I got the limited edition one because valve said that the interest in it would let them know how much effort to put into having more new different color options available. Imagine an Aperture Science or Combine Technology-themed Deck!
I am finally jumping into the handheld gaming pc world. It is 4 months after your post. BUt I too am watching the while waiting for my Steam Deck to be delivered.
I got an LCD Steam Deck at launch, and it blew me away and transformed the way I play my games! I'm so excited that Valve appear to have made that experience even greater with the OLED Deck and so, I'll be there to place my order at launch in just under an hour as I type this!
@@shto4782 my lcd deck is the launch model or it shipped asap upon release ..and it’s still going strong. Yeah no Elden ring crashes for me…I dunno I’m on stable and fully update…
@@shto4782 Once again I’m sorry bro…I think Elden ring is fucking amazing. I haven’t been onto a game this long since my gran turismo ps2 days. Sorry you keep experiencing crashes…also I’m using the 64gb model with a 256gb SD. And my deck is approaching its 2 year mark…
I never updated my PC since 2014 ..mostly because of the shortage and ridiculous parts prices like graphics cards .... DECK IS ALL I PLAY .. and IM OK WITH THAT . !
LCD is a light filter that you put in from of a backlight. OLED sub-pixels emit light themselves. So you're close, but rather than each sub-pixel having a backlight, there's no back and each subpixel is their own light.
The steam deck is hands down the best and most satisfying piece of tech I had since my (very far) childhood. Next month I will be selling my lcd deck for an oled 512gb version and I could not be happier with this decision. Valve deserves our thanks and money for how good it is working on both its hardware and software.
Surprisingly got myself a Steam Deck OLED about 5 hours past when the pre-order opened, I was having trouble getting it the first time it opened. Decided to wait it out and then I got it. Super excited to have it and I'm also a first timer of steam deck, I'm glad I waited out for this particular refresh, can't wait to see what Valve does next in the future. Cheers!
@@subiesojourner777 same here. I was so disappointed that my page was giving me errors. After 30 minutes of trying I was able to get the LE. This is my first Steam Deck.
The good thing about having younger siblings is that you never feel bad about your hardware dropping in value as you can just give the old tech to them. Never sold any of my old computer components as when I upgrade the old parts just trickle down the chain to the next person. It empowers them to play games more easily which worth more to me than getting a bit of change back.
I didn’t check all the comments, and I’m late so no one’s ever going to read this but for the sake of clarity and accuracy: You state that in OLED, every pixel/subpixel is backlit. That is incorrect. What makes OLED special is that there is literally no backlighting. Instead, the pixels self illuminate when electricity passes through them. That presents a bunch of advantages: 1) When a pixel isnt needed, the pixel literally just shuts down, hence why blacks on oled are so perfect 2) Because there’s isn’t any interaction between the pixel and something else for the pixel to activate, response time is far lower than any other currently available technology. 3) Because when a pixel goes black, it essentially shuts down, it also draws no power at all. You can do the test if you phone has an OLED screen. Have a full black background for a day, and compare the battery life to when you have a regular background. You’ll see that with the black background your phone lasts longer. That’s because all the black pixels consume 0 power. So while it wouldn’t necessarily be a good upgrade just to have better colors… The insane battery life increase of the Steam Deck oled is partly due to this panel technology. Even with a bigger battery, the LCD model wouldn’t be able to last as long because the panel draws more power, all the time.
I’m incredibly hyped. The fact that they fixed nearly all major flaws of the original Deck, is wild. Sure, it’s on paper the same APU, but you gotta keep in mind that OLED comes with a much better pixel response time, and it will feel so much better. Mark my words.
UA-cam asked me to submit a small opinion poll about your comment, rate it from 1-5 and check boxes bout what I liked about your comment. I gave it a 5, and checked "other". Never seen this before 🤷
Another thing to note is the frame doubling from 45->90fps is a power saver. since no actual rendering is done for half of the frames it just displays the prerendered frame over again you can see a noticeable improvement in battery life vs keeping it at 60 70 80 fps etc.
@@hanfo420 you can also do 90fps. What's your point. My point was with frame doubling 45fps has reduced latency and better battery life than in previous models
I will be picking up my first Steam Deck today. Going for the 512gb OLED model which I will probably upgrade to a 2TB SSD if I see any good deals for black friday. I've always been on the fence but the quality of the LCD screen was really holding me back from taking the plunge. The OLED Switch was a transformative experience for me and this screen sounds like it's on that level. Can't wait!
