This so much I have the OG 64GB model that I upgraded to a 1TB SSD I will be waiting for the SD2 which valve said is 2-3 years away because they want APU tech to advance more
agreed, deck wasn’t available in my country either so I had to buy it somewhere else. even though I admire the capabilities of the oled, this baby is staying with me until deck 2 releases.
@@AyBee9725 I had to buy a lot of them, but I'm not salty that I did. This existing means other companies are going to have to push the envelope further to compete. It's a good thing.
I'm going to keep my Ayaneo 2 for playing Honkai Star Rail and Game Pass games and then picking up the Steam Deck OLED 512GB to be my daily handheld. Best of both worlds.
While it was just an evolved PSP the few extra barriers the Vita felt like the birth of the modern handheld. It was just very well balanced spec-wise and so smartly designed, especially for the price. If I could change any part of gaming history, I think I'd retroactively make the DS and 3DS more basic/sensible like the PSP. I love so much software on those devices but I didn't enjoy Nintendo's gimmick heavy focus of that era.
I liked your bit at the end where you reassured a lot of people that this device will be relevant even in the near future and that they shouldn't be in a FOMO-state. You can always stream to this device and it will still stay relevant that way.
What does relevant mean? People use this phrase but I’m certain they don’t know what it means. This is a toy. It plays hundreds of thousands of games. It will do that 50 years from now too.
@@Whatsup_AbroadYou're taking what they said way too literally The portable gaming handheld market has been in this flux the past 2 years where "can't miss" features have been added every couple months, but they're not perfect so they get "outclassed" by another device with a few different features or slightly better performance. The whole appeal is to get the newest best performing thing This Steam Deck OLED doesn't really try to feed that cycle of FOMO. Its a Steam Deck that has every single convenience feature one could want, now has a full sized OLED display that none of these devices 2x-3x the price have, and isn't trying to have the best performance in the market to compromise its other components. In 5 years, there will be no device "better" than this in any way except for performance (and maybe VRR, but I digress). This will still play games at an exceptionally high level of visual splender because of the screen. It will have an extremely long life of popular relevance because of that I can also anecdotally say the same for myself and the Switch OLED. There is rumor that the new Switch, will be much more powerful, but ditch the OLED screen. For that reason, even if its backwards compatibile, I dont see myself selling my Switch OLED to upgrade right away like I did moving on from my launch Switch or Wii U. Ill either upgrade after a couple years of Switch 2 or Ill own Switch OLED and Switch 2 simultaneously.
@@Whatsup_AbroadIt just simply means it will be talked about and praised for years to come but yeah that last bit probably doesn't make sense to use the word relevant. I wouldn't call this a toy because it's more of a machine that plays hundreds of thousands of games.
@@Whatsup_Abroad it's not a toy, it's being used as one maybe. But I had the previous one and used the steam os desktop mode to replace my PC on which you can do lots of things beside gaming. So as the other commenter said, it's a machine that can do entertainment. As for the relevant part. It won't suddenly become obsolete in a year or two so I think the word relevant is appropriate. But hey, don't shoot the messenger my guy.
As someone who cannot afford the OLED Deck I am so happy for it to be released and happy for people who can get one, I hope they enjoy them to the fullest because now I'll be able to purchase old LCD version which by no means is outdated, just waiting for refurb 64GB to be re-stocked, it's an absolute steal here in UK at £249.
If u can't afford an oled deck, and you're opting for the meager 64 gig that isnt even enough space for barely one triple A game lol, a refurbished deck at that! U really need to question yourself what are u doing with your life? Tell u what, I'll sell you my mint condition steam 512gig deck for about 450 bucks with the carrying case. How about it? That is, if u can afford it ?
@@redcrimson1028 no one purchases a 64 gigabyte steam deck without using some sort of expandable storage. i'm surprised you couldn't understand that. be better.
@@redcrimson1028okay, dude. No need to be a dick for no reason. He can buy a 1TB SSD for around £50 and that would be £300 all in. Thats nearly half the price of a 1TB Steam Deck Oled. Also, the valve refurbished units are better tested than the brand new stock. I haven't seen anyone having issues with them.
I think the TDP and fan stuff will get adjusted in the the coming weeks with proper tuning for the Oled model. Valve has stated that the new model will atleast match the existing model at all settings so its probably just a case of adjusting power curves on the TDP limity along with the fan curves for the new fan.
@@SWOTHDRA According to other videos I've watched the OLED is actually about 5% better in most use cases. Not sure what's going on here in Takis video.
