    I have the 12" version. The dust collection really sucks, so I bought the dust chute from Shop Nation and, while not perfect, the dust collection is greatly improved. I put the saw on a cart that slides into the center section of my 8' miter station. I can cut lengths up to 4' while in the slot and longer by pulling the cart out and maneuvering it on my shop floor. I really like this saw and like you got a great deal on it. Good luck!

    Another thing I did, aside from a dust hood, is put my saw kind of near the garage door so you can shoot a long board out into the driveway if you need to. Just setup a roller stand. I also built my station on top of a metal lateral file cabinet. Perfect height drawers for rattle cans and jugs of solvent. I keep my glue in there too.

    Great find Sam! I have the 12" and love it. Get the dust shoot from shop nation and it will help with dust. I look forward to the miter station build

    Just used mine yesterday for the first time. Grabbed mine 2-3 weeks ago at $219. I was also always eyeballing these and wasn't sure if I needed/wanted the 10 or 12 but at that price I didn't hesitate. Actually had to order mine at a store $300 miles away which was 10 minutes from my dad's so I had him pick it up then went to pay a visit with my dad. Was a perfect purchase scenario. Really happy with it. I'd say it's significantly better then any other 10" available around this price. Almost no sliding 10s at that price actually.

    I have had the 12" version of this saw for a year or 2 and have really enjoyed it. It works well and if you are careful the blade deflection is a minimal concern. I did recently get the improved dust shoot from Shop Nation and have absolutely loved it! It massively improves the dust collection on the miter saw.

  • @BenNawrath
    @BenNawrath 3 місяці тому +15

    If you’re going to build a stationary thing for it anyway, build a hood for it. Forget trying to collect dust at the blade… build a hood and hook a dust collector to it. You’ll have to blow it out here and there, but nothing will get in the room.

    • @PMichaels
      @PMichaels 3 місяці тому +2

      I totally agree. I think people spend way too much time and energy trying to get the dust at the blade and they seem eternally frustrated. A few years ago I built a simple shroud out of plywood and hooked up my 4” HF dust collector to it. There is hardly any dust that doesn’t get sucked up by that.

    • @BenNawrath
      @BenNawrath 3 місяці тому +1

      @@PMichaels Exactly. I had a smaller 650cfm DC and recently upgraded to the larger HF unit. You can't even smell the wood you're cutting. My shroud has a flat bottom (built it on top of a filing cabinet that I store my glue and paint in), so a fair amount of dust collects in the corners. But a couple little squirts of compressed air while the DC is running and it's all good. Still, nothing is airborne, and THAT is more important than a little mess.

    Hello, I also have this saw and I love it. I use for DIY tasks around the house. Was excellent in installing a new cedar fence and installing new baseboards in my home. I’m also a weekend woodworker and use the saw for rough cutting. For precision cuts I go to the table saw. For dust collection I highly recommend connecting a shop vac. Without a shop vac, dust collection is horrible.
    Happy you got a great price and I hope you enjoy the saw.

    I just built my permanent miter station and I love it. It was a ton of time and work. If I was you I would either make the quick version as quick as possible or take the time and make something really nice. I’ve done so much extra work putting a lot of time into doing something kind of what I want. Glad you got a good deal!

    Great Purchase! I own the 12”. It’s great for exactly what you said you would use it for. All precision cuts are on my table saw. I have mine on the Ridgid modular stand. It folds up and rolls into the corner and comes out when I need it.
    I’ve cut hard, soft and ply without an issue. I grabbed a Diablo Combo Blade before making my first cut.

    Thanks Sam! I’ve got the same Dewalt 12” saw and I’ve been looking at the Bosch and or Ridgid for the same reason.. I could gain back nearly a foot of space from my miter station…
    I went on HD website and checked out the 10”… it’s not advertised at the $219 but when I put it in the cart it dropped it to that price… kinda starred at it for a couple minutes and then pulled the trigger!

    Had my eye on that style of saw for years so I’m happy to watch you use it first! As someone who built a “quick and dirty” miter saw station with plans to upgrade it later and never did, I would say meet yourself half way. Build a nice cabinet for under the saw or to one side, then do the 2x4 and OSB method to the other.