Done the same, yeah want 2tb SSD have a massive steam library. Steam was busy took me 45 minutes to buy online, so many errors wouldn't update my debit card and my mobile phone details which were wrong.
@@241troystreet Yeah wanted the best out of the Oled and won't ever be outside gaming just seems dumb gaming in direct sunlight. Mainly will use SD in bed at night or evening on the sofa away from windows/ lights.
@@241troystreetthe trade off is worth it…on my OG deck I used an anti glare glass protector…slight drop off in clarity, but worth it…and this is around my house…and the light glare is baaad.
13:16 You have no idea how much I would love to live in that bliss of not being able to notice stuff with audio quality. I enjoy being novice audiophile but my ear itself picks up so much detail just in general and it can really be distracting, but when it does come down to listening for that detail in music or games, movies, shows, etc. it's great.
Somehow interesting that everyone is fighting glossy vs edged display and the same time all reviews have the edged one and are blown away by the amazing image quality. :D
@@c-tothefourth4879glossy looks better in far fewer circumstances, seeing my face stare back at me in a mildly lit room next to a window let alone outside is borderline unplayable to me. I think for tv’s or monitors that have a fixed place where you know what the light situation will be 100% glossy is better. But for portables like the deck or gaming laptops having a glossy screen is so annoying imo
Got the highest end launch LCD, shell swapped it to a transparent black, and I think I still feel good about having it. Yesterday I added the limited edition OLED into my cart as soon as it was available but didn’t pull the trigger. I’m proud of the work I put into the LCD, and I have a shell swapped Switch Lite for christs sake so I’m good. I’m also not a fan of the red orange color sticks, I’d rather a green accented deck.
13:50 Valve is mass producing steam decks, buying a few hall effect sensors might be fine, but when you're mass producing a product, you can't have quality control issues in the production chain
Facts same here I think if they had made that oled 1080p and 3rd or 4th gen processor I just might have to pull the trigger on this one but for now I'll keep my 512 lcd model
@brotha1984 I guess that's not stopping lots of people from buying and have Steam going haywire. I've been trying to order one all day but thr site won't make me purchase one. I guess those silly opinions is not stopping people from buying it. Most of those oled sales are from people who already own a deck lol
I am hoping to upgrade in half an hour. And if I can, get the limited edition! I love the age of gaming handhelds that we are in and want to support it. I plan to give my friend and his wife my 512 LCD deck for Christmas or keep it as a collection item. Cool stuff!
I just sold my original 64 GB steam deck and purchased a 512 gb OLED.... And I absolutely love it!! I do not regret updating at all. I also like the fact that the screen is a tad bigger it's definitely the best version of the steam deck that you can get.
Need to recognize that an 800p OLED at that size is probably equivalent to a 1600p LCD. OLED have a clean pixel structure that results in the resolution appearing higher. I saw a blind test of a Samsung high end QLED (LCD) 8K tv vs an LG 4K OLED. Like 95% of people thought the 4K OLED was the 8K TV.
You are wrong bro what you talking about is Micro OLED not regular OLED.... OLED suffere mors in resolution which gives it more noticeable screen door effect while latest LCD have superior pixels arrangements hence less screen door effect (it's a know thing in VR because of how sensitive it's in that market) But Micro OLED is the best when it comes to pixel arrangements
I’m going for a Limited Edition one but I have no idea how “extremely limited” it will be. I probably don’t need to upgrade, but I do use my Steam Deck every day and I want to support the success of the product so it thrives and continues into the future. I think Valve is doing a much, much better job with this device than any other handheld PC maker and I want them to continue.
I've been on the fence about getting one. I don't know if I would use it that much. Mostly only when traveling. But once the price went down on the old ones I finally decided to pull the trigger and got a 512GB LED.
I ordered the Limited Edition because I love transparent electronics. I have an OG steam deck and love it. I upgraded when the Switch had an OLED and it was very worth it. Makes a world of difference on portable systems.
I have to be honest, I really really like your review style. I like that you are not afraid to admit that sound is not your expertise and that you give your honest feelings rather than some copy pasted information about technicalities that you are not experiencing. Thank you very much!