@@SWOTHDRA Without using TDP limiter many reviewers have seen a 5-10% increase in frame rate. Personally I see no benefit to using the TDP limiter for any game, the fan noise doesn't bother me and the heat the steam deck produces isn't a concern either. Granted if I can't play a game at a consistent 40/60 fps I am not playing it on my Steam deck so I never try to limit it's power because of this.
Thanks for the honest review Taki. I am one of those owners on the fence about purchasing the OLED version. I value screen quality, so it will probably be worth it.
Improved Bluetooth latency has 100% convinced me to buy it. The current Steam Deck has pretty bad audio latency with Bluetooth speakers. Getting 5.3 Bluetooth to fix that would make it even better for my pc setup
Same here, I had troubles having my headset mic not working cause it forced the internal steam deck mic. I had to plug it in the audio jack for it to actually read my headset mic input
@@bipbop3121 That's the thing: my speakers don't have an Aux port and the USB-C doesn't support Aux adaptors. My phone doesn't have this issue, only Steam Deck. So, Bluetooth 5.3 it is. Plus, it'll keep the desk looking clean
512GB the only option with a glossy oled. Better tk get this model and upgrade the drive if the etched glass bothers you. Also, it is better to get an antiglare screen protector for the 512GB if that is your preference over etched glass as you would need tk dk antiglare on top of etched glass to keep the antiglare properties and that is gojng to diminish screen quality a bit for sure.
I feel this 3 year refresh is an important statement on how committed they are to the platform, we know what Valve time is like, and even for this, i think most was not expecting some sort of "OLED deck" with the crazy amount of refinements it has in just basically 2 years?, many would be happy with just an oled screen. I still believe that 2026 is the ideal time for when a new APU and 32GB ram combo would appear, and i feel the goal is to get as much as possible out of 20w ideally, not to say you cant force it to draw more power, just seems to be the ideal scenario for this system. Im here for the battery, I dont over use my deck i often keep it at 15w, to me knowing i can push it if i wish, this will give me longer playtime, AND better performance with how refined they made... everything.
I would love to see them eventually release an OLED model in white. I know I could accomplish this by going to Dbrand, but I'd rather not have a human (me) doing the skinning, as there's way more room for error that way. Not a deal breaker by any means ofc, just something that could be nice to see.
If the limited edition color way sells well, which we all know it will sell out day one, Valve has said they will look into doing more different colored steam decks
@@MortalTempest that's super exciting. yeah I'd be shocked if that limited edition didn't sell out instantly. hopefully they follow through on exploring other color options!
@@0FFICERPROBLEMThat's not hideous! I love transparent things! Miss the days when Nintendo made transparent consoles, nowadays we have to buy a custom shell just to make it look that way, wish more companies just widely released transparent anything.
You can definitely tell the impact the etched glass has on the OLED screen when he does the performance comparison. If you upgrade definitely go with the non etched model.
Absolutely. I'm getting the 512GB because then I'll get the full OLED experience. With how bright the screen is, it can overcome most reflections. Of course if someone is playing it at the beach or the dentist's chair, yeah they might want the etched screen. But the vast majority of people should get the glossy screen.
Any tempered glass screen protector will give you the high gloss pop again as well. Going to do that after I get the Special Edition one, that translucent plastic gives me Gameboy Color nostalgia.
@@4RT1LL3RY I would still like to see some in-depth testing of that method. I know the general thought is that when you put a gloss screen protector over the etched glass screen that you negate the etched glass, but I wonder if there is some loss in luminance/quality/contrast. It's not like we're deleting the etched glass, so it's hard to believe that there's no impact.
First time on this channel, awesome review/comparison. Hit almost all of the points i was personally curious about. Also, f'n LOVE the RX-78 Skin on your OG deck 😍😍😍😍
Was getting kinda tired of my win 4 6800U not because it’s bad. It’s AMAZING just my hands were cramping cause it was too small even with a grip. Just sold it today and gonna go ahead put that money towards this new steam deck. SUPER excited for this. 90HZ hades on the go is about to be nuts
yeah but the steam deck will age quickly/already has when it comes to triple A games tho, might want to go with a 7840u or even wait for the strix 8050u apu around the corner imo
The point at the end about streaming to this device is super relevant. The Wifi 6e upgrade and the screen will make this a great companion to a desktop PC for years to come, even when a subsequent Steam Deck 2 is released.
