Hey ckid if you got a series x I think you can actually stream your Xbox to play cod on your series x to your stream deck if it have the xbox beta app on the desktop btw that disappointed for you can't play cod on steam deck as well I like the rog ally better

My brother you need to do your homework before doing a review. As other stated steamOS is linux based. COD anticheat does not support linux. Not Valve's fault. We all know how bad cod is being developed. Lots of issues anyways wouldn't expect something else from a company like Activision.
This review makes you look a bit unprepared but it’s also very honest, which I really appreciate. You didn’t know about COD anti cheat, most reviewers would cut that part or the part with the power supply but you leave it in to show your true experience and “first” impression, very well done 👏
Anti cheat generally isn’t supported with Linux (steam os is a Linux based os) it isn’t valves fault it is the game developers not supporting it. That being said valve has gone out of their way to support anti cheat in other titles by working with developers to make sure their games play on the steam deck. It takes awhile though and it’s really up to the developers wether they want to play nice. With some titles there are workarounds to allow you to play the single player portion of the game even if it isn’t supported officially by valve.

@@CKidM unfortunately with that particular game I think the only option for playing on the steam deck is to install windows. There are guides out there that will show you how to set up dual boot allowing you to have windows and steam os on your steam deck but since you already have the rog ally it probably wouldn’t be worth it unless you just like tinkering around with this sort of stuff
why would you play competitive games on the steamdeck , makes nooo sense.
@@CKidMhopefully now that Microsoft will officially take over Activision next year they’ll force em to support COD on steam deck.
Every other main microsoft online game supports steamdeck. Forza, Halo, gears of war, etc….
Atm if you really want that COD and fortnite action on steamdeck you’ll have to set up a seperate windows partition on the deck. Which defeats the purpose and brings back the major ease of use issues people have with the rog ally and legion go
@@CKidMalso alot of the “unsupported games” still work. Star ocean, syberia, neoverse are a few i’ve tried and they’re flawless. I recommend downloading decky loader and the proton badges plugin.
Gives you a better idea of which unsupported games technically still work on the deck
Good guideline when it unsupported:
“Is it single player?”
Then it will most likely work 99% of the time
“Is it multiplayer”:
Proton badges plugin or online search to see if it’ll work
Check your box they give you a fast charger. Plus your carrying case inside pulls out to make a slimmer case.

@CKidM Yeah my bad I watched the rest good. I like the Steam universe it's not perfect but has more than enough to make it a platform thats one of my favorite.

Love how they give you a case that can be reduced to a slim case (2 in 1) as I always carry my stuff in a biger bag and get slim cases whenever needed (Notebook, Nintendo Switch...)
Just started thr video so I haven't heard your opinions yet. My very first impression (also having an ally first) was how premium the steam deck felt in my hands instantly. The ally felt like a toy afterwards. The build quality on the deck is TOP notch. It's feels amazing.
It defintiely feels more complete in the hands than the ROG Ally...I agree. And the screen on the Steam Deck is far more superior

one thing to note is nor because there's no green check mark or it says unsupported doesn't mean it wouldn't run. most of the it means Valve just haven't tested it yet
Since I got my Samsung OLED I'm now fully converted to OLED 😂. Steak Deck OLED looks straight fire!

I got the lcd steam deck. But i really want the oled.... i also have the switch oled, g cloud and now the portal.... i need to stop buying handhelds 😅

The Valve tab that stops the zippers can be taken off without cutting it if you have a paper clip or something to push in its hole, the little pulley tab will pop out and you can save that or reuse it.
I made that mistake with my first LCD and figured it out with the OLED
16:22 The reason you can install "Unsupported" games is because they can often be made to work. This isn't the case with Anti-Cheat, and some games with anti-Cheat that is unsupported will still work in single player mode (I think some Halo games). A lot of "Unsupported" games are that way due to proprietary video files. These video files can be played if you use Proton-GE and then the game will run perfectly. If the system refused to let you install the game, then this would not be possible. It usually notifies you before installing that it is unsupported.

Stated as Unsupported due to Multiplayer. However, the Single Player is 100% playable.

