Dear mr. Marc I am engineering student currently in my 3rd year of mechanical engineering. Sir I aspire to become an F1 engineer oneday.it would be really great full if you could give some advise on it. I am also a participant of formula Student.
Marc, I've been following your channel for a few months now, and I've enjoyed your content. Seeing as you've done a Lewis themed video, I have a Lewis based question. Recently, Lewis has implied that F1 is not diverse enough. That people from racial minority groups...whatever that means, are somehow hamstrung by their race and prevented from getting jobs in F1. So to my question. Did you, at any point during your F1 career, see a brilliant driver/engineer/aero/tea lady prevented from working in F1 due to racism or their ethnic origin? A second question, if I may. Is F1 a meritocracy?
its not an implication though, its reality. f1 isnt very diverse. from your wording, you make it seem like lewis has said that people of colour have been intentionally prevented from getting a job by some racist person, which lewis hasnt said at all. his commisions aim is to "research partnership, dedicated to exploring how motor sport can be used as a vehicle to engage more young people from black backgrounds with science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or Stem subjects with a view to employ them in the sport."
No one's saying that anyone's actively prevented from getting a job in F1 and yes it is, and should be, a meritocracy. The point is that the pool of talent that F1 teams can select the best people from is not very diverse at all, so it's no wonder the paddock is full of the people it is. What needs to change to really fulfil F1's goal of having the very best people throughout the sport, is to cast the net as wide as possible. That means finding out why people from certain colour/gender/ethnic/sexuality groups simply aren't finding their way into the sport at the moment.
Very good questions. Firstly, F1 may think it's a meritocracy but like Marc said when the 'net is cast wider' I think THEN it will truly become a meritocracy which will raise F1's profile around the world. I asked my pupils if they knew what #F1 or Fomula 1 was. Only 2 out of 28 knew. Secondly, and Marc you may have missed that part of the question and you can answer by a simple yes or no with no expansion on your answer, did you see any racism looking back and knowing what you know now?
@@F1Elvis thank you for your response much appreciated as you could have easily avoided it. Rascism is an uncomfortable subject and in order to make things change, for the better, for all, these conversations need to happen.
No, I didn't, but i'm not aware of anyone suggesting that F1 has any discriminatory policies?
@@F1Elvis thank you for your response much appreciated as you could have easily avoided it. Rascism is an uncomfortable subject and in order to make things change, for the better, for all, these conversations need to happen. Lewis has been incredibly brave in speaking out about his experiences and I hope he continues and gets support. 👏🏽