If screen looks so good with the anti-glare Matte, imagine it with the glossy screen that has even darker blacks... Just awesome (tomorrow receiving my 512 Gb, I'm so hyped)
I'm giving my girlfriend my old steam deck and getting this one. It's not a must have, but the better screen, battery life, and quieter cooling are everything I felt was lacking on the original
I have my Steam Deck LCD 64gb for about 2 months now when it was on sale. I replaced the hard drive to 2tb SSD and added a Anti-glare protective screen to it. To me, the LCD screen looks great to me, plus I dock my Steam Deck to a portable 15.6 inch monitor which looks even better. As this is my 1st handheld PC cconsole, I've have been havng a blast with it. I would love to get the OLED version, but i am satisfied with my Steam Deck. I had no issues at all and I rather save my money to get the official Steam Deck 2 when it comes out. Yes, the upgraded OLED version is a drastically improved version in everyway, I just don't think I will sell my Steam Deck and get the OLED version as I probably will not be able to sell it for a good price. With that said, it's a No, for me to upgrade to the OLED version.
I'm not upgrading, it's just not enough of an impact for me, but instead a bunch of small improvements. Plus Valve effectively hammered the resale value of LCD Decks with this move (since the market is getting flooded with them right now). I was actually considering a larger-screen system (like the Go), but with this move, I can't recover enough from my Deck to justify the purchase. Looks like I'll be waiting another year or two to upgrade.
Another thing for me to consider is the hassle of replacing the SSD. mine is 2tb SSD, and it's packed to the brim with games. Even if I got a 1tb OLED, I'm effectively downgrading the storage unless I mess around swapping them around, I don't want to worry about or risk accidental electrostatic discharge just for that.
In one or two years, your OG Deck will be worth even less, and due to inflation, the price of the new Steam Deck will likely be higher. Decisions, decisions.
@@skycloud4802 it's perfectly possible to use the SSD of the LCD on the new OLED model and valve confirmed it. You only need to upgrade to Steam OS 3.5
Of course I’m upgrading! Old fashion always sucks!! Getting the 512 version cause colors pop up more. Wish they could make the 1tb with the option to regular screen. Nice channel!!! 🤙🏻
Thanks for pointing out that the upgrade isn't just about the new screen but there's a ton of other changes that Valve made to the OLED model that really add up. I might have missed it in the video, but I don't believe you touched on the upgraded Wifi and Bluetooth chip bringing it up to Wifi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 which allows for low latency audio for wireless earbuds and a much faster and more stable Wifi connection.
Great review. Already have a Steam Deck, so I got the LegionGo instead. I like my SD, but the screen size has always been an issue for me. I think my eyes aren’t what they used to be.
I upgraded. The day the model was availile from 19:00 CET I was sittin there with my 16 month old son in one arm and hitting reresz on the steam store with my other hand.. after roughly 40 minutes I managed to get through the process. The new model arrived yesterday. I had no chance to open the box yet. As a 42 y.o. father of two, I had little to no time for the original Steam Deck. I assume I will have even less time for the new model. It is just so nice to "have it at home"
There is no back light, in any way, for the OLED version. The way LCDs work is that individual pixels either block light, or let light through. (Or somewhere in the middle where some light comes through.) The way OLEDs work is the pixel itself produces the light. So when an OLED pixel is off there is no power associated with it. (Technically the chips that control the pixels use a tiny amount of power regardless, but it is so minuscule that it can be ignored.)
I wish steam would distribute to more regions so we don't have to deal with retailers with insane mark ups. if I'm gonna wait for the price of SD OLED to go down idk if it's still worth buying it at that time (cuz SD 2 might be near by then).
OLED upgrade includes better battery, Chargers faster than the LCD versions, Improved screen which is a Steam Deck OLED, the screen size has little bit increased, feels rather lighter and more comfortable to play.
I just bought the limited edition OLED steam deck. I love the transparent look. Reminds me of my old transparent gameboy. Its my first steam deck. So glad this got announced before i went out and bought one of the LCD ones.
I'm bummed. I completely missed that stupid link for the LE edition and just ordered the 1GB. By the time I caught my mistake, Valve said it was too late to just change the order, and that I could just refuse delivery and re-order. :(
I won't upgrade my own yet, I think it's still great and I can hold off for a couple years until the next gen version comes out. But I was already planning on getting one for my wife for Christmas, and was waiting for a good sale. But this is even better, and I was glad to get one ordered for her today.