I was thinking of getting a Steam Deck a couple of days ago, but then they announced this, and I have just enough to get one. Guess I'll go with this one.
Very impressive, but I think I'm sticking with the OG deck for a real long time. Runs everything just fine and I don't really mind the screen's colors. I'm still running with a launch switch so I think I'll be good for a long while
Man Valve is just sitting back in its chair, schooling everyone in multiple regards and not making a sound about it. In my head cannon Id like to think this is all intentional & the result of things working well at valve and gaben just being a “boss while ironically not really being a boss at valve at all. Perfect 👌🏻
Valve went over and beyond for this refresh. I have the original SD, but for people who have yet to make a decision for a handheld makes this version of SD more compelling given the price point.
I hope they do a steamdock refresh as well. Would be great if the dock had m.2 drive bays, sd card slots, or maybe an external GPU bay. or just a few more USBs on it.
i just cant see them doing that - it'd be too much like a concentrated effort in creating a switch-like console vs portable mode and splitting the compatibility chart they've been doing for years into docked vs undocked. you can achieve it with 3rd party anyway.
Hopefully now valve can allocate resources to providing more countries with local stock of steam decks. Despite being told they would for aus/nz, we STILL have to import from other countries just to get them. Which basically leaves us with no warranties on stuff we paid over rrp for.
If it makes you feel any better, lots of current deck owners are buying a new OLED model and putting their original Decks on the secondary market. That should help either way.
Having spent more than 400€ upgrading the Deck to have 3TB of the fastest storage of the planet, the amazing backplate of JSAUX (transparent case with cut for venting canals and fan), and all the work done with performance and visual plugins, there is absolutely zero reason to even think of this version. However, for those that have none, it's a no brainer for sure.
So a WAY better screen with HDR, 25% larger battery capacity, less battery drain, better repairability, faster charging, 90hz refresh rate, quieter fan and better performance are zero reason to consider this version? Lol.
@@PJthePlayer they probably meant zero net reasons, ie the improvement of getting another deck are not worth sacrificing all those upgrades mentioned above. A few months from now this opinion could slowly change as mods and optimisations are made for the new deck, but also flaws will be discovered for the new deck.
@YounesLayachi I have the original Deck, as well with tons of upgrades (SSD, Hall-effect joysticks, JSAUX backplate, etc), and the thing is some of those upgrades will transfer easily to the new Deck. I will be ordering it the day it's available and selling my current one. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
@@PJthePlayeryeah I thankfully sold mine for pretty high price to offset cost of the 512gb oled it’s a no brainer even if I had set up everything already well on there, it’s worth re doing lol.
Going to miss my limited Dbrand skin "klone of the kingdom" as well 😓 But oled screen it all I have dreamed for this device since beginning. Never hope Valve was able to released it someday.
I got the OLED now and usually if I cant play a game on it, I just dont play it. It's a real bad policy, honestly, but I just wanna play Deck games until Deck 2. This is somehow the most obsessed I've been with buying and playing games since I was a kid, it really got me out of a rut, it's just so comfortable and personal.
Crazy to compare this to the PS5 slim and how much more features Valve added in compared to Sony. Already have a Deck and Ally so won't pick this up, but def worth it if you don't have one.
Hey Taki, I'd really like to hear your thoughts specifically on 512gb model vs 1tb model. A lot of people are discussing the effects of glossy vs anti-etched screen, but I think it's also worth noting that only the 1tb model comes with the new case, so that further complicates the decision, at least for someone like me.
this was a great video. i especially liek the tdp comparison, no one else has done anything like that yet and it's especially interesting that despite the og steamdeck winning each comparison you still state you prefer the oled steamdeck.
3:02 I can see that the new case does not have the convenient strap to pull out the Steam Deck! This is a minor drawback from the previous case but for me I would definitely miss it.
About the OLED screen, i think can talk about a side note I have a Vita, Oled one, i still use it for PSP, psx and other emulation, even if i can find something more powerfull that play those system at higher resolution, for a cost that would be under a vita right now the reason is simple, the OLED give an experience really different that any LCD, it bridge a gap where you gonna accept less perfomance but with a better visual
@@jarod3371 Because this came out of left field, and if given the choice I bet you 90% of the people would wait for the better model? This isn't a standard more efficient apu, better battery life refresh. The screen is a huge improvement..

