My Triumph Bonneville is finally back with me after having its chain, sprockets and brake fluid replaced by the mechanic in Tenerife. It feels brilliant to have it back, and the repair bill of £207 was very reasonable.
There’s almost no time to enjoy the Bonneville, as Monika and I headed to the capital of Tenerife to pick up a Harley Davidson Pan America. This is the first ever adventure motorbike I’ve tried.
I give my first impressions on the Pan America, and Monika and I stop off for a coffee in the centre of Santa Cruz.

Love your videos Freddie and Monica. The enthusiasm, passion is great. Just started getting into biking in the last few months and everyday I spend an hour or so looking at bikes/ watching videos. THANK YOU for your videos!
Great to see you back road testing bikes. Your a very good travel vlogger, but your enthusiasm really comes over when you’re on a new machine. Nice to see you’ve got your Triumph back. Tenerife looks a great place to road test a new machine. Excellent work.
Hugely appreciated, thanks John!🙂
Great video Freddie, loving the Tenerife tours hunting down the classic cars. Keep up the good work. Best Lloyd.
Really enjoyed this video Freddie, glad you got the triumph back and that it was cheap to repair. I’m not typically a Harley fan myself as I have a BMW s1000rr but so far, I’m impressed with this bike. Looks like you guys are having a great time. Would love to do some touring round these islands myself, someday.
Keep up the amazing content and enjoy.
In response to someone else asking for longer videos I liked this shorter one as it’s easier to fit into my day. Longer videos take more planning to fit in 🇬🇧🏍
Great to hear your feedback too Stewy!!🙌🏻🙌🏻
@@FreddieDobbs Stewy is being selfish! We need longer videos of at least 4 hours in length around 3 - 4 times a-week. 😂
@@KeithChegwin24 I'm VERY glad to hear it!😆
Love your enthusiasm and the way you get excited.
Really enjoying your videos, can’t wait to see how you get on with this bike. I really like your combination of bike related items and touring. The way interesting cars stop you in your track is exactly how I react, Monika is as understanding as my wife is and cake solves all 😉😉
I saw the pan America for the first time at the last round of the British superbikes at brands Hatch, I’ve never been a Harley Davison fan but I was super impressed with the fit and finish. It was so much better seeing it close up rather than the pictures I’ve seen.
I completely agree- it is a surprisingly handsome bike in the flesh!
Hey Freddie: The first time I saw you was your video on the Road King Special, deadwood green. That's the reason I watched. You were critiquing the very bike I wanted to get. That is until I first began learning about the Pan Am Special. This is now my favorite. Great job putting out this one.
Freddie I have the Pan America and I love it , I am 5 11 and shorter legs and I get on the left side easy. I love your videos amigo you ROCK!!
Another great one guys! I picked up my 2017 Triumph T100 today, so looking at even more interest to your videos lol
Congrats on your new bike!!!
Love your videos, no matter what you do or where you are they all have a really feel good message👍
Really appreciated, thanks!
Great video, I ordered mine back in July hoping it’s here in December can’t wait to get riding it!!
Hey Freddie and Monica. Welcome to Tenerife, I am loving your vlogs and as an old biker myself (Africa twin 750) It's great to see and hear your enthusiasm on the subject. Keep up the great vlogs. I have subscribed. All the best.
Thanks so much!!🙂🙌🏻
AT750- that’s a special bike!❤️👌🏻
Another awesome awesome vid, well done guys great camera work, edit and music as usual 👌 and wow watermelon 🍉 pie! I think I need to visit Tenerife 😉🌴
Great video- love to see your thoughts on that bobber
Really enjoy following your adventure. Love the Sunday morning watch with a coffee ☕ have a great day
Thanks so much!
It’s good to see you have your Bonneville back. That Harley looks a good fit for you, looking forward to your next report on it.
Thanks Shane, I’m delighted to have the Bonneville back! My eyes have been opened to adventure bikes😳
I have always fancied an adventure bike.
The bike, looks like a great fit for you and Tenerife. Looks great in all black 👍🏼Love your holiday vibe videos ☀️
Really appreciate it! I’d spec it in all black if I bought it🙂👌🏻
I've always liked adventure bikes over any other for their capabilities and comfort.. This is my preference after riding sports bikes and cruisers before hand. Then long way round came out and the BMW GS were the best things in my mind. Last year the long way up showed how Harley Davidson have adapted and changed from just being cruisers and I have to say I'm very impressed with their bikes.
