    As a Tekken beginner I agree. In comparison to other fighting games, it feels like I am moving up too fast for my own good. There is so much that I feel like I need to learn before moving up the ranks but I keep going up anyways. I'm afraid that it will suddenly get drastically hard and I am gonna be stuck trying to learn it all at the same time in order to advance instead of a slow and steady progression. Which is why I keep going back to training mode every 2-3 matches

      Yeah they used to have a bronze rank called kyu it used to be after beginner. Right after beginner you become 9th kyu and it ranges all the way down to 1st kyu. After that THEN you became 1st dan. I feel like that is what messed it up the most.

    The OG rank system introduced in T5 and killed off in Tekken 7 Season 2 was an invisible ELO calculator that essentially required you to win x no. of matches against a player of the same skill to gain points towards a promotion , a loss would equal -1 a win would be +1 so if your win rate was 50% you'd be stuck in that rank until you got consistently better than the people in that particular rank, you had to have a win rate of around 60% and then after Orange ranks a win rate of 70% (the last 10 games record in T7 was actually there to help players keep track of their ELO). in Season 2 they changed it to be a straightforward points system which displayed how close you were to ranking up HOWEVER they changed the balance of wins and loses meaning if your win rate was 50% You'd always rank up which is why ultimately EVERYONE could reach Red ranks and beyond and invalidated the skill set each colour grouping would denote. in T8 ranking up is VERY EASY almost trivial because it only takes 3/4 wins to rank up for most brackets and the cost of losing is very minimal vs the cost of winning.
    Since T5-T7:S1 the rank journey would break down like this;
    Green rank ; you understand your character and can apply offense with frametraps but don't know match ups , can break throws sometimes .
    Yellow Rank ; you've mastered all of your characters moves and can apply offence and you have a grasp of what good defence is i.e low parry junkyard on reaction, can break throws most of the time and you've built a foundation for certain match ups i.e Sidestep left on mishimas , be aware of steve's counter hits, duck and punish certain strings be patient against Xiaoyu and Eddy.
    Orange Rank; everything from yellow rank but now its about learning about your opponents tendencies and adapting using match up dependant knowledge. at these ranks you'll notice that you lost because your opponent counterplayed your strategy or you could adapt in time to your opponents tendencies intime to win the game. can break throws consistently if your opponent telegraphs it.
    Red rank; you've mastered your character and you know every match up, this is when "real Tekken" begins where its player vs player and less about cheesy gimmicks or knowledge checks . At this point you should be able to react to throws and both you and your opponent are fully aware of each others strengths and weaknesses. both punishment and combo damage is optimised to a level were every action matters cause it could possibly cost you 40%-50% on a simple whiff. In the arcade days players who were Red rank and above would usually be the guys who could hold their own in a local tournament or go the distance in a deathmatch. being in Red rank meant you was in the top 10% players for most characters
    All of the ranks above Red essentially build off Your own skills as player with Blue ranks being where you'd be recognised as a character specialist and would be placed very highly on the leaderboard. bare in mind that in T7 Season 1 there was less than a 1000 Tekken God primes meaning for 80% of the cast being a TGP would make you the top 10 out 10,000 ranked player for that character.
    by the middle of season 2 till the end of season 3 the system was so lax that essentially anyone could reach any rank if they played enough removing the potential to get soft locked into a rank (too strong for the rank below , to weak for the new rank just achieved) which is why vanquisher became the new warrior by the end of T7s life span and today Garyu is the new Warrior in T8

    There are a few Deflationary factors they Implemented to offset the Free Ranks to Warrior and Free Promo chances after Demotion.
    For Example, every player you run into with a Higher Rank,will cost you the same amount of points as if you lost to someone of the Same Rank.
    For example if you are a Garyu who loses to a Tekken King (11 Rank difference) you will still lose 400pts. While they are only gaining +125 pts. A Garyu has like a 90% chance of losing to a Tekken King.
    Beating players of lower Ranks will also yield you less points, so in order to Rank Up, you need to consistantly Defeat players of Higher Ranks. This wasn't the case in Tekken 7 So a Garyu beating a Destroyer will only net you 200pts. While losing to a Tekken King costs you 400pts
    Lots of Tekken players are actually complaining that the New System is too HARD to Rank Up because of these adjusted Point Distributions
    Will this be enough to offset the Inflationary Forces such as the Free Ranks up to Warrior, and Free Promotion Chances after receiving a Demotion?
    Only Time will Tell.
    The only thing I can say is if Ranks in Tekken 8 really as Free as you say, you and every other player Casual up to Expert players should all be able to get Max Ranks with no Sweat. If not, then the System is Clearly Working as Intended

    My suspicion is that heat, and the tornado combo animation has made it easier for people to conceptually understand offense and what you “need” to do. Couple this with fewer ranks you have fewer matches where your defense is truly tested.

