it. Maybe less so in Britain, but would be perfect for the weather in Tenerife
Great fun to watch, I must get back to Teneriffe again.
Really glad you enjoyed it Kevin!🙂
We went to La Caleta just two days ago in the morning. Very nice place to be, but could imagine it would very full of tourist later the day/ evening. 😉
Btw, we had a "Leche y Leche" at Bloom. Sad to say, this were the most expensive one we ever had! For a tiny coffee they took almost 100% more than others. 🤔 Anyway the place was quite ok.
Have a good time at Tenerife!! Unfortuately we must leave on sunday this beautiful Island to go back to "reality".
Ok it’s about time we had a video by Monika Freddie 👍
Watching this in Stoke whilst it pouring with rain…I’m so jealous 👍😎
Same here in Liverpool.
I’ll try to not rub it in too much Alan!😆
Awesome video and awesome content can’t wait for the next video Thanks Freddie and Monica
Thanks Jason!🙂
My husband and me love your videos, I’m from Tenerife and he loved it there, we are now living in Uk but we’ll be back very soon in November for holidays, love to see how you guys enjoy the island ✨✨
The 4 litre straight 6 and the later 3*6 litre v6s are bulletproof engines Freddie, much better and more refined than the 2*5 and 2*8 diesels. Loving these videos of Tenerife and the UK ones and eagerly waiting for Lithuania. Good work you two.
Oh gosh! I had forgotten all about Cobana liquer; we were so taken with it that we brought several bottles back from our holiday in 1978... that's got me searching the internet for it!
Congrats. You've adopted the Med attitude to punctuality already. Booked in for 8 am...leave home at 9 am. Great vids.
I was hoping no one would clock on to that!!😆. The reality is I arrived closer to 10am. What’s happened to me!!
As a new subscriber can I just say how much I'm loving your videos and relaxed manner. Seeing La Caleta in all its glory was a treat for me I spent some time there about 25 years ago and it doesn't seem to have changed much, breakfast on the front overlooking the sea, magic, I really must revisit the place. Keep up the good work.
Beautifully clean motorcycle workshop. If i was doing fluid would do discs and pads at same time. Clunking prob cush bearings in rear sprocket.
Be lovely again when sorted. Unfortunately these machines do need a thorough going over once a year for safety alone matey
You went straight past that Mk1 Versys , ideal bike for where you are !
I was kicking myself afterwards for missing it!
So look forward to your videos, and they never dissapoint, just brilliant
Absolutely love your videos. I have a t100 in Colorado. You both do a great job ! Very entertaining and informative.
Hopefully heading for Tenerife in 4 weeks , La Calleta is great for swimming
I bet you’re counting down the days Ken!!😀
As a former bartender I would recommend trying the banana liqueur two different ways: Cold, over ice with soda water and a bit of cream like what we refer to in the US as an Italian soda or Hot in a mug with some steamed milk. Obviously non-dairy milk alternatives (almond, soy, coconut milks) can be used.
Wow! Thank you so much Kurt!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Not to everyone’s tastes but also definitely worth trying the Ron Miel or ‘Honey rum’ on ice after dinner too!
@@jamesbaker3241 Thanks James, I'll add this to my list:)
Beautiful scenery, 😁 thanks to you both 😁😁😁
The mechanic spoke good English.
Jeep Wrangler: be wary. I had a 1993 4.0 Ltd manual from 2000 to 2010. Rear axle problems, failed gearbox, 18 mpg. It was a low mileage one when I bought it. Just over 30,000 miles. This has 245,000 km on it! What's more, it has a tow bar. Jesus! Honestly, there are far better options. It will cost you a fortune to keep it running. If you're worried about your bike bill, do not buy a Jeep Wrangler.
I really like that Garibaldi jacket.
Great video.
Hi Mr Dobbs. I watched you review on the Garibaldi jacket. Ordered one the same day. Arrived the next day. What a lovely jacket. Very warm and the build quality is excellent. A good recommendation. Bought mine from Salt Flats Clothing in the UK. They have the Garibaldi size chart on the web page too. The jacket is on sale at £150. So a great bargain too... Thank you for the heads up.