  • @gregmize01

    I built a mobile miter saw "station" w/foldable wings and have NEVER regretted it. Mobile and space saving for a shop like yours could be a huge benefit. You have enough bench top surface already, a fixed station would just rob floor real estate in there.

  • @SawdustmakerLori
    @SawdustmakerLori 2 місяці тому +1

    Just checked and it's on sale for $219.00 at the Home Depot I shop with 7 in stock. Can't believe the price! You asked for opinions about the miter station build. You might consider building a mobile station with the folding wings. There are some good plans on UA-cam channels for these. Then you could move it around if needed. Glad you got such a great deal and now have a miter saw for your shop. It will come in handy for sure!

    Sam, I can’t thank you enough. I wanted one of these saws for years. My rigid slider is six years old. After watching your video, I looked it up on the app and saw there was one in a city about 30 minutes away. So I bought it online and rushed out there as soon as they pulled it. When I got there I saw they had a second one so I bought it too. I have always dreamed of having a double miter saw station and now I can. Two for the price of one at $219 each. There is literally only four of these in the entire Dallas/ Fort Worth area. What a find. Thanks again. 😊

      I got one last month at HD near Joshua, TX, near the Miller plant. It's about a half hour drive for me. Then sold my Dewalt non-slider for $100, so only cost me $119 roughly. I immediately put a better blade on it. The dust collection is about the same as my previous saw. I had Shop Nation DC on the dewalt, but I wasn't too impressed with it honestly. I'm just going to build a shroud for the Rigid and use the original dust chute, maybe just adding a larger flap made of duct tape.

    Hi, Sam - I was having a bad day at work. When I was done, I went to UA-cam looking for a pick-me-up video. I saw this video come up on my feed and thank god it did… I have been looking for new miter saw for a while and I really liked this one. I wanted a sliding miter saw that comes forward as I don’t have room in my shop for one that has to slide back. Plus I already have a bunch of 10” blades so I didn’t want to upgrade to a 12” saw. I never pulled the trigger on this and now I’m glad I didn’t, because I just picked one up for $219 from a (sort of) local Home Depot! THANK YOU, SIR! It was the last one in stock anywhere close to me. The closest HDs don’t have it but this one did. I am so excited to get this saw home and to start using it. You have also earned a new subscriber. I can’t wait to check out the rest of your content. Cheers!

    With the lowerer price point, it's a heck of a deal. bought mine over a year ago. It's fantastic. I have increased the dust pickup and put a Rockler flex hose on it to it's own auto start vacuum. for additional dust capture. A nice dust shroud is good to keep the dust from flying around. Mines made from a cardboard box. I've mounted a zero clearance back fence and FastCap's zero clearance tape as well. FYI the DeWalt Crown molding jigs work on this saw as well. Want to pick up the shroud from ShopNation next.

    I have the same saw and love it. Works really well. I have a lot of hand tools, so I bought two Husky tool chests and built a platform between them for my saw. The saw sits level between the two tool chests, so the tool chest tops serve as in-feed and out-feed tables.
    Shop Nation (which you can find here on UA-cam) makes a very nice dust boot for these saws. I have this dust boot connected to a shop vac stored under the saw. Both are connected to a switch that automatically turns on the shop vac when the saw starts. With this set up, my miter saw makes less dust than just about anything else in my shop.

    Sam, I think its a great decision to get a saw that operates in the smaller footprint. I have a Dewalt like the one your returning to its owner and it is a monster in a small shop. yard tools and such should go out of the shop and into a small shed...for sure...those things can get weathered and the real estate you gain in your shop is worth it. my miter saw is off center a little so when I do make longer cuts than 6', I can flip the piece over and get that cut. I can even go out my garage door if I have to

      @brucewelty7684 2 місяці тому

      and where do you have to haul it for the warranty?