(never got demoted in red or reached a point where i got stuck) I think i could of been high blue ranks had a grinded it out. But unfortunately i am lazy and i get bored quickly. This getting beat and beat until i get better i fortunately didn't have to go through.
    I am just starting out on Tekken 8, faced a Destroyer rank (which is the same rank i was when i beat LTG lol) yesterday and it felt like fighting a Season 4 green rank in Tekken 7. Its a casual joke. We have 8 or 9 dead ranks, (thank god, you have mentioned it. you cannot lose points until warrior, almost no one knows this, like 80% of players do not know this, because the game does not advertise this … of course not) . you get a free bonus point handout every time you rank up, but no penalty for ranking down. People can still plug without getting any penanlty (they have to lose at least 2 times the points) . Its a joke. Every fighting game should use a system OR THE exact system like street fighter does once you reach master rank, a true elo based ranked system, where you start at a baseline and you can go up and down. So you have in essence, negative ranks. A linear rank system is so… archaic and problematic in general. Thats my summary

    Games evolve. Tekken 8 is the most mainstream Tekken game via ads and mainstream plugs like the NBA and UFC advertising. The special button system and modern controls implemented to make the game more appealing and friendly for newer people to pick up the game. We can see that has been sucessful, people who never played tekken or were too scared to try the game are now buying it. But you saying you are "not discourage anyones rank" or "it's too easy" is just another way of saying, "You only got to your rank because the game is too easy". Rank isn't the word of god and doesn't mean like rank tells everything. But you are not getting to blue ranks by playing "easy" people. Also, if people are getting beat by the special menu, thats their fault. But you're coming off as you have distain for people who is at a higher rank than you cause the game is too "easy".

    Simplifying the ranks, removal of infinite rematches.
    I am now Fujin after couple of weeks of game's release, this is nothing compared to the long journey i had with T7.
    I look with pride to my struggles through T7's ranking matches, reaching Genbu was a cause for celebration, took me months, alot of defeats, alot of knowledge checks, long sessions of death matches, repeated demotions to get there, all the way to Tekken God rank eventually.
    Full of grief, stress, hate messages, rivalries, overcoming obstacles, getting better.. etc
    What we have now in T8 is fun and all, but it isn't what i was expecting, after reaching Fujin that fast i think i will be done with the game soon.
    No motivation to play more.
    That's not how i thought at all when i played T7.
    The complex ranking system in T7 motivated me to stick around, climbing from a certain to another took months, you had a sense of achievement and you craved for more.
    Simplifying ranks and removal of infinite rematches was the worst idea implemented in T8 and the developers will feel that sooner or later when large number of players drop the game quickly after reaching certain mid ranks that make them feel fulfilled.

    People rank faster because there are fewer ranks. I don't know about this elitism now because yeah it's slightly easier to rank in Tekken 8 compared to 7, but no word will fool me. This game is mind-numbing hard and for someone who plays totally casually, Orange ranks are a wall. Plus, what's the problem if you can easily get demoted like the last time? I'm close to being Fujin, but it wasn't easy by any means. I watched the video, but I still don't understand why bother with a system that is pretty fair in my opinion. People that deserve their rank sit in them because Plateu'ing is still very much a thing. Most of my friends that consider themselves good are stuck in Garyu, and it's stuck like a clogged toilet. Red ranks special control players are not going higher in most cases because you are at a disadvantege while using it against someone who actually know how to play. My last thought is that no matter if with cheese or with skill, if you are going higher you deserve it. People either can't handle you or your cheese and when that happens then it's on people that they can't get past cheesy moves/tactics.

    Kyu (pronounced Q) were always a one time beginner rank. You played those once on your first playing and you could not lose rank. When you got to 1st Dan, you could start to lose points. Brawler was basically like Garyu and Warrior was Mighty Ruler. Now with all the casuals and the reduce ranks, the ranking system is watered down from what it was. couple of points here and I agree 100% with you the ranking system has changed for the worse but here is why:
    1. removal of deathmatches mean more people in the matchmaking pool. this is especially a good thing at higher ranks when in tekken 7 super high ranked people would wait 20+mins to find a match. if you only do a best out of 3, more people can matchmake with you.
    2. reducing number or ranks in each color means that there will be more player clustered together. this is simply for matchmaking reasons. instead of a pool of lets say 15% of the player base at red rank in t7 now you can potentially matchmake with 30% of players. This can also help with matchup variety when in T7 you never saw a lei or a ganryu. It was always popular chars like paul, kaz, and bryan
    3. getting a promo right after a demo is so that grinding within the rank stays hard but creating a floor for you to fall back on means you arent punished for a string of losses. this also helps to clump players together and encourage rematches right after a demo. usually in t7 if you got demoted you would just get off because it is a huge motivation and session killer.
    not saying I agree with these points but clearly namco designed this game to be more inclusive, less punishing, and more casual than the hardcore tekkens of the past. We will still see skilled players in tournaments winning. rank wont matter in this game but a huge indicator of skill will be win percentage instead and also games played. a tekken king with 1000 wins and a tekken king with 500wins are 2 different players entirely. 1 had to grind to learn the skill and another already had a huge amount of skill from before. This is how you can be proud of your rank by looking at how long it took relative to others. sorry for the long read but I like to be analytical

