You are all very wonderful and I am so glad I can share my thoughts and music with you. The one thing that always resonated with me with The Beatles and music in general is how it can bring people together. I try to stay as unbiased as I can but I will always have my own interpretations of the history we discuss in these videos. While working on this video I felt a lot of confusing emotions about the members of my favorite band but the one thing that stood out to me is how we learn to forgive. John, Paul, George, and Ringo often found middle ground after the end of their band and I think that's speak volumes to the validity of their words on Love. Which is at the end of my day, the most valuable thing I encounter. I am proud to talk to every single one of you on anything you'd like, feel free to email me anytime at TheHollyHobsSuck@gmail.com

Your posts are all excellent. Heartfelt, thoughtful, thought-provoking, and always respectful. I have grown up with the Beatles and they infuse most every moment of my life. My “favorite Beatle” (what a silly thing to do, to have to have a favorite Beatle) has always been Paul. I have long struggled with John and much of what he did in his life that was unkind. Please don’t get me wrong, he did many amazing things, and wrote some of the world’s most beautiful music, but I struggled with many of his unkind acts personally, until one day I read something someone said about John in a website forum. “John was conflicted.” Understanding and accepting that eliminated my need to judge John. Together, the Beatles were amazing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feeling about them!!!

      The HollyHobs ~ Yeah,
The Truth & The Real Reason that the Beatles broke up is because John Lennon couldn’t stand Billy Shears.
The True Story is found in the fascinating new documentary footage called =

it also explains clearly why John Lennon became a Heroin addict and why they stopped playing live at the height of their careers.

As a musician and band leader, I always felt that no one outside of the band should be at rehearsal or in the studio. The tendency to perform would influence people, and when someone needed to be corrected there would be a human tendency to be defensive or overly critical. There is usually an intimacy within a band that is seldom revealed to outsiders, which is as it should be.

In my opinion, THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO ON THE BEATLES BREAK UP

    • @camilochaves4771
      @camilochaves4771 5 років тому +18

I disagree. Many "facts" said in the video are questionable to say the least and the video doesn't offer a conclusive reason as to why they broke up. For instance, John didn't meet Yoko magically at an art gallery like Yoko wants us to believe. Paul said the true story is Yoko approached him looking for one of the manuscripts of his songs and he refused but told Yoko to try John instead. Yoko went to John and he gave her the manuscript for "The Word". Also, according to Ringo, Paul made up the story of him going to Paul's house to tell him he couldn't release the album. I'm a Beatles fan and this question has made me research and understand the dynamics of the band better, so I can give you my two cents. The Beatles is really John and Paul. George and Ringo are awesome, but they could be replaced and the band would still carry on with other musicians in their place like Eric Clapton. John was the leader of the band until Pepper, where his heavy use of LSD, depression, and Paul's ambition changed the leadership of the band forever. The Beatles went from being John's band to being Paul's band. There was always competitiveness in John and Paul's relationship, but from Pepper to the final days, it became unhealthy and a lot of jealousy, backstabbing, and sabotaging took place. John was always bitter George Martin preferred Paul to him, and he always felt his songs were made experimental and handled sloppily on purpose as a form of sabotage, while Paul's songs would take them days to make until they were perfect. Moreover, John lost respect for Paul as an artist. Macca started making granny songs that the rest of the band despised, like Lovely Rita, Obla di Obla da, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, etc. The Beatles broke up because John and Paul "broke up". They broke up because they had diverged artistically and John wasn't interested in being a part of Paul's music. The resentment accumulated by John over the years due to the change of power dynamics in the group, Paul's backstabbing in order to be the top dog of The Beatles, the annoying presence of of phony Yoko Ono (who nevertheless is crucial for John's sublime, creative outburst for the years to come) , and the death of Brian Epstein were the major factors to the Beatles breaking up.

  • @danielgolus4600
    @danielgolus4600 3 роки тому +169

I'm 67, and lived all this as a teenager. You did a decent job with your breakup analysis. One big thing not mentioned was John's burgeoning drug consumption (mostly LSD in 1965, then later with Yoko, heroin). This made John lethargic. He now wrote far fewer songs, and no longer really led the band. Paul filled John's void, which later gave rise to his "bossy" complaint by the other Beatles. And Yoko didnt push a "Beatles-destruct" button, but she sucked-out whatever joy remained of being a Beatle. Another point: In Paul's April 1970 self-interview, he never said he was "breaking up" the Beatles. (Neither did John in that September 1969 Apple meeting). They both said THEY were leaving the group. (Paul's interview also said he didnt know if his departure would be temporary or permanent, which gave us heartbroken Beatles fans hope. Alas, it was permanent.) Finally, the biggest point of all, which I already hinted: The Beatles never envisioned becoming as big as they did. It was unprecedented - especially in this pre-Internet/social media world. Their intense fame became an albatross. A burden. There were no more fame-mountains to climb - they were firmly at the very top of the World, with nothing left to conquer. But even with a fading, less-involved John, they thankfully soldiered on. Their joy was slowly fading as well (but not their music!), with Paul being the only energetic Beatle by 1969. Yoko's ever-presence, and John's heroin use, along with Allan Klein's bullying chicanery, effectively killed the Beatles in the autumn of 1969. Although in 1970 Paul wrote he was leaving the band, he actually filed legal proceedings on December 31, 1970, to formally dissolve the Beatles partnership (which none of the other Beatles truly wanted - perhaps each held hope of reunion?) In the 1970s there were numerous reunion talks among the four, some serious. But for varying reasons and situations, it sadly never happened. (The partnership was finally dissolved in late 1975.) The Beatles, like Princess Diana, died forever young. And we still miss them both.

