    Thanks for all you info! Our version of A&A 2nd does not involve cities so I guess we're playing an older version. So, I'm Axis, Germany has fallen, I'm left with Japan and I'm retreating. I have an AA gun in Manchuria and also in Japan. If the Allies do a strategic bomb run on Japan and fly over Manchuria going in and coming out, does the AA Gun get another shot as the bombers are leaving using the same route? Thank you for all your work! PS I made a game board that was bigger so we have a little elbow room. I'd like you to see it one time!

      Thanks for watching!
      The rules around AA guns has changed a few times over the various versions. Assuming you are playing 1942 Second Edition, here is what you need to know: AA Guns only fire when the land territory they are defending is attacked. They don't fire when enemy forces pass over or in response to a strategic bombing raid. The Industrial Complexes have a built in AA ability that fires at incoming bombers.
      Here is a video we made on the topic the has lots of examples: ua-cam.com/video/hw1kiiqS0Vc/v-deo.html

Germany has retreated all the way to Egypt. Can I load the 2 troop units and move one sea zone and drop 1 troop into unoccupied Kenya and then move one more sea zone and drop the second troop into unoccupied East Africa? In non combat move phase I pretty sure it states units that engaged in combat moves cannot move again with a few exceptions being aircraft. Thank you.

    Thank you for your tutorial! I have one question, do you think Axis and Allies 1940 Europe 2nd Edition (without pacific 1940) is good? Because I don't like it in the 1942 edition that the Germans are already almost in Moscow at the beginning and in the 1940 edition the Germans need a little bit longer. I would like to hear your opinion! Sorry for my bad English :/

    • @BoardGameNation

      I love A&A Europe! I have only played it once without the Pacific counterpart, but I did enjoy it. I like the addition of the air bases and naval yards.
      However, I honestly prefer the 1942 scenario. Having the German and Russia forces so close fires up the action on the first turn. The Americans being 2 or 3 turns from being a big influence in the game provides the longer strategic issues.

  • @thedirtyfecker
    @thedirtyfecker Рік тому +1

    I have another few questions if you don't mind answering them?
    1) in 1940 Global (first edition) you get two combat strips (One in each box). The Europe game does not include an attack value for aircraft carriers. The Pacific game combat strip does allow aircraft carriers to attack on a 1. The rules in Europe say aircraft carriers cannot attack. is this a mistake?
    2) When fighter planes fly over enemy territory that contains fighter planes and tactical bombers, are they allowed to fly over without any combat taking place? In classic, this is not possible. It is a new rule that aircraft can fly over enemy territory, but surely defense aircraft can intercept them if they are in the zone they are trying to cross?
    3) When transport ships pick up and offload land units sometimes they are in a sea zone that borders more than one land territory at the same time. Can they pick up from two different land territories at the same time or does count as two moves? When they offload, can they drop them off in two territories in the same turn while in the same sea zone after also picking them up during their same move? For example, imagine a ship picks up two troop units in Normandy France and then moves to the Irish Sea where it drops one unit off in Ireland and the other one in England. Both Ireland and England share the same sea zone.
    4) The rules say that aeroplanes can scramble to attack ships or aircarft that are traveling through the sea zone of the island they are on. Do the likes of Japan, Ireland and Britain qualify as islands or is it just tiny islands such as the Solomon Islands that qualify? Britain and Ireland are islands after all and it kind of does make sense that aeroplanes could be scrambled to fight enemy aircraft in the English Channel against attacks coming from the coast of France. This did happen during the war after all.
    5) When reading the rules for 1940 when it talks about tanks it says they have a movement of two. It explains that they can move 2 territories while blitzing and how this works. It also says this happens in the combat move phase. However, it does not mention anything about tanks moving two spaces in a normal movement phase through friendly territories or through a friendly territory and then into a hostile one. The thing is though, this was something you could do in the classic 1984 game and it clearly explains that you can. Since 1940 is an evolution of the same game, do you think this is an oversight by the writers of the rules and is something that is possible in 1940 or do you think it was left out on purpose? To my mind, in reality, highly mobile units such as tanks and trucks could move just as fast though friendly territory as they could push quickly through hostile territory. It seems a bit daft that they could only move 1 in friendly territory and then be able to speed up when faced with hostile enemies trying to slow them down...

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Рік тому

      I'll do my best.
      1) That is an error. Carriers in 1940 have no attack rating.
      2) Air units can pass over enemy land territories or hostile sea zones without engaging any type of enemy units.
      3) While using up to two moves, transports can pick up two units in any territories along the way one at a time or two from the same spot. They can only drop off once. Offloading troops ends a transport's movement.
      4) I might need to double-check this, but my understanding is that the air units can only scramble from a functional airbase into an adjacent sea zone that is under attack.
      5) If they didn't move during combat, tanks can move one or two spaces during the non-combat phase. They can also be loaded and/or offloaded from transports.
      I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    In Sea Zone 63, is the destroyer necessary? I thought the submarines could be ignored (Rules p. 15).