Finally wait is over😄 the show is here😍😍😍 thank you🕺🏼 lets watch it
Thanks Mohd, I hope you enjoy it!🙂🙌🏻🙌🏻
Freddie Dobbs ofcourse I do sir!! In fact I keep waiting your video.. I really enjoyed it every single video and I will!! keep going sir!!! you doing great!!
Lovin it. I remember that liqueur from years back, very easy drinking.
Loving the films and love Tenerife. Buy chance we were in woolacombe just before you and now in Tenerife. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Try the Bienmesabe dessert, it’s great and you can always buy a bottle to take home!
Another wonderful video. I look forward to hearing about the Bonnie repairs.
Thanks Marc, I will definitely keep you posted!🙂
Another very entertaining vid, well done Freddie and Monika. You do need to keep up the bike maintenance. If you should brake a chain for instance, it could be disaster. Ride safe.
Loved this video Freddie. I also love “outfit of the day” and Monica’s cream outfit was lovely. Xx
Thanks very much Susan!🙂
Good stuff guys, the less expensive the Bonny repairs cost, the more banana Tequila ! win win..Loving the vlogs, stay safe, Cheers
Wow…. It’s expensive there….
That jeep here in Australia would be about $2000…. It looked a bit rusty.
It does look like a great place to own a convertible thou…
That’s so eye opening!!
In the UK, it’d be £6-7k I think- all vehicles here seem to be expensive- possibly why so many old ones are still happily skipping along!
I need to get out to Oz- that is BRILLIANT!!!
I’m guessing it’s a rarity on the island hence the mark up. Here in the states they’re a dime a dozen. Personally, I’d love an old Cherokee with the 4.0 motor to go off roading. But the convertible nature of the wrangler combined with island living is quite appealing!
Love your videos ... we are lover of road trip some many times SouthWest England to south Italy was lovely road trip crossing France Switzerland and arrived in Italy 🇮🇹 long drive
Loving these videos as someone who also loves the Canaries ☀️
Enjoyed the blog
Always a nervous time when the Bike is in for repairs and not really knowing what the eventual cost will be, good luck Freddie 👍
I will bet that you’ll be surprised at the cost for fixing the Bonneville. Labor is cheap in Spain.
I reeeeeally hope you’re right Eric!!🙂🤞🏻🤞🏻
It isn't that cheap. Cheaper in Portugal.
Nice one.....
Fingers crossed 🤞 for the Bonneville, That is a beautiful place to fish or swim 👍
Thanks Brian!!🤞🏻🤞🏻
Loving the vlogs Freddie
Liked!
Sometimes a worn chain can make a clunking and clicking noise when there is a tight spot on it.
Interesting! That’d be s dream scenario if it’s just the chain and sprockets!🤞🏻🤞🏻
All the best for the bike Freddie.
Hi Freddie, really enjoying your videos. You make Tenerife much more attractive than my memories of being there thirty years ago.
I am sure you have mentioned it before but I am not sure why you and Monica are in Tenerife.
Continue to enjoy your stay there.
Thanks very much Paul! The sun and sea and we both fancied a change of scenery🙂
@@FreddieDobbs Am I remembering correctly that you said you were there for 9 months? if so, how are you getting around the 90 day rule?
@@MrMarc37i yea I was wondering,Brexit sucks
@@MrMarc37i I've been incredibly lucky and been able to get an Irish passport (my dad was born in Northern Ireland), and Monika's Lithuanian.
@@FreddieDobbs Ahh... That explains it. Thanks Freddie
Binge watching these until next sahara vid..👍👍👍
Hope the bike invoice is not too painful. The Jeep is crazy money though. Really enjoying the videos. Looking forward to the next one. Take care you two. 👍
Thanks very much Paul! Vehicles are significantly more expensive here- i think it’s an island thing, but you are absolutely right!
Great video guys look forward to the next one ride safe!!😎
Thanks Jason!
Brilliant video again.
The Ukanka banana liquor is my go too and is 20% I find it doesn't have the same alcohol burn taste the rest all have.
