I hate watching recipe videos while cooking it's a pride thing, but when I tell you it was a pleasure to cook with you and your mom I felt your vibes in my kitchen. You made me laugh. 😁 hope my mom likes it as much as I liked making this for a first time
My Puerto Rican mother in law taught me to make Arroz con Gandules. (I'm a gringa). The whole family prefers mine to all others!!!! Sofrito is the key.
Rebeca saludos Nena, first time I watch your video, I'm Cuban married to a Puerto Rican lady and I'm familiar with the cuisine ( she passed years ago, que en paz descanse) I grew up in New York City, and I miss the alcapurrias and the piononos, your a delight to watch you cook eres bien comica y simpatica, from now on I will look for recepes, keep up the good work .!!!❤💙
God bless you all, I miss cooking with my mom. I know you treasure every moment with her. I would give anything to cook with my mom again. I know that food Is delicious 😋 and that kitchen smell amazing🤷🏾♀️😂🥰🙏🏾❤️
Ugh this recipe is reminding me of one of my favorite restaurants pirata (Caribbean cuisine) Sancocho never tried it but this make me happy to see the passion of food and a heart warming meal I love learning havebtknmakenfoodmil
Oh wow, I'm here in Chicago too, and how did I not see your videos? I love it. I also have the Puerto Rican Cookery, and I use it like a Bible. I am making the Sancocho today and using your recipe of course. I love it when you mentioned (on another video) the Armitage produce, awesome that you are also Chicago born and raised. Will be going through all your videos.
Thank you for this video, and the time you took to show, and you are so right, in Puerto Rican families like ours we do not run to buy measuring cups or spoons or any of that, the ONLY thing we do measure is the rice, because the rice is sacred to us, is the base of every dish we cook so it has to be perfect, other than that, we have down packed the quantity we will be using on condiments, we do not measure and is true. I hope people knew how hard it is for us to show how to cook using measurements!. stop, record, stop record, because we forget.
Hi Rebeca, I’m new to your channel and I Loove❤ your videos. I don’t eat pork and rarely eat red meat either. I’m gluten free and eat a lot of organic foods as well. I’m glad I found your channel because I’m also from P.Rico. I was never taught how to do many foods but I looove sancocho. Thanks to you I can finally try to make it. 😉🇵🇷♥️🙏. I loove your family, God bless you all. ♥️🙏♥️🙏
So true I just made a huge batch of Sofrito. I have enough to last me for a couple of months. I just made a stew with chicken and most of the vegetables that you’re using although I added yucca and sweet plantains. So I guess it was kind of like a Sancocho just without the sausage. But the next one I make I’m gonna make it with the turkey sausage. I did use one leg of a smoked turkey which Kpop a great flavor.
new sub here...looks delicious cant wait to make it! i mean this as a compliment you remind me of Jlo! lol love your energy im shocked you dont have more followers!
Hey Brittany! I had surgery a few weeks ago when you posted this comment so apologies for the late response. I love when ppl say that about me and JLo!!! Total compliment. I just started posted regularly 6 months ago so I’m grateful for the new followers. I went from 100 to 2,500 in that time which is crazy to me! Ha. Thanks for the love and support. ❤️
When i do sancocho i put ribs .pork . chicken.and Beefcubes anyway put everything in the sancocho that's the traditional way Puerto Rican way i from my father and mother may they rest in peace 🙏🙏
HAVE BEEN IN VIETNAM FOR 3 YEARS ALL THESE INGREDIENTS ARE READILY AVAILABLE ONLY FORGOTTEN MAY A COUPLE THINGS, AFTER WATCHING YOUR VIDEO, I HAS ALL COME BACK TO ME! I'D THE CHAYOTE AND MALANGA
Please be careful using aluminum to cooking. It’s not the healthiest material to use a high heat. Cast-iron or stainless steal would be a better option

Looks good do you ever make it with bone in chicken? I need to try
Marilyn Asqui Yes! Soooo good.
Fui para la tienda a comprar calabaza and the sign also said Butternut Squash. Es lo mismo? Gracias!
No es lo mismo pero se puede usar como esta en la misma familia en sabor y textura. Buen provecho
@@RebecaNievesHuffman So, there were different types of pumpkin. Is there a specific type I need to buy?
Are you able still able practice spanish with your mom it’s hard growing up in states

En mi casa los verduras son "Viandas"...
Can you do an arroz con dulce video 🙏💁♀️🍚
Thanks for the idea! I’ll work on that.

Eddy don’t be scared! It’s easier than you think.
@@RebecaNievesHuffman omg you replied!!! Aaaahhhh!!!
now that was good👍
You're gorgeous 🥰🇵🇷
If you don't eat meat can you add bacalo instead I can't find a video on that
If you didn't soak them in hot water... you can run the hot water and peel them under the running water!!! Voila!
Gotta try that next time! Thanks for the pro tip.
Don't you know you're not supposed to cook with extra virgin olive oil at high temperatures it becomes like poisonous grape seed oil is the best
Another hack! Put the guineo/platano in the microwave for 20 seconds.
Family, please do your research. Don’t use. Aluminum pots is very unhealthy. Thanks for sharing.🙏🏽
ooops, did I say grandma. I meant your mom! 😬