Your positive feedback is just reinforcing my opinion. Great videos by the way 👍
I’m really glad you found the video useful Darren- I’m blown away by the bike!
Another great video! PanAmerica is not my style but I can see its appeal. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
And congratulations on getting the Bonneville back! It looks great, and actually sounds better! See you in the next one! Cheers!
The Bonneville really does- it sounds healthy again, I’m delighted!
Thanks Marc🙂
Great video. Looking forward to the weekend ride 👍
Very glad this channel appeared in my recommendations. Really enjoying your content.
Delighted you found it Dan!🙂
What a journey you young couple are on and you work tremendously as a team. I am sure you made sacrifices to pursue the relocation to Tenerife and leaving London right now (Where I live) was a great move. I toured North Africa on my GS when I was about your age, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya (Gaddafi time), No UA-cam then! Now deep into the rat race, I get occasional time on the GS (had it since 99) , but watching the videos you both produce gives me that weekly bike buzz. As an aside I have always run a Triumph alongside the GS - paired perfection. Thanks again and keep going!
Thanks so much Jim!🙂
Wow- a GS in North Africa sounds like an experience of a lifetime👌🏻
I must try a GS to compare to the Harley
Hello you 2, Glad to see the Bonnie back home and I think I might bring mine over to Tenerife for any work as my local Triumph dealer charges a lot more labour and a good excuse to visit. Just ordered my Sizzapp thanks for the discount came out at £136.35 delivered bargain.
Well must admit the Harley looks good, comfortable, and simply to ride, looking forward to further reviews.
Super camera work Monika even if the director gets over enthusiastic at times.
Take care
Thanks Richard, I’m delighted to have the Bonnie back, and I was amazed at labour costs!😳
I do now definitely “get” adventure bikes, they feel like the ultimate bike👌🏻
Hey Freddie! Love the videos and motorcycle. I like the music tho. But I couldn't find the music anywhere. Would love to know where you got the playlist I want to listen while I'm riding my motorcycle
Great Vlog Freddie be interested to here your final review of the Pan American I enjoyed my test ride of this bike and was easy to ride once on the move…but it’s more suited to the taller rider.👍🏻
I found myself being a shorter rider 5/6 at times felt getting on and of a (Horse) even with the electronic suspension adjustment but overall a good quality fit and finish and a nice ride.
Glad to hear your feedback at 5’6 Mark- really appreciated!
I absolutely love the Pan America❤️👌🏻🏍
Awesome video and awesome content can’t wait for the next video Thanks Freddie and Monica
Thanks Jason!
That Freddie Dobbs walk is such a distinctive walk :)
Another great video.
I’ll choose to take that as s compliment!😆🚶
@@FreddieDobbs Yes, no offence intended. Just a distinctive walk when carrying the helmet. It's great
Another great vid mate glad you got the Bonny back but I have to say you look so good on the Harley ‘suits you can’t wait for next vid stay safe you two
Thanks very much Phil!
Looks good guys, looking forward to the next video. Thanks for channel.
Thanks Debra!🙂
I have one of these and is an excellent everyday and touring bike. The modes work well and the added customisable modes allows for a little more fun. Self adjusting valves also make this easy and cheap to maintain. I also do trail riding rather than full off road) and this makes it an ideal bike to go exploring around the destination. I have put 4400 KMS on it since August. Some teething problems, to be resolved with a software update soon, (Screen font size, nav app and some sensor thresholds need adjusting ) but no breaks or issues to date.
Thank you so much for your owner’s insight!
Self adjusting valves- INCREDIBLE!!!!😳
Ty for this review Freddie, this is a bike I am interested in so I'll be watching your reviews intently. Go well, be safe. Hi Monica.