@@richardwolfangel4724 such is the nature of technology. You buy a new phone and a better version comes out within a half a year. You buy the OLED steam deck and in 2 years the steam deck 2 will blow it out of the water

Thank you, I will be trying to get the limited edition OLED Steam Deck when it drops next Thursday. I have a 512GB Deck and will sell it after I test this new one. I don't see any possibility of going back to the OG Deck after I buy this new one.
With a WiFi 6e router/AP you'll get excellent performance streaming from a gaming PC. I can't wait to play games with max settings, HDR, and ray tracing streaming to the Deck. It will look beautiful, be completely silent probably, and last several hours.
If i get th enw version i will keep my old one and use for my tv with the dock the oled will be for handheld. Also not sure if would get much for my old on when everyone will be trying tog et the new one. I was also thinking of that Limited one but don't think ti worth it when the 512 has the same stuff, The carry case not to sure I would want it out the big case one and as fo the screen with the glass the color get bad with it unless you adda screen protector to it. I might just grab the 512 version i think i cna live with that.
I'm already streaming Cyberpunk from GeforceNow at max settings and RTX overdrive on my lcd steamdeck and it looks already amazing. I can't imagine how good it could be on oled. It would be even better if this panel would also offers 1080p options.
I mainly clicked on this video because you used kena bridge of spirits in the thumbnail. First game i played on the ps5 start to finish and it was absolutely magical
I remember thephawks saying that the reason the deck can perform so well at low TDPs compared to other habdhelds is because the TDP using doesn't truly stay locked. It fluctuates up and down as needed. Maybe the OLED is so efficient that it doesn't have to do that anymore. With would explain the lower performance on lower TDPs and less power draw

