Russian heater with German console in our Land Rover Defender (are they built for rough weather?)

- We are installing a Russian heater in a German console in our Land Rover Defender. The heater manufactured in Russia is from Autoterm Planar and the console is from Nakatanenga. We are wondering if these items are really built for rough weather and tough terrain. We hope they will endure the constant shaking while off-road and will function properly when temperature are very low.
The installation is almost completed and we will soon be able to move on to the next step of the rebuild of our Land Rover Defender 110.
If you have any experience with these products, comment below :)

I like the title!
Missing british 4x4 in Switzerland :)
Without telling me that everything is just perfect, what do you really think about the loud noice of a heater built inside of your Defender? Pls
We haven't used it while sleeping, only in the evening and morning. Sound level isn't that bad imo, especially for the luxury of being able to heat up the cabin.
Really appreciate these videos. Under the cubby seems the best place but also seems the most difficult and complicated!! Very helpful to see your process. Thanks
Thanks for the message! :)
I did install this Planar on my wife's 110 TD5.
Only tested it once at home during a cold night, no issues whatsoever!
The only problem I got was to bleed it the first time as I did put the supply pipe too deep in the fuel tank and it came back above level, sucking only air 😂
An idea, which I did, is to buy a Bosch connector for the fuel pump and build yourself an external cable with a switch, in case you need to bleed the system again while on the road. Better than waiting for the 5 minutes init phase to complete, if it can't bleed on its own for any reason!
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this experience :)
It looks like an operation with all the tools, at least it will keep you warm in the winter, nice job. Greetings from the Netherlands
Looking forward testing it with the new setup :)
We love watching you two work 😊
Haha 😄 and with the magic of video making hours of work and brainstorming become 10min of easy & fun work 😜
@@offtrackfamily I don’t know any woman who would lay on the freezing cold and hand tools to her husband we know he appreciates your help . ( he better)😊
Thanks for the subtitles
🙂
Hello!
Love the work that you are doing on the defender. Would there be a possibility of water entering the defender when and if you do any water crossing (driving in the water)?
We sealed the plate under the console with the same kind of neoprene tape that was used originally. In any case the Defender isn't waterproof so water would be coming in from everywhere if we had to stop while driving through water.
@@offtrackfamily too true, the doors don’t seal well, the Defender needs to be stripped down and redone specifically for water challenges. It’s a case of ride through once non stop and let out the water that comes in, if you stop you ‘dead in the water’. This customisation is a lot of work but will be great once complete.
I am trying to decide if it is feasible to use lithium batteries, a large inverter, B2B charger and solar panels to provide enough power for a simple electric heater. This set up could also be used to power an induction hob.
There are some small eletric heater available. Induction is what we are planning to go for too 👍
Really enjoy these videos, you and your husband make a great team :) Team work makes the dream work as the saying goes!
😄🙂
you should suspend the fuel pump with zip ties instead of hard mounting it, that way you dont feel the fuel pump ticking all night long
Good to know in case this is something we can't stand when using at night
How do you work in a white jacket and stay clean? That is a super power. 🙂
💪😅
it is always a pleasure to see your videos especially the technical ones, I have seen (few actually) that put the heater tube inside the engine compartment to pre-heat it, which works really or is it just a suggestion? I look forward to seeing you finish the work with the new configuration !!!!
Thanks a lot! We will install later on the webasto thermo top to pre-heat the engine :)
So sory for this but fuel pump and exsost you should put on lil ruber dumpers or you will hear it all ower the chasis.
Cheers. 🍷&🍺
Thanks for the advice :)
@@offtrackfamily any time. 😉
Great vid , but not a puffer jacket for crawling under a Landrover 😜😜😜😜😜
Thanks! Only allowed with very old puffer because obviously white is the best colour to work with 😆
@@offtrackfamily :-) "Eventually all your clothes will turn into work clothes" - Greame Bell, overlanding family, a2a expedition. ;-)
You look fed up !! You’ll get there :-)
Subtitles for your husband is good 👍🏻
Whilst you’ve done it .. my pump is higher than the heater and works ok. So if you do need to revisit it - I wouldn’t be disauded by it. 😊
Please be careful where you exit the exhaust though - you don’t want it coming in the cabin through any gap ….. and please buy a Carbon Monoxide alarm for inside.
It’s very cheap but might keep your family alive if the worst happened.
No worries, planing to add the alarm and review the positioning of the exhaust later on. Haha not fed up, just tired of another freezing cold day ;)
Here in Russia we usually install Eber or Webasto. My airtonic is installed under the second row. Be careful with the intake since if it is stuck with snow (like mine), the heater wouldn't start until you clean it.
Planar is worth its money, too. Surprising to see it installed somewhere in Europe
Thanks for sharing this! A small detail good to be aware of. Planar is used a lot in Europe and has good reputation:)
So let me get this strait …
A Russian Heating system…
A German build console…
In a UK manufactured car…
In Switzerland 🇨🇭…. GOSH I love Europe 🇪🇺👍😜
…
One more thing … if you want extra cupholders … get a RDX Centrecupholder …
No drilling … goes over the gearbox, sits on the tunnel and is faustend with the screws from the fusebox …👍
Hahaha exactly! It's an internationally made 4x4, no borders for our Land Rover ;) thanks for the cup holders advice, will check it out
More like China and re badged 🤦♂️😂
Spot on
Do you really advertise a russian product right now? Even in the Title?
It's a good and reliable product with great reviews.
Yes, and right now it also finances cold blooded murder in the Ukraine. Do you even know what's going on in the world?
@@thomaserhart8531 We choose products because of their quality and long-term life reputation, not based on countries political decisions. If it was so, we wouldn't even have a car nor would we use the internet. It might be a good idea to think thoroughly where all your belongings come from and all the different manufacturing countries with politics involved. If you want to talk politics you aren't on the right channel.
Russian? I just unsubscribed to this channel.
When you are dead then they sell your brain as not be used 🤣
Shouldn’t be supporting Russia during these times 👎
There's a difference between supporting politics decisions and purchasing a product manufactured by people who work to live.
@@offtrackfamily Excellent comment. Far too much hysteria at the moment.
