Thank you for making this video. I've always been curious about this game. I used to love playing Risk, and Diplomacy when I was a kid. I kind of missed out on this one. When I graduate college here in a few months I plan on trying to learn this and getting some people together to play.
Thanks for the nice overview. I used to play what must have been the first edition, as it was in the mid-1990s. I also had some third party expansion that had so much cool stuff that, we never even got around to trying all of it out. Assassinate Hitler, French vichy fleet, start before Germany invaded Russia, etc... They both got lost in a friends move, and I never played again. I recently discovered a clone of the 1941 version on the Android market "1941", and it has gotten me interested in the board game again. You're video has helped me decide where to start.
Have a few of the early versions up to the 1st edition of 1941 pacific. Never realized there were so many different versions. Thanks for the review of each and updating me :)
This video is what I've been looking for for a long time, I just got into axis and allies and this video really help me decide which edition to buy first (1942 2nd). I would really like a video where you put you're favorite editions and why and also a video about 1942 2nd.
Looks like the Anniversary edition is being re-released November 1st this year. It's supposed to be the same as the release in 2008 but with improved rules and I think a couple other tweaks as well. You can pre-order on Amazon for 75 bucks! Don't miss it this time Eric!
Great video, lots of good information. I would, however, like it if you would discuss all the differences between the various editions in more detail (i.e. different territories, units, rules, etc.)
I had one of the first A&A games and loved it but hard to find 2 other players and lost the game somewhere in my life along with Samurai (never got to play it) but I want to get it again. Hard to find a complete game for a good price! Suggestions???
love axis and allies, one game took me and a friend a solid week to get through, I believe it was the 1942 global edition with more countries. I just bought the first edition of axis and allies, and Europe today for a steal. can't wait to play it
My dad and I play the 1940 global 2nd edition and we completely painted all the units, also went to the website CHQ which produces metal minitures and we found that they were perfect size for the game so we have added those to our game (Tanks (actual WW2 tanks in very good detail), mobile units, and added new mobile artillary units just to our game because were total nerds). my dad and I started on the 1987 version and played that ever since I was about 7 so when we played the global version we had a game that we played for almost 2 days straight so if thats your thing I really recomend that version.
I made my collection : A&A 1987, Revised Edition 2004, 1942 2nd edition, and 1941 edition. If you are a new player, I don't even recommend buying the 1941 edition, go for the A&A 1987 already, its the classic one and the best in my opinion. I bought the 1941 edition plus extras pieces fro HBG to make it look like Anniversary edition so I don't have to spend 300+ $ !
So I'm looking to upgrade from my Axis and Allies Revised edition (the one you dont like so much) to a newer one, 1942 or 1942 revised. the original is like half the price of the revised one. Am i missing anything too significant for getting plain 1942? and great vid.
really, really good video. thx. I'm a 2004 player and didn't understand what version did what. D-day is great but basic. my son and I enjoy it if we've only got 2 hrs. I like the idea of the global game and will get Europe and Pacific 1940 eventually but based on your video I think the next version I will buy is the 1942 2nd edition, which looks like the updated version of the game I love so much.
curtsher11 I know the feeling. I've got a group I meet with but its only about 3 or 4 times a year! The trouble is these games are not for the casually interested unfortunately.
Would you say that 1942 2nd is like a short version of global, because from what I read I'm very intersted in global howeve I'm not sure if I would ever be also to find the time and the people to play. And also how many times have you played global, does it really take more than a day?
+Luis David Sánchez I seem to remember that 1940 global has a 1942 start option set up where Germany is already in france and japan in asia same as 1942 so that probably speeds the game up. I am looking to buy so I think I will go for the bigger board with the 42 setup. Still you will have the same prop with time and people, you might get it down to 7 or 8 hours. you can always stop and move the board to a safe place or write down the current board setup for next time but that's not very fun. You need this game though
first edition i ever played was europe 1940 and it was badass. my friend showed it to me. only one i own is 1941, but its fun too. theres not as many pieces as id appreciate, but enough to play an awesome game
I lack the 2nd editions of both 1942 and 1940, the Nova Games edition, and Pacific, it's funny how many A&A games there are, who knows, we may get to see all other wars in the series, maybe even the cold war
I might be a bit biased but the second edition for Europe and Pacific are totally worth it even if you don't do global they make really good theatre games
I want AA 1914 because of everyone you can play as. I want AA 1942 2nd ed. because its a huge map whats the best one where you can play the most amount of countries but have a big map like 1914
I started playing on the 1984 edition. Still have it and adore it. The only other one I own is the Anniversary Edition, which I agree is the best version of the game. A shame that it had such a limited run and costs a fortune now.
i played the 1942 1st edition today with my brother. i was the axis and on my 2nd turn, i sent in my japanese troops to attach several asian territories and pacific sea Zones. it turned into a disaster. i called it "black sunday". it was the turning point in the war and my brother conqured berlin. hitler and his advisers were tortured and executed by stalin himself atp the riechstag. despite the things germany did to russia, the russians after moving every remaining german soldger and civilian,
love these games. playing revised again with my brother. why is it near impossible for the allies to win unless there r bad roles or an amateur axis player.
Hey im a real axis and allies fan but trying to map down all the games and making shour you have all of them is hard. do you think you could send me or reply to me a list of all the games and editions. I would really appreciate it thank you for your time.
Get 1914 edition, the cons are no money, few infantry and few chips, but the pros are that it is just really fun if you play with friends and your just playing for fun. My and my school friends play it and we just have a good time. It may be slow to play, but if your the Germans or some other major power it's pretty fun. Tip: don't choose Turkey, they are complete sh *T in it
(continued) treated them very humanely. the u.s.a conqured japan and executed tojo hideki. hirohito was to remain on the throne until 1950. the war ended in feb 1943.
Thanks for the video. You halped me choose a version to start with and braught up a website I never heard of, but I'll sign up for now (gametableonline). Thanks again.