VALVE is just an awesome company with old skool thinking .. I respect them dearly ..they put heart and sould into their love for tech .. almost like Santa Claus loving the kids
I didn’t even want an OLED screen, I just wanted a *better* screen that didn’t have as much ghosting. I already sold my 512 gnosis deck for a decent amount within the week of this announcement and I see this being able to handle everything that I want and I should be satisfied till the next major handheld update
Here's my thing, the Steam Deck started out as just an idea everyone shit on. It was a joke. Even LTT bashed it. Yet it prevailed. This thing is a monster. Not because of performance, but for being well rounded. The thing is like a damm Lexus LFA.
Always look forward to your videos. I got lucky and got a Limited Edition OLED today when they went up and sold my 512 LCD for a good price before they plummet. Keep up the good work man
@@NerdNest Absolutely. An OLED screen was all I really wanted on my old model. I remember when they released the Sea of Stars demo, I downloaded it on my Deck and my Switch OLED, and sat them side by side and the difference in brightness and color was mindblowing
My OLED arrived today, I knew instantly from the weight and screen on just the menus I did the right thing! I just moved my 1TB from my LCD unit to the OLED, it was like LEGO. Zero boot issues, I made sure to align OC etc. However, my Windows 11 on SSD card is sobbing it can't reach the net and I'll have to wait for drivers to be released. To sum up, it was worth it.
If they fixed Steam on the OLED Steam Deck, I'd get one immediately, no questions asked! I'm just still so frustrated with how much functionality is still missing for Steam on any version on the Steam Deck. We all "get used to" the scrolling issues & pausing in the Store, but it's still frustrating, & the total lack of functionality in so many other parts of Steam for a handheld Steam-based device is still baffling to me. I think most Steam Deck users just don't use Steam as much as other programs & things like emulation & tweaks, but for those of us who got it partly to participate more with Steam as a platform, it's surprisingly changed very little since launch.
Oh my god! I couldn't find your channel (and I didn't remember the name) or any of your videos, even when searching in my UA-cam history for "steam deck"! I only managed to get here from a Fan The Deck video! I'm not sure why your videos were not appearing to me anywhere, but now I found this video and subscribed to your channel (so this won't happen again).
Personally I think the upgrade is huge and worth the upgrade. However I’m only going for the LE. I have an LCD and an Ally, so if I miss out on the LE I’ll just sit out on this one.
Nice video. I'm impressed by all the upgrades, it's a very nice upgrade! But as I am trying to save cash I won't be upgrading from my older Steam Deck. I rarely upgrade a console mid-generation and I will be following the same path.
Even if i could sell my LCD steam deck for 300 i probably still wouldbt upgrade. Theres always something new coming out aroubd the cornor. I think we need to learn to approciate what we have without giving into marketing hype.
I agree. Only reason I'm getting this one is I sold all my rust skins and had enough to get the limted edition one. No money out of my pocket and I never had a steam deck. How do you like gaming on it?
Yeah, if i didnt already have a Steam Deck i would 100% go after the OLED model. I love my Steam Deck. Its great with playing older titles and less demanding indie games. It emulates older consoles pretty well also. Well worth it if you have a big Steam library. @@Upsdriver234
I mean that's good for you and all, but it's not all "marketing hype" and the upgrades to the Steam Deck could (for some people) turn it from a system they barely use to something that's used all the time. Being able to remote play from my desktop onto an OLED screen with HDR using Wifi 6E for faster and more stable connection isn't possible on the old Deck, but it'll be one of my main use cases for the OLED model.
@@Upsdriver234I really like playing older games or indies on the deck Stuff like hades is so awesomely smooth it is crazy As a new buyer the OLED is a great thing
Oled is extremely nice. But given the dichotomy of the title. Id say its over-rated. My LCD steamdeck is great and while a nicer display is.... nice. Its not a must to have an enjoyable experience.
@c-tothefourth4879 I don't know about destroying. I have alot of fun on mine. I'm sure you will enjoy the Oled steamdeck. I much rather just save the money.
Legion Go has Hall effect sticks and I've seen a good few local reviews stating that one of the sticks was too loose and that required people to return their devices.
