barkingtree88 She should have worn it again in later seasons. It was very nice. Much better than the pink one she wore at '93 Skate America, in my opinion.
This program breaks my heart. If she had been able to land that combo at the Olympics she would have been the 1992 Olympic silver (maybe even gold) medalist and the events of 1994 NEVER would have taken place.
...and she might have gone down in history as a champion; yet without the tragic and complex story of a real person with a tough past -- that has been, is some ways-- far more relatable than anyone could have guessed.
Nearly 23 years later, no lady is even attempting the triple axel jump combo, especially in a short program. She was an athletic genius, light years ahead in the sport. Say what you will, but Tonya did single-handedly revolutionize the sport although she never received any credit for it. That triple axel of hers was the meanest and baddest the ladies field had ever seen seen! She still inspires.
I can't believe the ridiculousness of this comment. Midori Ito revolutionized the sport, period, end of story. Without Tonya everything would be exactly the same as it is, except the sport wouldn't be as notorious as it is.
Tonya made history. She was amazing at ice skating and she didn't deserve all the hate she received. I can't imagine how disappointed and sad she became when a judge deprived her ability to ice skate again. It was something that she loved and was good at and it all went down because of a scandal that wasn't suppose to go down like it did. Tonya deserved so much more her husband and the stupid media ruined her career. I just hope she had moved passed the hate in her life and emerged into a holy lifestyle. I wish nothing but the best for Tonya. Everyone should go watch I,Tonya btw. Her story deserves to be seen.
Maria lwom i dont agree, she deserved the bad things that came her way. Not because she did something bad, but because she did something bad in the realms of figure skating. Sabatoging another skaters chance for olympic gold is no small say, thats a moment every skaters been working their entire lives for, why does she have the right to take it away from someone. If say she was caught for thievery or arson, i would argue her skating career should continue as she was indeed a fantastic talent
It's such an utter travesty that Tonya's life took the turn that it did - cause really, a US lady with that kind of power, edge control, jumping ability, and the audacity to skate to "People Are Still Having Sex" ....well, someone like that just doesn't come along every day.
I only saw this in the dramatized version of the movie, and immediately thought; "The director using this song is a little bit far-fetched. I wonder what song Tonya ACTUALLY used all those years ago..." And sure enough...people are STILL having sex! LOL
Tonya, I doubt you watch this but you should know...many of us love you. I know we will never see you skate again, but I hope you do....for yourself if no one else. You an amazing athlete, and you are missed.
I love this music and program. It's amazing to think that if she had skated like this in Albertville (Sp and Free) she'd most likely be olympic champ. She really had so much talent! And I loved her choreography too.
Triple axel combo in the short program--she's gutsy (and apparently a gifted skater who must have worked very hard for many years to do what she does here). Also gutsy is the choice of music ("People are Still Having Sex" by Bill LaTour!!!!). You can tell she loves it and it accentuates her incredible speed (I'd be interested in knowing how fast she is going into those jumps) and stamina.
I had a similar experience. I started watching skating at the time of the '92 Olympics. Harding was instantly my favorite. I remember being so sad that she didn't skate well at Worlds that year. I didn't become aware until later that she had been much more successful the prior season. I always thought of her as the underdog. If she had kept up with good training habits she would have been a favorite in '92 and '94.
It is interesting that I remind of Tonya's performance more than Nancy after 20 years. Figure skating is thought as political sports, but these video show us how talented athlete she was even though Jude or media disliked her.
Now a days I u make your own costumes your praised for it! What a loss for not just Tonya but for the work just think of the greatness her sentence took from us.
It's wonderful she landed the triple axel so often in 1991. She also landed it in her long program here. However, to me it always looked tilted in the air, even when she landed it. I also think the fact that she couldn't hold on to the double axel here may have been a sign that she already was not training sufficiently. She also didn't accomplish a double axel in the long program. To the best of my knowledge, she never again landed the triple axel again in competition. If she just would havd trained, she would not have needed to have any concern about other skaters. After her terrible '93 World's long program, Nancy trained like a beast. Tonya should have done likewise after her 93 national's performance. Then there could have been a real contest with no need to resort to injuring the competition.
She was a head of her time! She experienced a lot of inequality. Just because she didn't fit the "princess" role didn't mean she wasn't a great skater.
@frostdiamond1 1991 was the only year during which she landed the 3A in competition (4 times total I think was the figure if I recall). She declined afterwards because of a lot of factors, from injury to lack of training.
I'd say she shouldn't be a legend, but only because she shouldn't have been stopped. I wish I didn't have to see her as a legend. I wish I could see her as a current skater.
@mlc2005 The problem with the music is that it is titled "People Are Still Having Sex" by LaTour, which one can't exactly print in a program. Shame because it certainly suited her style of skating perfectly and highlights how incredibly powerful her spins were.
That's ridiculous. Watch them side by side. Tonya's were smaller and leaning in the air. Technically they were not consistent or solid jumps. Midori's were text book and landed throughout her career. I think Tonya landed 3.
"Best skater of all time."!!?? Aren't you going a bit overboard on that one my friend? She was amazing, and had incredible talent, especially speed, power and jumping. But if you're impressed by how "high and far her jumps are," you can't overlook Midori Ito, who is widely regarded as the greatest female jumper in skating history. For me the perfect skater would be a lady with Kwan's consistency and artistry, Cohen's lines, and Ito's jumping ability. That would be awesome!
Tonya's form in and out of her jumps and air position were much better than Midori's Compare Dick Button's comments on both. He was not a big fan of Midori's form.
+JYoder Both had good aspects with regards to their triple axel : Midori's jump height and distance and Tonya's jump height and her tighter leg position. Consistency goes to Midori, but Tonya's was closer to better form, I think.
@@TressBragaMidori had a higher success rate with her triple axel because her form was flat-edged, as well as her Lutz jumps. Tonya had a perfect axel form but she always tilted it.
Tonya made that costume herself.
barkingtree88 She should have worn it again in later seasons. It was very nice. Much better than the pink one she wore at '93 Skate America, in my opinion.
barkingtree88 wow she’s clever, talented
Really?...very nice this costume!

