Dimash said in an interview that his range doesn’t matter to him and also his listeners shouldn’t care about how wide his vocal range is. For him it’s just one of many tools to express what he wants to convey. I love this version of Samaltau very much. It’s so intimate and nothing distracts you from the song. You can hear every sound of the instruments and can let your thoughts fly painting a picture in your head and feel the song. Dimash doesn’t need any stage settings, dancers… Just him, his beautiful voice and the instruments is enough to draw you into the song. I also love it when he sings in Kazakh. Imho he then is at his best. He doesn’t need to pay attention to the lyrics and right pronunciation of the words and can focus on his voice and I think you can hear that.

When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia (in mid-1916), young Kazakhs were forced by the Russian Empire to leave their homes and fight for many years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who marches desperately into a war that is not his, as well as the sadness of leaving his parents, who are older, with no one to care for and the certainty that he will never see the mountains (“tau ”) of Kazakhstan again again spawned this wonderfully sad song! In addition to Dimash's talent, we have a wonderful environment and a fantastic musician: Olzhas Qurmanbeck, master of playing Qobyz (Kobyz, sacred instrument from Kazakhstan with two strings and bipolyphony)! A supernatural journey to the plains of Kazakhstan, through Music!

Dimash is not the author of this song. This is a folk song. But Dimash wrote the vocalized part, which is missing in the original song. No one before Dimash performed this song in this way.

  • @FawziaTung
    @FawziaTung 4 місяці тому +3

This song was not written by Dimash. It is considered a “folk song”, assumed to have been composed by one of the drafted soldiers who quite possibly died in the war since no one knows his name. The poignancy of leaving his elderly parents behind is because in their semi-nomadic culture, the son has the responsibility to look after his parents when they grow old.
Dimash was first invited to perform at the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2019, when he sang SOS. But in 2020, because of the pandemic, the Tokyo Jazz Festival went virtual.
During the pandemic, Dimash also released We Are One, a song that celebrates the efforts of all who helped during the pandemic. Also, he directed his own music video “Qairan Elim” about his motherland. The main idea is that the land of the Kazakhs has gone through so much suffering (including all the deaths from Covid) throughout history but the song ends on a note of hope and revival.

Thank you for your reaction. As you correctly noticed, Dimash is highly professional and always serves the song and composition, not his ego. He doesn't need to always show all his 6 octaves as it wouldn't fit the song's story or the mood. That's why his performances are so captivating. It's always about the story and emotions ❤✌️

During World War I, the Kazakhs rebelled once again, this time against tsarist military conscription policy. The uprising was stamped out in 1916, at the cost of thousands of lives; by the end of 1917, however, the Imperial Russian Army was in its death throes, and the Kazakhs gained their independence.

The music video Across Endless Dimensions is from 2020. This is an OST to an Italian science fiction movie (starring Gerard Depardieu and William Shatner) called Creators - The Past written by Piergiuseppe Zaia. In order to get the right singer for the title, he searched the internet for the best voice and googled Dimash. He wrote to him and needed 3 different singers to show Dimash how he wanted the song to be. A bariton, a tenor and a soprano because no one could sing this song alone. Dimash listened and said yes. Unfortunately, there was no premiere because of Covid.
OMG, how I love his jacket in this video🥰😛.

As others have touched on, this was a livestream for the Tokyo Jazz Festival during the height of the pandemic. Ikanaide was also livestreamed, one of the most perfect performances ever done by anyone. So..though they were in the studio with no audience present, they were live and incredibly perfect. I love your Dimash reactions as, unlike many other reactors, you know there is a moving story to many of his songs. We actually hear from some reactors, who at times pay no attention to the lyrics, "I'm not sure what this is about but it is cool." I think most Dears at this point care more about his message and the incredible way he can present it than whether he hit an E6 at a certain point. I am pretty sure that is where Dimash is coming from also. I can't wait till you get to his masterpiece, The Story of One Sky, for which he wrote the score, screenplay, and acted in. It came straight from his heart. It is easier, I think, if you do the live performance at Almaty first to focus on lyrics and vocals, then the music video, which is full of symbolism. Closer to your timeline, if you haven't done it, is War and Peace. There are several great versions but the performance in Kiev of this anti war song he wrote is particularly moving. Unknowingly at the time, they were soon to experience war firsthand.

