I'm not saying she didn't know about it, but for people to say that she was directly behind it is completely unfair and incorrect. Her husband, who was placing money on Tonya's skating career, wanted Nancy out of the way because he knew that if Tonya got to the Olympics it would make him lots of money.

Exactly Tonya....ENOUGH APOLOGIZING!! She lost her career apologizing for something that she was a victim of as well makes her almost seem a party to it I think. It isnt like Nancy would accept it and befriend her again because of it so sometimes leaving things be is the best thing you can do.

I watched the movie last night, and obviously it's just a movie so might not be correct, but Tonya had no money she came 4th in the Olympics so she lost sponsorships and was back to working as a waitress. The husband or bodyguard paid some guy to do it. Apparently, the bodyguard also sent Tonya a threatening letter. Why on earth he was a bodyguard, I don't know he really was super stupid in the film to the point of it being a bit of a laugh really.

So she actually did much worse and didn’t want it to come out in court, there was proof she knew about it beforehand and most likely would’ve gotten found guilty for orchestrating the attack.

Just finished I, Tonya a few minutes ago and I've learned a lesson today. That if you're poor, no money and powerless, without influence, everybody will gang up on you and they'll kick you as hard as they can when you're down and get away with it cuz they know you have nothing to fight them with. I feel sorry for Tonya. It won't happen to her or her career will not be ruined say if she's a daughtef of a wealthy politician or someone from a family with a wealthy background. It's just sad and I really feel sorry for her. 😔

She should have gone to the authorities so that if anything did happen she covered herself by trying to inform them. The cops could have alerted Nancy Kerrigan to a possible attack like they did for Tonya when there was a death threat against her. @@frechiverse no I don’t believe that in her situation. Yes those situations exist but her husband has always been portrayed as somewhat of an idiot. He hit her but was truly in love with her and didn’t really have the smarts. He was never portrayed as threatening in any way. She just didn’t have any examples of good relationships, that’s why she went back to him. It was either her mom or him. The lesser of two evils I guess. That’s why I DID feel bad for her. I have NEVER, in any documentaries, got the impression she was petrified of him because he was always kind of a dunce. She had the opportunity to go from rags to riches had she surrounded herself with better people. Not every woman is a victim. Sorry. I know that’s the world we are living in today, where all woman are victims and never wrong but I don’t buy into it. Her situation was that she was rough around the edges, understandably, and didn’t know how to better value herself because of her moms shitty parenting. That’s why people will always have a soft spot for her, me as well, but she knew what was going to happen. Do I think she should have been banned for life? Not really. That was a huge blow to her. This was a great opportunity to be an adult, accept culpability, and sympathize with the actual victim, but it's always more important to convince others that she's a victim too. If she drank, drove, and killed a little girl on a bicycle, she'd blame the kid.

I think today most people are much kinder in their opinion of Tonya. I haven't seen I, Tonya yet, but it sounds more like it tells her side of the story. I'm glad she is finally getting to do this.

Heartbreaking to watch Tonya Harding. She might not hv been a very nice person but she hasn't had it easy all her life at all. When most kids were being coddled by their parents, she was pushed and cursed around by her mom. With a psycho mother like the one she had, it was hardly surprising that she got mixed up in all sorts of life troubles.

What if that attack was a danger to Nancy's life? And what if that attack actually had to stop her career right on the spot? Would Tonya still feel bad, or would she be at least happy to win? I just think people need to think more for themselves than to choose pity

I can also understand Kerrigans point of view. Being clubbed with a steel crowbar on your leg while in prime condition to compete in the Olympics ? One would likely be pretty unsympathetic as to how much Tonya Harding had to do with what her "group" did. However from the outside looking in, ones sympathies might be more nuanced. I still have admiration for Tonya Harding for coming from what she did to compete at the top of her sport.

It is also a fact that Nobody would be interested in this point and time in watching a movie about Nancy Kerrigan. Let's face it, It wasn't right what happened to her but she had the privilege at the time. Normal jealousy..sure....that doesn't make Tonya a villain. my 2 cents and I am old enough to remember the event. Lots of people grow up poor and don't weaponize it as an excuse to stand by while someone gets hurt. If you know something say something. Tonya was punished and rightly so, for standing by and letting it happen. No skated for Nancy, she earned her place herself. Taking out the competition is not something you get to blame on poverty. Sometimes people raise themselves and do much better with having good values than Tonya did. Nancy was targeted because she was better than Tonya or there would be no point in attacking her. That stuff follows you. As someone said below, it is a sad story.

I agree! Unfortunately, these days ppl love to reward bad behaviour and romanticize criminals!! Her skating was her chance to live a better life and rise above her hardships. She was justly punished. I also believe that she deserved to live her life and try to make amends but I’m not going to reason away her involvement in this horrific act. Nancy has to live with the aftermath of that attack the rest of her life. I hope Tonya did not profit off that movie!