Thanks Michael- I hope you find the next video useful!🙂
Thanks Freddie & Monika for an entertaining vlog as usual, especially as i have been in Hospital for the past week due to a heart attack I've had,was very unexpected, had surgery so just need some recovery time, but miss riding my Trident so your vids are helping, have you thought of loaning some Triumphs from the dealer to test ride/review(maybe the Trident),love the sound of the Harley👍
I wish you the speediest recovery Adrian!🙂
I’ll try and borrow a Triumph next- I’m curious about the Trident
Thanks for reply Freddie &, msg, look forward to your next vid, happy riding👍
Had many holidays in Tenerife hope to see you around we like lots gigantes
Love your vloggs. Enjoy yourselves and keep safe guys
Hi Freddie, I have a Royal Enfeild Himalayan, first bike I have ridden in 34yrs, as soon as I sat on it it felt right, ordered 1 as soon as I got back to the dealership, I've had mine 1 week and it has 350ks on it already, it's enough for me, not too much to go wrong , not to much plastic and am getting 30km per litter fuel.ecomany, big isn't always best, my opinion, look forward to your next video, thanks to you both 😀
A great choice! Mine's on 800km and very happy. I cruise so my 2019 Goldwing provides the comfort for that but it can't do what the Himalayan can. Here in Andalucía there are countless tracks over the hills and the Himalayan is the best bike for that ... and popping down the shops!
@@aeroplod ,I'm at the bottom of newzealand, have gravel roads hills etc, but they are used by cars and trucks, every day, have to be really careful
Couldn’t agree more- I had a Himalayan on test back in December and it’s possibly the most fun I’ve ever had, and it is brilliant fun off roading too!😀
100% I’d buy one❤️👌🏻🏍
I knew the clunk was the tight spot on the chain. At least the bill wasn't too bad.
The Pan-America looks a beauty of a tourer to me, think I would still prefer a Sport Glide though.
Those old Landcruisers really are so retro cool
I had no idea just a poor chain could destroy a bike’s feel so much!
Nice one Freddie. Bike suits you. Good to see some different bike reviews. You should go next door and hire a Tiger for comparison.
I’m coming to Tenerife next Friday. I’ll give you a wave if I see you out and about.
I thought I had to at least try one adventure bike!😆. I now get them 100%!
Please do, and have a BRILLIANT time!🙂👋🏻
5'7" and I've ridden one on and off road without any issues
Thanks for sharing this🙂🙌🏻🙌🏻
Look forward to more on the Pan America. Tempted to chop my Streetbob in for one, found it a little tall in the showroom but not sure if it was on the higher seat position. being 5"10 I might have to get the adaptive ride height suspension that lowers 2" when you stop (£600) looks like your bike had that although I would not think you would need it. Nice to see how it looks on the alloy wheels as well, prefer them as I would never ever ride it off road like most I expect. Keep the shows coming, quite fancy a holiday there now.
You’d have no issue at all a 5’10 Stephen- it was probably on the higher setting when you tried it.
Oooooooh that’s a huge decision- Streetbob for a PA!
You said Honda Africa twin Freudian slip actually they look more like a Honda transalp from the 80s with a few update like if you will injection and abs and traction control but pretty much the same animal for twice as much money of course
Bikerzone 07 in Las Chafiras has the best service in the island, you made a great choice 👍keep enjoying Tenerife
Great video Freddie 👍 I think it’s time you bought that street bob mate. I have a softail slim and been all over Europe on it. Customise it to your tastes, it’s part of the ownership experience 😎
Thanks Ian!
I am tempted🏍👌🏻👌🏻
I just subbed to your channel, you've got great content and your editing skills are top notch mate. I just found out from your London to Tenerife trip you lived in Belvedere, i'm over in Welling just a stones throw away. Keep up the smashing content mate, looking forward to new vids.
So glad you found the channel!🙂 Ah yes I know Welling well👌🏻
Thanks so much for the support🙌🏻🙌🏻
The Harley does look nice. As a returning rider (37 years in the wilderness) and at only 5’6” I can concur that adventure bikes can be slightly intimidating. So my first bike back was a CRF250Rally and after that was stolen my next and current ride is a Triumph Tiger900 Rally Pro (obviously picked the tallest option - due to its looks). It may be concerning when coming to a stop, however, when it is rolling it is sooooo comfortable, even to the point of riding 800 miles from Munich to Northamptonshire in 1 day, 15 hours - 5 countries! What’s not to like 👍
Took my missus on it for the first time (her first time on a bike my first time with a pillion for over 37 years) the other week, have to be honest the height was concerning while she was getting on but all was good.
