First worked with Ken as an assistant at unique recording studios in nyc in 2001 and he instantly knew I lied on my resume
😂😂😂
@@Yeeeeer😂
Bruh. I just went through this dudes discography and am blown away at how many of my favorite songs we was a part of
Somebody pulling up with 28 horns is dedication lmao dude musta needed a u-haul. Talk about a cheat code 😂
Haha right? Bro definitely came with a sprinter van with all that 🤣
Can't believe this is the man that did the Jeremih & 50 Cent 'Down On Me' mix breakdown video from 12 years ago! Only realized when I went through his credits! LEGEND
He has a video on that track from way back where he shared all his mixing on that track.. Great stuff!
I discovered Ken during lockdown. And it was life-changing. Ken is not just a jedi mixer, he's a top top human being too. The Mixing Night Crew know so i won't go into detail here but i can't thank him enough!
Amazing podcast, I really enjoyed this episode. I love how locked in you guys are when it comes to our community. I did realize I didn’t hear not one question about Atmos 🤔 would have loved to get some gems from Ken regarding Atmos. Curious on why he would sell his AWS so that he can afford an Atmos rig. That’s a huge leap, especially for a a mixer producer of his caliber.
Love to see how many important Enginners you guys are bringing up to the podcast it’s awesome to hear the stories they have to say don’t stop!
You guys are amazing . Can’t wait for the album Devv
Wow thank u!
@@HelpMeDevvon of course man 💯 look forward to every Wednesday
Caught on to Ken Long ago.. and have been learning from him since.. He's cool, down to earth, shares his mixing skills, and thinking process.. a great teacher! Seems like a good guy all around! Thanks for sharing this vid!
I’m not an audio nerd, but this was a worthwhile watch. The energy in the room is genuine and fun.
This is at least the 5th time I said this is the best guest yet 😭 you guys keeping raising the bar! Ken was a phenomenal listen
OMG he said he has the lyrics on the wall etc. MANNNNN i had this idea as well, its like putting you back in the zone you created the lyrics in. MAN much respect on actually getting it done!!!! GREAT EXECUTION. oh and thanks dev for bringing this to us.
His credits are mind blowing! From Kendrick’s drum pattern in Blacker the Berry to having me finally watch the video to J Cole’s Crooked Smile which was, I’m lost for words as that’s based on a true story.. to the little but major parts he’s played on records, I give Ken his props!
What video? Link?
@cpujazz I love Ken Lewis interviews he is so down to earth while talking about some of the biggest albums ever he worked on. Thanks for having him.
This was sooooooo dope. Homie is an audio super hero. I never took lol comp serious.. Now I'm Def gonna cop it
Legendary interview 🙏🏿
Congrats on this episode!! 🔥🔥🔥
Kush claraphonic I use it on my master bus all the time never thought about using it on vocals 🤔🤔
Literally as soon as he said he had I plug-in I went to find it and oh my goodness I’m bout to try it 🔊🔊🔊
Best episode I’ve seen so far keep em coming 🫡
Great episode. His credits are insane 🔥
Such a gem of a podcast episode 💎
Ken Lewis is a fucking legend 🔥
Looking through his discography I'm realizing I grew up listening to this man. Actual GOAT 🐐
God has put his hand on yall! He made yall to do exactly what you are doing. Walk in your blessings with full faith & dedication.
Wow thank you so much for these words!
Top 2 episode of all time!!! I'm gonna watch this at least 10 times🤣😅
Ken Mixed One Of My Records In 2017!
WE LIVEEEEE
A legend and most listeners know who truly makes the music sound what it is.
Enjoyed that episode
Cincinnati in the house!!! 🎉
man his Audio School Online videos are classic.
Amazing episode . I love hearing people nerd out about their craft !
Ya'll killed this ! loved this interview, & Ken Lewis is DOPE !
I knew McDSP was going to come up lol I just got the 404 s/o to Jaycen Joshua helping me put weight on my vocals.
Yeah I have a very similar modeled chain to Jaycen. It’s. A mix of Devvon’s and Jaycens.
McDSP has been something I’ve been wanting to try, however I’m so confused on the website.
Also, I think there’s different versions..?¿
I think you need protools for the version he uses. I use Logic.
I’m also very confused on TEEZIO having hardware McDSP units in his studio….
Wanting to know what’s that’s for and if I’ll ever need to go that route if I get into the McDSP. 🤷🏾♀️
lets GOOOOOOOOO!!!!! #LogicGang
A day late n dollar short, heading to Ken's YT channel to subscribe. TY Dev, Wish I had known of this sooner! Great interview
I literally upgraded from producer edition to all plugins fl a few days ago
Brooooo this episode has so much game 😮💨 had to take notes 😂
Got the chance to meet Leslie at FullSail and chop it up for a bit. Super dope guy 🐐 audio engineer
Ken in the mf building!!
@AMMixes!