    Depends on region you play imo. If you are in Asia, I think it gets competitive around Orange Ranks. Since most people haven't yet climbed up. And almost say 33% of your matches would be with someone who is a high level player in T7.
    Almost everyone knows half life combos, are good at throwbreaks, sidestep, punishes etc. And they adapt like crazy.

  • @Faso26TV
    @Faso26TV 5 місяців тому +1

    Yea I agree with you on multiple points; your general key arguments are things that I feel the same way about. Ranks don't really showcase to you who is actually a good player and who is just a beginner anymore so you gotta just fight them. I think the last part of that sentence however is actually pretty cool to me as it introduces a different element into Ranked Matches and that is the ideology of figuring out with what kind of player you are dealing with in the first moments of a match. But outside that? Its a total mess. Doesn't help that there are also the Pluggers, One and Dones and just overall Winquitters when they win the rematch against you. So even then the Ranking systems aren't accurate from a gameplay standpoint. The experience while experimental is something I'm torn between. On one hand I like it, on the other I dislike it.

    It doesn't matter the promotion/demotion thing, either way you'll be stuck if you can't be consistent. I'm new to tekken but had my share of other fighting games, and I dunno...does any of these things that you say really matter? @neorickio 5 місяців тому +1

      And I appreciate the polite conversation as well =) Just one thing that im not getting...the challenge is still there, I dont understand why you think otherwise. Probably you'll be sitting in a higher rank compared to T7 since the measuring is different now, but you can still grind and keep pushing further. Like, if this was a racing game, would it matter if you're measuring speed per kilometers or miles? In the end all you want is to have better times. Similarly, if your rank was red, but now it will be purple, you'll still have people with similar skill and your consistency is what will say if you'll rise or fall on the ranks. Anyway, keep it up bro 😉

    • @tek87
      @tek87 5 місяців тому +2

      You only have that view point because you are new and don't remember things the way they were before. People are seeing ranks they worked hard being given away free. It makes the whole system lose validity. It becomes hard to track your progress over the course of games because the measurement has changed. I made it to purple rank easy now when before i could barely get into red. How much of that is because I'm actually getting better as a player? I will never know. The ranking system needs to stay consistent to be a reliable measurement of a players skill.

I had just made it to Raijin when in it happened and it bumped back down to Seiryu, but then I ended up hitting the Ryujin wall and thats kinda where I stayed because I stopped playing consistently. Deff probably coulda hit Tekken King in T7 and I know for fact I can hit God in 8. I’m already at Fujin at just a month into the games life span. But this also gives me incentive to play other characters too.

    “Back in T7 season 1, when you made warrior you were considered a good player. Equivalent of T8 Fujin”.

Funny you say that i been playing tk8 like i did with 7 and now i have 2 characters in dark blue rank.......... people who play with fundamentals were seen in earlier red ranks. The red ranks now only mash mindlessly.....i literally passed red ranks 5x already.....

      It's not a new system. It's a watered down version of the old system. Most of the ranks are the same. They just reduced the skill required to achieve them, making the system worthless as a means of gauging a players progress from game to game. They should have kept it the same.

    • @JDTV91
      @JDTV91 5 місяців тому +2

      @@tek87 My point is it's a new game. Stop trying to look at it through the lens of Tekken 7. Stop comparing what a blue was in 7 to what a blue is in 8. Players will be ranked where they're ranked and new norms will develop when considering where good players are and where shit players are. They just need to fix the plugging issue. That's the only thing causing rank inflation. Inflation doesn't exist because of your preconceived notions of ranks based off of tekken 7.

    I don't take the game seriously. Ir really feels like Namco doesn't want us to, anyway. I think they're trying to make climbing easier for newer players. In T7 I think what maybe held me back was that I'd rematch people like 5+ times even if they were destroying me just because I felt like I was learning matchup knowledge and I didn't care about losing. Now that we can't do that, I climbed quick af.
    But what frustrates me is all the pluggers. It's the worst it's ever been for me. Probably every 5 games. And I rarely ever get a rematch unless I lose.