They had been together for a decade inside a hurricane. They were all married, and pushing 30. The Yoko argument is incredibly superficial. The band was John's, then it morphed into Paul's. Paul was difficult as seen in the Let It Be film. George was sick of being treated like a kid. Ringo didn't like the negativity. It was time to part.

This was very thorough and a good explanation as to why there were a dozen reasons they broke up. In the end, they broke up because of their personalities - or rather, Paul's get-up-and-go-to-work ethic didn't entirely mesh with John's art school mentality and George's being able to see through all of the BS that surrounded them. It was only a matter of time. They probably broke up at the right time, but it's a shame they couldn't all work on something together in the mid-to-late 70's.

If you listen to most of Paul's songs in the second side of Abbey Road, he was basically announcing he was leaving the band. One sweet dream came true, but over the years it turned into you never give me your money. Once there was a way to get back homeward, but there wasn't any more and it was lost forever. And man, how he knew that he'd have to carry that weight a long time because many people were going to hold him responsible for the group's breakup and he was right on. Man did he ever get blasted for his first couple of albums by the music critics holding him responsible for the group's split-up. Finally, in The end, it's love you, love you, but I just can't go on staying with you any longer. It took a lot of negotiating just to get Abbey Road done and George Martin himself said he was very surprised when Paul called him up to produce Abbey Road. The more I listen to those songs, the more I think that Paul knew that after Abbey Road it was over and he wrote those songs with the end of The Beatles in mind. Makes for bittersweet listening.

I really like the way you explained the break up. I have one disagreement however. In my opinion, Yoko played the victim. There was no way she did not want to control John. She wanted in, she wanted control. She wanted John to herself. Whenever she was like "Oh, gee...me? I didn't want to be in the studio. John MADE me go". I claim BS. She was jealous of him. Remember, she slept in John's house when he was still married, rubbing it Cynthia's face. Everything Yoko did was proof, to me, she wanted to be front and center. This is all my opinion of course. Thanks for a great video.

"There was no way she did not want to control John." What is that based on, your Ph.D. in psychology, or did you read her mind? "I claim BS." What's your evidence? It is sad that under a well-researched and rationalized video, you would offer such a comment. I wasn't around them, so all I have to form my opinion are her actions. I think anyone with a brain would agree she influenced John in a big way. This is how discourse takes place. I put out my opinion, you disagree. But you have to show why you disagree. All you did was attack, which means you have nothing to back what you say, up. You need to step off. I did not comment on the video's content. In fact, if you care to read my post, I complimented it. My OPINION was Yoko's control of John and how she played the victim. Saying that she never wanted to be in the studio, etc.. She is a strong willed woman. Research that and you'll know she is. She came from a fairly tragic upbringing, which formed her ideas on relationships. Research it. I did my research. I dare say I've forgotten more about the Beatles and their lives than many people know. Next time you want to attack someone for stating their opinion, grow some balls and back up what you say . Prove I'm wrong. Where's your Doctorate? Attacking someone for their opinion is the act of a person who doesn't know how to debate. I made it clear it was only my opinion. It's not law. No one cares. Marianne Faithfull likewise remembers Jagger speaking positively about Klein to the Beatles, only she alleges that he did it false-heartedly. "Mick's strategy in dealing with Allen Klein was fairly diabolical," she wrote. "He would fob Klein off on the Beatles. Mick called up John Lennon and told him, 'You know who you should get to manage you, man? Allen Klein.' And John, who was susceptible to utopian joint projects such as alliances between the Beatles and the Stones said, 'Yeah, what a fuckin' brilliant idea.' It was a bit of a dirty trick, but once Mick had distracted Klein's attention by giving him bigger fish to fry, Mick could begin unraveling the Stones' ties to him. I wanted to say something about The Beatles, but I was so taken by your song, I decided to respond to it first. The lyrics really say a lot about those mixed feelings we have about ending a relationship. Almost all of my breakups have been amicable, so the separations were in many ways more difficult than if it had been a shout fest. Nice job on your song; it's my favorite of the ones I've heard you play.

When you figure that they had been together for around 10 years total they were moving in different directions music wise. Added to the fact that personal issues like Paul constantly trying to get them in the studio, John's heroin problem, George issues with having only 2 songs per album etc. it's no wonder they separated.