Good to see you back with a Dimash reaction. This performance is from the days of the pandemic, just like, in a later edition of the festival Ikanaide, the Japanese version of Autumn Strong.
As I understand it the lyrics are the original text of an anomymous soldier's letter to his native region around Samal mountain.
In th you can hear wolves, rain, wind, echoing mountains, soldiers caravan starting their journey etc. It is very atmospheric. The vibrato thingy sounds like crying to me. No idea how to call the technique.

    Great to see you again; it's been a long time. You always treat Dimash and his music with great respect. You've got some catching up to do! Dimash has said that this is one of the most difficult for him to sing...not that it is vocally challenging for him, but because of the emotions it produces when telling a story from Kazakhstan's tragic history. (Dimash didn't write this old folksong; it's usually described as "author unknown."}

Yes, but although he did not write the lyrics he changed the music and created this haunting version. I saw an interview with his mother where he told her he wanted to sing this song and she thought ‘Why would you want to sing that old folk song.’ Then he performed it for her and she was astonished! He really does create magic ❤

Dimash is the best singer in the WORLD and there are no doubts about that, his voice is a prodigy of nature and a genetic marvel since his parents are two glories of singing from Kazakhstan since he was 5 years old, he sings publicly and has more than twenty years of lyrical training and graduated from the university of music, he is a singer, composer, arranger and multi instrumentalist, he plays more than seven musical instruments and sings in more than twelve(12) languages, he is also a great performer and a great artist who lives and feels music He is not an imitator of voices , Dimash has his own style and is one of the forerunners of the "POPera" he also has a very pleasant, HUMBLE and simple personality, easy access, which makes it very easy to follow, he always travels with His family and friends is a very educated person and an example to follow, he has become known for his musical talent not for getting into trouble or scandals, It has a very wide vocal range of approximately 7 octaves ,he is a singer with a wide vocal range very versatile is Baritone, TENOR , Soprano, counter TENOR, mezasoprano, everything at the same time is how to have 5 singers in one, it has a male and female voice, also many resources such as vibrato, "melismas", falsetto, Staccato, whistle tone, reaching a( D8 )live "Outside of Piano"at the concert of Gakku in an unforgettable day, at his young age he continues to improve and grow musically to perfection, he has a good physical presence he measures 191 cm or 6 "3", he is very famous and recognized in Asia and now he is becoming known In Europe and America, ALL their songs are spectacular, it always goes from low to high, soft to spectacular at the end, in my almost half a century of life I never heard so much quality and it is the hope of continuity of the classical genre because all the old tenors have already Almost all of them died and Dimash can sing like them but none of them can sing like Dimash, being a Man he sings better than any Tenor and his female voice is superior to that of any average Soprano, greetings and a hug from USA 🇺🇸 "Dears" Forever ❤️ Sorry for copying and pasting my informative comment in ALL the Video reactions to Dimash what I see but I do it with the intention of sharing information about him and what I think that in the music industry there are many artists who have been successful and have no talent and are bad people and they do not set a good example for the youth, Dimash and his music deserve to triumph in America, Europe and the whole WORLD, do you want to have already read my comment please come by without problem there is always someone who for the first time knows this information and I won't get tired of sharing it with all my friends"Dear" around the world, thanks for reading and for supporting Dimash 🙏🏻S.O.S. it's considered a folk song because the author is unknown. The events describe the times of World War I, when the Russian tsar forcibly mobilized the nations of the Caucasus and Central Asia, who were forced to leave their homes and go to a foreign land for a war they did not understand for...The instrument is called the kobyz, and in the introduction we can hear the sounds of the steppe - the howling of the blizzard wind, the howling of wolves and the barking of dogs...

Thank you for your wonderful research❤️.
Thank you for reacting to this specific performance. It’s my favorite. He’s so focused in this song. Beautiful but sad.
Yes, you're right, the instrument you mentioned is called Qobyz.
The Qobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who is playing the Qobyz in Dimash’s performance is the best on this instrument and a very good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or ÒmirÒter and at the stage performance in Stranger.
The flute is called Sygyzgy and is mainly played in the Kyrgyz and Kazakh regions. According to Wikepedia it is traditionally played by shepherd horse herders. A wonderful sound.
I love this song. This song is really special. You literally can hear the wind blowing, the storm and the howling of the wolf. Dimash sings this song so emotionally that you can almost sense the fears and worries this young soldier must have felt as he went off to a war that wasn't his.
Another good performance is from his digitall concert in 2021.