Enjoy your weekend with the bike, I so need to have a month touring round Tenerife 😉
Ian
Back on Two Wheels
I hear so many good things about the Tiger 900! 800 in 24 hours is the biggest daily bike miles I’ve ever heard of- that is really incredible!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I’m glad you got out 2up and Monika certainly agrees- the elevated pillion position is a bit scary!
The Guanches farms reminded me a little of Incan circle farms in Peru I saw on TV once high up in the mountains. Pan America looks like a nice bike, wouldn't mind an adventure bike as a second bike, frankly wouldn't mind one of every bike but we mustn't be greedy!
Very interesting- I was wondering if there’d be similarities with Peru and that part of the world
Sounds like you are already tiring of the Triumph, oh dear poor old thing 😁 The only thing that gets me about a lot of new bikes and the Sportster S and Pan America are prime examples, is the controls look more like game consoles or TV remotes now. Not thick glove friendly for those winter mornings. It does suit you that style of bike, being so tall, but interested to see it being used 2 up, and what Monica thinks. Great video as always 👍
It’s a very good point re the controls. I think the indicator switch very poorly placed on the Pan America.
Interestingly, Monika far prefers the Bonneville and cruiser bikes for pillion comfort over the Pan America.
Love your videos. Very cool(both of you).
I have a street glide and that looks heavy 🤣 but you make it look easy. Great job 👍🏼❤️💪🏼🤙🏼
Ahhh yes, driving one’s little Fiat wearing hipster rolled jeans, stopping at a cafe for a piece of gourmet watermelon pie and a cappuccino - EXACTLY what Harley was shooting for! - 😂 Times change and Harley needs to, too, if they’re going to keep on keeping on - a bigger tent and more types of bikes like this PA. Fun review! ☮️😎
Love the vids, watched nearly all of them now. Dodgy subject to some but what’s the deal with the jabaroonie. Did you need them to drive to Tenerife.? Great formula you have especially using phones. Don’t change it ✌️👍
Good question- we’re both double jabbed. The only check we had was at Dover port, and then no checks anywhere else across the whole of Europe
about time you tried the adventure bikes Freddie. So pleased at your initial response. Look forward to your indepth comments.
Thanks Simon🙂
Hi chap........i'm a BMW R1200GSA owner and i'm totally in love with it ......however i really enjoyed this review of the "Pan America" and tin the new year after resettling back into brit life i'm going to take one out for a ride ...... feeling excited to ..........but i would never never swop my beloved Felicity ( my GS ) in any other bike .....but would consider adding to my collection...........owwww thanks .......
I’ve never heard of one disappointed GS owner- they do sound like the ultimate bike💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I traded my R1200GS for the Pan America and I love it! I hope you discover all the potential setting options. It’s a real hooligan with the traction control switched off! And the tank is aluminum if you haven’t figured that out yet.
“It’s a real hooligan”……hope Freddie doesn’t try to find out as ‘his ambition could exceed his talent’ (as Casey said about Rossi).
well done,,, your local bike shop = cheap as chips .. also about time credit is due to monika who has to patiently film all these videos ,, very smooth camera work and gives us something to watch better than telly ;;;
Lovely! Enjoying your content!!!! Thanx!
Great video Freddie I’ll be interested to see what you think about the Harley in your next video I’ve had 2 Adventure bikes both being Yamaha 1200 super ten but the Yamaha gave me and my partner backache that’s the only reason I never kept them so i will be interested to find out how the Harley is on your back as I’m thinking of going back to an adventure bike ?
Regards
Ed 🇬🇧🏍
Thanks Ed!🙂
I found it comfy, but Monika said she finds the Bonneville and cruisers better for pillion comfort
Hi Freddie watching this from a very wet Sunday morning in Cheshire enjoy yourselves cheers John
Thanks John!🙂
Yes Freddie, looks good, looking forward to next video. I think you are sold on getting one, if that's OK Monica? 👌
I’m blown away by it Ken!🙂❤️🏍👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I test rode a PA. Very fast. If you didn’t know the bike comes with an option of ride height adjustment….only bike around with that so shorter riders can ride it
Finally our bike has arrived 😆😍😍😍😍
Before you upload your in depth review of the HD PanAmerican can I suggest you take a look at the Million Dollar Bogan recent three part maybe four part review of this bike.