Nearly 23 years and there is still no one in sight with the athleticism to match her.
I can't believe the ridiculousness of this comment. Midori Ito revolutionized the sport, period, end of story. Without Tonya everything would be exactly the same as it is, except the sport wouldn't be as notorious as it is.
That feeling when you forget Mao Asada, who has an even more iconic triple axel

THAT MUSIC! Knock it OUT, girlllll! BANG! Triple Axel-double combination??? She just went CRAZY on US!
"People are Still Having Sex" ...she was bold, powerful, just phenomenal!
You never hear about this triple axle double toe combination. Nailed it! Amazing!!

wow, that death drop was suspended in air! Tonya Harding always reached dizzying heights every time she jumped into the air.
I love this music and program. It's amazing to think that if she had skated like this in Albertville (Sp and Free) she'd most likely be olympic champ. She really had so much talent! And I loved her choreography too.
I'm Australian and Tonya skating always fascinate me but now I feel emotional when see Tonya on ice. Tonya still gold all the way.
AMAZING!!!
I loved her skating
Her death drops always wowed me! I feel like most skaters sort half ass them, but they can be just as exciting as a good triple jump.
I miss the announcers from that time too.
I love how she dance and the music. She was so good!

I love her layback spins.
NorthEast81 she had a beautiful layback
God she is Legend - period, Damn Tonya Harding Has Gotz Skills, Way tO GO! Tonya; Represents.
That death drop! Always loved the way she made that skill her own. She also makes that Triple Axle look so damn easy.
So amazing...great!
I have no idea what a death drop is so I googled it and then came back...holy shit you're right lol. Her death drops are intense.
love her she is the best and always will be
that 3axel combo is deleriously GOOD --- tonya was one of kind

I think had she not gotten involved with that scumbag Gillolly, there's no telling how far she might've gone.
I think she was a favorite in 92. In the short program kiss and cry, the US commentator says ‘talk of an american sweep has been pretty loud”
So beautiful♥︎
I LOVE this music!!!!!
She was bad ass! One of the best ever! She is still cool on "worlds dumbest"

*amazing*
She fuckin kicks ass in my heart. Always will!

Amazing!
Triple axel combo after a layback spin... Even in 2016 in major event a handful of ladies are doing it....
honey in 2016 nobody is doing the triple combo....plueeze tell me their names cause i don't think they exist...
The little girl that could..!!!
She was a head of her time! She experienced a lot of inequality. Just because she didn't fit the "princess" role didn't mean she wasn't a great skater.
If the movie I Tonya is accurate, then it's a shame that she wasn't allowed to ever skate again.
that was one heck of a death drop. not to mention the 3-Axel.
@aelred123 I love how she skated INTO the ice, whereas Yama and the others sort of glided...Tonya would dig her blades into the ice!
@HattieLovesCattie I do too. She was an incredible athlete. Natural talent, she didn't even train as hard as the others...imagine if she HAD!
@alebeau4106 The music is "People are Still Having Sex" by Bill LaTour. Good dance music!

@cesare0561: I think they say Mao Asada was the first to land a triple axle combo at the Olympics.
Just like miki ando...but tonya is the most talented!
I think Tonya wil get more respect on her athletic ability as time goes by.
Her technical abilities were always respected. Her actions outside of the rink however . . .
@mlc2005 The problem with the music is that it is titled "People Are Still Having Sex" by LaTour, which one can't exactly print in a program. Shame because it certainly suited her style of skating perfectly and highlights how incredibly powerful her spins were.
@hilljayne Amen, same with Chris Bowman.I met him in LA years ago,he was so nice.He and Tonya had that natural talent and didn't train hard enough.
She was so much cuter back then..
スピンから始めるところ、伊藤みどりさんと似てる。二人ともタイプが似てますもんね😊
Does anyone know the song she used?
Tonya's triple axels were higher than Midori's. I think Midori's were faster.
I agree frankly Tonya triple axel was for awesome to watch than any triple axel by a guy
That's ridiculous. Watch them side by side. Tonya's were smaller and leaning in the air. Technically they were not consistent or solid jumps. Midori's were text book and landed throughout her career. I think Tonya landed 3.
hilljayne absolutely not. midori higher, tonya faster.
She ended winning this event the next day in her white outfit.
isnt this the same music Daniella Silivas used in 88?
What song is this
The song is called "People are still having sex" by Latour.
No, it starts out similar, but it is different music
Any one know whats the music track she is skating to?
I only know the title, " people still having sex ".
Because you can't even mention her name anymore.
shes the first to do 2 triples axels in competition not that combination
@cesare0561 Nothing new,the Japanese like to cover up the real facts.
omg how embarrasing ppp
