I get it. We've all had to endure some BS training or tasking after a commanding officer, NCO, or supervisor told us "it was mandatory" or it was to "complete the mission." We've all had to roll up out sleeves and do something we didn't find comfortable. I feel like this is different. With the politicization of the Covid 19 Vaccine, the treatment to those abstaining it would be borderline abuse. here we have (in my opinion) a clear case of backlash directly from refusing the vaccine, even after the mandate was lifted. If you disagree I'd love to hear your viewpoint

And this is just a big one that made it to the news, sadly there’s similar occurrences of unfair leadership decisions where lower enlisted gets shafted because of rank difference that gets swept under the rug because it tends to be on a “within command” scale. We’re lucky to hear about this example because the officer made such a big deal about it to get her sent to the brig.
I don’t believe joining itself is a bad thing, but with how toxic leadership tends to be (and don’t believe the “one team, one fight” within whatever branch, it’s more like a pack mentality between others, at least in my command) now isn’t a good time to join unless something changes on the upper side, which is detrimental considering Russia and China being our main threats and low recruitment/retention hurting manning.

That was my thought exactly when I hit my 4th year of service in 2001. Before then, I scored “true blue” for expert infantryman badge, had 4 AAMs… and was slotted to go to PLDC that November and take my promotion afterwards
We were on division ready brigade 1 and 9 for the past 9 months and weee finally getting off it it one Friday in late September. The next day, we were heading out to spend the next 2 weeks as the OPFOR for SFQC Robin Sage. It’s basically a 2 week camping trip
So, a few of us went to Sparkey’s… this strip joint on Bragg Boulevard. Long story short, the dude driving who was a E-5 and new to the division… he got pulled over for hanging a headlight burned out
They took him to the station to breathalyze him and all of that. He was sober, zero percent registered. We didn’t know that at the time, as we were taking a taxi back to the bricks. We figured he must have had some drinks and got a DUI
We did exactly what we were told to do by our piece of shit 1SG and CO. We were technically still on DRB-1 until noon the next day, which was Friday. We were to do just a battalion run, then released the rest of the day to get ready for Robin Sage the next day
We told the 1SG what had happened… and he… blew the fuck up, and mostly on ME, who was 23 years old at the time. The other 2 guys were 20, and the driver was 24
I was the only one out of the group who got demoted. I was busted from being a team leader E-4P to a E-3. I was so fucking PISSED… but really let down more than anything
The fact that we did exactly what we were told to do if ever in a jam, and then to see it was a lie… a lie used to brainwash us just to make things easier on the 1SG so he could put the fucking to us.

That is very solid advice. Unfortunately, I think the ones who will stick their necks out have been hunted out of existence through the day to day bullshit until either they saying "Fuck it, I'm done" and getting out, or by getting forced out.
We used to say "Shit floats to the top" and I think that military proverb is spot on. You don't really see an officer make it past O2 or O3 if he is competent and not a "Yes-man". As for enlisted, the VAST majority get burnt out before their 4 year contract is up. Guys who make it past E5 and then decide to stick around for 20 are a VERY rare breed if they are truly good at what they do. Most of them become Officer pets and fuck with their subordinates because a lot of them aren't really intelligent and so they know the power of rank is all they have in life.
I say this all the time, but many Senior Enlisted are like Samuel L Jackson in Django. They'll never be "Masta", but they have a little authority over the rest of the slaves and so that tiny bit of power goes strait to their high and tights

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lance Corporal Arnett for an interview before she was incarcerated. It's quite an unfortunate that all the retaliatory actions were taken against her - she was an exemplary example of a Marine. She was my assistant soccer coach during one of numerous seasons she volunteered as a coach and mentor. Keep in mind, while volunteering as a Youth Sports Coach, individuals are often required to interact, lead and mentor children of Senior Enlisted and Commissioned Officers. The parents, of some of these children, were the ones seeking to punish LCpl Arnett.
One punishment they were able to levy on her: they contacted the Youth Sports Program director and informed them that [she] was not allowed to Coach any team(s) or individuals due to legal actions. Imagine being someone so determined and invested in the youth mentorship program(s) that anywhere you went, you were immediately recognized by the children of these senior service members. Imagine them taking all of that away. I remember during our interview she choked up and broke down a little while describing this.
Thanks for covering this, AC. I personally apologized to Kat for not being able to provide a strong enough platform for her story to be heard but I'm glad it's out there. Thanks to you, NickyMGTV, ShaneOfficial, TerminalCWO, and everyone at the Pipe Hitter Foundation. I sincerely hope, but highly doubt, that justice will be served. She deserves nothing less.