In just over a year to a year and a half after release, the $550 LCD steam deck is worth about $250 on eBay. What this tells me is to not buy one at release ever again. The depreciation is wild.
@@goestheboom5211 Absolutely no one buys it as an investment (edit: well maybe early on, but that is just scalpers being scalpers), but when things go down that quick it doesn't build confidence in a product or company. I will wait a year or so and get it for less than half price. I learned my lesson. Hopefully others learn it as well.
if I wasn't an enthusiast and using handhelds for content creation and guides, Steam Deck OLED would be the end-all be-all handheld for me. You can always stream the games that have issues or are unplayable, on a beautiful screen, with great battery life and comfort. If you don't have a gaming PC to stream certain games, GeForce Now exists (so does ShadowPC but they are kinda under fire right now with the hack).
SteamOS being darker in gamemode is darker acrossed the board and it doesn’t look bad on lcd deck. Imo it looks even better. You can try it on your og by going to preview branch. Valve has the white balance go 7500k which is slightly blue which isn’t white in srgb. I would suggest changing it to 6500k which is pure white and it’s noticeable quality upgrade on the og deck and maybe it will on the oled? Later models of lcd one has clicky steam and qam buttons.
I think the thing that irks me about the OLED as a SD LCD owner is that they basically released it 1 year after I(and many others) received mine. If you compare that to the switch, at least original switch owners had 4 years with their device. Admittedly I don't expect the Steam Deck to have as long of a life cycle as the switch, which is also why I'm doing my best to avoid the upgrade and avoid possible further fomo and extra spending on a SD2.
Do you need to shift to an OLED model? Well that depends on what your needs are? Does the battery improved the portability of the console? if yes, well you can modify your battery life for a better LCD deck experience. Does download times improved? if yes, well you can manage your download times in your LCD deck model. Does the screen and color saturation improved? if yes, well you have other screens and saturation workarounds in your LCD deck. Does the new model comes with some improvements? if yes, do they substantially change the degree in which you experience your games? if yes, buy the OLED model. if it doesn't, keep your LCD model.
Im upgrading. Love my lcd but wanted a few things better which is wifi, screen and battery. Those check enough boxes to upgrade and give my lcd model to a family member to experience what its like to have a steam deck. I bought the 512gb at launch and it's been great since.
Bought my oled 512gb SD yesterday never owned one before can't wait, says 3 to 5 day's delivery time better not get stolen by the van driver. Hate top firing speakers just sounds wrong. Legion Go just sounds really bad.
I have had the original Steam Deck LCD for 16 months. I bought the limited edition one when it said it would ship in 2-4 weeks so I could keep my place in line while really thinking about it and maybe cancelling if I changed my mind. Well it arrived 5 days later (yesterday). I kept it in the box and thought about returning it since in my mind I’m thinking the only thing that is different is the OLED. Am I really buying a new one just for a new screen? Well I couldn’t resist and opened it. Moved my old 2TB SSD over and everything worked flawlessly. I noticed how much better the WiFi 6E chip was. Online games were smoother and downloads were way faster. The trackpads and the haptics underneath them were noticeably better and the intensity in each side felt equal. My original Steam Deck was weaker on one side. I wasn’t expecting the trackpads and haptics to be better, so that was a nice surprise. The OLED screen was obviously leaps and bounds beyond the LCD in brightness and color accuracy. However one aspect of it that is also a thousand times better is the touchscreen. No one I watched or listened to mentioned how much better the touch sensor worked on the OLED. The OLED touchscreen feels so much more fluid and precise like a smartphone screen does. It makes navigating SteamOS and Windows a breeze. My one issue is I dual booted into Windows to play a few games that don’t work in SteamOS. I was sad to find that there are zero WiFi drivers for Windows on the OLED Steam Deck. I couldn’t get an Ethernet adapter to work either. Once they release those drivers I probably still have to worry about the third party apps I used to manage the Steam Deck controls in Windows probably need to be updated too and who knows when that will happen. Hopefully soon. Windows runs, but you won’t get any internet or control input yet. So keep that in mind if you need Windows to work. I still don’t have any regrets upgrading. I’ll sell my old Steam Deck and keep the OLED.