    • @genesishep
      @genesishep 2 місяці тому

      @@brucewelty7684 It has to be shipped to the nearest service center to you, unless you are near a service center and are able to drop it somehow. They send you a FedEx shipping label and give a 14-day turnaround in most cases. Let's be realistic, you're not paying top dollar for the Rolls Royce of power tools here so don't expect to be pampered like royalty. Festool only repairs tools for 3yrs max but they turnaround faster. The fact that Rigid offers a no cost lifetime service warranty on anything is more than you're going to get from most power tool manufacturers. If you are Average Joe, the homeowner who uses the tool rarely? Well shipping it away may not be an issue.
      If you are a professional contractor who needs immediate/constant access to your tools? You better have an extra kicking around...if you have done any decent kind of planning as a pro, you either have a spare or a combination of tools that will get the job done while its down. Right? If not? Well, you'll have to remedy that by purchasing one after you ship the other out to be repaired either way. Right? Either situation results in having to own a spare. It's your choice what brand of spare you get but I personally? I would choose another one with a lifetime warranty. What would you choose? I guess the other question is are what are you expecting? What are other brands doing above and beyond? It won't fit everyone. I guess your best bet would be extended warranty purchase and cheap harbor freight tools where you can do a walk in exchange the same day if time is the most important thing to you. But, that shows up with Harbor Freight tools. That matter? No but we live in a pretty shallow society where people will judge your ability based on how expensive your setup is... They won't consider yourself to be smart for saving money.

    Sure can't beat that price, wow, a deal for sure. I use to have a 12 ft miter saw stand, homemade out of 2X4's. Like 4 ft to the left and 8 ft to the right. I thought it would be nice to have the room to cut so much stuff. But like you said, it is rare for me to cut much over 6FT. Most of what I cut is under 4 ft even. You'd think it would be good for storage, but even after putting in drawers, it just was not a good use of space. Now I have a 6FT bench, only left side cutting, 4ft cut on the left, and the wing pulls out to 8 ft if I ever need it. Can't remember the last time I needed it. Now I use the previous wasted space for things on wheels, drum sander, planer, drill press. For me, built in is not always good. You get stuck with the set up as well. I also store so many systainers under the new bench. One thing with the previous 12 ft bench, I built in my K5 kreg jig, about the middle of the 8 ft side, so was nice to have all that support for the K5. But I rarely do pocket holes anymore, so don't miss it much. K5 is now on a piece of ply, portable, if I need it. As for Miter saws, LOVE my Kapex. Yes it is pricey, but I do not regret buying it one bit. SO incredibly accurate. Plus the clamps are amazing, I use them every time, rarely did with my old Kobalt miter saw. So many great features. Only my opinions :)

    I have this saw. Couldn't pass on it at like $250 or whatever I paid. Deflection is bad if you aren't careful and it has terrible dust collection as has been well documented, but it does well enough for the money.

    Well this just cost me $236 I wasn't planning on spending. I have the DWS779 and my only complaint is the amount of space it takes up so i have to at least give this one a shot at that price! Thanks for the heads up!

    have been thinking about building one of those rolling miter saw carts with flip out wings. currently my old 12 inch slider is on one of those collapsible delta stands, it just takes up soo much room and is way to hard to move around.

    Have the delta 10” of this saw. Also got the shop nation dust collection kit. Both work great. I’m a bit disappointed with the shadow line. Mine is not as crisp or clear as you see in videos and photos. I’ve tried adjusting the light, but I can’t seem to get it working right. Otherwise. Happy with the saw.

    I still have yet to see anything match the quality, precision built Milwaukee 6955 12" sliding double bevel compound miter saw. Absolute tightest build for dead set accurate cuts, hands down the best dust collection on the market. Makes lockable miter adjustments to .1 degree. I agree the price is high, but even my broke ass was able to save up to buy one. Yes, the miter station I built is deep, but I just flanked both sides with shelf top cabinets and it left me with a 12" work surface. Best thing in the shop. I wish you could post pictures in the comments.

    I don’t think you should be centered… I think you should be slightly off to the right… Leave yourself room to cut off a couple of feet to the right but the more room to the left the better just in case you need to cut longer cuts!

    Just my two cents here which, of course, are worth only two cents and possibly less but it's never a good idea to buy a tool based on price. I think in the long run you are going to regret not have a 12 inch saw. I used a 10 inch for years, trimmed entire houses with a 10 inch Ryobi (bought in about 1989 if memory serves) but when I got a 12 inch Makita slider it was a life changer.

      @@jamesburton6661 Ridgid and delta had a deal in place where some of their benchtop tools like sanders, planers, jointers, miter saws, tablesaws etc would be made by delta in phases (same factory, same materials, etc.) when it got bought out by chang ind from stanley bd. TTI does not own ridgid outright like ryobi and milwaukee.