Nice Video Buddy!
Before you splash the cash Freddie, make sure you pop next door and try the Tiger 900 as well. :)
I test rided one lots of heat on the right side no quick shifter but aoart from that it goes but as an old HD rider not for me.
Thanks for the insight from an HD rider!🙂🙌🏻
Interesting- I’ve never tried s quickshifter
Nice introduction to your channel...I expect if your test riding a so called adventure bike that you may be riding some trails.. let's see the results & hear your thoughts. Thank you
Looks good with you!
Thanks Den!
Sad to hear about one dealer upset the local Triumph market, but they are too good not to make a come back.
I think the biggest hurdle Triumph have to overcome are their crappy dealers. Doesn’t matter how good the product might be if the service is so poor.
Agreed!
@@jasonk7072 very interesting feedback!🙌🏻
With the amount of buttons the Harley Davidson Pan America has on it's handlebars, it reminds me of the Honda Goldwing. Those have always had tons of buttons on their handlebars as well.
Have you heard from the owner of the Autobianchi yet? Would be nice if you could borrow it for a morning, or a day, to see what it is like, I'm genuinely curious myself.
Ahhhhh I never heard back from the Autobianchi owner!
@@FreddieDobbs That sucks!! Better luck next time. Glad to see the Triumph back, though.
Like the bike. I prefer the Harley to the Africa Twin personally but my favourite ADV is my 1250 GS. I know it’s ubiquitous but that’s because it is so good ! I tried them all. Triumph Tiger and KTM terrific as well. I think the Harley is competitive with them though and I can understand someone going for it - the Harley engine is very good , electronic suspension is good too and if you prefer the styling then go for it !
Brilliant feedback!
I’ve never met a disappointed GS owner yet!
Hi , Fun in the sun and a new test ride , where Monika is head heals above Freddie , it will be a ride with a view on the Harley . The repairs were a bargain for the price , as there is not VAT out there ? and 30 euros an hour . Are you going to declare the invoice at UK customs should you return . LOL . If you brought one out there , now I assume you would have to pay the UK vat on it . Thanks you both for another enthusiastic Sunday morning video . How about Monika following on , or ahead with a Fiabusa ? there is one on you tube .
I couldn’t believe the labour price!
It’s true- I think i would have duties to pay on any big purchase in Spain, if I brought it back to the UK.
I’ve seen the Fiabusa- Monika is appalled (but I LOVE it!😀)
Hi Freddie
Question, why do you always get off a bike on the 'high side'...Just interested, great vid. By the way any sight of the volcanic dust/smoke on La Palma from where you are ?
He lives in a country that drives on the left side of the road so riders tend to do it that way. Not all do it that way. Here in the USA we drive on the right side but motorcycle Police officers are trained to get on and off the bike to the high side so they are on the right side of the bike away from traffic.
So do I live in the UK , I reckon it is because he is 6'1" he is able to get off either side, Freddie will answer I am sure. Nothing to do with traffic flow. Its not important anyway, just an observation.
That’s a very good question and actually I don’t do it consciously- it’s the first time I’ve ever thought about it. To answer your question- there’s no logical reason why I do it!😆
No sign of smoke, but ai think they’re now opening back up to tourists so we will try and visit as I’d love to see it (I just don’t want to annoy the locals of La Palma and potentially get in the way)
What ever bike you ride , mopeds to big bikes every ride is an adventure from just going to the shop or riding around the world, the Harley looks good , thanks for brightening up another wet Sunday morning 😃👍
Couldn’t agree more!
Thanks Trevor🙂
An eternity later :) Glad to see the Bonnie back on the road.
Pla review the Norton Commando California....it’s the one with the ape hanger style handle bars.
Oh wow- if I can find one, I will!🙂🙌🏻
You should go to the auditorium, it has very good prices and highly recommended performances.
I’d never considered it for some reason, i ‘ll look into it!
your fun bike trials made me wonder some things about the sizzapp - can you transfer it to a different bike? for instance one you are renting because your own bike is in for repair or if you are on holiday? or if you own more than one bike? or would you have to purchase multiple ones?
Hi Stephanie,
Yes, it is possible to transfer sizzapp to a different bike, no problem with it 🙂
@@Sizzapp thank you !