I held back from getting the OG Steam Deck the last few months because I was sure Steam Deck 2 was coming soon. Now, they’ve released Steam Deck 1.5 and I’ve put my order in. It’ll do until the Steam Deck 2 arrives in 2025 onwards. I can’t wait.
On the framerate. Any game above 45fps and below 90fps will experience tearing. Even games that are below 45fps, and fluctuate will also appear jerky and tear. The panel doesn't support variable refresh rates (VRR) so it's going to be at a constant 90hz.
Just because you are curious to find out i sold my 512 LCD to a buddy for the Limited edition OLED. I would have still made the upgrade to OLED without the limited edition but i would have been torn between glossy and matt screens, the limited just made that decision for me.
I’m still in “printed shipping label” status on steam update. I was hoping I would have gotten by the holidays this week. Oh well. Steam said 2-3 business days. 😕
I'm watching this video to support your channel and I love your content but I only convincing I'm buying it as soon as they got announced. I was like take my money, take my money now. I wish I could have bought it that same day that I got announced but today at 1:00 p.m. Eastern, I'm going to be buying my steam deck OLED and then once I have confirmation that I bought it and it's going to be shipped out to me, I'll sell my current team deck on Facebook marketplace
I’m considering a steam deck for the first time. I only have a Switch. This video was very helpful, because I’m the type of person who feels like I won’t have a good version of I do the lcd one, but your video helped ease my comfort. Even though I want the oled, the lcd is more affordable and more in my price range right now.
Upgraded from the 512gb lcd to 1tb OLED, little silly I know, but I went from classic switch to OLED switch and had no regrets - assume it'll be the same once it arrives. It also means I can gift my old one to my brother for Christmas. I wanted the limited edition one, but they don't ship em to the UK :(
I waited to buy a steam deck since I wanted to see if it lasted in the market. I think this is the perfect time to buy one, and I just purchased the 1tb LE OLED. Now, the difficult part is the wait.
I agree with you, overall it's worth upgrading. But I will not, because I think now, buying the Steam Deck wasn't worth for me personally. Sure I play about 10-15 hours a week on it, but 95% of the games I could play on my Laptop. But it is still a hell of a gaming handheld and I'm glad that I've bought one a year ago. And any Steam Deck is still a way better value than a switch if you count game prices, storage upgradability and tinkering overall. I'm more curious if they'll get rid of the lowest tear model for the Steam Deck 2 to keep the feature parity because I think they can't go back to an LCD in future devices.
The OLED is absolutely amazing, and the 90hz alone is worth the upgrade for me. The one thing I'd like to say, is that, if you're not much of a gamer anymore, don't expect either deck to change that. I open my deck sometimes and scroll through my library just like I do on PC. It doesn't make me want to play anymore, even though I pulled out all the stops with the gulikit sticks on the LCD, 1tb SSD, 1tb micro SD, EmuDeck setup with hundreds of games, WinDeck, Decky Loader, doesn't matter. I don't use either of my decks, OLED or LCD. Any number of tinkering hasn't changed the fact that I'm just not into games anymore. So if you're looking at any handheld to spark your interest in games again, just know that it's not guaranteed. I feel like not enough people are talking about this.
I didn't go for the limited edition one since I'm swapping out the shell the first moment I get a replacement shell since it's not like it's something internal that's also added.
One of fewer discussed topics is the fan noise to me. I almost wanted to get the slight revision of the launch model because the fan on the launch variant did annoy me a little. And the Oled fan is even better right
I have LCD and i love it, and i just bought OLED, and my answer is a big, fat YES! I mean you forgot to mention that screen is visibly bigger!!! Thats a huge plus in my book.
I had a bunch of old crates/cases in CSGO 2, spend last night selling one by one and reached up to 950 dollars in my steam wallet lol. I just bought the 1tb oled steamdeck and the dock. so basically valve/steam gifted it to me since I never spent a dime on CSGO or TF2 which or valve/steam games. Thanks Gaben! Can't wait to get in next week.
I'd like to see valve incorporate a screensaver into the OS. My only concern with the oled is that you have to leave the screen on for downloads which is just asking for burn-in.
If you're really worried, you can probably just do your own screensaver. Like opening chrome in game mode and playing a UA-cam video of something that isn't a static image, while it downloads your games.