Yep. I've had officers try to pull that, "You _will_ respect me," instead of paying attention to the fact it is, "you will respect my _rank,"_ and then conducting themselves responsibly.
I was very lucky in that while I've had a really mixed bag of Captains, and about half the Majors were just crap, about the same for Colonels, I was always able to not only get along with but respect the Generals whom I came in direct contact with, and even those Generals I only heard about through requests I made through the Chain. Sometimes, those Generals did things because of policy set by higher that I was eventually able to overturn; a couple of Generals made my list of people I respect by picking up and doing the right thing, damn the consequence.
But God, I acknowledge that I was a *hard* soldier to have under the responsibilities of direct Officer authority!
Post Commanding General calling my Captain in to explain very loudly that he is to, "Get your house in order, because your PFC is [miss-] leading a Master Gunnery Sergeant into behavior and ways of thinking that the Corps no longer condones." Yes, I was Army, and yes, it was a Marine General yelling at my CO so loudly people could hear it outside the building--I heard about it from _drivers_ waiting outside!
My SFCs and 1SGs hated, respected, and loved me. Like abusive marriages, being in a Chain of Command with me.

That's when Clinton took office, stress cards at boot camp, almost brought up on "hazing" charges when a PFC told a Cpl he wasn't going to do something I had ordered, so I made him do push ups and side straddle hops while the Cpl and other PFC did the job. Made Sgt in 3 years, SSgt in 6, and I was field radio, not a quick promotion field (meritorious promotions, time in rank to SSgt). This rings so close to home. Back in the 2000's I was stationed in Okinawa, there was an Okinawa Japan liberty card policy not letting lower enlisted off-base after midnight (Cinderella liberty if you will) when you had your red card and forced to come back on base by midnight; after 3 months of being on island you were to be given your gold card as long as you had no violations and no other disciplinary issues. My unit said, screw the policy and those in charge, we're going to be more restrictive and never allow anyone their gold card. After I was there a year and a half without issues, the commanding general of 3rd Marine Division said: hey people in charge of this unit not following my standing orders, get your sh*t together and issue the deserving marines their gold cards like everyone else or you'll be back to being a butter-bar... They finally gave in kicking and screaming that they couldn't just punish our unit because they felt like it anymore. Boy were they not happy we were allowed the same freedoms as every other unit around and they let us know it.

A dropped charge is not the same as something being found unconstitutional or having been against the law.
When the court said that the blanket denial is unconstitutional, then everything that came from that is no longer valid. Essentially, as you explained, "Fruit from the Poisonous Tree". Something being against the law would like an officer searching your home without a warrant and having no justification for a warrantless search or exigent circumstances. However, she was charged with forgery, when she decided to say no and I'm not going anywhere, they charged her with missing movement and failure to obey a lawful order (the UCMJ article is does state direct order as some might think). Because they didn't have enough to charge her for the forgery, because of the evidence, they dropped the forgery charge. The fruit of the poisonous tree does not apply. As the other charges were made within the scope of the law, and the previous charge wasn't considered unconstitutional. Meaning, that does NOT stop or drop any other charges, just means that they believe they have enough evidence to continue.
With that, this sounds kind of like another story. Navy Seal Chief Petty Officer Eddie Gallagher. Did they need to put her in the brig? No. Does Navy regulations allow it? Yes. Shit, had she been on a ship, they could've put her on a bread and water diet. With all that, I am excited to hear about an actual troop standing up for orders that are wrong and/or immoral.

    • @isaachousley325
      @isaachousley325 Рік тому +25

The problem there is that it's an NJP, there is no such thing as not guilty at an NJP/ART 15 in practice. If the command elects to go the NJP route, they have already decided on your guilt; if you know/believe you're innocent, you have to exercise your right to a court martial.

I went for a "speeding" ticket. Cop/prosecution showed up with ZERO evidence. Not even the incident report. Gives total hearsay.
I point out state law where "self-test" is not considered calibration
I provided VIDEO EVIDENCE proving the cop was lying out his ass.
Judge said, well I just have to think you're guilty. So you're guilty.

Toxic leadership has progressively gotten worse over the past roughly 23 years in the Army, Marine Corps and Navy.
The Air Force seems to been affected less than the other three but hasn’t been completely immune from it.
I’ve served in both the Army and USMC since 9/11, but have worked with all in a joint environment. The military needs to change their paradigm and re-educate leaders on their responsibilities and legal authority.

I PCSed from MCAS Iwakuni in 2020, and from my experience this event is a pretty fair representation of the overall mood of the air station while I was there.
Not pointing any fingers at anyone specifically but it always blew me away at how overly-hostile leadership was there to both military and civilian personnel alike. Perhaps the answers lay in something I am not aware of like overall command mission of the station but it never failed to amaze me how much more chill Okinawa and CONUS Marine bases were compared to ‘Kuni. That’s just my two cents from what I saw.