Absolutely- 10 seconds to transfer it, super easy🙂👌🏻
Nice review in a great setting. £14000 in the UK.
Thanks David, I think it’s quite reasonably priced👌🏻
Sitting in the uk wanting to take my triumph tiger out but it’s lashing it down with rain and windy and then you pop up in Tenerife in the sunshine on a Harley pan America. NOT JEALOUS ONE BIT😉😉 enjoy you lucky bugger
Sorry Jay, I’ll try and not rub it in too much!😆
Great video. Still not convinced on Pan America looks but as you say, it’s all subjective. I hope HD doesn’t move their entire range towards the like it or leave it idea, as the main reason I like Harley’s is the ability to customise with aftermarket parts. Seems the newer HD models, Pan America, Sportster, 750 etc, apart from swapping pipes, leaves little scope for change 🤔
Very good point and I completely agree- tiny scope for personalisation by the looks of it.
The new Sportster looks like a completely uncompromising bike- purely for short rides I think.
As far as I am concerned the most beautiful modern bike is the newly announced Guzzi V100. I would buy anything until i've tried that one. Harley wise the old shovelheads are the best (most characterfull)
Imagine trying to take that leviathan off road. I once took a GS1200 out for a test ride, bloody awful slow on the motorway and would have spend half it's life laid on it's side when off roading. They are just too big too heavy but they are a nice pose for around town.
Very useful insight- I always think these big adventure bikes would be hellish off roading- WAY WAY too big!
@@FreddieDobbs The test is, sit on the bike and see how far you can tilt over without dropping it. It is not the same as when you're stood at the side. I have found this out too many times. It's painful when you scratch up your baby. Another thing I have learnt about this Harley is the battery and rectifier are very vulnerable without a sump guard fitted.
Slow on a mway? Are you mad? It has 143nm of torque? And the GS is one of the last bikes you'd buy for a pose?. They sell by the bucket loads because they offer a rapid, comfortable and agile ride, with wonderful slow speed balance, equally on home on a mway, country road or gravel road. Not sure you think folks buy them for off-road.
The exhaust on that new sportster is god-awful. But it looks incredible for the rest! Great vid Freddie.
Luvin that Harley guys especially in black to tall fer me though and does it work out cheaper to buy one in Tenerife than the UKI wonder it really suits you sir : D .
Thanks very much Malcolm!🙂
Good question re the price- I’ll check when I drop it off how the pricing compares to the UK’s £14k
What's the camera setup you are using? I'm looking at getting a setup for filming my rides and maybe some vlogs
Iphone 12pro max👌🏻

No way!😀🏡
Gracias Adrian!
Maybe adjust the seat up ? On the Pan American 🤔
I did try with both options, but I always slightly prefer lower seat heights (just incase I get in a tricky situation)
Amazing!
Looks good mate. Does it have a quick shifter?
I don’t think so, although I’ve never used one, but no- I don’t think it does
It’s a good looking machine. The suspension feature where it drops down when you come to a stop is excellent. I could do with that on the GSA.
See Freddie you never knew such a cool bike existed but now sat on it, you feel the bees knees and hopefully Monica will feel safe in her somewhat lofted position. Hope she has that chin strap on her helmet adjusted.
I’m an adventure bike convert now Atholl🙂👌🏻

@@lesliewilliams8432 That's so interesting because I thought Monika would prefer the Pan America for pillion comfort, but she much prefers the Bonneville because of that exact reason
Not denying it's a nice bike but I prefer the looks and style of my heritage softail even though it's 2013 older technology I like my Triumph 1200 Scrambler slot better for the low down torquey ride though Having owned a number of Harley's over 15 years I cannot accept them as an only bike but that's here in the UK because of weather and cleaning takes 4 hours I got bored with the adventure style Tiger ,800 after 4 years and harked back for the naked bike look once again in scrambler . Dare I say it that your excellent style cf commentary and channel suits the brand that you already own I love my Harley but deep down I am a loyal triumph fan and it took me a lot of years and many bikes to realise this Freddie Look forward to your bike summary at the end of the 4 Days 👍
Superb insight, thanks Alan!🙂
I strongly agree- from a looks point of view I’d take the Heritage every day of the week
Thanks for the discount code Freddie but I just got a sizzapp half price 😉