I just got a LCD 515 steam deck, about a month ago in the sale, Valve won't swop it for a oled one ,even though I have not opened it yet ,as it's a Xmas present. So will probably sell it ,and go with the Lenovo go .
We saw this massive battery improvement in the switch when they went oled. 4-5 hours to 9 on full charge. This is the thing that makes me want a deck now.
I have a 64GB LCD model I installed a 1TB drive in, have had it for about a year. I bought a 512GB OLED model today and will install the 512GB SSD in my LCD Deck and sell it, and keep the 1TB in the OLED model. The battery life improvement along with the heat reduction is already enough for me, but the OLED screen seals the deal.
I "accidentally" ordered the limited edition one on launch... Now I just gotta figure out what to do with my other handhelds before the wife figures it out.
Haha this made me chuckle, I’ll be the same if I order a steam deck. Currently have the OLED white switch, so my wife would be like “erm, didn’t you have a white one before?!” 😂
I bought steam deck on their anniversary sale. Works fine. I was on the fence about even getting one cause I had a psp and psvita I did not enjoy. If I could trade mine in for oled that would be cool but will just have to be happy with what I got
Ordered my Oled 512gb, i had the original Deck and sold it a year ago to get an Ayaneo 2, then i got the Rog Ally....now i just wanna come back to Steam OS and the awesomeness of Oled display. Going with a native 800p is the right choice, i had the Ally and it is still not powerful enough to run demanding games at native 1080p so you have to run them at lower no native resolution, having an 800p native display is the best choice
For me, I have a 3TB, skinned Deck, appreciated every minute of it - spent ridiculous sums. Picked up a LeGo, fell in love with the screen. The power. Picked it up quick too but it really needs some work. Faulty, loose, right ‘joycon’, had to send it back! After MUCH messing around, waiting on a new order, 4 weeks. I want an OLED Deck sooo bad - I dunno, the LeGo, in a few months, might nail it to the wall. I’m gonna wait a few more weeks.
That's why it's good to have hands-on with a product before pre judging it by telling yourself you don't need something, without even trying it. It's just logic. There's nothing wrong with sticking to what u already have though. I'm just saying, never pre judge, until u get hands on time with a product.
Valve have done an amazing job with these update. I imagine a Steam Deck that can ha dle playing something like Cyberpunk at 1080p 120fps with Raytracing on an OLED FHD 120Hz HDR VRR screen with 8hr battery. I don't think we are many years away.
I already know I am going to upgrade to the OLED model. I’m just here to convince myself that it is a good idea 😂
I've accepted that I can't justify it... But I really really want it, so that's reason enough for me!
I did order it few hours ago, so you should do the same. 😅

Same bro, same. Just looking for excuses.
I got the limited edition one because valve said that the interest in it would let them know how much effort to put into having more new different color options available. Imagine an Aperture Science or Combine Technology-themed Deck!

@MisterCaution the Autumn sale starts tomorrow
The good thing about having younger siblings is that you never feel bad about your hardware dropping in value as you can just give the old tech to them. Never sold any of my old computer components as when I upgrade the old parts just trickle down the chain to the next person. It empowers them to play games more easily which worth more to me than getting a bit of change back.
This is exactly how I rationalised upgrading to the 1tb oled steam deck😂 giving the lcd to my sister
Since the moment the Deck was announced all I've wanted is an OLED version. It's my only complaint about the OG Deck.
100% worth it for me.
Same. OLED is just so nice
I love my OG deck…it replaced my switch OLED which replaced my vita’s…and now I’m getting the OLED and passing the OG down to my 14 year old.
I didn’t check all the comments, and I’m late so no one’s ever going to read this but for the sake of clarity and accuracy:
You state that in OLED, every pixel/subpixel is backlit.
That is incorrect.
What makes OLED special is that there is literally no backlighting. Instead, the pixels self illuminate when electricity passes through them.
That presents a bunch of advantages:
1) When a pixel isnt needed, the pixel literally just shuts down, hence why blacks on oled are so perfect
2) Because there’s isn’t any interaction between the pixel and something else for the pixel to activate, response time is far lower than any other currently available technology.
Naaa! is not that big of an upgrade for me to go buy it again. If it had more power maybe but i play dock most of the time and my tv is an oled.