This is a game changer. The OLED screen was a big upgrade for the Switch, this will make the Steam Deck stand even more out against competitors. And also cool they really dropped the prices on the older LCD models.
The power consumption question reminds me of The Phawx's video on how the deck technically boosts its TDP past what it's actually saying it's using, so there may be some discrepancies between performance because of that? Would RAM timings also affect things? either way, excited to get mine in my hands!
@@gilot19 you didn't think about VRAM ? The system memory is the video buffer in this APU, faster/more bandwidth automatically gives more FPS in situations where the GPU is starved
Forget which interview it was, but Valve have stated that the primary reason to increase the memory speed is for lower power consumption as the CPU can return to a lower power state faster. So yes, it helps.
Im happy that the oled version was released, i would love to have it but not many changes to the performance, im very happy with my 256b model, il upgrade when comes the steam deck 2
@@npcimknot958 I think they mentioned in an interview that you wouldn't be able to upgrade the current Steam Deck's screen to an OLED one. I don't remember the exact reason, just that it's not designed for it or something along those lines. And it's not simply about plugging in a new screen. So for this model, I imagine it has some tweaked internals to allow the OLED screen.
Amazing to be honest, i don't know why but this looks like the best handheld so far. Sadly SD not available in my country but when SD2 comes out hopefully will get that one. Valve all the way 🤙
I have the 64gb model so upgrading is a no brainer, throw in the OLED panel and better battery life and all the goodies like better wifi and separate bluetooth antenna and I am going for the 1TB model. You can fix the problem of ethced glass if it bothers you with a glossy film protector. The power indicator now flashes for a variety of reasons like if it's charging or battery is low or if charging is complete...(there's whole list). I'm happy they tweaked that. I'm trying to sell mine because it'll just sit there gathering dust.
Taki, great vid but in your deep dive on the screen can you please do a comparison of how Low the brightness goes. Say for example compared with the Switch OLED. I’m sure others like me play at night and have sensitive eyes unless the brightness is really low. Thanks again, some nice info here.
Detachable controls are also good, you get a bigger screen to put on table while holding very light controllers and you can put your hands anywhere (like switch but with much better grips)
I'm definitely going to look into getting one for christmas (if they still have it in stock haha) I still need to look into upgrading my PC or getting a new one altogether, but seeing videos come out like yours and linustechtip's has been really tempting me to get one immediately. There's that and I play a lot more comfortably on a handheld like on my phone or a 3DS. But with this and the loads of steam games I have, having this would be a dream. I hope they'll have these on sale in the future fr.
2:30 looks like they left room for improvement. detachable cable, and rotate out of the way when no in use prongs are things the next Steam Deck could do.
Did not see this coming from Valve. Own a LCD Steam deck and seriously contemplating getting a Lenovo Legion Go due to the bigger screen. Now Valve comes with this. OLED screen just looks so good.
I wonder how much better the thermals on this will get with a JSAUX backplate with the fan cutout. We already saw 5* to 10* C drops on the OG deck, can only imagine how much of a drop it will be with this. Also can't wait to see what someone like Cryobyte does with undervolting and OCing with the new 6nm chip. I think this chip is gonna be a tinkerer's dream for long battery life with very good performance.
Question: I know you prefer the etched screen of the 512 old model of SD. Do you think the etched screen will diminish the clarity of the new OLED panel, or is the advantage of being glare resistant make up for it? This is the only concern I have: do I get the middle one or the 1tb one.
you can get the 512GB one and if you don't like it, just get an anti-glare screen protector and it will have pretty much the same effect as the 1TB model screen.
if you want the absolute best picture... you get the non-etched. It was the same way with the LCD Steam Deck... the non-etched looked better, as long as you have no glare.
I believe you had different proton versions on the RE3 test that showed the OLED model having lower performance on lower TDP. That *could* be the reasong for the unexpected result.
I want that Limited Edition OLED model. I bought the 512GB on an 8 month reservation email, and it was good, but man It felt lacking in some aspects. This is the version I really wanted, I am buying it if I can get one. Especially that LE translucent version
I wish they would have sent out 512 models to people as well. The etched screen kills the OLED contrast. I know it still looks great, but I'd really like to see one of you great reviewers get both to compare.
Just an FYI, as someone who has seen and used both, this is a non-issue. This "issue" only really presents itself under studio lighting. 99% of people will never use the Deck in that situation.
@@Duurin FYI I've dealt with this in both monitors and televisions multiple times and it's absolutely makes a difference from all viewing angles in all lighting conditions.
Omg what lights you using? That's some insane quality. Also what camera & do you shoot in log? Oversampled? That's just easily the best sharpness & quality video I've seen on youtube apart from those hdr videos for obvious reasons.
Taki this isn't saying anything against you, because all of the reviewers are saying the same basic thing. "This isn't a performance upgrade." But it IS a performance upgrade because things like screen quality can be quantified and performance can be measured. Better color reproduction, better contrast ratio, brighter, etc. Those are all measurements that show visual performance. Also the battery performance is much higher. FPS isn't the only measurement of performance. If that's all someone cares about they can keep their old Deck, but for people who understand overall performance, this is absolutely a big jump and well worth it.
I agree, I don't like how on one hand they are saying your old steam deck isn't invalidated, yet on the other oh this new model is great. The steam deck released fairly recently, even more so once you consider the back up due to supply issues. Not a fan of the move to be honest. This should have been an option from release.
@@kaluimoku2467 well right, the general audience only talks about performance in FPS, but that's because reviewers and other publications only ever focus on FPS. Handhelds should be covered much more in-depth as far as total performance goes.
When will you people realize peak performance isnt all it takes to make a good handheld lol. The third psrty support, repairability, upgradability, customizability, first party hardware and software support, resale value, etc are just unmatched with a steam deck. Its like the iPhone of the space. It might not be the first or the best at everything, but it does what is intended well enough for everyone