The best thing that makes it much better than any other handheld is the sleep mode. Just for that is better than the window devices

If you want more use out of trackpads, use virtual menu, you can create custom keybind menus and use them on trackpads in any games.
I've been doing research on the steam deck for as long as it's been out, I made my steam account a little over a year ago saving up to buy the high end model and might order one in time for it to come in for Christmas, I know the steam deck can't play every game and I won't need it too, I primarily play single player games and from what I've seen the steam deck still out preforms both the Ally and legion GO even though they have more powerful chips in them cuz the OS and custom APU were specifically optimized for the steam deck and as far as I'm aware windows still runs like ass on a handheld
I think once Linux is more acceptable by gamers...windows might be in trouble.

@@CKidM already switching to Linux on my main gaming PC, CoD and a few FPSs won't work anymore but I mostly play old FPSs anyway (Quake 2/3 for life :)). Way fewer bugs, crashes, and per-game setup than Windows for me.
If you look on the outside box, it typically tells you what the contents are in the box. It was helpful to have me take an extra look when I thought I was missing a charger.
My question is the rationale for having both this and the Ally. I love the ally but this new Deck looks dope, just struggling with what I would do with 2 handhelds lol
Man having both is a good problem to have...honestly they both are good but the Steam Deck seems to check a lot of boxes.
I was in the same situation. I chose the Ally for COD, and more power to push higher frames. The SD is better in every other way.
Just ordered the Steamdeck OLED yesterday.

Destiny, CoD and a few others don’t let you play on the Deck because of the anti cheat. You can only play them on Windows handhelds.

You can either run Windows in a dual-boot situation or run it on an external SSD.
Some competitive games can't be played as easily on non-windows devices because anti-cheat not being available on them basically. There are work arounds such as duel booting and streaming to the device but most of the time it's not as intuitive as just gaming on a dedicated windows device such as the Ally or Legion GO. I think that more competitive FPS games will be able to be played in the future on steam devices as the platform gets more popular and anti-cheat software or some other software is offered in Linux/steam that motivation makers of COD, Fortnight, Destiny etc. to make it so that their games can be played on a handheld Linux device natively.

No...but if you are a screen snob...then I will say yes...but if it was me...no I wouldn't upgrade...save your money.

Man I dual booted my steam deck just because of modern warfare 2 . I would hope by now Linux and steam deck would allow anti cheat to work natively.

So if you can’t play call of duty is it even worth the $400 ? Because that’s mainly what I want to do on any hand held even I’m not home. And also does the lcd version matter? And is this something I can just pick up play with just WiFi
my big concern with getting a steam deck is how long before the requirement floor of new releases exceed the performance ceiling of the steam deck to keep a steady 30fps

The steam deck 2 will be out in the next 2-3 years. It was never meant to be a device you can play every single new game on. It is still pretty impressive for what it can do and I think the value proposition is much more than other competing products even if they do play a few newer games.

this is the issue. i had the steam deck and i loved it but i always wanted a bit more power so i don’t have to play everything on ow. new games do struggle. so u need to have expectations.
i got the go and im getting the graphics and performance and screen size i wanted. i hate windows but this is what i wanted my steam to be.

Nah it’s an Emulation station that can kill 85 percent of your backlog. That’s why I bought it
Number 1. They send you a charger with every device. It’s inside the shipping box
Number 2. Getting this device for competitive online play is not going to go very well for you.
Appreciate the honest review. I like the look of the Steam Deck and ability to play games out of the box like a true console system. But the lack of the ability to play certain games that I can play on both the Ally and Legion Go may be a deal breaker.
Once more people and developers adopt Linux based systems windows will be on the way out for gaming. Windows is such a headache. Once anti cheat and games are developed with Linux in mind it will destroy everything. I think the steam deck and valve will make that happen and once all games are supported nothing running windows will be able to touch it.