Wonderfull, we really enjoy being with you both on your trips, will try to get out there next year, ps please wear gloves on your bike .All the best. Jerry & Carla
Thanks Jerry, and a very fair point on the gloves!🙂👌🏻
Hey man! Like ur vids, currently on holidays in Tenerife. There's a rally going on today and tomorrow, maybe some nice content for you. Cheers!
Freddie ,loving your content here specially those cars you spot,, new subscriber
Hope you get it done cheap but right, nothing worse than a surprise bill, unless it's cheaper. Looking forward to seeing what was wrong and some more of the Island 🏝️
Thanks very much Dale- I’m really desperate to get it back!!
Hi, HOOOOORAR , FOR THE BONNEVILLE , it deserves to run on a steak dinner, on it,s next outing . Nice place a great video , really peeeeeeeeeeee ing me off as it is bucketing down here on the south coast and the bottom of the rib needs cleaning for next year . Well lets hope there is some thing left in the kitty for the other three of you , and look forward to the next video . Take care and have fun in the sun and drive safe .
It has been a veeeeeery long overdue repair!
I’ve heard it’s been wet, but not too cold in the UK!
Good luck cleaning the rib (all part of the fun!)😀
This is where we always stay in Tenerife
I wish you good luck with the Jeep!
Thanks!!🙂
Looks like u both living your best life ,were due in tenerife 8th Nov cant wait
Really loving every day!🙂. Have a great time when you’re here- everything’s open now so great gibes all round!👌🏻
Haha, I know you corrected it but it did make me smile when you were hoping the mechanic would speak Spanish. No time for ingles now tu hablas Espanol.
I had a last minute freak out and was too scared to try my Spanish!😆
I was watching this video while getting ready for work. Now I just want to be on holiday drinking Banana Liqueurs. Thank you for another great video Freddie.
Good question Monika I was thinking the same thing ,the fiat must be full of bike stuff
That jeep is crazy expensive! They must go for more in Europe.
It's a remote island off the coast of Africa. Probably not reflective of the European market to be fair!
Cars are overly expensive here.. we have vat igic at 7% but still more expensive than mainland but if you import they add a large tax on it . It's a protected market
If you question it you just get the old Tenerife shrug. (Which is the answer to a lot of questions here . That or the blank stare which is another firm favourite)
@@richardbartlett6932 I thought this may be the case, that does explain it! Thanks Richard🙂
@@FreddieDobbs to be fair Freddie, it's probably a sound investment as them old American land rovers go on for years 😁
Very dangerous that Banana Liqueur. 🤪 l expect they do a 'cream' version of it too which will be even more supp-able! Lol
oh look a HD for sale.. i see Freddies new bike and next video :D
interested why you would by a 4ltr petrol on such a small island? feels like buying a Chelsea tractor in the UK!
Not sure it it is your thing, Canary Isles rum was a favourite of mine. Either as a shot or a cocktail base.
Thanks Russ, absolutely I’ll try this! Thanks🙂
I take it they service all sorts, just be careful they don't stich u up ,or botch it 🤔👍
I hope so- on both counts!!🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Forget the Wrangler, you know a Defender would be perfect.... 😂👍
Ahhhh THIS is my dilemma- choosing between the two!
@@FreddieDobbs If in doubt, buy both 😃
Lovely stuff as always, now you got a feel of what a fishing village looks like. The black sand and scattered rocks is the usual landscape of our beaches.
Good place to drop the bike off, those guys know what they are doing and are also close to you location.
I could recommend some other driking stuff if you wanna try them all local as far as im concerned, good wines, rums and other liquors.
On the west coast sea live subject, the west coast of the island is one of the three places on the planet qualified as a whale sanctuary, lots and lots of sight seeing of different types of whales, dolphins and much more.
I´ve seen now you are also into cars, im a petrolhead myself. We are very passionate about rally racing wich is the main motorsport here and you can see why riding our roads haha. And yeah, you will see a lot of classic cars everywhere being used daily, some of them looking like new and some of them also tuned to have fun smashing the backroads.
Anyway see ya next time!