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  3 роки тому +5

      Ah, great question! Thanks for asking!
      This is a tricky one. The rulebook seems to have conflicting thoughts. On page 15 we have this: "If there are defending surface warships, sea combat occurs. If there are only defending submarines and/or transports, the attacker can choose to ignore those units or conduct sea combat."
      However, on the bottom of page 13, we have this chestnut: "However, a transport is not allowed to offload land units for an amphibious assault in a sea zone containing one or more ignored enemy submarines unless at least one warship belonging to the attacking power is also present in the sea zone at the end of the Combat Move phase."
      Putting these two sections together, I gather that the attacker moving with surface warships can ignore a sub and attack, but a transport alone cannot. This is tricky from a game play point of view, but certainly more historically accurate.
      Again, great question. Thanks for asking! I hope I was able to help clear it up. To be honest, I had to ask around about this rule when I was making this video.

  • @thedirtyfecker
    @thedirtyfecker Рік тому +1

    I have a question. We have played A+A Clasic exclusively. Today, I received 1940 Europe and we are currently playing a game. I am getting my head around the rules differences and my question is about the USA after it enters the war. The original economy of the USA is 35 IPC, but as I am reading it, it says that it receives another 30 IPC as long as it controls central USA and Eastern USA. This means it gets 65 IPC EVERY TURN! In Global you get 82 IPC? This seems very unbalanced.
    Am I misunderstanding this?
    It seems that when Russia and the USA enter the war the Germans and Italians will have no chance at all to win the game.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Рік тому

      You are almost right. The US starts the game making 35 IPCs per turn and once they enter the war, if they control all of their starting territories (and typically do), they get a 25 IPC bonus.
      *Europe 1940 Rulebook, Page 26*
      _"When the United States Is at War:
      • *20 IPCs* if the United States controls both Eastern United States and Central United States. Theme: Basic national
      sovereignty.
      • *5 IPCs* if the United States controls all of the following territories: South Eastern Mexico, Central America, and West Indies. Theme: Defense treaty and trade obligations."_
      Even with this huge economic boost to the Americans, most people find Europe and Global fairly balanced. Tournament bidding in Global events usually ends up within a few IPCs of value. By the time the American enter the war, the Germans and Italian have typically gobbled up much of the map and should have a combined IPC strength close to the Allies. That plus, the value of the their existing attack power should give the Axis more than a fighting chance at victory.
      In Global games, it is not unusual to see the Americans generating over 90 IPCs. Certainly a good sign to the Allies, but not always a decisive factor in the game. As overwhelming as that much economic firepower can be, it has to be split between both theaters and it has to be deployed effectively or it can all be for nought.
      I am actually working on a video now to help players transition from 1942 Second Edition to the 1940 games. It will walk through all the rules differences. There is a lot to cover, but I hope to have it ready in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for that!
      Thanks for watching! I hope this helps! How did your game turn out?

      @@BoardGameNation Still playing the game at the moment. I think you are quoting rules from 1940 second edition? We have 1940 First edition and in that its says that the USA gets 30 IPC's if it controls central and Eastern USA. In global it is the same, but you need central, Eastern and Weastern USA to qualify for the extra 30 IPC's. I t also looks like the other objectives you mention are different too.
      Even so, now that we are deep into the game, I can see now that the extra money does not quickly translate into a flash victory. It seems that it takes two turns for transporters to cross the Atlantic to Britain to drop off forces and then two turns to get back again. This means you need several relay teams working independently to keep a constant flow of troops flooding in. D-Day is not as simple as I thought it would be!
      On a differen't topic, what the hell is that funny symbol in 'Suriname' in South America all about? I can't seem to find any reference to it in the book? There is anther inconsistency I found also, It says in the rules that harbours and airfields have 3 wounds. Then when talking about air raids it says they can take 6 damage before becoming unusable. Which one is correct?
      Currently in the game, the AMericans have take Belgium and the British have taken control of Norway. The Brits had Denmark, but the Germans wrestled it back again. We are running out of troops to keep the pressure piling on, before the transporters provide another good dollop of back up, so it could all be for nothing :) The Germans are doing well in Russia and the Italians have done very well in Africa. The Brits are building up for a solid comback there, so it is all still to play for. The Axis currently hold five cities... :)

      I was quoting the 2nd Edition rulebook. To be honest, I haven't ever played the first edition. I found an image online of that map and the symbol in Suriname is the roundel for the Dutch. This is really only relevant in the global game. In the Europe version, you should just consider it a British territory.
      Glad you are enjoying the game! Good hunting!

    You always start with the dice with more hits and work you down. You do not want to throw 10 or 20 dice extra and waste time on throws that didn't matter at the end.

    21:50 Why Japan had must given 31 IPC? Because that's all that Japan had at that time?

    • @BoardGameNation

      When a power captures an enemy capital, any IPCs in their possession are transferred to the attacking power's treasury. I hope that make sense. For more detail, I suggest checking out our full how-to-play video. ua-cam.com/video/IKyWaC0vrtM/v-deo.html

    There is one rule I can tell you left out, off the top of my head. It's optional though so I won't hold it against you. Fighters intercepting Strategic bombing raids.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Рік тому +1

      It has been a while since I look at, but it think you are correct. Interceptors are an optional rule in 1942.2. I don't really care for it. So, I left it out.
      However, it is definitely part of the 1940 Global rules.