@@GrimAbstractlmao i loved that sassy tone. Fr, fr, bump it up to 5tb storage too. It's a gaming console, storage should be also a high priority after all. More storage more games and sales!
I want to like this, simply because I love OLED so much, but I owned a Steam Deck before, and my biggest mark against it was the incompatibility with games outside of Steams ecosystem. I have a sizable GOG library, and on my OG Steam Deck, next to none of them ever ran (yes I tried them using Heroic). At first, I thought it might have been the games themselves being broken, but when I tested out a few identical games that I owned on both Steam and GOG, the Steam versions just up and ran while the GOG versions did not. As someone who owns several hundreds of GOG games, this was a major turn off to me. I think the Steam Deck is cool for two types of people 1) Anyone who buys over 90% of their games on Steam, which should be a large number of people. 2) Anyone coming from console that wants an easy transition into the PC world. The Steam Deck consolized the experience. If you're like me, and you have diverse tastes in which launchers you buy your games from, this is not it. Before I spent my hard earned money, I went inquiring online about the Decks compatibility with other launchers, and so many people from the Steam Deck community lied, saying that it's stupidly easy to run games from third party launchers. It's not. It wasn't until the release of the ROG Ally that people started being more vocal about finally having a PC handheld that can run everything, thus validating my poor experience with the Steam Deck in that regard. The Steam Deck community led me astray simply because it's full of so many toxic fanboys who will say anything to anyone in order to justify *TO THEMSELVES* that they made the best purchasing choice. Don't buy into it. The Steam Deck isn't a bad device, especially with all it's newer upgrades, but if you own tons of games on other launchers, don't count out your other options, and further, don't be fooled by the Steam Deck community. When you ask for information online, make sure you're asking a consumer, *NOT* a fanboy.
Mine runs all Uplay games totally fine, but I really don't think you should've got the deck expecting it to run stuff outside of Steam consistently well. They never promised anything like that. You basing your opinion presumably off of insecure dipshits on Reddit, is really your problem and not Valve's. Best of luck with whatever alternative you find.
@@YourPalHDee Being that Valve never openly stated that the Steam Deck has poor compatibility with third party launchers, no one will inherently know that information on their own. I see that as a lack of transparency on Valves behalf. When the company themselves don’t provide that kind of information, all the consumer can really do is ask around online. I don’t see that being on the consumer. I see that as a failure on Valves behalf. Thanks btw, but I do have something already. After my OG Deck sold on eBay, I bought the ROG Ally. It’s not OLED, but 108% sRGB color accuracy is pretty damn nice regardless, and best of all, it runs everything no matter what launcher I use. It even runs the anti cheat games that the Deck struggled with, even though they are native to Steam’s store.
Well it is possible to play games from other launchers, but it is not necessarily always easy and plenty can go wrong. But it is wasted potential to buy a Steam Deck if you intend to play games from mostly other stores, because then you are missing out on a lot of Steam specific features (like shader caches etc..). But if other stores is really so important, you could install Windows on it and it becomes just like any generic handheld.
I only tried around 12 games from my GOG library from heroic launcher and most of them work without much effort, a few require checking on protondb to fully function (FMVs etc) but that's it.
They should sell the bigger OLED display for current deck users to replace. Don’t care about the battery, internals, case etc. don’t want to invest 600$ for a hardware upgrade that might not even fix the current bugs
Don't know if anybody has mentioned this in the comments yet and I know I'm late but the Phawx did a great video on the TDP thing, it has to do with how tdp is handled differently on the models and kind of a misleading measurement for effeciency at times.
i think that if you have eyes that can see, OLED is a massive upgrade from LCD. especially in this case, because the steam deck's screen is particularly awful.
Well technically it's a smaller version of that chip at 6nm which improves battery life and has better low tdp than the other apu's rn, this is just a refresh

