EASY SOFRITO RECIPE: Super easy recipe for making a staple ingredient in Puerto Rican cuisine!

  • Sofrito is used in much of Puerto Rican and other Latin American countries' cuisine. It's a must make and have in your fridge. You can store it in your refrigerator for up to two weeks. Many just make a huge batch and freeze the extra for storage. Frozen sofrito can last for months.
    Traditional sofrito (at least in my household... but, your kitchen your rules!) has culantro (or recao) and ajices dulces and both are hard to find but you can still make a very delicious sofrito with these 5 very common produce items you can find in any grocery store: red and green bell peppers, onion, garlic, and cilantro. Whip it up in the blender until pesto consistency.
    I like to strain the green juice from the sofrito and set it aside to make Mojo which is used to marinate meats and season your stews, soups, and most anything you want to give extra savory flavor. Just add the juice of one lemon, one lime, 1/4 cup of vinegar, and oregano (to your liking) and viola... Mojo!
    I hope you take full advantage of the versatility in cooking with sofrito!

    I am 1/2 Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 and 1/2 Cuban 🇨🇺. There is a lot of different dishes I do not know how to cook, because as I was growing up my mother was very sick with breast cancer and she couldn't teach me. Then she became mentally ill. I always look for recipes in UA-cam, Food Network, family members, friends and other people. I am very glad you came on UA-cam and teaching us how to cook. I cook from my mother and she is very amazed on the taste. I tell my mom haha your funny. Rebecca I appreciate you.

    Thank you for this recipe. I'm going to definitely try this. though I would like to know what size is your blender, because I do not have one. I have a shake ninja which I doubt that's going to fit into there. Also, I would like To know if you freeze your sofrito what type of container do you put it in? Where it will not blow up in the freezer. Loving your recipe. Letting you know I subscribed. Thanks in advance. 😁 Oh One last thing, How do you know that the sofrito came out good? Do you know by the smell of the sofrito or do you taste it?

      I put my sofrito in silicone ice cube trays, once frozen- I pop them all into a freezer bag and from there I can just grab two or three cubes easy for meals. I do use olive oil in my recipe cause it seems to stay fresher and nooo freezer burn and they don’t stick together! 😉

    Tienes mucho de indígena! Si eres netamente Puertorriqueña puede ser Taína. El sofrito puertorriqueño es distinto totalmente al dominicano. Nada que ver. We at home learned from our grandmothers who learned from our great grand mothers. We only use one pimiento verde . Not two. Nothing like Original sofrito Puertrriqueño!

    • @evelynmarius9947
      @evelynmarius9947 4 місяці тому

      @dannusnk1578 There is no Dominican Sofrito!!! Don’t get fooled honey!!!! Dominicans learned to make sofrito from living in Puerto Rico, you tubers, from being married to a Puerto Rican , etc. I taught my Dominican friend how to make Puerto Rican arroz con gandules and sofrito and her exact words to me was” we don’t cook like this” I am tired of people from different countries trying to claim our sofrito!! They wouldn’t like it if we Puerto Ricans start to claim their national dishes! They would be pissed and would be cursing us out! But it’s ok for Dominicans, Cubans, Trinidadians, Haitians, and a few others to claim our Puerto Rican sofrito! They should be ashamed of themselves!! If you google Puerto Rico’s national food you will see that Arroz con Gandules and our Sofrito is our national dish.