"You Should Leave This Unread" is a fantastic song. I wish I could buy it on CD. It's so good. It's original yet it has a sort of ex-Beatles flavor to it. I bet it would fit perfectly on a John Lennon album. But my imagination didn't stop there because it could comfortably sit well among other songs on a McCartney album. The same with George and last with Ringo. It's easy to fantasize any one of the solo Beatles recording it.

I must thank you truly for this video! I can tell you’ve put a crazy amount of effort into it. It sums the subject up very well, better than I've seen anyone do before in all honesty. The break up tends to get very simplified. Everyone often focuses on one or two areas only and that's it. Yoko gets the most crap. There were actually so many reasons to why things happened the way they did. To me, the key thing that you brought up is the fact that Paul's confidence in the group solidified and grew from 1967 onwards while the others had the opposite development. The dynamics completely changed, as you stated. John and Paul were still very close but as for the band, they were on completely different wavelengths. John and George became a bit of a team, Paul was his own team equally strong to their team and Ringo was an island. Sometimes John would still join Paul's team to fight George and that would lead to George obviously not standing a chance, having to bring in someone like Eric Clapton in order to be listened to. Poor Ringo just stayed out of the fighting and only wanted to make music.
The disagreements were many. Did they go full circle? Probably yes. Did they grow apart? No, not necessarily. To truly understand, I think you also have to understand what was going on with the previously very strong-going Lennon/McCartney team. I think things just turned into a psychological game of jealousy, especially between the two of them. They bitched at each other and wanted to be strong on their own, using their wives as weapons to show how happy they were and how succesfully they would be doing without one another. John didn't hate Paul. In fact, his diaries show that he was obsessing over him. Reports have also made it clear that he listened to all of his records which often brought him to joy or tears. He also cried hysterically at a private airing of the Let It Be movie, seeing Paul on the big screen. The two of them loved each other more than most of us will ever understand, but their competiveness went too far. Just like brothers.
After Epstein died, it wasn't a matter of team building anymore. It was a matter of making it on your own. Paul was very secure in doing that but I don't think that John was, and as always John reacted bitterly when he was insecure. He felt hurt by Paul's creative rush that went to his head. He felt hurt when Paul worked alone on the Family Way soundtrack in late 1966 (although he himself had been working solo on a movie). He felt hurt when Paul started leading the band that he once had started himself. He felt hurt when Paul was the first to announce his departure. He felt fooled and left behind. It was a sense of loneliness that led to him and Yoko being miserable and spending days doing nothing but heavy drugs. I personally believe he never fully recovered from the feeling of losing his brother since teenage years. It was too many losses. His father left him, his uncle died, his mother died when he had just gotten to know her, one of his best friends Stu died, Brian Epstein died and I feel like he felt abandoned by Paul. Jealous of Paul rushing off towards success. And the thing is, you can't blame Paul for this. He didn't know, John would never tell him truly how he felt. He would lie to him and reassure him that he was fine but Paul would eventually get to know the truth in other ways. John was always like that. Reacting with a mask of fury instead of showing his true, vulnerable self. He protected himself in that way.

Now that Get Back came out, I have to point out that George leaving the band in 1969 was caused by him being excluded by John and Paul when they were working on Two Of Us, there was no argument between George and John because of Yoko, George simply got up, stated that he was leaving the band and left.
    Great vid nonetheless!!

John Lennon and Paul McCartney when they were writing singles and solo albums on their own after
the break-up would actually send messages to each other in the songs they were writing.
      They both admitted as much!
(John Lennon says in one of his songs,
"The only thing you ever did
      was 'Yesterday' ".)
      The song that you performed
here at the end is something
      that either
Paul or John might have penned.
Have you ever considered contacting Paul McCartney and possibly asking to do a song together?

There were many reasons but John started drifting during Pepper getting heavily into drugs. Yoko entered the picture. Due to the abandonment issues John had from a fractured childhood he was extremely vulnerable and easily fell for a forceful personality like Yoko’s. Psychology 101- she became the long lost Mommy-In the book “Here,There, and Everywhere” Geoff Emmerick recounts that he would refer to her as “Mother” creeping the rest of them. She wanted John to herself for her own reasons and the Beatles were in the way. I always believed she knew exactly what she was doing-accounts of there marriage after bear this out-I mean she drafted Mae as a concubine. John’s drift also allowed Paul to step in and act as the leader and that initiated the decay of him and George.
as seen in Let it Be. And John’s push to hire dirtbag Allen Klein was a titanic misjudgment of character by John ( like magic Alex) who convinced George and Ringo to sign with Klein. So many many reasons ( boredom, tired of each other, musical differences) but Yoko wasn’t thrown under the bus-she was the bus! So no it was not only Yoko’s fault but she was a major factor along with John’s
vulnerability-we are all flawed in different ways, they were no different.

I think it became very apparent to John, consciously and subconsciously that Paul had the talent and drive to lead the band, and John losing his grip on being the self proclaimed leader for 10 years was crushing his fragile ego. So turning to heroin, and Yoko while abandoning his own son, and his band was inevitable.