@@Whatsup_AbroadYou're taking what they said way too literally
The portable gaming handheld market has been in this flux the past 2 years where "can't miss" features have been added every couple months, but they're not perfect so they get "outclassed" by another device with a few different features or slightly better performance. The whole appeal is to get the newest best performing thing
This Steam Deck OLED doesn't really try to feed that cycle of FOMO. It will have an extremely long life of popular relevance because of that
I can also anecdotally say the same for myself and the Switch OLED.
@@Whatsup_Abroadtry to infer a little
You wouldn't think a .4 increase in screen size would be noticeable but it actually helps with small text quite a bit.
I've noticed that this screen is very sharp for in-game text now.
The contrast of OLED helps make the text pop, but OLEDs also tend to have weird subpixel layouts that interfere with text ...
That was genuinely a sweet story about the FedEx carrier and your offer - pleasant people, the both of you. Much love, Taki.
As an owner of the original Deck, I'm glad they didn't release a higher performing Deck yet. I think this was the right choice.
If u can't afford an oled deck, and you're opting for the meager 64 gig that isnt even enough space for barely one triple A game lol, a refurbished deck at that! U really need to question yourself what are u doing with your life?

I think the TDP and fan stuff will get adjusted in the the coming weeks with proper tuning for the Oled model. Valve has stated that the new model will atleast match the existing model at all settings so its probably just a case of adjusting power curves on the TDP limity along with the fan curves for the new fan.
Nah the new deck seems weaker.... thats a huge no

@@SWOTHDRA Without using TDP limiter many reviewers have seen a 5-10% increase in frame rate. Personally I see no benefit to using the TDP limiter for any game, the fan noise doesn't bother me and the heat the steam deck produces isn't a concern either. According to Digital Foundry it is a bit better than the old.

If latency bothers you nothing beats wired
Only thing missing then is the detachable smaller inner case

@@FreeRobux712Another pathetic attempt at a put down I see...
Glad you had a better time, in getting your hands on this new Oled model, compared to the first SteamDeck!
I’ve always wanted them to make a white variant too. A skin just ain’t the same
If the limited edition color way sells well, which we all know it will sell out day one, Valve has said they will look into doing more different colored steam decks
@@MortalTempest that's super exciting. yeah I'd be shocked if that limited edition didn't sell out instantly. hopefully they follow through on exploring other color options!

But the vast majority of people should get the glossy screen.
but i want the special case so
You can just get a screen protector, it negates the etching
Any tempered glass screen protector will give you the high gloss pop again as well. Going to do that after I get the Special Edition one, that translucent plastic gives me Gameboy Color nostalgia.
@@4RT1LL3RY I would still like to see some in-depth testing of that method. I know the general thought is that when you put a gloss screen protector over the etched glass screen that you negate the etched glass, but I wonder if there is some loss in luminance/quality/contrast. It's not like we're deleting the etched glass, so it's hard to believe that there's no impact.

yeah but the steam deck will age quickly/already has when it comes to triple A games tho, might want to go with a 7840u or even wait for the strix 8050u apu around the corner imo
The point at the end about streaming to this device is super relevant. The Wifi 6e upgrade and the screen will make this a great companion to a desktop PC for years to come, even when a subsequent Steam Deck 2 is released.

This is the unbox video I'm looking for. Thanks a lot !!
I don't think it'd be enough to explain the difference but I did notice when comparing TDP, the OLED model had its wifi enabled while the LCD didn't.
That would be so he could play the game on both devices without using a 2nd purchase of the game on a separate steam account.
@@TerrifyingTuba eh just set both systems to offline mode. It's what I do when I have to run 6 stations at the same time for a tournament
I was skeptical about upgrading until I saw that white microfiber cloth. I need that thing!
That paired controller is how you know Taki's a real one
But oled screen it all I have dreamed for this device since beginning.