Cheers from Canada
Well done! I've just discovered your channel and you're doing a great job! Thanks a lot!

I would recomend 1942 or 1941 first as they give you a good foundation for the rules. 1940 pacific and europe (combined=global) are very in depth.
i am a 14 year old kid and taught me how to play, please please keep making videos!

When do you think you'll get around to reviewing axis and Allies Guadalcanal? I'm having a hard time finding a video review.
love axis and allies, one game took me and a friend a solid week to get through, I believe it was the 1942 global edition with more countries. I just bought the first edition of axis and allies, and Europe today for a steal. can't wait to play it
Have you considered the triplea program?
My dad and I play the 1940 global 2nd edition and we completely painted all the units, also went to the website CHQ which produces metal minitures and we found that they were perfect size for the game so we have added those to our game (Tanks (actual WW2 tanks in very good detail), mobile units, and added new mobile artillary units just to our game because were total nerds). my dad and I started on the 1987 version and played that ever since I was about 7 so when we played the global version we had a game that we played for almost 2 days straight so if thats your thing I really recomend that version.

the first one in bought the D-Day one for $30 and it is alot of fun
and it is a very good starter set
Should i buy 1940 Europe and pacific ??? they are very expensive do to being out of print or sho uld i wait for another release? PLEASE HELP
So I'm looking to upgrade from my Axis and Allies Revised edition (the one you dont like so much) to a newer one, 1942 or 1942 revised. the original is like half the price of the revised one. Am i missing anything too significant for getting plain 1942? and great vid.
the revised edition was one of the best in my opinion. 1942 is ever better :)
@Godzilla2013 I'm well aware of it, I would like to see some none world war axis and allies based game someday
My first game that I'm getting is Axis and Allies Europe if u could do a video to teach me how to play that would be awesome
really, really good video. thx.
I'm a 2004 player and didn't understand what version did what.

I love these games. Too bad I only have one friend that can really play with me. Gametableonline being gone sucks for sure.
curtsher11 I know the feeling. I've got a group I meet with but its only about 3 or 4 times a year! The trouble is these games are not for the casually interested unfortunately.
Lee Bearfield
No doubt about that.
I'm the same I only have like 2 friends to play with and they get very board eventually that just ruins the game.
Luis David Sánchez
Stiff as a board or bored stiff? :)
+curtsher11 ups bored*

Matt Jones 1942