I’m really glad you rate the garage- hopefully I’ll have the bike back soon!🙂🤞🏻
Ahhhh I was wondering why there are so many rally cars here- its incredible!🤩👌🏻
The sea life blows my mind here- so many whales and dolphins, it’s incredible!
@@FreddieDobbs Yeah in my experience from friends they might not be the cheapest garage but they will surely fix everything that's wrong, they've been running since 2007. Hope you get the bike back soon in tip top condition.
good luck with the bike , I hope chains are cheaper than belts !
Thanks John! Interesting- I thought belts would be cheaper!
thanks for the reply,
just checked the invoice ,it was £200 for the belt .....and £232 to fit + vat, which I don't think you will have to pay, look forward to the next one, vid that is !
@@johnniel8116 I'm very curious to find out- the chain on the Bonneville is thin due to it's lack of power, so should be on the cheaper end of the spectrum- I hope!
Another vid! yay!
Excellent as always. I never saw what your work was in Tenerife? or is it just YT? Plus are you going to get all the papers, NIE etc to stay more than 90 days? would make great content!
It’s Tenerife,did they say which Monday ?
You're next report should be very interesting.
Hope the cost of the bike repairs not too painful. When I used to be in Tenerife the popular drink was a Cortardo Condesada. Wonder if they still do them? Thanks for another great vlog. Cheers.
Thanks John- I am a bit nervous! Ooooo I’ve never heard of that drink, but it’ll be a mission of mind to find it!😀
Good stuff Freddie. Why do you not get that starter issued sorted and throw in a good service. Could have worked out cheaper by getting it all done at the same time. Thanks guys.
Very pathetic penny pinching by me- I know it makes no real sense!
On the plus- there hasn’t been one starting issue in five weeks now!😀
@@FreddieDobbs must be the warm weather keeping the starter motor happy😎. All the best Freddie.
@@markhenry192 I was thinking if this could be the reason!
I like your comments and reviews of the gear you have, especially because many of them are not super high cost items - some good tips. I'd been about to ask you why you don't ever mention women's bike gear, and then in this video, you mentioned Monica's jacket. Seriously, some reviews of bike gear for women would be good. I have found that usually there's lots of good reviews about men's bike gear online but not so many for women's. For women riders, or for men who often take their female partners as a pillion, this would be really useful in the future, although I imagine not so easy to do while you're in Tenerife. Keep up the nice videos.
Thanks Ian and I do completely agree- it’s just hard persuading Monika to do her gear segment as she’s shy, although I am on the case🙂
Really enjoyed the video and the Garabaldi jacket is it true to size? I use normal jacket as a medium, would you recommended staying at medium up move up to Large? Cheers, jacket is a great price
Did you say that Jeep had 245,000 plus miles or 24,000 plus miles for 10,000 dollars , too high for high mileage and if it has 24,000 maybe, it has rust and front damage so you can counter that price.
245k km, thanks for the tip Juan!🙂🙌🏻
I would imagine the knocking is the rear wheel bearings, an easy fix
Interesting- that was the mechanic’s first guess too! Thanks🙂🙌🏻
I know, because I had exactly the same issue with a yamaha fazer a few years back. It makes a right racket doesnt it!? but its not as bad as it sounds.
@@baldrick650 It's so bad- also embarrassing now it's so loud!😆
So, what were the problems and did it cost a lot to repair?
The banana stuff sounds a bit like a bottle of pineapple wine me and our circle of friends always used to take to each others house as the "I've brought a bottle". Not sure it ever got opened or where is resides today. P.S. Don't start riding around without a jacket and gloves Freddie. It only takes one "incident" and you will be peeling your skin off the hot tarmac! Just saying.
Everything is 5 mins away in Teneerife.
True!
You would be better with the Toyota 4 runner next to it.
Good shout!
Should have fixed it yourself and done a mini series on it
Is that a Hermes belt , looks great on you where did you buy it from ?
Ooh first to comment 😁
Gold medal!😀🥇
I reckn 275 or 325 with wheel bearings.
Really appreciate this!
How long can you stay on UK number plates, I had a feeling there was some sort of rule about that. I've got dual passports as well, I'm thinking of packing my bags. Great stuff.
28 days by Spanish law.