I heard of the LOL comp, trail checked it and almost copped it. Dave Pensado said it works on basically everything as well. I just couldn't get over the looks of it + I don't like dragons. Will be getting all comp for sure tho! Cause yes I'm having fun making music but the emoji laughing while making it is wild lol 😂
P.s. an upcoming artist who is famous now was in a studio of my friend and I was working with him. He used LOL comp and didn't lose the client BUT the artist wanted to leave at first before everything was dialed in right saying even the screen is laughing at you 😂
yoooooo i swear this is what ive been waiting on
When yall getting a Logic Pro user! Lol I mean we did just get a stem splitter and we got an audio suite copy 🤷♂️ logic been putting in work. Workflow and everything upping :) just saying ! Love what you guys doing ❤ keep going and spreading love and knowledge , shouting out from vegas!
Don’t forget it now has a competitive step sequencer and piano roll to FL, easiest drag and drop sampler instant new virtual instruments, and super easy flexible drum machine designer! I’m not an abelton expert but I can’t imagine it have a more intuitive sampler. Also upped its chord track to compete with composing. I could be improved in this area like the king is Reason is king with chords and sequencer. Only big thing I would like to have is versatile custom routing etc plugin creator like FL’s Patcher
Great pod thank you, had to like and subscribe!
I have listened to crooked smile numerous times, but I just saw the video for the first time and I can’t believe that’s based on a true story. 🙏🏽
Keep seeing you guys on shorts. Keen to watch the backlog!
great stuff guys
i wish yall could insert pics of all the gear he was talking about... great interview tho
wow legendary guest fassure them credits insane
Lolcomp is really funny😂
Good podcast 👏🏽
it'll be nice if yall can get a studio one user knowing that next Wednesday the update will make it officially the best DAW on the planet 💪🏾💪🏾😂
Recovery is very slept on.
😂 nice to be in the building guys haha
Meaning logic HMD member , you got FL, ableton, and Protools :) love that Ken Lewis still in Logic
This episode is absolutely GOATED
One on my top 3 favorite interviews
LJ, you should have asked him Waves vs Plugin Alliance too. He’s a big Plugin Alliance guy too. Man, this episode was unreal… I’m going to have to watch this at least 4 more times.
46:10 dawg said don't like them at all 😭😭😭
Ken Lewis the absolute GOAT 🐐 🔥
Legend, if y’all don’t know the down on me breakdown was one of my first introductions into mixing. 🔥🔥🔥
this is top 5 podcast hands down!!
16:20 the layering probably looked like an edm track 😂😂
Thank you!
So good !
16 kicks, 20 snares, 20 mics | 30 something horns... the nugget here is, you can't possibly get everything from one or two things. Try, experiment, go for it. Don't be lazy. Don't be complacent. Keep searching and carving until that marble looks like the statue that knocks your socks off.
as an engineer sometimes ill freestyle with them to try and make the client feel comfortable by messing up n showing them i dont care so they shouldn't either. plus it just gets the vibes going!
I love this. when I first went to a real studio I was so uncomfortable tracking. I was so used to my bedroom. if the engineer did this, I would’ve loved it
That was mint!
Is Ken’s mixbus chain hardware HG-2 and Vari Mu or plugins?
Does he have an EQ after the Vair Mu because imo to get modern lowend I assume the compressor would pump to much unless you’re boosting after it? What ratio is the vari-Mu?
Great interview. Lots of nuggets
Oh I just remembered the pultec
Best credits and vibe in the game, IMO
Fun got the Kayne drums special
Amazing going through the comments and seeing how many people have absolutely zero clue who he is or all the work he has done
Hear that fellas, he’s a Logic guy mostly 🥳🔥
Classic interview
Did y’all peep how he switched master slave with dad mom. Class act!
I can't decypher Ken, he's out there sharing nuggets while being the guy with the most amazing credits. Kanye AND Taylor? That's another level to work for both sides of a beef LOL (comp) I wonder if he would like mixing outdoors in a quiet place in the Riviera Maya, and then blast it in a Tulum rave
bruh I didn't know Shawn Michaels was so involved in the music industry like that, wow
😂😂😂
Daaam I wish they woulda asked him why he don't like arturia
Me too…
I was looking for this too 😭
LOOOOOOOGIC!
I've always felt (from whenever it was I first found out that he crafted the drum sounds for Girl on Fire and We Are Young) that his contribution to both those records was always downplayed. But the drums on both of those records are arguably the most iconic parts of those songs (aside from the vocals of course).
Hey, this guy is pretty friggin cool!
Studio one gang
This is a hall of fame episode. Along with Ben Thomas, Leslie Brathwaite, Wavy Wayne, Teezio and Bainz…. Y’all let me know if I’m missing someone
Y’all gotta get Greg Wells now
The lesson here guys is … TRY… NEW… THINGS!!
A true genius behind the Jeen-Yuhs
56:32 facts mcdsp
why the hell wouldn't you dig into the Arturia beef???
BLUE DISK GANG 💎💎💎
Super interesting episode. Thanks!
🏆🏆🏆
Bro honestly this man is insane. His plugins are freaking insane. Both I can say are better than both JJ plugins I really believe. I’m sorry
very good
58:41 same
what I would like to see is you three mixing one song 3 hours what you saying?
ABLETON AFICIONADO HERE REPRESENTING
why did courtney start cripping at 44:31😭😭😭iykyk
Imagine he put all that unrelease into a pack 😭 lord
timestamps???
Hey Devon how do I get $20 off in thr store I emailed you I'm a member
This one was a gem!