That's cool, but u can't fot an oled TV in your pocket

Another thing to note is the frame doubling from 45->90fps is a power saver. since no actual rendering is done for half of the frames it just displays the prerendered frame over again you can see a noticeable improvement in battery life vs keeping it at 60 70 80 fps etc.
😂 that is not 90fps then
@@hanfo420 you can also do 90fps.
Can't wait!

Glossy would look better

Neither. It's a nice to have. I have an LCD version, with no plans to upgrade because my use case is sufficiently served.
I can respect that.
OLED suffere mors in resolution which gives it more noticeable screen door effect while latest LCD have superior pixels arrangements hence less screen door effect (it's a know thing in VR because of how sensitive it's in that market)
But Micro OLED is the best when it comes to pixel arrangements
I’m going for a Limited Edition one but I have no idea how “extremely limited” it will be. I probably don’t need to upgrade, but I do use my Steam Deck every day and I want to support the success of the product so it thrives and continues into the future. I think Valve is doing a much, much better job with this device than any other handheld PC maker and I want them to continue.

Cool story bro
I also got the 64 model with anti glare glass…I’m buying the OLED and passing the og off to my son..
I wouldn't fall for these videos. A bit more colours is not worth spending 300 again. I'm not doing it. Don't use the deck that much to be justified 😊

(Or somewhere in the middle where some light comes through.)
The way OLEDs work is the pixel itself produces the light.

I think most Steam Deck users just don't use Steam as much as other programs & things like emulation & tweaks, but for those of us who got it partly to participate more with Steam as a platform, it's surprisingly changed very little since launch.

if I wasn't an enthusiast and using handhelds for content creation and guides, Steam Deck OLED would be the end-all be-all handheld for me.
Each pixel doesn't have its own backlight. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. Each pixel IS its own light.

I just spent $800 on a 64GB steamdeck less than two months ago. Had I known this was coming out I probably would have waited.
I already ordered my limited edition oled version for my birthday!! Can’t wait till I get it!! I am so excited!! 🎉 happy birthday to me lol.
Just ordered my Oled deck last night, can't wait till it gets here!!
And the Oled fan is even better right
Yeah apparently noticeably better.
I have LCD and i love it, and i just bought OLED, and my answer is a big, fat YES!
I mean you forgot to mention that screen is visibly bigger!!! Thats a huge plus in my book.
I'm on a pretty tight budget so I'm getting an LCD Deck 64GB for $300 and a 512GB microSD for $30 (it's on sale)
Never going to burn in from that
If you're really worried, you can probably just do your own screensaver. Like opening chrome in game mode and playing a UA-cam video of something that isn't a static image, while it downloads your games.
I got my OLED in on Wednesday and the screen is a GIGANTIC upgrade. This thing is absolutely gorgeous.
I just got a LCD 515 steam deck, about a month ago in the sale,
Valve won't swop it for a oled one ,even though I have not opened it yet ,as it's a Xmas present.
So will probably sell it ,and go with the Lenovo go .
Got the limited edition a few hours ago. Soon afterwards I ordered all the Steam Deck accessories sitting in my Amazon shopping cart. 😅
Just bought the 512 OLED Model, so glad I waited till they worked out all the software kinks and then did this face lift. Can't wait for it to arrive!
We saw this massive battery improvement in the switch when they went oled. 4-5 hours to 9 on full charge. This is the thing that makes me want a deck now.
Nope
@@c-tothefourth4879 what?
I have a 64GB LCD model I installed a 1TB drive in, have had it for about a year. I bought a 512GB OLED model today and will install the 512GB SSD in my LCD Deck and sell it, and keep the 1TB in the OLED model. The battery life improvement along with the heat reduction is already enough for me, but the OLED screen seals the deal.
I "accidentally" ordered the limited edition one on launch... Now I just gotta figure out what to do with my other handhelds before the wife figures it out.
Haha this made me chuckle, I’ll be the same if I order a steam deck. Currently have the OLED white switch, so my wife would be like “erm, didn’t you have a white one before?!” 😂
@@beaniemac83"I got a new case for it, see, it's thicker"
@@dwarfcow haha love that, great idea 💡
LeGo is still better. That 8.8 display is gorgeous even with an LCD its a high quality one but the software needs a lot of work
Sold my Deck once I got my Ally, didn’t see the need to go back, however I am willing to give this version a try, will try to get the clear one.