Taki this isn't saying anything against you, because all of the reviewers are saying the same basic thing. "This isn't a performance upgrade."
But it IS a performance upgrade because things like screen quality can be quantified and performance can be measured.
Technically correct, but when the general audience talks about performance they are referring basically to FPS
What are you talking about?
@@TheMangerChildhe is overyhping it. Also the resale value is quite low.
@@oo--7714it basically crashed overnight. I'm seeing steam decks being sold for less than $400 with 512 GB. That's a sharp drop
@@jeevejavari8461That’s because of the OLED being announced. I’d be curious to see what it was like before the announcement.
So glad you were sent one, and props to the delivery guy!
This just has me looking forward to a 5nm Steam Deck. I love my Deck, but there's definitely performance disappointments with recent releases. A 50% performance increase would be great.
Why stop at 50? A 300% increase in performance would be nice. While we are dreaming, I would love to see 64gb of ram too.
@@GrimAbstractwell because a 50% increase on the original, next year is totally realistic. Considering the original is RDNA2 Zen3 and next year it could be RDNA4 Zen5...
@@GrimAbstractlmao i loved that sassy tone. Fr, fr, bump it up to 5tb storage too. It's a gaming console, storage should be also a high priority after all. More storage more games and sales!
Looks great don't have any handhelds will buy 512gb oled model.
Screen going look so so much better, runs cooler an quieter nice.
That etched glass on the expensive models is so unfortunate. You're taking a beautiful OLED and dulling it down.

I wouldn't call this a massive upgrade it's a substantial upgrade it's a bit of an over exaggeration
0:53 bruh the way i wouldve taken one of those windows handhelds💀😂
I want to like this, simply because I love OLED so much, but I owned a Steam Deck before, and my biggest mark against it was the incompatibility with games outside of Steams ecosystem. I have a sizable GOG library, and on my OG Steam Deck, next to none of them ever ran (yes I tried them using Heroic). At first, I thought it might have been the games themselves being broken, but when I tested out a few identical games that I owned on both Steam and GOG, the Steam versions just up and ran while the GOG versions did not. As someone who owns several hundreds of GOG games, this was a major turn off to me.
I think the Steam Deck is cool for two types of people
1) Anyone who buys over 90% of their games on Steam, which should be a large number of people.
Thinking about upgrading because I am an oled enjoyer
They should sell the bigger OLED display for current deck users to replace. Don’t care about the battery, internals, case etc. don’t want to invest 600$ for a hardware upgrade that might not even fix the current bugs
The new OLED display is not backwards compatible with LCD steam decks. It takes up less space which allowed some of the major improvements.
Don't know if anybody has mentioned this in the comments yet and I know I'm late but the Phawx did a great video on the TDP thing, it has to do with how tdp is handled differently on the models and kind of a misleading measurement for effeciency at times.

I rarely purchase anything day 1 but ill be ordering this 100%. Just hope my fingers can click fast enough!
Using an antiglare display with an OLED, disgusting.
Whatever lol. I prefer antiglare tbh
>new vent smell
Well, I wasn't planning on upgrading but I guess I am now!
People keep calling a damn OLED screen a massive upgrade. Yes it's brighter, 7% faster and more battery life. The chip is the same damn chip.
i think that if you have eyes that can see, OLED is a massive upgrade from LCD. especially in this case, because the steam deck's screen is particularly awful.
Well technically it's a smaller version of that chip at 6nm which improves battery life and has better low tdp than the other apu's rn, this is just a refresh
I am not referring to the screen as the reason why this is a massive upgrade.
@@TakiUdondo you have starfield I'm wondering if the ram upgrade can improve performance a touch. Digital foundry said cyberpunk was 8-10% better.
Faster memory can help, the improved cooling may also improve headroom of the chip.@@Spencerwalker21