11:40 Steamdeck runs SteamOS which is a modified ArchLinux. Some AntiCheats simply don't work on linux, not an issue from the Steamdeck itself.
Both Easy Anti Cheat and Battleye can work on the Steam Deck but it's up to the game studios to enable it on their end.. Sad really, I don't know if they're being paid off by Microsoft/Epic to block support in some cases. There are some game studios that gone ahead and enabled Anticheat, so it can be done.
Some people try to play COD on steam deck by installing windows on steam deck and play it there. Not the most convenient thing, but there is a way to play COD in that device. Just more complicated.

2. Battery Life = Steam deck

5.Best performance at high tdo: Ally/Go

Basically if you want a handheld like the switch get the Steam deck

I believe that the asus has Microsoft 11 which allows you to play games like modern warfare. How I’ve heard you can download the Microsoft software allowing you to play the Microsoft game library.
You can play alooooot of unsupported games on the steam deck just make sure there’s no anti-cheat .or at least games that have single game
I prefer my surface duo to everything else 2 games at same time

There are a few games that says unsupported but actually works games like Shenmue 1and 2 ,Cold Fear and few other games but I have two of the LCD ones but I will definitely be buying the Oled one

I'm going to be honest. I am a standalone handheld myself, BUT that being said, IF I had to get a streaming handheld, I would get a Steam Deck, or a ASUS ROG Ally. DEFINITELY NOT the Portal. At least you don't have to leave your PC in Rest Mode like you do with the Portal. And also I would imagine that a Steam Deck or Ally would work in more places that the Portal clearly does not.

The screen definitely is...but honestly you can't compare this to the portal...they are much different.
@@CKidM Hell yes it is once you get remote play going on the Steamdeck. It's possible.
You can compare it to the portal as it has the ability to remote play just like the portal. Difference is with Steam Deck you can remote play PS, XBox and PC as well as play PC games natively and you can run emulation.

Depends on the games you like to play...if you are a COD player like me then I have to go with ASUS because of windows vs Linux. But just overall feel and usage and gameplay...I honestly like the Steam Deck more. And the screen quality with the OLED is crispy!
Unless you're more of a PC gamer It's really not worth it, especially if you're a console gamer that leans towards PlayStation.
We all know that exclusives take around a year or so before they finally let out on PC and then when they do they have they generally have issues..
With that be being said if I was a PC gamer I would definitely grab this no questions asked.
I'm curious on how well Remote Player works on here with Playstation. Testing that out now
@@CKidM there's a few videos out there with people running it with Chiaki and getting it to run pretty smoothly.. The kicker is that you need to do port forwarding which release reduces the latency.
I don't have any experience with that app, though I do have multiple years of setting up a Saturday IP address in port forwarding through theme stationed to overseas.
I know on my tablet I use PSPlay And it's been a phenomenal even when I'm in a whole another state... It's far superior app, head and shoulders above the official PlayStation remote play app. It's crazy how one guy made a app that's 1000 times better with more customization than a billion dollar company.
Either way for optimal setup for remote playing it looks like unless you originally have a great setup you're going to have to do static IP address with the port forwarding to lower the latency..

11:34 apparently you have to install windows 11 to play MW3. Thats kinda lame
At the end of the day though, because MW3 comes integrated with Ricochet Anti-Cheat software and therefore requires Windows 11 on the Steam Deck, well that's just the way it is.
Definitely lame....I agree...but it's more of the gaming devs fault and not Steam's fault.

The OLED screen replacement (and smaller bezels) are the biggest changes. However Valve also made tweaks to some of the smaller things as well as some quality of life changes, including giving it a better battery life then the original Steam Deck (all depending on what games you play and their settings, of course). Other than that, it’s the same as the original Steam Deck.

It was a cool review! Even if you lost the charger for a bit (that was kinda funny😂😂) or had no idea about the anticheat issue, the rest of your critiques about the button placement, screen and battery life are still valid. 🫂
Just to be clear, Steam Deck runs on Arch Linux, which branches off regular Linux.
The ROG Ally runs windows, and anticheat is built with windows in mind, so COD will work on the ROG.
There is a compatibility layer called "Proton" that Valve is building up so more multiplayer games are playable on the steam deck!
So far, Apex Legends and FOR HONOR work on the steam deck despite being a big battle royale and a big siege-warfare fighting game, you can take those games for a spin if you'd like!