Thank you. I love hearing your thoughts and comments on his vocals. :) The 2 stringed instrument is an ancient one, possibly the oldest stringed instrument. It is called Kobyz. The flute like wind instrument is the Sybyzgy . It is a side blown instrument and is difficult to learn to play. It has been played by shephards and herders in Kazakhstan. The other piece is a rain stick. Yes, that is a Kazakh, eastern style singing of an ancient song. There is a live performance of Samaltau that is wonderful, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/1NkoFc-bQ_s/v-deo.html and there is a performance of it from his online show during the pandemic. Great reaction to Dimash the most amazing singer/performer on the planet. I highly recommend that you react to a really wonderful 19 year old singer from the UK called Lucy Thomas. She has just released her 5th studio album and will star this autumn in a brand new musical called "Rosie" written especially for her. She sings all different styles of music including covers of Whitney Huston, Barbra Streisand etc. She also has on utube many angelic duets with her 14 sister Martha such as "Mary Did You Know?" Please consider checking them out, they are very special and world class.

Glad to see this reaction - hope you do more Dimash at some point- there are still some of his most famous ones youve not done yet like Ikanaide, across endless dimensions, your love, ocean over time, etc. (Dunno where they come chronologically but fairly old)

Please react to Dimash Ikenaide, the Japanese version of Autumn Strong. Also performed in pandemic times, a year after Samaultau. It was in a studio again but streamed live for the jazz festival. It is breathtaking. In my top three performances of Dimash.

👉This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak.
The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the prototype of all European string instruments.
(Turkic means: The Turkic peoples are a collection of ethnic groups from Central, East, North and West Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa who speak Turkic languages. Difference between Turkic and Turkish - ua-cam.com/video/PqxhtBecVeg/v-deo.html )
A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. In addition, the Kazakh people believed that the spirits of their ancestors spoke to them through this music.
The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Simple people, for example, did not dare to touch the shaman's Kobyz. It is said: The balance between the courses of life and death on earth can be maintained by playing the Kobyz.
👉 The flute called Sybyzgy - made of reeds or wood 50-70 cm with 3-7 holes, which is particularly common in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The instrument was particularly popular with shepherds and was used by storytellers. They went across the country and told stories and legends in chants and with music (Kui).
There are many legends and traditions associated with sybyzgy. In these legends the instrument is called a "living reed", because this strong, hollow stem, makes amazingly deep sounds.
The whole life of Kazakhs is imbued with music, it sounds in ceremonies and rituals, in everyday life and at holidays. Listening to the sounds of dombra, kobyz or sybyzgy, one can understand the history and culture of the Kazakh people.
It was easy and fast to make a sybyzgy, but it was very difficult to play it. Sybyzgy kuis (Kui: sung stories) were most two-voice melodies: the first voice came from the instrument and the second voice was the throat singing of the musician-performer.(www)
👉 Rainmaker or Rainstick originally comes from northern Chile. Its origin is the very dry Atacama region, where it was first built by the Diaguitas Indians in the Elqui Valley and used for rain ceremonies. It is originally made from the copado cactus. Only dead cacti that are already lignified are used. The thorns are driven into the interior of the cactus. Then the rainmaker is filled with small pebbles and sealed at both ends.
If you turn the rainmaker over, the small pebbles fall from one spike to the next. This creates a pleasant, even sound that is reminiscent of flowing water or the sound of thick raindrops. While in South America the medicine men wanted to lure the longed-for rain with the soft, rustling sound of the rainmaker, people enjoy the pleasant sound with its calming effect.
The sound spectrum ranges from a fine, gentle drizzle to the mighty roar of a downpour. It 'rains' all the more persistently, the longer the rainmaker is and the more spikes block the path of the pebbles. (www)

In terms of other reactions, you can't go wrong with Dimash, but Diana Ankudinova is spectacular, as always ("Can't Help Falling In Love" and a new one with Brandon Stone, called "The Day You...", where she hits a D6--she's been really working on her higher register). She also had a concert in Russia in front of a full orchestra where she sings "No Time To Die," and the soundtrack from "Dune." xo

I'd love for you to react to Dimash vocalise version of "Know"(Aka. Ascolta La Voce) from his Arnau concert in Kiev(2020),
he does a different improvisation at most concerts and it's fascinating to see the choices he makes in the moment
and how comfortable he is doing something so vulnerable.
It's probably the best example of the ability you mentioned here to take you on a journey with his voice alone, no lyrics needed.
...Though maybe you'd like to check out the "proper" version first to compare? If so he performed it at New Wave in 2019(it's one of Igor's compositions!).
