We all needed this episode. Nobody knows what us musicians/artists go through except for us! Anyone reading this, please don't give up on your dreams; there's room for all of us! See y'all there!
Failure is a part of being an artist. It is never anything personal and I feel like the sooner we realize that, the better we can be at being mentally stronger and bouncing back even harder than we started 💯
when he said "i was 26 before i could pay my rent with music".. i thought, well i'm only 23... then he says "so if you're only 23..." That literally gave me chills. Good to know I'm not alone 💯
This was a fantastic episode. I know you all say how important these members are but you guys making this content changes peoples lives and breathes life into our spirits. Wednesday has been my favorite day for a while. I got here about a year late wish I could’ve been there at the inception. But I’ve been scrolling through watching every video. Devvon I really appreciate the vulnerability showing your age and giving hope to a lot of new producers out there. This episode was something I really needed. I will continue to be a member of this podcast and hope it stays around so long it outlives me. Stay blessed 🙏🏽
I've been producing for 20 years. Last year after dropping my second album and thought it would do what it didn't do I was ready to quit as well. I knew my weak points was promo and mix and mastering. This channel has not only re arranged my perspective in mixing ,it has also inspired me again .Literal God sent.!!!!!also......REASON GANG
This episode was and always will be needed. Ive had so many placements, and so many losses as a musician, engineer. and a producer. This episode has reactivated a part of me that I thought was gone. Thank you all for this Pod Cast. You've helped so many of us out here that have gave up or is close to it. Thank you . #DawJourney Korg Trinity-with Mpc then Digital Performer yeasr later onto ProTools and now Studio One. Thank you again guys. You've helped me to light that fire again.
I love how this pod has been going strong for 2 straight years and haven't yet missed a single Wednesday 🤯 The only reason I open up my podcast app on my phone. Keep this pod going🔥 Also Pro Tools Gang, Logic Alum🫡
Ngl hearing yall stories and how the journey is helps a lot and for someone who’s been playing for a while and have felt like I’m not doing what I need to do for music this one hit frfr. Found the pod last year and look forward to every episode 🙏🏽
Currently am going through a massive low where I’m stepping back from music a bit and trying to enjoy life more. Stuff happened where I got slammed hard and it just made everything feel sour. Hopefully, after hearing that brief snippet at 12:09 , I get a break. I still love mixing and and am enjoying finishing up current projects but I’m glad it’s okay to hit the brakes for a bit and there’s no shame in it either
DevBezos is crazy 😂😂😂 loved this episode man, very inspiring to hear especially where I’m at musically rn. It’s refreshing to hear this I really needed this Fr. I look forward to this podcast every Wednesday man. You guys give me a place to relate cause I don’t really have people I can talk to about these kind of things like software, or mixing practices, creative processes etc. love it. Keep doing what y’all doing man it’s something special especially for people like me.
Being a 40 y.o who's had minimal success in my 20's then taking a 10 year hiatus because I wasn't passionate for music and NOW having new fire but feeling too old for my genre...... I fucking needed this. I've been watching this channel for years and this shit hits different
This was a dope episode and mad I got to it so late. But definitely on that vibe as LJ. I’ve restarted my music journey and hopeful of what God has brought me through to continue.
Thank you for continuing the podcast and the channel. It fr is something I look forward too. As a member I be checking my subscription page all day on Mondays waiting for the early drop 😂. I mainly do all my work over the internet music wise, so I don’t have many people I can talk to about engineering/ production, so it’s nice to click a video and nerd out and learn new stuff.
Maaaaaaannnnnnnnn! I was not ready at all! I needed this more than I even though. Thank you guys fa real! This page and podcast has been growing my skills, and my mind. I have started and stopped sooo many times, but yall have helped me keep going since this podcast started!
This podcast reminds me of much music means to me. I never met any of these guys and I feel like a brother to them. The magnitude of this podcast is too grand to put into words. Thank yall no 🧢
DEVVONS 36 this year and so i am, im 1 year into my music and i just love making music, i have a goal and thats all im running for this years, ONE GOAL AT A TIME this eps HIT THE FEELS
Devvon, when you talked about 679, you triggered me cuz I’ve been with you since before then. You do not know the effect you’ve had on my life and my career, but no worries, cuz I promise you, some day, I ‘Usseh’ would be on this podcast to tell you the full story myself. Mark this comment
It's always like that...when I think about quitting and just doing something different somebody comes up to me and tells how I inspire them. Just from Instagram post. Its really weird how that happens
as I've stated before been doing this since 98' I've yet got my huge record but I've trained producers who went on to get gold records and grammy nods... I can never get discouraged from failure because I really love music. I'm sure that I'm gonna get one before I leave this earth...
5:50 - Courtney is basically describing Rick Rubin these days. He is credited as 'Produced By' but by all accounts he just meets the band, talks about the intention and vision for the record, then pops into the studio every few weeks to listen to what has been done and give guidance. But the actual work is all done by his engineers. In fact, after Metallica did 'Death Magnetic' with Rubin they basically poached his engineer, Greg Fidelman, to do all of their records since. Some say Rubin is an inspirational guru and a genius, but Slipknot's Corey Taylor was spitting mad that they spent a fortune for this guy to 'produce' their record, only to barely ever see him. Subsequently, they also used Fidleman on his own for a few records.
Yo, I made a comment a while back when the FL studio guy went in on Studio One hating a bit & I deleted the comment after a while since it was a harsh comment (even tho he was clowing my daw). But listening to ya'll now... I'm sorry for what I said (I was going through a bit at the time) and respect to all of ya'll. This was real, this was honest, I recognize myself in this and 4 real it is helping me rn ngl. Everything is a bit weird after covid and the landscape changed when the old guard left the industry, again during and after covid and again with the afrobeat takeover happening. My project is sitting there, I know it will bless people because it blesses me, but to get over the part of the industry, marketing and it maybe not doing what it should kinda stopped me (also a bit of perfectionism). But after this pod I gave myself a deadline, this time next year I will have released and finished everything music wise, marketing wise, website wise, community wise, brand and building different platform wise etc. THANK YOU FOR THE EXTRA PUSH OF MOTIVATION!!! And van Gogh is from where I live rn, I like museums n stuff so that dropped like a bomb as well. Love
When Courtney said “ your job isn’t to create that one sound again your job is to beat yourself” that actually hit me so hard. I almost cried. Cause for the last year a lot of people have been telling me that there’s a certain song that I need to stay in that lane. But I’ve never able to recreate it cause it was such a certain moment in my life. And I needed to hear that so much. I appreciate yall so much. @samayigbe