@@mike-A299 I found this online but not sure about it. Vehicles from the UK can be temporarily imported into Spain for up to six months in any period of 12 months. In order to stay on the right side of the law, the following documents should always be carried: Full, valid UK driving licence. Proof of ID (passport)
That's only true as a tourist. As a Brit, you are not allowed to stay for more than 3 months through a 6 month period. Anyone stating over 30 days needs to apply for residency (EU or otherwise). Once a resident, you cannot drive a foreign registered vehicle after 28 days.
Since Brexit (for British anyway), you will also need to take a Spanish driving test if you plan to stay over 6 months too.
I've previously lived in Spain and will move back to Barcelona soon. It's very strict.
@@mike-A299 I do have a Republic of Ireland passport, does that passport on its own make me still an EU citizen , I will do some studying.
Yes, as a holder of an EU passport, you are still an EU citizen (lucky you). Studying is theoretically open to third countries too through a student visa, though you won't need this. If you're studying at degree or masters level, you'll need your qualifications apostilled.
😁👍
Awesome vlog again guys hope the Bonnie isn't to pricey and those jackets look just the for back here in the chilly UK do you have to re wax them or anything ? Cheers : )
They’re incredible jackets- they’re “waxed cotton look” and are actually textile, so zero maintenance!🙂👌🏻👌🏻
@@FreddieDobbs excellent !
Unspoilt and the oceanic wildlife obviously have no fear of humans Freddie, did you notice that Friendly Sea urchin snuggling in on your shirt collar did it drink any of that banana liquor?
Gary de la Toon
It really is full of fish, whales and dolphins (and turtles too- although I haven’t seen one yet!).
One shot for me, and one for thd sea urchin!😆
Freddie, maybe I should send you a socket set for xmas :)
I did actually bring my tools and even bike lift, but I don’t have a chain tool (and being completely honest- I’ve never changed a chain and sprockets!)
Hello Freddie are you still in Tenerife? Fancy meeting for a coffee and a possible collaboration?
Hi Freddie, I was thinking of a Garibaldi jacket as you highly recommend, but do you think the sizing comes accurate, as they are labeled L XL etc, Im a 42 chest sometimes need XL...your thoughts invited....love the vids by the way and good luck with getting the bike repaired..
Hi Chris,
I think the sizing’s pretty accurate. I’m 6’1 and 80kg and it’s perfect.
I think I’m a 40” chest, but I think you’ll be fine with an L too🙂👌🏻
I would always steer clear of any 4x4 thats been lifted. the handling will be that bad it will be like driving in jelly. Look on ebay motors Its probs only worth £6k if its straight.
What are you comparing the prices too.. if it's anywhere other than the canaries it's irreverent
I think you mean Irrelevant.
Good point- I’d probably stick to a standard one too when it came down to it. You are spot on, but I’ve found out that island prices really are quite different- it’s interesting how some things are much much cheaper here, but a few things are more!
What do you think to the new street twin? Too modern?… also Monika is looking quite the Bond girl in that Mediterranean setting
You’ve made Monika’s day with this comment!!😀🙋🏼♀️
The 2019 Street Twin is one of my absolute favourite bikes- the most beautiful handling and so easy to ride, with the smoothest power and gear change (I haven’t tried the 2021 yet). If I had to say a downside to it- and I’m being reeeeeeally picky- the Interceptor is more characterful
@@FreddieDobbs yes I know what you mean. I bet there is a quality difference though
Have you ever said why you went to Tenerife? Is it just a long holiday?
The sun, sea and a change of scenery🙂🌴👌🏻
We have our apartment here until May, and we’ll just see how we feel after that!
I see you're stickng to the 'make sure there's a good cafe on your itinerary' and are listening to the female requests for suitable biking gear. Sounds like the Bonneville needs a good thorough overhaul - may be not just the brake fluid, chain, rear sprocket and clunking noise! Also I'd advise steering clear of the Wrangler it's done well to get this far but looks well overpriced at €10,000! Go for a Toyota.
Definitely avoid that Wrangler.
How do people afford to do this? It’s my dream. Are you guys working out there or do you own a business back in England?
